OVERLEAP ALL CONSTRAINTS

Rate this book
This book is a reflection of everything society told me not to write. Whenever the world said, "Don't do this, " I imagined my women doing exactly that. Set in the heart of Madras, the story follows three bold women who break every stereotype thrown at them. If you're looking for a safe, conservative read-this isn't it. These pages were born in silence, in moments when my phone was switched off and my thoughts were loud. This is about the side of society that people don't talk about, but live through every day. The cover might already hint at what's inside, but the truth of these women will unfold in a way you don't expect.

Overleap All Constraints is a heavy but important read. The story begins with one girl, yet quickly becomes a mirror for the harsh realities many women face- abuse, exploitation, and the kind of silent suffering society prefers to overlook. Some scenes, especially the bus assault, are deeply unsettling and painfully close to real-life horrors.

The book also brings in LGBTQ themes with characters like Nadidah and Nancy, adding heart, empathy, and another layer of truth. While the intention is strong, I’ll be honest-there were many moments that made me uncomfortable. Some parts felt powerful and necessary, but others left me questioning the choices or pacing. Still, the rawness and emotional honesty stand out, especially knowing it was written as a tribute to the author’s LGBTQ friend.

It’s not a light read, not an easy read, and definitely not for everyone. But if you’re willing to sit with uncomfortable truths about society, this book has a voice worth hearing.

This story may begin with one girl, but it speaks for countless women who endure pain, exploitation, and trauma at the hands of family members, lovers, and society itself. It exposes the silent suffering that begins at a young age , both mental and sexual abuse that leaves invisible scars shaping a woman’s entire life.

The narrative brings out the harsh realities of what women face in the name of love, promises of marriage, or even while seeking safety from their own relatives and police. Its like women are only body and not soul. Only used for bodily pleasures.

The bus assault scene is chilling, evoking memories of the Nirbhaya case and reminding us that such horrors are far from over. The glimpse into the lives of beggars adds another layer of empathy and social awareness. This story again has LGBTQ plot. Sometimes the characters speak using slang to their loved ones, which I didnot find appealing. Thus I leave that part to others to decide. The twist introduced at last was interesting. Nahdiah, Nancy's characters are appropriately developed and their roles shared another face of the harsh society.

What truly touched me was how the story highlights that love and support, whether from family or strangers can completely transform a person’s life.

But again once seen betrayal in near ones, change us so much, the trust factor is often gone before even breakage from anyone.

The themes of inclusiveness, acceptance, and humanity run deep throughout.

Though the writing style feels beginner-friendly and the pacing could be slower for emotional depth, the raw honesty deserves appreciation.

The cover, beautiful but quite bold, might be difficult to carry in public spaces. I felt it could have been more creative.

I believe the story is not for everyone. People who like to understand societies harsh ways and become empathetic can understand this book which author shared he wrote as a tribute to his lgbtq friend who killed himself sometime ago. So, its heartbreaking 💔

Still, the story’s intent, message, and courage to address social taboos make it a thought-provoking read.
