3,5 stelline
L’universo intero rimaneva in ascolto»

If you read Jen McLaughlin's first book in this series (Between Us) you'll remember a sweet and sexy romance between country music sweetheart Mackenzie and bartender Austin. The story was a novella so the romance happened fairly fast but I thoroughly enjoyed it, it was a quick read with a nice happily ever after and I thought it was perfect summer reading.

When I first found out that the author's were writing new books in this series I was excited, I was expecting more of the same and I kind of assumed that each author would be writing about a new couple but the three new books would all be linked by friendships between the couples like the first three were. I wish that had been the case because if it was I'm sure I would have loved this book.

Unfortunately the authors decided to revisit the previous couples and mess around with their HEAs with a load of pointless drama. They decided to throw in things like love triangles and possible cheating, practically destroying the relationships we had rooted for before. Now I kind of get where they were going with this, live isn't all sunshine and roses - we all know that! - but I read to escape from reality. I don't mind reading relationship drama if that's what I'm expecting going in but I really, REALLY hate it when I'm lead to believe a story is complete and a HEA is achieved only to have the rug pulled out from under me.

That's when I start to think that even though there wasn't really any more story to tell the authors knew a cash cow when they saw one and decided to ramp up the drama-llama crap just to get more money out of their fans. And that just pisses me off.

I hate to say it but I couldn't even finish this crap, I started to hate both of the main characters and it almost destroyed my love of the previous book. I'm actually a huge fan of Jen McLaughlin / Diane Alberts so it really pains me to rate this book 1 star but if I couldn't finish reading a book that's all it deserves. I'll still read more from this author in the future but I'm damn sure that I won't pick up any new books in this series.

Losing Us by Jen McLaughlin was one an emotional and heartbreaking tale of a couple who faces the challenges of fame, trust, and love. We are reunited back with Austin and Mackenzie and a lot has changed for this beloved couple. With Austin rising in the music scene as well, both Mac and Austin are battling with the separation as they both pursue their musical ambitions. With fame comes adoring fans but some fans can step over the line. For Austin's case, he must learn it the hard way when the trust and respect of Mac is broken. Can Austin fix his relationship with Mac? Or will they will be losing each other?

#LosingUs

This book was a short, raw, emotional and yet captivating read of a couple struggling with their relationship. Though it was painful to learn of Austin's past, it was also heartbreaking to see Mac and Austin dealing with their relationship issues. What I enjoyed about this book was that I was able to see the progression of their relationship from Between Us to Losing Us. I love seeing a couple grow, learn how to trust one another, and have faith that their love can withstand anything that stands in the way.

I fell in love with Austin and Mackenzie last year in Between Us, so I was beyond thrilled to learn there would be a second part to their story. After reading the blurb I was more than a little anxious about it because I only wanted sunshine and happiness for these two. That just wasn't to be, however. They needed to go through another rough patch to prove what they had was real and worth it.

Losing Us was pretty much made of feels. I was absolutely hooked from the very first pages when Mackenzie surprises Austin at his show and winds up getting a most unwelcome surprise of her own. Of course, there's more to what was going on than met the eye, but that didn't stop it from being pretty darn painful for Mac (and me, for that matter). Because the book was written in alternating perspectives, I always knew the whole story. I knew Austin wasn't a bad guy, but I wanted him to find a way to prove it to Mac.

This was a quick read, but an emotional one for me. It hurt to watch these characters go through more drama together. There were quite a few challenges in store for them in this short book. I wanted to shake Mac. Her shields were up so tight she wouldn't give Austin a chance to bust through them. I know she didn't want to get hurt again, but I needed them to work things out.

What I think this book did so very well was show that everything isn't all happiness once a couple gets together. Real life seeps in after awhile. There will be challenges and miscommunication. But it's all in how you work through it that shows if the love is meant to last. Neither Austin nor Mac were without fault. They both made mistakes in this book. But, I loved how they came back together and how it worked out in the end. I was with them the whole time and felt all the emotions. I had to break out the wine before it was all said and done. That's the mark of a good, feel-filled book.

I can't wait to read the other novellas in this series! I'm so glad these authors wrote sequels this year.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I will admit I was terrified to start reading this story. I love both Mac and Austin, they are perfect together, so I really, really didn’t want anything to happen to their relationship.

The story takes a look at coping with life in the public eye and the additional pressure it can put on relationships. Mackenzie has been burned by the paparazzi in the past and understandably apprehensive regarding the media and her relationship with Austin. She has tried to guide Austin having spent her life in the public eye, however, Austin doesn’t fully take on board her advice leading to a tenacious situation.

Tension was already high with the sense of foreboding I had before I even started reading, so when events played out at the beginning I felt as if my heart was in a vice. I felt Mackenzie’s actions were completely justified, protecting herself had to be a top priority.

Without trust you have nothing, trust is essentially the core of any relationship but more so if you live your life in the public eye and endure large periods of time apart. I’m not sure I could handle the pressure and moments of insecurity.

Mackenzie projects an image of self-confidence but she has her own insecurities exasperated by the incidents within the plot. Personally, I’m not sure if I could make myself vulnerable again.

I kinda hated Austin at times, his lack of discretion caused a tremendous amount of hurt. Also his constant flirting was unnecessary as much as he tried to justify it. The insight into his upbringing did make me understand him better and aid winning me over. The way he views Mackenzie was equally heart-warming and heart-aching.

While I enjoyed Losing Us I need an epilogue set a few years later in order to fully punt the demons raised in this book to rest ;)

Dovrei solo tornare a essere me stesso."

Romance and Fantasy for Cosmopolitan Girls

Ciao Cosmo!

Libro carino, scorrevole, senza tante pretese insomma.
A presto e buona lettura!

LOSING US was the perfect follow up to Austin and Mac’s story. I was curious as to what would happen in this story and I was surprised at what went down and how much I loved it! There is drama, passion, and the determination to fight for what you want. Austin and Mac are bother musicians and the world they live in is unforgiving. Austin was thrust into the limelight, both because of his relationship with Mac and his raw talent. As we see in this second novella, it is a bit harder than he ever realized. This story is a fabulous rock-star romance that is exactly what BETWEEN US fans wanted.
It was very interesting to read about two people in the spotlight who are very different. Mac has been in the public eye for years. She knows what to say and do, who to talk to and how to mask her emotions. Austin is struggling to find his place, to learn who to trust and where the road will take him. Seeing those two different views on someone in the public eyes was very fascinating. You see those sides and Jen allows you to compare and contrast naturally, finding pros and cons for both.
As always, the passion and connection between these two is burning up like wildfire. The foundational connection and love is not lost but they need to find their way back to one another. Watching them work through their relationship issues, as well as their own personal demons, allows them to come to a better place with themselves which allows them to be with each other. This story takes one moment and expounds the consequences of that moment. There are not too many details, but instead LOSING US focuses on Mac, Austin, and their relationship. I loved how after a year it all comes full circle. And I REALLY want someone to records the songs they sing together in the book! That would be fantastic! This novella is the perfect follow up to BETWEEN US, giving us a glimpse at Austin and Mac’s life on the road and their hopeful happily ever after.

Mackenzie is a young country singer that has made a very good living for herself. Mac helped Austin get his big break when they started touring together and even recorded a song together for both of their albums. Austin had a rough life growing up and has since gained Guardianship of his younger sister because of how abusive his father was to him and trying to kill his sister. Austin takes his role of raising Rachel very serious and wants her to only have the best and fulfill all of her dreams. Austin has had to be away from Rachel more than he likes because of his new found stardom. This weighs very heavily on Austin's mind.

Mac decides to surprise Austin a few days earlier than what she was supposed to at one of his concert locations and what she sees sets her head to spinning. This was truly a case of jumping to conclusions before hearing the whole story or letting someone explain their side. Mac and Austin go through their fair share of problems when the tabloids get wind of a situation that Austin caused. Stardom is always a hard life style I am sure and there has to be a very strong relationship between two people to outlast the rumors and accusations.

Mac and Austin finally work through their problems before it is too late and get back to where they should have never left before their blow up. I am so glad this had a HEA for Mac and Austin. I believe that their relationship grew stronger and will stand the rumors because of having gone through this together. Thanks Jen for writing a story that depicted real life troubles even for everyday people. This was a great series!!

LOSING US by Jen McLaughlin is the follow up to Between Us. I loved, loved, loved following Austin and Mackenzie fall in love in Key West last year. Their spring break romance made me so giddy with joy. They had so much chemistry it was off the charts.

Now a year later the couple is facing some major problems. It is not easy being a celebrity. While Mackenzie is kind of used to it, Austin is not. Their fame could be the things that tears them apart.

Mackenzie come to surprise Austin and finds more than she could even imagine. Austin is backstage with a groupie who seems to imply they have had a hook up before. The groupie knows things, intimate things that no one should know about. She mentions how Austin feels trapped and not happy. Mackenzie is devastated. She can't believe what she is hearing.

Mackenzie makes things easier for Austin. She breaks up with him so he can be free to be with others and not tied down to her. Now that Austin's own career is taking off, she doesn't want him to feel like he is stuck with her when he can be out and free to experience his new found fame.

This story is a heartbreaking tale of when love doesn't seem to be enough. It broke my heart the turmoil that Austin and Mackenzie were going through. You never want to see a couple you love break up. You always want the HEA no matter what!!

Can love be enough to have things work out between Austin and Mackenzie??

I haven't read Between Us and so felt a little behind on this one--I don't think there was anything major that we needed to know from book one that isn't brought up here, but Mackenzie and Austin go from presumably-happy couple to broken up almost as soon as the book starts, which was a bit disconcerting. It felt a bit like coming into the middle of something--which I guess I was.

Still, it was a good read--if you've spent time with Mac and Austin before, probably doubly so. Things looked pretty bleak for a good chunk of the book, and I honestly wasn't sure Austin was going to be able to get himself out of the hole that wasn't entirely of his doing, but fortunately they managed to pull off an HEA.

Speaking of the ending, it was one of the best parts of the book--that, along with Jen McLaughlin's trademark sexy-times, made for an entertaining couple of hours. Mac's besties Cassie and Quinn are only in this one briefly, both of them involved in the drama of their own novellas, I'm sure.

Rating: 3 1/2 stars / B

Love! Love! Love!
This is book was sweet, sexy, and quite angsty.
This is the continuation of Mac and Austin's story.
They are happy living in bliss until their bubble is popped.
Austin has made some seriously dumb decisions.
He is now paying the price... Mac left him to be free.
Mac loves Austin but she doesn't know what to believe.
Trying to move on, she is ready to celebrate Spring Break.
Two hearts intertwined as one but for how long?
But Austin soon realizes he wants Mac and will do anything for her.
Can he prove his love to her or will it be too late?
I love Mac and Austin together.
They were crazy sexy between the sheets and had tons of chemistry.
I was rooting for these two along the way.
I am keeping my fingers crossed for one more installment to this series.
I recommend this series.

Austin and Mackenzie find themselves struggling with all of the time apart they have had to endure lately. With Mackenzie touring and writing a new album and Austin raising Rachel while still trying to pursue a dream in music things are just not working out in their schedules. Mackenzie decides to surprise Austin in Nashville at one of his shows and she is the one that gets the surprise. Both of them start doubting the other one's feelings and things spiral downhill quickly. Mackenzie decides for herself how Austin feels and that she isn't enough for him, despite for reassurances that she is. When it all finally comes to a head, Mackenzie and Austin realize that throwing in the towel without talking it out and fighting for their relationship isn't the way to go. It had a nice ending and I was glad I bought it.

2.5 stars, I think.

The thing that I hate the most in the books is the really stupid decisions some characters make. This book is one of those cases. I don't know how to rate this book and what to write in this review.

Almost all, the book is about Mackenzie making herself and Austin miserable and Austin tries to fix things. I am not a fan of that kind of books. What saved the book from complete ruination was the part after Mackenzie reads the card. Luke's story sounds very interesting and I would prefer a book with his story rather than a book with Mackenzie and Austin getting in more trouble. For another book I won't accept anything other than a HAPPY continuation of Mac and Austin's story, Luke's or Rachel's.

I was a big fan of Mac and Austin from Austin from Between Us so I have been anticipating this follow up for some time now. This was definitely not a disappointment! While Between Us was all about their getting together and falling for each other over Spring Break, Losing Us really gives the reader a follow up on their relationship. It's great since usually, with novellas, what you see is what you get--a short story leaving you yearning for more! It's nice to see that it wasn't an easy-peasy-happily-ever-after for them. Mac and Austin go through a lot of conflict in this installation of their story and the end of this novella leaves them off on a nice note (and, of course, leaves you wanting more Mac and Austin!!).

Losing Us is the first book I've read by Jen McLaughlin and it was one that made me a fan of hers. Losing Us is the story of Mac and Austin, but it's not their love story. Its the story of them overcoming an obstacle that got in the way of their happily ever after. What I didn't realize when I started reading the story was Losing Us is the second book about Mac and Austin, Between Us is the first. I enjoyed Losing Us quite a bit, but I think it would have been enhanced if I had read Between Us first, and Between Us is actually going to be the next book I read. As a stand alone, I give Losing Us 4.5 stars along with a must read recommendation for romance lovers.

I liked this one but felt it was a bit drawn out. These three books are described as novellas in a series that are all linked. What I really liked from the idea perspective was that they are written by three different authors. I think that they all linked them together was pretty cool. I liked this story even though it felt a bit drug out at times. Mac and Austin have an amazing chemistry and love that feels a little coerced sometimes. I felt that this novella was pushed to the max and could have had a bit less to make it better.

Overall, this was a 3-1/2 star book. Quick, good read but could have been better.

This story is heartbreaking and emotional. It's a good story of losing someone you love, finding each other, forgiveness, beginning again, and getting a second chance. It's a very nice story to read. It's full of feelings, both happy and sad. It also ends the way that fans would want it to.
