Talk about a rollercoaster of emotions!
Eve, our FMC, is honestly fun. She's loved through trauma before we even meet her and she's looking for her path in life. She's always felt different, but no undies that change when her path crosses with Kjan. As she starts to peel back the layers of who she wants to be, we see her endless resilience and fire even against all odds (cough Kjan). She meets he is headstrong nature with enthusiasm and honesty. She is a force, not the loud in your face kind, the unwavering kind that refuses to simply dim despite others trying to blow out her flame.
Kjan. Bless him. It seems 900+ years isn't enough to understand love. Eve challenges everything he thinks he knows while he tries to rebuild walls she demolishes just as quickly. When he finally gets out of his own way he real the mistakes he's made by trying to protect instead of listen. It's not often we get character growth from both MCs, so it was refreshing that even an old dog or vampire adjacent cam learn new tricks. What will his secrets and denial cost him?
Now, back to the emotions. There were times I want to yell at the characters and also give them a hug. Balance, right? The burn is slow, but so worth it. He gives her a nickname. She gets a pretty ball gown. Vampires. OWD. They go on a journey and I enjoyed every minute. I can't wait to see what's next. Secrets, remember?
