A Doll's Game

Rate this book
He watched her, protected her, and wanted her. But he wasn't the only one.

Wren Neely never asked for a stalker, but Detective Silas Woods isn't just watching - he's pulling her into a dangerous game of dares, rewards, and control. A game she swears she doesn't want to play... yet can't resist.

Ruthless, obsessive, and devoted in all the wrong ways, Silas isn't the kind of man a woman should trust. But he's the one who knows her darkest secrets, and the only one willing to bury them.

If Wren wants to survive, she'll have to stop being the doll on someone else's shelf and start writing the rules herself.

Because obsession is a game with no winners. Only players.

✨️ARC REVIEW✨️
Thankyou Madion for this arc opportunity! I'm officially obsessed with your writing! 😍

"I'm not going to be able to let you go, Wren. Even if you beg for it."

This book delivers so much more than your typical dark romance. Yes, the delicious spice is *chef’s kiss*, but it also weaves in a gripping psychological-thriller edge. Survival, danger, and the fierce journey of a woman reclaiming her power. It felt like the perfect blend of two of my favourite genres, with twists and intensity I absolutely did not see coming.

It’s wildly addictive. You physically cannot put it down because you have to uncover the next clue, feel the charged tension between Silas and Wren, and soak in every moment of that unstoppable, womanly strength.

I can’t say much more without spoiling the ride and trust me, you’ll want to experience every part of it yourself. I highly, highly recommend this book!

I'm someone who mostly reads fantasy and all its subgenres. I rarely venture into other fields. And yet, I have a rule that I live by. A rule that says I follow the authors I love wherever they go, wherever their mind and their inspiration take them. I follow them, and I pledge myself to them. And this rule has never led me astray.

Madison is one of those authors. An author who has my undying support and whose work I'll never stop reading and raving about. So when Madison wrote a dark romance, my question was, "When can I read it?". I read it. I lived it. And I cried about it.

Stalker romances aren't what I usually go for; in fact, I almost never reach for them. And yet this one was so deeply layered and intricate that I allowed myself to feel it all. The good and the bad. The pain and the hurt. The love. The obsession. Silas and Wren may have had an unorthodox beginning, but it evolved into something otherworldly. They are two scarred souls, each with their own set of trauma and emotional burdens, fighting their demons in their own ways. And it is those scars that make them so good for each other. They can be scarred and flawed together. They can heal each other, but also allow each other to keep those darker parts of themselves.

A Doll's Game is so much more than a dark romance. Silas and Wren aren't the only players in this game. There is someone far more scarred than both of them, lurking and waiting for the right moment to strike.

This is a deadly game, a dark thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat and your heart in your throat for most of the book. You won't eat, you won't sleep until you reach the end of this story. Madison makes it impossible for you to do anything other than read, follow clues, and solve a murderous spree.

A Doll's Game is, above all, a story of survival on your own terms. A tale of a woman fighting and gaining control. You may bend, but you will never break.

Thank you, Madison, for allowing me to ARC read for you once again. Thank you.

I'm not usually the biggest fan of Stalker romances... I have a hard time getting behind the relationship in those instances but I must say Wren & Silas' is the one that might just break that streak for me. In the end, I absolutely loved them for each other. This book had SO MUCH more than I expected - the psychological thriller aspect kept me on the end of my seat. Although the suspect was quite predictable (I'm not sure it was really meant to be hard to figure out), I could not 100% predict how all the events were going to turn out. This book will have your heart racing at times and pull on the heart strings at others... you really feel for Wren, the FMC, and all she endures. I loved the emphasis on her not being broken and surviving. I REALLY loved the flip of power/control in their relationship at times. The spice is HOT. Overall, I REALLY enjoyed this book. I couldn't put it down and stayed up entirely way too late reading it.

Thank you to the Author, Madison, for this early copy.

This dark romance hit the exact sweet spot for me. I’m always cautious with this genre because the line between “dark” and “dubious consent” can get blurry fast, but this one balanced moral corruption, tension, and boundary-respecting romance perfectly.

The story opens with a dramatic hook: the FMC commits an accidental crime in self-defense… and her stalker MMC shows up to help her cover it up. From there, she wrestles with the mind games he’s playing, unaware he’s also a detective, one who soon uncovers the presence of another stalker in her life (and not in the hot way).

I was enthralled from start to finish. The pacing is tight, the tension is delicious, and the ending wrapped everything up masterfully with that perfect final line: “game over.”

Without giving anything away, the third act absolutely broke my heart. I’ll never understand how horribly the justice system can treat victims. But the MMC handled everything exactly right; supportive, patient, and letting the FMC lead every step of the way. It made their relationship feel genuinely romantic, even within the dark, twisted setup.

The spice was great, the suspense kept me on edge, and the plot felt fully balanced. A standout dark romance read, and definitely worth picking up if you like your morally gray heroes with actual respect and your darkness with boundaries.

Definitely pick this one up when it drops on December 20th 2025!

“God, you tell me the prettiest lies. They’re intoxicating.”

I haven’t read a dark romance book that has kept me captivated and on the edge of my seat in a LONNGGG time.

Wren is living her quiet little life until an unfortunate accident happens with her on again off again boyfriend. Enter Silas, the mysterious English detective who is also her stalker. Their chemistry is *chef’s kiss* with quick witted banter from both characters. One of the aspects I loved about this book was Wren being such a strong FMC and not a pushover. With Crow so vividly describing Wren’s thoughts as she struggles to push Silas away.

I only wish we saw more of Harlem through the rest of the book. Bits that just me and my cat loving self.

✨No cheating ✨No cliffhanger

This was a 3.5 ⭐️ read for me

I loved the story of an obsessive stalker where he knows what he’s doing is wrong but he’s so infatuated he can’t stop and would burn the world down to save her. This book opens with Wren, our FMC, accidentally killing her boyfriend after an argument turned physical. Silas, our MMC, helps cover up the manslaughter and this is how the story begins.

The story then follows as Wren learns that Silas is not the only one stalking her and now with her consensual stalker has to try to out maneuver her second stalker.

While the story is action packed there were times I was hoping for the plot line to be more developed like more time of Wren adjusting after her kidnapping, Silas and Wren rebuilding their relationship, or more time for what was happening for either of them during Wren’s captivity. I felt like the story didn’t need the Travis plot thread to be there and it could have used the time devoted to that thread to bolster the stalking and kidnapping plot threads instead.

The pacing at times felt like I was strapped into a roller coaster in the middle of the ride and I was hanging on for dear life. While this kept my attention it made it hard to fully immerse myself in the story. What I enjoy in dark romances is that even in those quiet moments when the MC are connecting and we see the romance taking off you can still feel the tension of the outside force that pushes the “dark” side of the dark romances.

Overall I thought there were good moments between Silas and Wren as they got to know each other and watch how their relationship grows and bends under the weight of trauma.

Trauma/Comfort

Men in Uniform

Captive/Captor

Wren didnt want a stalker(who happens to be a detective) but when she discovers him, she doesnt realize it now but he is the least she should fear. She starts to play his game and realizes how much games can be. Her past comes back to haunt her in a way she never thought would happen.

Wren is a strong and independent woman who has dealt with quite a bit of trauma in the past. Loved her best friend Dalli! Silas seems dangerous at first but once you get to know his story it shows his softer side. He loves hard and fell hard. Loved how the title landed the plot so perfectly! The plot was well detailed and the pace of the story flowed seamlessly. The only part that was hard to read was her experience during captivity but I enjoyed pretty much everything else about the book!

Really loved the book and its characters but please read the triggers before you read as some on page situations that can be sensitive to some. I would recommend and look foward to reading another one of her books soon!

Thoughts regarding the audience the book was intended for.

This book snaps your attention from the very beginning. The very first page starts with a murder. Or is it self defense? Depends on how you see it, but either way, it’s a damn good way to kick off this story.

Then you’ve got the tragically flawed, morally gray detective who gave me Zane vibes. He’s obsessed with his doll and overly protective. Raising every last red flag, yet Wren just can’t bring herself to say no to him. The chemistry is off the charts and the spice is super intense!

But wait for it, there’s just not just one, but two stalkers in this book. The author is an overachiever. Lol. I wasn’t expecting such a thorough storyline. Usually with stories like this, stalker, obsession, dark romance, you scrap the surface of the issues. But this book gets into it all and will keep you invested until the very end.
There are a lot of trigger warnings and make sure you pay attention to them because there’s so many dark issues explored here. But if you can get past them… Wow! You won’t be disappointed!

This was a 4.5 star book for me, and 4 peppers on the spicy scale. This story contains multiple open door, detailed scenes, not vanilla, but is still plot based.

This was a story that was hard to read at times, mainly because of the emotions I felt while reading. It is a story that I will absolutely read again. It’s a dark romance, and ends with a HEA.

Silas is a British man, a detective, and starts out as Wren’s stalker. Wren is a bookstore owner, has a complicated relationship with her ex, discovers Silas has been stalking her, and he helps her bury a dark secret. Oh, and together they find she has another stalker too.

I was fascinated with the amount of character development in this story. There was so much trauma, healing, growth. I appreciated that Madison didn’t gloss over the healing process, but took us through the gritty process that Wren went through.

I think that this story is going to resonate with dark romance lovers, as well as survivors of trauma. It’s healing in the ways that only dark romance can be.

Are you in need of a book boyfriend covered in tattoos, a little stalker-y, and more than a little morally gray? Then Silas Woods is your man.
He’s a homicide detective who prefers his extracurricular activities on the unhinged side, drives one smokeshow of a classic car, has a thing for cameras,👀 and did I mention the tattoos? SWOON
To say I’m obsessed with him would be an understatement 🤭
As for our FMC Wren… Does she NEED Silas to clean up her messes and protect her? Absolutely not, but I’m so glad she gives in because even though she’s a baddie battling her trauma with snark (and a touch of humor on the darker side), the two of them together are a match made in spicy heaven 🥵

I am beyond happy that Madison chose to step away from fantasy for a moment and dip her little toes into dark romance because she absolutely nailed it!

🖤 Absolutely be sure to check the TW’s before reading.

Oh. Em. Gee!!! Where do I even begin? Beginning went out with a bang like a lamp smashed against an exes head. Main character is bookshop owner whose life is turned upside down when a gentleman walks in and has no problem or questions asked when he helps bury her ex (yes she smashed the lamp against his head and killed him….sorry for that spoiler). Book goes on to have a few murders where we learn our MMC is a detective (stalker vibes AND a detective hello!) and is on cases about young women being murdered and somehow it tying in to our MFC. I wish I could spoil more to this story, but I refuse to because why would I spoil the fun? If you like stalker, power plays, someone who will “be the devil that worships at the altar I’d build for her and happily burn in the flames she would light to bring it all down.” This book is for you. If there was a way to give more than 5 stars I would🖤

“I’m her salvation wrapped in ruin, and she’s weeping on her knees for it.”
That line alone had me hooked, and trust me, the rest of the book did not disappoint.

A Doll’s Game was insanely good. I absolutely devoured this story. The writing is sharp, the pacing flawless, and the tension? Chef’s kiss. Madison P. Crow knows how to keep you turning pages like your life depends on it.

And Silas… Silas. Someone send help because I should not want any man stalking me, but here I am, fully obsessed 😭🔥 New book boyfriend alert! I mean, “who hasn’t dreamt of a hot guy willing to do despicable things for you?” 👀

Morally grey stalker? Check.
Bookstores and murders? Double check.
A dark, delicious story that will have you questioning your morals? Absolutely.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
An intoxicating, twisted read! A Doll’s Game is a must for dark romance fans who love a little danger with their devotion.

HOLY DANG BLIMEY, SOMEBODY HOLD MY SNACKS.
I inhaled this book in five hours—FIVE—like my eyeballs went full Olympic sprint, and honestly? Worth every second of my self-inflicted emotional damage. The writing? Gorgeous. The characters? I am now legally married to Silas in my mind, and Wren could run me over with a truck and I’d say “thank you.”

The plot twists had me snatching the air like I was trying to catch my own soul leaving my body. Every tense scene felt like the universe yelling, “YOU THOUGHT!” The spice? Oh, honey… I had to reread those scenes a couple of times just to confirm they were actually real because GIRLLLLL.

Madison, you chaotic genius—this was a five-star dark romance snack I will be thinking about until further notice.

ARC read. Holy crap. This one is going to go down as a 6⭐️ read for me. This one grabbed me from the very first page and I could not put it down. We meet Wren Neely, the troubled badass bookstore owner who has deadly aim with a lamp. And Silas Woods, the 6’4 British stalker man with platinum blonde hair…. Who by chance is a homocide detective for the police department. Silas is chasing down the serial killer that just so happens to be dropping bodies that look like Wren. The way everything unfolds and ties together had my jaw on the floor. And sobbing near the end. So good. Must read if you love Dark romance!

Holy Cow! A Doll's Game is do deliciously dark and unhinged. Wren questions her sanity (and I questioned mine) as we both fell for her seriously hot stalker! I mean, she's a goth girl with her own book store and a sexy, British stalker detective...sign me up please! This book gave me Law & Order SVU vibes but way more in depth and I do believe Silas might beat out Stabler for sexiness!

This book is not for the light hearted, though. There is some serious trauma in here, so please read the trigger warnings before diving in. But, if you do love yourself some triggers, this book is for you!

Have you ever ended a book and just had the urge to applaud? Because I seriously wanted to give this book a standing ovation! This author has a beautiful way of hurting your heart and then healing it again... And I mean that as a compliment!
Wren is like every bookish girls alter ego, and Silas is every bookish girls dream stalker. There's mystery, action, spice, triggers.. I mean, it's everything you could want in a Dark Stalker Romance!

Now this is a well written dark stalker romance. This MMC is the definition of supportive boyfriend, you know in a morally grey professional follower kind of way. He would burn the world for the one he is obsessed with. And oooohhhhh when I say I would be fine if that was me shows my grey flags. The push and pull between the MMC and the FMC is delectable and enticing. Honestly pure gold. I will be reading more by this author as I thoroughly enjoyed the writing style. Definitely recommend.

Wow!

What a book !!!

A doll's game is my first ever stalker romance and I feel that not only has Madison set the bar, she is the bar. I enjoyed this book so much. Wren and Silas chef's kiss. Just when you think you know what's happening and going to happen, boom, another twist. The writing kept me so engaged and flowed so well between both pov's. It was the perfect balance of good characters, good storytelling, crime, spice and mystery.

Thank you to Madison for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

This book was a fast paced, spicy dark romance with tension, stalkers and mystery. Wren is a fabulous FMC who runs a bookshop. She is strong and funny. Silas is a detective who in all his delulu smirky glory was obsessed perfection. They had serious chemistry on page. I enjoyed reading the emotional growth between them as the story unfolded. The writing here was so well done and super engaging. I had so many emotions with this book. There were moments of dark humor which were hilarious, so one minute I was laughing and the next there was danger which gave me anxiety and fear for the characters. They really go through a lot. Overall, it was a wild ride and I really enjoyed it.

“Who hadn’t dreamt of a hot guy willing to do despicable things for you?”

I received an arc copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. Something about Madison P. Crow’s writing transports you and makes you forget about your reality for a little bit. Never have I had a book boyfriend before but I can confidently say that Silas is my new obsession 🤤. This book was the perfect blend of spice, kink, mystery, and thriller to check all of the boxes I love to get lost in. Just when you think things can’t get any better or more all consuming, they do and leave you reeling and desperate for more. This was a page turner from start to finish. It had me kicking my feet, laughing out loud, squealing, gasping, and more than obsessed the entire book. I simply cannot recommend enough and I will definitely be reading more from this author to get another fix in soon!
