Had I known that I previously DNF’d a book by this author, I wouldn’t have wasted three days of my life on this dumb shit.
First and foremost, I kept hearing my people but I wasn’t seeing my people. WHY the f*** were white characters freely using the n word? I thought maybe I was confused but nope. Colorism, racism, all the isms were present.
Also, this book was trauma porn. Bruh. So much unnecessary goddamn trauma. Hurricane Katrina and 9/11 victims - damn, double homicide.
Lastly, calling children who were in foster care “consumers” gave slavery. Especially since the foster homes were owned by the whites who kept using the n word.
PS. How do I block this author on Kindle unlimited? I don’t want to see anymore goddamn books mentioned by her ever again. Get somebody else to do it.
Shawty! this was so good 😮💨. This is definitely a twist on the arranged marriage trope, and I really enjoyed it. The story had depth, tension, and feelings all over the place.
Now listen, I do wish we got more of Cyn and Melody actually falling in love on page. Seeing that build would’ve taken this to a solid 5 stars for me. As it stands, though, it’s a strong 4.5.
Heads up, there is trauma on page, so please take care with this one. Also, Scarlett was A LOT. Stubborn doesn’t even cover it. Thoughtful, yes, but also very controlling and hard-headed. Ugh.
And I don’t normally root for cheating, but whew, Cyn deserved happiness, period. 🤷🏾♀️
You never know what to had until it’s gone. Sometimes listening to someone else instead of your self is not a thing. Being selfish never gets you anywhere. Once you push a man or woman to his/her limits, there’s no getting them back. Hurricane Katrina will never be forgotten.
Off top I do not like Scarlett aka Lottie. Her energy and vibe is off. Her attitude is horrible and the selfishness is real. She moved off what she say is final and no one has a say, not even her husband Jacyn. Her sisters Zailey & Whitley tried to tell her. She honestly pushed the only man she loved and who loved into the arms s of a distance cousin - Melody. See Lottie in my opinion is the woman base thing by the color of skin. The way her sister told her, that once Jacyn goes black he will never go back.. She was not lying. Now what’s crazy was, she set the all up but wanted everything to happen on her time. When she learned that they already meet, yeah she wasn’t pleased. As for get best Friend Bonnie, yeah I’m not feeling great at all. She petty and has insecurities but Lottie doesn’t see that. She allows Bonnie to fill her head was nonsense. oh but with everything already in play and moving faster than she expected as well as moved in a way she wasn’t expecting, she now wants it back. Girl is you cool? You already put business before family. Ole girl don’t wrote a check she can’t cash and back pedaling.
There’s so much to say about Melody. She received the short end of the stick from the time she was born. Oh but she made the best of it. Her main goal is staying a virgin and being their for get sister that she just learned about. My girl ain’t thought about a man and wasn’t looking for one, but who would’ve thought that the anniversary of Katrina would change all that - Jacyn. Who would’ve thought that 5 days would change your life. In those 5 days my girl done did something she ain’t even thought about. She met a man that changed things for her that she honestly has yet to understand. One thing I will say, my girl don’t bite her tongue for nothing or no one. As for her mother, yeah I want to play bop it with but at the same time my heart went out to her. She is a different breed for sure. With all that’s going on and how this just end, yeah the shenanigans are about to begin and I’m so ready for it.
Jacyn vibe is one I enjoyed. He was laid back and chill until you came for him. He’s is unhinged cause a tree my guy. One thing you can say about him is, ya boy faithful and gives his all. Ain’t know way I would’ve handed him off. It would be us until the end. As I was reading, I realized that Lottie just wasn’t who he should’ve been with. This what happens when parents run their children life. See to me they both were content and surviving but I don’t think it was love. Again, that’s my opinion. Who would’ve thought a tragedy would bring people together, better bring family together that no one knew about. Honestly didn’t know what to expect when he met Melody but I’m here for it. The way he can be himself with her was it for me. The version you seen when with Lottie is total different than when he’s with Mellie. Let’s not forget about the son Joel. Yeah that their hit different.
Hurricane Katrina is something no one will ever forget. My heart still goes out to those that were affected by it. Listen, I had been saying that I was going to get into this author catalog and babe, I’m glad that I did. This here is only book one and it’s messy. Everybody family. Now I understand the hype cause this is goodt. My first read by this author and I think I’m in a chokehold. Book 2 here I come.
I knew I was gonna love it but not this much. I’m rooting for Melody and Cyn bc I love them together. Melody is a young woman who was born during Hurricane Katrina and was abandoned by her mother then raised by her grandmother. The way her mother was bought up was sad as hell and she turned around and did the same thing getting pregnant again and repeating the cycle. Melody just reconnecting with her mother and met her sister Jaliyah for the first time in 15 years. Jaliyah had been through some things and her being in foster care shows that. She was assaulted in the worse way and by someone who was meant to protect her yet they did the opposite. Jacyn meets Melody while she working and they hit it off before any relation is made between Melody and anyone. Lottie Devereaux was a woman fighting a terrible illness that has plague her forever and she was told she was terminal that meant leaving behind her husband Jacyn and son Joel. To keep her mother’s memory alive and her company in the family her husband has to marry into the family. Jacyn wasn’t expected anything like this from the woman he thought he was spending his life with. Melody is a bartender and a teacher and she finds out the lady who strikes up a conversation with her is none other than her cousin she never knew. Jacyn’s brother Kelsius is trying to get back his manhood after a horrible situation that occurred when he was younger. You wrong for that cliffhanger too miss ma’am bc WTH. Wanna know all of the juicy details in between pick this up ASAP. Y’all see the team she on so y’all know her pen game is crazy. This book is full of drama and heartache and love.
Nothing beats messy family drama! Babyyyyy, Lottie pissed me off so bad! If I could have yanked her through my screen, I absolutely would have! Bonnie is just a rich, miserable babet! Like girl, pleaseee go sit in a corner somewhere! Kelsius barely wants her; maximizing his access to her only because she gives it so freely! The saying, "Oh be careful what you ask for because you just may get it," is so true! Lottie literally gave it all away only to turn around when it bit her in the ass! Too late now, the divorce is final just as she wished! Even with Melody staying away from Jacyn, she was still his choice! The ink is dried on the divorce papers and the ink is certainly dry on the marriage certificate! Lottie needs to move around! When her family told her to check again, she refused to and now she wants it all back! Nahhhhhh, Melody better don't fall for the bullshit! I was taking nothing she said about mixed up patients info and bloodwork! Let's go to the doctor and see that shit for ourselves and even then, she better let Lottie know she'll be the best step mother around because she wasn't going anywhere! Whew challllle! My pressure is through the roof! Part 2 is need NOW!!!!!
Chileeeeeeeeeee!! When I tell you I love a messy book, I mean that with my whole chest. So when my homegirl told me to read this messy book, you know I jumped on it and it kept me in a chokehold.
What I was NOT prepared for was the level of chaos living inside these pages.
This wasn’t just drama. This was self-inflicted, pride-driven, control-everything-at-all-costs type of mess. And baby, shorty had me wanting to jump inside the book and handle her personally. The decisions? The stubbornness? The heartache she caused herself? Completely avoidable… and yet here we are. 😭
It’s the kind of story where you’re yelling at the pages but still flipping them faster because you HAVE to see what she’s going to do next. And trust me… she keeps doing things.
What really gets me is knowing this is just the beginning. There are TWO more books in this series, which means if this one came in swinging like this? I can only imagine the chaos waiting in the next installments.
If you enjoy unhinged behavior, questionable choices, and drama that makes you clutch your imaginary pearls, this one will absolutely keep you entertained. Just prepare yourself because it does not come in quietly. 🔥📚
I wasn’t ready. I thought this was going to be a slow burn. This is a messy burn. When I say pay attention, I mean it. There are a lot of players here. This one is sleeping with that one and that one too. Folk planning to die. Unexpected feelings that come into play really quick. You feel sorry for so many affected by Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath. Everyone almost has a back story and the damn secrets. Everyone is related to someone somehow, with some knowing or some not knowing at all or where the others are. Hardheaded Lottie had me feeling for her until I didn’t. Her decision is coming to bite her in the butt. Sorry , I already started book 2 and ain’t nothing slow now. When I say it’s a lot of, if you don’t do what I say, then I’ll…. Just messy but I turned every page.
I can't recall ever reading a book by this author, but let me tell you I'm about to go through her catalog and read EVERY DAMN THING!! From beginning to the end she had me in my feelings. One part I wanted to feel bad for Lottie, and the next I wanted to fight her. Mellie and Cyn pulled at my heartstrings. When he practically begged this woman in front of their family and she stop played him to the left I was like well F her! I really don't want to give too much away, so I'm just going to say READ THIS ISH!!!
This book was truly a Good Read. The author has great penmanship. The storyline and characters are very good. I love the way she introduces her readers to each characters. The characters are very relatable. You can feel the tension and emotion in each page. I didn’t know there was a part two I would have waited to read to read the book. She most definitely left us with a cliffhanger. I would recommend that you select this book to read but you might want to wait for part 2!!!!
Now that was a fam ending and one that was very unexpected!!!… Not the ex wife showing up on that 1st day of love making to deliver what she hopes will change what she set in motion!!!… Baby girl, your ex is on to the next and she should have double checked before auctioning her husband off like old clothes!!!… Melody is not going to let Jacyn go and he’s not leaving Melody even!!!… I can’t wait to see what is next because this shattt just got real!!!…
Be careful what you ask for, because when you get it you may not be mentally ready to handle it. Cyn upgraded at Lottie's prodding and she can't handle it. Bonnie is messy and miserable. What I want to know is how did she know where to find them to deliver those papers and went wait until he left the room? Misery loves company. She gave her husband away and in the process showed her true colors. Can't wait for part 2. #TeamCynandMelody
Oh. My. Gosh. You’ve done it again. Every time I read a new series it’s better than the last. I know to expect a certain level of quality and it’s delivered every time. Wtbs… there’s so much to say about Lottie and Cyn idek where to start lol. However, is Lottie white or nah? I liked Mellie for the most part too. Definitely a good read. Good pace and nice flow. Where’s part 2?
Babaaaay this is a doozy!!! I love the mess of it all!!!! How you gonna get mad when your plan is actually working?!?🤣 Giiiiirrrrrrl bye!!!! I loved Cyn & Mellie!! And crazy to say but I love Lottie’s sisters… they stayed not giving a d@mn what came out of their mouths. I can’t wait to read the next one!!! Go ahead and read this book… you will not be disappointed!… it is so well written!! Ms. Armstead you definitely have a new reader!!!
Oh this book was so good! Ate this book up in one day lol! I already started the second book!
Lottie is very controlling. It’s obvious that her and Jacyn were only together based of trauma and bad decisions that they made early on! They are only 26, haven’t even really lived life yet! I am glad Jacyn is not allowing this to stop him though! He deserves better and I def think Mellie will be that better!!
I love a good cliffhanger, so let’s see what crazy mess Part 2 brings!
Aww naw if these hoes ain’t got nothing else. They got audacity! Lil bihhh if you don’t move tf around! You had a choice and you made it. Now you regret it. Aww to bad so sad! If she doesn’t write nothing else she is going to write the hell out of a messed up family drama! I know I better have part in 2 by next week! Sensational!
Ain't no take backs boo!!! I licked it so it's mine. I hope Jacyn don't go back to Scarlett and I hope Melody doesn't let what ever Scarlett yapping about come up off her husband. That's probably a ploy her and Dumb Bonnie done came up with. Krystal Armstead sure knows how to make you anxious for her next release.💓💓
This book was sooo good mannn and I had already figured it was going to be a part 2. This one arranged marriage that was like no other. A sick wife marrying off her husband. Come to find out she was misdiagnosed. That is crazy. I’m pressed for part two I hope it won’t take months for it to drop! I’m Cardi B pressed about this part 2
I can't wait to read part two of this book.i hope melody mother has a change of heart when it comes to her daughters.i was feeling sorry for Scarlett in the beginning. As I started to read i slowly started to dislike Scarlett. She and Bonnie was getting on my last nerves.i love the pace of this book.i hope Jaclyn doesn't go back to Scarlett.
Chileeeeeee I knew something wasn’t right with Lottie diagnosis. How you going to need the book right when it was about to get to the meat and grit lol I had to check twice to make sure I didn’t miss the release of the second book. Lawdddd I hope we can get it at least next month. Chileeeeee!!!!!
I don't believe Scarlett one bit she's not pregnant and and she indeed had cancer her doctor said it I think she wants her husband back but it's to dang late because the man is married... She doesn't want her husband happy when she started all this and Scarlett friend need to go somewhere and her sister teach them a lesson
This book is so….muddled (for lack of a better word). The whole marry into the family thing is dumb asf. Are the characters in this story black or white (aside from the MFC and MMC) or are they light skinned? I’m confused in that part.
Unfortunately im going to read part 2, but if it goes beyond that I’m over it. This book really irritated me.
Whew! Very interesting and suspenseful. You will think of this book on the job if you’re not sneaking and reading while on the job. I think M and Cyn will be the victorious couple. Lottie made a BIG mistake! Huge! But it still will not make their sex life any better it is what it is… Thank you for part 2 being readily available.
Not going to to lie, I honestly didn’t like the story at first. But it grew on me, especially when Lotto found out Mellie isn’t a pushover and Cyn find her to beautiful. Lotto grew up thinking her skin made her better than and Cyn about to show her that black is absolutely gorgeous.
Sometimes you have to be careful what you ask for. I love a good messy read, and when I started this book, I said to myself, "I hope this is good and messy....let me tell you it issssssss..the book is perfectly seasoned with messy and I ate it up. Krystal has a forever reader in me. Please read this book. I am headed to book II
See Ms Mam…..the way I read this book….better yet the way I inhaled this book…I was not prepared for that CLIFFHANGER…So how is this supposed to play out for Mellie and Cyn? And what else does Lottie have up her sleeve….ughhhh
Why must you be so petty smh definitely a great read Scarlett he a snake. I hope that ending is not true why why why. Melody deserves happiness so does Jacyn… Hurry up part 2 I never leave reviews.
A good read with a interesting storyline. From the very beginning the twist and turns are a lot. So much drama from the past affecting the present. Scheming got an outcome that wasn't what you wanted. I can't wait for book two.
I know that this book did not end like this! I know Lottie was going through a lot mentally but she’s the one that pushed her husband away. I’m going to need Melody to stand 10 toes down for Jaclyn because it’s about to get real. Part 2 me ASAP
You never disappoint you had me hooked from beginning to the end. You should let Scarlett get ate bye som gators or something though and make sure Bonnie get thrown into some quick sand.
As always I couldn't put this crazy author's book down. I just love how she includes mental health into her stories. I can't wait for the next book to continue this mind bogglng series.
