Avery is the new girl at Greybridge High, just trying to get through senior year in one piece. But then there's Jaxon Wolfe. The school's golden boy. He's cocky, charming and infuriatingly full of himself. From day one, they're constantly butting heads. He knows exactly how to get under her skin, and she never backs down. Their fights are loud, their tension louder, and everyone at school can feel it. They hate each other. At least... they're supposed to. But no matter how many times they swear they can't stand each other, they keep getting pulled back in. Again and again.
I liked the characters in this book, they had decent chemistry, too
But I didn’t really like the “romance” in this book. Like don’t get me wrong on this one I always love a nice possessive mc, but I think that you either need to keep it pretty shallow or pull it out from the beginning and make it dark, fantasy, or like really obvious about how possessive he’s gonna be. Which for me didn’t quite hit me for this book. Although this one I think is just me being picky.
I also did try really hard to like this book, but I honestly just couldn’t. Like there were scenes that were rlly cute and sweet and times where I rlly liked the book and I was like “this book has potential to be a 5 star read,” but there were also times when I just wanted to put it down and question my own sanity. And not in a very good way.
Like i get that it’s an enemies to loverish book and that it’s going to be a slow burn, but like i think that it really didn’t need to be dragged out that far.
I’d say this book is like a hit or miss, and I hate to say it but it was a miss for me.
I would say to still give it a try and I hope it hits for u
Thank you Tori Foster for choosing me as an arc reader for this book, and I give you the best of wishes in your journey as an author.
Avery is the new girl at Greybridge High, trying to survive her senior year without drama. That's it until Jaxon Wolfe take a notice of her. Hate is to simple word to describe the way she feel abot him. Jaxon will not let her be invisible, and hating him it's only a beginning.
What can happened when two damaged souls meet?
I liked the premise of the book, from enemies to something...,one of my favorite trope, but this book was just ok. The hate between them come from nothing ,continuing for most of the book.It was rushed, at times they behave very immature, and then they said something profound that make them seem like adults. I guess it just not for me, it was messy chaos.
Thank you author for arc,the review is honest and my own.
I am giving this book a 3.5 stars. It was good but could have been better and more depth. If you are looking for an easy read with just some tension while people are dealing with trauma, then this is your book.
First off, I found this a cute and easy read. Very much felt like a high school read. There is mention of an “adult” scene but details are off paper and it's brief. I would have loved to see this book have more depth to it. The characters had the potential to be more and same with their story. This book is about Avery (MFC) where she is introduced to Jaxon (the troubled football player). I found the love/hate pull right away was a little fast. I felt like this could have been lead up especially with his "girlfriend/ex" causing issues. She meets her new bestie but it doesn't go into explanation why she was transferring after her senior year already started. Toward the end of the book, there is some mention of an ex but there isn't a lot there. What happened there? And after he was contacted? It was just left off. I did like how Jaxon has felt that he is never good enough due to his trauma and together Avery and Jaxon are trauma bonded in a way. I also felt that her love for photography (which at the end there is a picture she took) wasn't really brought up in the story. I did like how the book is written from an almost daily perspective where it goes through the school days. There isn't a lot about her father in the book either which makes you wonder what is going on with his job (and I don't recall mention of mom).
Overall it was an easy read that has a lot of potential and the characters are memorable.
I was provided a copy of this book and I am deciding to leave a voluntary review of my thoughts on the book.
I’m conflicted a bit on this one. Some parts felt a little rushed or like they were missing something and the end left me with questions. That being said, I found myself interested and engaged for the entire book. I was happy when things got better then yelling at my kindle when they went south again. My favorite part was the FMC’s sassy attitude. If you love angsty YA books with enemies to lovers, check it out.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t a huge fan of this book. I was genuinely confused with the dynamic between Avery and Jaxon. The story felt rushed and I just couldn’t get into it.
Perhaps I’m just too old for this type of writing style / theme and I’m not able to connect personally
ARC Review 4⭐️ This book is a fun, fiery enemies-to-lovers romance packed with banter, tension, and just the right amount of heart. The chemistry between the main characters is undeniable and their slow-burn transformation from rivals to something deeper feels real. Overall it’s a witty, addictive read that delivers on both sass and swoon.
Hate You First by Tori Foster is a fiery, addictive enemies-to-lovers romance that perfectly captures the chaos, tension, and thrill of teenage love. Set in the halls of Greybridge High, the story follows Avery the sharp-tongued new girl just trying to survive senior year and Jaxon Wolfe, the school’s golden boy who seems to make it his mission to drive her crazy.
