Subzero Quest: Legends Awaken
In a frozen future where Chicago lies buried beneath endless snow, eighteen-year-old Hannah Anderson survives the only way she knows how: through grit, determination, and the small joys she scavenges from the ruins of the old world.
But everything changes when the creators of the revolutionary Virtual Deck announce the largest VR tournament in history.
Ten thousand players.
One massive medieval world.
Every moment streamed to millions around the globe.
The rules are simple: show your skill, outplay the competition, and rise above the chaos. But nothing inside the virtual world is easy. Players form alliances only to break them, battles erupt without warning, and every decision can make or break someone’s future.
For Hannah, this isn’t about fame or spectacle.
It’s about proving she belongs somewhere bigger than the frozen wasteland she was born into. It’s about stepping into a world where she can finally control her own destiny—and fighting for the chance to build a better future for herself and her family.
As the challenges escalate and opponents grow fiercer, Hannah discovers she has more strength and more heart than she ever realized. But in a competition where everyone is desperate to win, trust is dangerous... and standing out can be deadly.
Subzero Quest: Legends Awaken launches an intense VR survival adventure filled with medieval danger, shifting alliances, fierce combat, and a heroine determined to carve out her own place in a broken world.
Perfect for fans of The Hunger Games, Ready Player One, and Sword Art Online.

About the author
J.B. Corgard
5 books5 followersHi, I’m J.B. Corgard — a sci-fi/fantasy author, gamer, and unapologetic world-builder from Sheboygan, WI. I’ve always been fascinated by the way stories can reshape the world around us, letting us explore questions of survival, identity, and belonging through new realms. Writing is how I open doors to those realms and invite others inside.
I grew up loving stories that blended the impossible with the human — from epic adventures like Lord of the Rings to immersive games like Fallout: New Vegas. Those influences shaped how I write today: worlds that feel lived-in, layered with danger and wonder, where every character’s choices matter.
Outside of writing, I’m a collector of experiences. I love thrifting for treasures that spark inspiration, hiking trails that remind me of the vastness of the world, and cooking (though mac & cheese will always be my comfort go-to). I’m also not shy about color — pink is my favorite, because even in the coldest worlds, a little brightness belongs.
For me, being an author isn’t just about telling stories — it’s about building worlds rich enough that readers feel like they could step into them. That’s what I strive to do with every project I take on.

Subzero Quest: Legend Awaken has a really intriguing premise that combines post-apocalyptic survival with virtual reality, medieval adventure, and competitive gaming. The contrast between Hannah surviving in a frozen Chicago and then entering a massive virtual world immediately makes the story feel ambitious and full of possibilities.
What particularly caught my attention is that Hannah’s motivation goes beyond simply winning the tournament. Her desire to prove that she belongs somewhere bigger than the wasteland she grew up in gives the competition a more personal emotional stake. The idea of ten thousand players competing while millions watch also creates plenty of opportunities for alliances, betrayals, unexpected challenges, and difficult choices.
I also like the combination of the real-world survival setting with the medieval VR environment. It creates two very different forms of danger, while Hannah has to figure out who she can trust in both. The emphasis on determination, courage, and finding her own destiny makes her sound like a protagonist readers can easily root for.
At 789 pages, this is clearly a substantial adventure rather than a quick read, which should appeal to readers who enjoy getting deeply immersed in a fictional world. Overall, the premise sounds especially appealing to fans of dystopian survival stories, virtual-reality adventures, and competitive fantasy with strong character-driven stakes.
