Police sirens ring louder while blood drips from my hands. I must hide, but it’s Christmas Eve, and all houses shine with colorful lights. All but one.
Too late do I realize the house is not empty. A woman lives here alone, hidden in the dark and playing a game. I don’t kill innocents. It’s my only rule. The woman doesn’t scream or try to call the police. Her big, green eyes take me in with curiosity, and not even the blood on my gloves makes her flinch. She sees me at my worst—and she doesn’t run. “I’ve always wanted to meet a murderer,” she says. “Want some eggnog?”
This is a spicy Christmas novella involving a serial killer, a shut-in gamer, and toe-curling romance. Careful, it’s hot!
Sign up for my newsletter: here. Layla Fae writes steamy monster romance of many varieties. Fluffy or dark, with TWs ranging from flavored monster essence used as food to blood play and dark taboo romance, she explores the fantasy of monster love from various angles. She is not an author for the faint of heart.
Alright, where do I even begin? This definitely isn’t Layla Fae’s usual writing style... Normally, Layla writes Sci-fi romance novels, and this is her second spicy holiday novella... Honestly, I wish she’d write one every Christmas... but that’s just my two cents... So, let’s be real, if you’ve read any of this author’s work, you know this isn’t going to be your typical sweet Christmas romance.
To be honest, I was pretty shocked when I found out this author was dropping another book so soon after her last release. But either way, I was really excited because I loved the Christmas short story from last year. Prudence is a gamer and a bit of a recluse, the quirky girl who hardly talks to anyone in real life. She dropped out of college to look after her grandfather, who sadly passed away less than a year later.
Rowley ………He’s a hitman, but he leads a pretty normal life aside from that. He works as a junior environmental consultant at a small firm. It’s your standard nine-to-five gig, Ultimately, he ends up picking only a few contracts kills throughout the year
For those who appreciate short stories that transition from instant desire to love, featuring a bit of graphic violence, humor, witty exchanges, and some romantic escapades, all set against a festive Christmas backdrop, this is a must-read.
I was super excited to read this book. I loved A Very Stalker Christmas and had such high books for A Very Killer Christmas. Unfortunately it didn't deliver.
Firstly this book felt very rushed. The writing, the plot, romance, whole lay out of the book was extremely rushed.
I love an obsessive MMC. But this is the first time ever that I actually disliked it.
Rowley was only obsessed with her and "in love/lust" with her because she knew and accepted him as a killer. Well 'accepted' is reaching out. More like she was intrigued by him been a killer. Yeah I didn't feel that connection at all. One second he had no interest in her and the next he wants to marry her and he loves her?? Make it make sense! There's instalust and instalove, this was super instant! It cheapened the whole romance and their relationship. (He actually says in the book that 10 mins before he wasn't interested in her 🙄)
I really wished that Rowley was a virgin as well. It would have made the book so much more better for me personally.
And finally.... Prudence. I just couldn't take her seriously with a name like that. 🙈 And every time he called her Prudy 😵
Rowley finds himself on the run with blood on his hands while Christmas lights twinkle around him, but one house stands out in the darkness. Inside, he meets Prudence, a mysterious woman who doesn’t flinch at the blood or call the police, instead meeting Rowley’s gaze with curiosity. In that moment, Rowley discovers someone who sees him at his worst and invites him in, setting the stage for a dangerous and unexpected connection.
This romance isn’t really a dark romance at all. It’s more of a fun, quirky meet-cute between a killer and a recluse gamer girl, packed into a short, holiday-themed novella.
Prudence is just so innocent and adorable, and Rowley has no idea what to do with her at first. But very quickly, he decides she’s his, no questions asked. He tries to backpedal on his previous threats after breaking into her house bloody and terrifying, convincing her he’s really not a threat. Prudence doesn’t quite know what to make of him either, but she can’t deny that finally having a real, hot man in her house is a little exciting.
I will say the spice was a bit lighter than I expected. I would have loved a little more of that fiery tension, but honestly, sometimes we can’t have it all, and the story still delivers in charm and humor.
Overall, it’s a cute, funny, and heartwarming killer romcom novella that’s perfect for the holidays. I definitely enjoyed it and would recommend it if you want something short, sweet, and a little unconventional.
⟣Tropes⟢ ✅ Touch her and 💀 ✅ 🩶 Morally Grey MMC 🩶 ✅ Obsessive/JP MMC ✅ Dual POV’s (first person) ✅ Insta-Lust ✅ Virgin FMC (very very virgin) ✅ He falls first ✅ Grumpy/Sunshine vibes ✅ Serial Unaliver ✅ MINE ✅ HEA
It wasn't one of my favourites. It starts off well, it's fun, but that's about it. Insta love taken to the next level. And I like obsessed men, but this one is a bit of cringe.
As many Layla Fae books this had just the right amount of character development and spice. Enough yearning from both characters to make you beg for more but true connection. I find that even though this was instalove for Rowley. I love that it wasn’t for Prudence so it was realistic. The meet on Christmas Eve the day he unalived someone. He was a hired hitman who unfortunately was just a bit unlucky that day. Then he met Prudence and his luck came back ten fold. In this cute little novella you have the pleasure of falling for these two over and over and seeing how quirky two polar opposites fall deeply in love. I’m happy I read this right before Christmas this bought joy to my really crappy Friday evening.
Is it possible for a murderer to be a wish fulfilment boyfriend? Yes, it is in this ooey-gooey sweet and spicy holiday romance.
A few warnings: the spice happens quite late in this book (although the cooing/coaxing worked for me 😅), and I had a bit of whiplash in the middle, but it’s a spicy holiday novella so who cares about proper story build up!

Wow this was bad. I’m sorry. I loved the one from last year the stalker romance yes please. This was so hard to read. I hate unexpected pregnancy. This was so cringe. Rowley was gross. Prudence was weird. Nope.
This book had me giggling, blushing, and kicking my feet in the most unhinged way possible.
It’s giving dark romance brain rot but make it funny and somehow… heartwarming? If you know those memes where the FMC gets kidnapped and goes from “oh no 😰” to “oh… okay 👀”—that’s the vibe. And it made me laugh out loud.
Unhinged? Yes. Funny? Absolutely. Surprisingly soft underneath the chaos? Also yes.
I devoured this and smiled the whole time. Highly recommend if you like dark romance with humor and heart. 🖤✨
This book made me feel icky 🤢 The love bombing and emotional manipulation of a vulnerable person were not cute. It felt like he was grooming her. Every single interaction raised more and more red flags 🚩🚩🚩
Reading this felt like reading a depressing reddit post. The whole time I was just cringing and begging these people to seek professional help.
The only reason this book got one star from me is because they saved the neglected dog.
Having read ‘A Very Stalker Christmas’ last year, you know I just had to read this one. Not really much I can give you without totally spoiling it and it really is a quick Christmas novella with a S3rial killer and an agrophobe. Some tension, a little spice, some Christmas cheer, a few scoff moments and plenty of ‘awww!’ moments.
Layla’s writing is just perfect in this little novella, leading us in with a little drama then serving us with a dish of sweet deliciousness 🤌🎄
This!! This is the book I needed to get me out of the reading slump, 148 pages… of just Christmassy love!
No lie, at first I didn’t vibe with Prudence but by the end GIRL!! You are that girl and honestly she deserves everything good!!! And Rowley? That man! Everyone needs a man like Rowley… and the amount of times I was giggling out loud! The spicy does start quite far into the book but it doesn’t take away from anything before it and when it does start, it definitely heats up!
Absolutely recommend if you’re looking for an easy read to get you feeling Christmassy and hot under the mistletoe!
Yet another amazing book by Layla Fae. When I got this book on my kindle I instantly started reading it and couldn’t stop until the very last page. I thought Prudy was super cute and relatable when it comes to us book girlies who would act the same way if a guy like Rowley came into our lives. And the pieces of art within the book is 🤌 Chefs Kiss! If you like possessive men who would worship you just to make you happy this book is most definitely for you!
I love dark romance but not gonna lie this man is a little creepy to me even though he is cute? my feelings are everywhere lol my morals are smashed and I don't think it was in a cutesy way 😭😭

I’ve long been a fan of Layla Fae’s work, and this novella is no exception. Her writing style has an effortless way of drawing readers into the scene, making you feel as though you’re right there with her characters. The serial hit man for hire? No different, you’re right there with him as he’s running from the police.
So why 3.5 stars? For me, the biggest drawback was the format. This story had the potential to kill it as a full-length novel rather than a novella. The premise was strong but there’s so much more I wanted to know about the MMC and his past. How did he become a hired hit man? What does a day in his life look like? He’s written with a sharp sense of humor, and with a bit more time, I think readers could have grown even more attached to him.
I also found myself agreeing with other reviewers who mentioned that the romance veers into *insta-love* territory a bit too quickly, and not in the darkly obsessive way that might fit the tone of the story or the draw of the dark romance reader. I understand the constraints of a shorter format, but that’s exactly why I wish this had been expanded. A longer novel could have given the relationship more room to breathe and allowed their chemistry to feel more authentic. We love an obsessive MMC as much as the next girlies, but I also need the ick factor to not hit near immediately.
Do I think you should still read it? Absolutely. It’s got its funny moments, it’s spiiiicy (I might have cackled at the grower comment) moments and lots in between. And at the very least… check out that character art, as always *chefs kiss*
It started out well enough but lost a little more charm every time the fmc remembered she wasn't supposed to be into the contract killer thing. Like, girl, just go with it; we're not reading these things for the moral high ground. Her constantly asking him why he was attracted to her got old so fast because no way a hot killer would find her pretty, she's just a gamer girl - basically the 2020's version of the 80/90/00's pretty girl who's not hot because she wears glasses and a ponytail.
The two mildly spicy scenes were meh - I don't think this author is going to make it into the frequent KU rotation.
ARC review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Very Killer Christmas by Layla Fae This story was adorable! The pacing was perfect — it kept me hooked from start to finish without ever feeling rushed. I absolutely loved the chemistry between the characters. The MFC was so relatable, especially in how she fell for the MMC in such a sweet and shy way. And honestly, who can resist a man who absolutely worships his girl? The spice was chef’s kiss 🤌🏻 just the right amount and so well done. And the artwork… fans self 🥵 absolutely stunning. Such a fun, cozy, and sexy holiday read! 🎄🔥
2.75⭐️- How many red flags can you realistically fit into one short novella? 🚩🚩🚩 Apparently… all of them 😬🎄
This one somehow managed to be even cringier than the previous book, which honestly feels like an achievement of its own 🫠. Logic took a very festive holiday ✈️, questionable decisions were made repeatedly, and I spent half the book side-eyeing the characters like “be so serious right now” 👀😂
That said… the spice did ALL the heavy lifting 🌶️🔥💪 Plot? Wobbly. 🫨 Red flags? Abundant. 🚩 Characters? Quite cartoonish 🐶 Spice? Carrying this novella on its back like Santa with a sack full of chaos 🎅🌶️
On the plus side, this one was definitely more Christmassy 🎄✨decorations, vibes, seasonal nonsense fully present and accounted for.
Is it good? Debatable 🤷♀️ Is it ridiculous? Absolutely. Did I still inhale it? …Yes, but had to push though to get to the spice 😌📖
Messy, cringe, spicy, and festive proceed at your own (holiday) risk 🎄🚩🔥
She's akin to a pixie, a girl who's only halfway here and halfway in some other secret world.
💭 i feel called out!! coz tbh, as a reader... im sure i am same in more times than i can admit😆 rowley is...committed!! as instant as it may seem, all it took was 1 act from prudence that saved his life that xmas eve & she got him for life!! & i totally get that!! loyal to the ppl who deserves it. & prudence def did!! ugh!! poor girl had been living alone with her grief & guilt with no one to see bout her. she needed someone to tc of her & he badly needed someone to tc of. so whether it was destiny or not, as unconventional as their meeting was, i like how this ended!! especially theres a bit of a found fam vibe in the end. super sweet!! lookn foward to the nxt book in the series!!
Because come on. A hot killer, in my house, in my bathroom, undressing? How is this not a fantasy?
✨book 2 of the Spicy Holiday series but can be read as a complete standalone ✨ thankU Layla Fae for this charming eARC & am voluntarily leaving my honest thoughts🎄❄️ ‼️ ur mental health matters. ✔️🆃🆆/🅲🆆
Who would have thought that after nearly botching a contracted k!ll that he would stumble into an apparently abandoned house only to find her?!?! He’s fallen for her and he doesn’t even know her name yet! He should kill her and save himself because surely she will tell the police about his crazy a$$… right?? This was a short and sweet story with all the vibes you want!! Definitely recommend!!
