Skin Split / Peach Pit is an exploration of the ever changing nature of love. Harrow Lee dives into familial, romantic, and platonic relationships. He speaks about life, the way our world is crumbling, and tries to find hope in a hopeless place.
This was such a personal and inspiring collection, I can feel hurt and also love in every page. It probably doesn’t help that I was listening to “car alarm” by pats soundhouse while reading it, but Skin Split Peach Pit does kind of make you feel like you’re getting hit by a truck (in that wonderful way poetry sometimes makes your bones feel), so it was an immersive experience in lots of regards.
While many of Harrow Lee’s poems in this touched me, my favorite is “Notes from a born performer” and I leave you with my favorite line from it, which devastated me and I had to just sit there with it for a minute before I continued reading.
“You are the car. Only this will keep you safe.”
