Green Warden Codex #3

Bark Worse Than Its Bite

Rate this book
There’s a fine line between protector and prey… I may have just crossed it.

I thought stopping the spread of Dunmere’s curse would calm things down. Wrong. The woods are still dying, and now I might be too.

Whoever is behind the supernatural curse has stepped up their game, draining the forest of its power. The animals are sick, the magic has turned feral, and someone is leaving ritual sacrifices way too close to my cabin.

They’ve declared war on Dunmere, and as the enchanted forest’s chosen champion, I’m the one standing in their way.
The rule of the magical turf war is simpleOnly one Warden walks away.

Armed with science, sarcasm, and a pack of very protective werewolves, I’m running out of time to save not only the wild magic pulsing through Dunmere… but possibly my heart.

Saving the woods once was luck.

Doing it twice might kill me.

Un - Flippin’ - Believable!!!!

From Auburn Tempest’s Author’s Notes: “And that’s the sign of a great storyteller. Dani, Callum, and the cast of characters from Dunbarrow are in my heart and mind,” which perfectly describes Ava’s writing. Rather than a (probably long-winded) attempt at the same, I figured I would just quote the master.

Although this is the self-same paragraph that “bothered” Auburn (I use that term lightly, by the way), it nonetheless bears repeating here. Because not only is Ava an incredible storyteller, her prose comes close to poetry and I had to share: “And as I went up on tiptoe to meet him halfway, and pressed my lips to his mouth, warm and sweet with something wild underneath, I felt the trees around us bend closer, as if to bear witness.”

WARNING: Do not read THIS book without reading the two which precede it. The story is intricate in and of itself, and intricately woven together, gathering a multitude of elements into a cohesive total. The three should be read as a single unit. If you’re reading this you at least need not wait for the next installment to come out.

Still, let’s all direct our mental energies to Dani and friends and encourage them to take up residence in Ava’s mind until she’s compelled to bring them back to us. Until then, ENJOY!

Ok, a 5 for the whole series and I don't do that often. it was extremely creative and intense. There were (for me) enough clues to determine who the actual "person" being attacked, the scary monster, and the villain were. However, the reason behind the attack was a surprise. It ended abruptly - it could have used at least 1 more chapter IMHO- but most of the boxes were checked. There is plenty of action - both physically and mentally - to keep you engaged. Enough twists and bits of humor to keep you interested. Enough emotion to keep you invested. A recommended read series. Don't treat this as a standalone book - the whole 3-book series is required.

Did not see that twist coming

But this isn't goodreads, so I can't mark it as a spoiler, so I won't say. But wow. The other plot points I saw coming. Not that I enjoyed them any less because of it, that's normal for me. But that villain... Yup, that made my head spin. Makes me want to go back and see if it ACTUALLY makes sense, if there are any little clues, or if it's the way TV shows go when the writers go on strike...

good

This was a good ending to this series. I love Danny and her circle of friends. The mystery of who was cursing the forest was a good one. I figured out who the culprit was before the end of the book, but it was still interesting to see how Danny figured it out. I will miss Danny and her friends.

Nonstop, action packed!

I normally don’t review books, but I couldn’t help myself on this one. I couldn’t stop reading these. I read book one and two in less than 24 hours because I couldn’t put them down. These are excellent reasons. Nonstop, action, packed, great romance, without being too blatant. Characters are awesome, believable, funny, just a truly great read!

Loved it

So good. Slightly unexpected ending. I really hope there's more adventures in store for Dani as warden. If you enjoyed the Urban Druid this is a must read.
