What a book!
I was promised a medieval Asian fantasy with a caste system, three love interests and a faith versus traditions plot and this book delivered!
The cover is stunning and so is the character art inside the (E) book. I was however a bit confused when I read the prologue and it took me a bit to really get into the story because of the complexity of the caste system, all the different names and the beautiful but extensive descriptions. This isn’t a book you can read with your head turned “off” or for someone who wants an easy read.
We start of strong with a threat, unicorns and a waterdragon. The stakes are high and the mood is set. The FMC is strong, stubborn and has a mind of her own. Being raised high up in the caste system, she has everything her heart desires. But despite all her riches, she struggles with the morality of things. Her faith slowly crumbles while she struggles with the unfairness of the system and traditions. Will society crumble once traditions are no longer upheld? And would you still stand behind your father when he cloaks his cruelty in rituals and traditions? Meanwhile there is a triangle love interest that shows just how the system works. Being a princess she has to marry a prince. But does love stick to the boundaries of wealth?
This book shows how hard it can be to uphold faith and traditions with self-preservation and morality. What would you chose, your friends, or more than a dozen children? What happens to faith when you consistently pray to a god that doesn’t answer? It’s the rich versus the poor and how far do you go in the name of traditions? The book is full off questions that make you wonder. The doubts and realizations are sprinkled all over the book making it a fascinating read that really makes you think.
In the end, will she go against her believes and everything she has been taught to get the truth out? Will she chose death or sacrifice her soul to stay alive?
The writing in this book is beautiful. The characters are well thought out and the caste system is intriguing. It really makes you think. Would you pay the price for doing the right thing? Or let others pay the price for the choices you have made? Because every act of mercy does leave another throat exposed! I loved this book and ended up giving this book 4,5 stars!

Beautiful CLEAN romantasy!!
Why I loved this book: If you long for CLEAN romantasy with a FMC who actually evolves into an amazing woman you cheer for, this is your book!
I could NOT put this one down! The world-building… phenomenal. Jolene Fine spun an epic adventure filled with mythical creatures (UNICORNS!?! YES please!!), magic, all set in a visually stunning Asian inspired culture. And yes, I say visually stunning because Miss Jolene’s writing style is so descriptive she envelopes you right into Eosia with Isabelle. Descriptive yes, but not the overly flowery type where the author is just word vomiting or randomly throwing in $25 words the author nabs from a thesaurus. NOT the case here. If it is in this book, Jolene Fine has a purpose for it.
This beautifully captivating story is one of action, adventure, self discovery, with a sweet love story. All while finding faith in a world held to ancient traditions by fear.
The artwork! THANK YOU!! I loved it. So beautiful.
Why I only gave it 4 stars:
There were some minor errors that another round of proof reading would correct. An avid reader (it’s me!!) would be honored to give it a final proof.
I am a horse girl… No snapping of the reins. Isabelle referred to her unicorn stallion as “it” multiple times in one scene. I wish there had been more of Isabelle’s connection with her unicorn.
A few times I found myself startled by a sudden transition.
RECOMMENDATION:
Read it! This book is sooo worth it. I will be adding this to my read again list. As well as adding all the rest of Jolene Fine’s works to my TBR!!

This is my first book that takes place in an Asian inspired setting and it truly was beautifully written with absolutely beautiful artwork. The story is about a young princess’s courage, faith, devotion, and being an advocate to stand up for fairness, compassion, and integrity no matter what it can and will cost her in the eyes of her people, siblings, suitors, and her father the emperor that is purely evil, cruel, and unjust. The strength that Isabelle shows gives readers a sense of courage to be resilient, yet still show kindness and bravery even in the most difficult of times when even mercy can bring you to your knees. If you are looking for a book that pulls you in, makes you cheer for the sacrifices made in the name of justice, fairness, and believing in not backing down for what you believe in, this book hits the spot in every way. It will make you proud, bring tears of happiness and sadness to your eyes, and makes your soul soar. This book definitely gives you all the emotions you’re looking for.

I really enjoyed this story. The main character is born to a father who portrays himself as a god, and as she grows, she begins to struggle with her beliefs. As she learns more about the world and witnesses things that go against what she was taught, she starts to question everything.
Isabelle is faced with many challenges that push her to rethink what she believes. As she begins to see her father as a man rather than a god, her perspective shifts, and it starts to change not only her world, but the lives of those in her kingdom as well.
This is a great story about a young girl who becomes the spark for the change her society needs.
I highly recommend this book if you enjoy stories about questioning faith, challenging societal norms, unicorn riders, and clean storytelling.

Daughter of Devotion
This book was given to me as an ARC here is my honest and voluntarily review. I gave this book a 3.75 ⭐️ . I really enjoyed the book 📕 this book from the very first page pulls you into a richly imagined world filled with tradition, sacrifice, and quiet strength . She will have to sacrifice who she is and what she believes in . The main Characters romance is tender, slow burning, and emotionally powerful.

I liked the the idea of the FMC discovering how devotion was being misused and how it emphasizes that devotion is not blind obedience. Especially when fighting threats and she starts to question what she was raised to believe in and I liked that she started seeing the problems within the system and was trying to restore balance. The world building was overall amazing, very in depth and detailed along with the characters and the explanations

✨✨This one took me some time to get into with the complex world building but once you get into it you won’t be disappointed✨✨

Character Driven and Well Written
Inspired by a fantasy-asian setting, Daughter of Devotion is a stand alone novel in a larger world already established by the author. Unicorn riders, Water Dragons, and Celestials are just some of what will be encountered.
The novel follows Isabelle, a princess born of privilege and power who questions the status quo. When her people are threatened, she starts to go against tradition, upsetting her tyrannical father. She threads the line between being dutiful to her culture and customs and doing what she believes is right. Isabelle herself is an introspective and resilient, so she will probably resonate with readers who want to read about a heroine who values truth, goodness, as well as a duty to family and her people. There’s a love triangle but the story is clean, so I have no problem recommending it to younger readers.
Overall, it’s a beautiful aesthetic and well written. It’s got a few more adventurous and exciting moments, but overall I thought the story was more philosophical and quiet as opposed to bold and nail-biting. It’s clean and wholesome, part of a larger universe but stands on its own.
If I were to critique, we have unicorn riders but I wanted more about their dynamic with their riders. Some ideas are hinted at but not explored, but given that this is a story set in a larger universe, it’s okay that we don’t explore every crevice the world has to offer. Asia is a big place with a long history, so don’t go in if you’re looking for an accurate depiction of a given era so much as inspired by and doing its own thing.

This book had vivid world building, beautiful descriptions of the clothing and special events, unicorns, and raw emotions. There were multiple times I refused to put the book down until I finished the scene or chapter I was in! I fell in love with the female lead and a certain male protector we find has always been there and highly recommend giving this book a chance if you enjoy strong female leads, monsters, detailed caste systems, breaking of curses, unicorns, or even just commentary on gods and social constructs!
Admittedly, the only reason this was not a 5 Star Read, there were multiple small text and grammar mistakes throughout the novel - while not overly distracting to me I know it can be for others so I am simply being transparent for those readers.
