One rejected kiss. Two clashing personalities. And a snowstorm that traps them in an isolated cottage.
Callie Winter is the kind of person who holds everything together—for her family, her friends, her coworkers. But this Christmas, she’s hoping to catch her breath in the Scottish Highlands and maybe rediscover a little joy along the way. A kiss with a charming stranger in a pub? The perfect holiday distraction.
Until he rejects her.
Gavin Mackenzie doesn’t do flings, especially not with tourists who’ll be gone before the snow melts. He’s got enough on his plate—keeping the old family cottage running, managing the quiet that sometimes feels like loneliness, and pretending he’s just fine, thank you very much. The last thing he needs is a whirlwind American trying to kiss him in a pub… or move into his personal space.
But when a snowstorm leaves them stranded together, Callie’s forced to stay with the last man she wants to face. She’s prickly and wounded. He’s charming but distant. And neither of them are prepared for the slow burn that starts to crack their walls.
In between the cocoa and the Christmas tree, they’ll both have to face what they’re really afraid of: asking for what they need… and trusting someone else to give it.
A grumpy-sunshine, snowed-in holiday romance about messy feelings, unexpected healing, and the kind of love that doesn’t need fixing—just the courage to claim it.
This was such a soft, cozy, curl-up-with-a-blanket type of read. You really can’t go wrong with a cottage in the Highlands. I loved the setup of a rejected kiss from a handsome Scotsman at a pub leading into a snowed-in situation with the very same man! Gavin was such a gentle, levelheaded guy. I really liked the quiet slow burn of their romance. It was so steady, warm, and full of sweet little moments as they checked off items on Callie’s Scotland bucket list. And their communication was truly A+.
I loved the Scottish dialect sprinkled throughout, too, and the setting was wonderful, from the tight-knit community to the festive touches. I also really enjoyed the deeper emotional conflict with Gavin’s complicated relationship with his parents. His childhood experiences and the way their selfishness carried into his adulthood genuinely broke my heart, and I liked that it wasn’t handled in a melodramatic way. It felt very realistic. Having Callie support him as he unpacked those feelings, and seeing him begin to set the boundaries he deserved, was so nice!
There was one storyline I would’ve loved to see explored a bit more deeply (the ex-girlfriend, for those who’ve read it), but really, it still worked for me to leave it where it did. And again with the great communication! The ending for Callie and Gavin was so appreciated, especially given their circumstances and the distance involved. Really enjoyed this one!
This story was so fun and cozy, yet also packed with a lot of depth, too!
I loved the tension that existed between Gavin and Callie right from their awkward meet cute. Watching them become friends and confidants with each other before eventually growing to care for each other was perfect. They were able to trust each other in ways that they hadn't trusted anyone else, discussing their biggest disappointments and heartaches, too.
And Gavin working to help Callie fulfill her Scottish bucket list was particularly delightful! From the kiss to the kilt...absolutely wonderful!
Gavin had dealt with a lot in his life and had not been treated well by certain people who should have loved and cared for him. It impacted him greatly and I appreciated the way Callie helped him to see ways that he needed to move forward.
This story was delightful from start to finish!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Kasey Stockton has delivered Christmas romance GOLD! I loved this story with the coziest Scottish setting, the friendliest community of interesting neighbors, and the dreamiest handsome Scotsman.
Gavin was the absolute sweetest and I love how he serves Callie and everyone in his neighborhood. Learning how they cared for and show up for each other was inspiring and heart warming. The dynamic with his parents was so well done, even if it put knots in my gut in Gavin’s behalf. Kasey Stockton really writes a story that makes you FEEL.
I loved seeing Callie’s sister Luna and Rhys from Cotswolds Holiday, another favorite Christmas read. You’ll want to read both, but they each can be read as stand-alones.
This story is witty, romantic, and will get you feeling festive. This is the perfect story to squeeze in before Christmas, or even afterward with all the winter vibes.
It was so fun being back with the Winter family!! Luna & Rhys have my heart from Cotswolds Holiday and seeing them married with a little boy was darling. Also, Ruby & Hamish. 😍
Kasey nails writing swoony and hilarious banter alongside deeper themes. Gavin and Callie’s meet cute had me chuckling, and there was so much sweetness throughout the holiday. And don’t get me started on the found family in Gavin’s village when they take turns checking in on him. 🥹 But there’s heartache & healing, too, as Gavin’s parents are negligent and he had a messy breakup years ago that broke his heart. It’s a beautiful journey.
New faces, old friends, Scotland, kilt/wearing Scots, Christmas, and cute cows—you can’t go wrong with this one!
This was the perfect Christmas story. We have Scotland as a backdrop, a drop-dead gorgeous man named Gavin, and a sister who might have manipulated her sister into the situation with Gavin, but in the end, Callie will thank her sister for bringing them together. I started out reading Kasey Stockton's Regency novels, but I have stayed for her contemporary rom-coms, and I am a hard sell when it comes to rom-coms. This is highly recommended!
This sweet story begins with an awkward meet-cute, setting up a delightful forced proximity that brings two beautifully imperfect people together. It's a warm and touching Christmas tale about healing and love, with a special charm thanks to that irresistible Scottish accent. From the Scottish vocabulary to his cooking skills, helping neighbors and friends, his Grandma, her vibrant energy, the adorable highland cows, and her support for his parents—there's so much to adore. Who wouldn’t be tempted by a trip to Scotland after reading this? It’s a book that makes you want to pack your bags! As always, the author handles complex topics like depression with kindness and respect, offering honest representation. I truly appreciated the mental health awareness, the normalization of therapy, and the heartfelt support from friends and neighbors. I loved t!
4.5 stars rounded up for Goodreads. Super cute read! I loved the romance and the banter. I docked a half star because the storyline with Gavin’s parents stressed me out. Otherwise this story was pretty much perfect!
Callie needs a good distraction while spending her holiday in Scotland, not a mortifying meet-cute. Everything seems to be going wrong, as weather keeps her family from meeting up with her. She’s stuck snowed in with Gavin- a very good looking Scot. A very good looking Scot who seems a little judgmental of her life choices.
As Gavin and Callie spend more and more time together, they naturally get to know each other better. Perhaps their first impressions of each other aren’t quite accurate. I loved how Callie and Gavin open up to each other about the troubles in their lives and help each other find peace and a way forward with some of the difficult situations they are both facing.
This book includes all the fun cozy holiday scenes, humor, and a depth of character which kept me hooked. The romance was beautiful and so fun to witness. I was so sad when it was over!
❄️Thank you @authorkaseystockton for the arc of this absolute gem
I have been struggling to pick up contemporary romances recently, but it took me less than a chapter to be captivated by this book.
It was everything I wanted in a holiday romance and more! Christmas vibes, beautiful setting, cozy feels, emotional depth, hilarious moments, and the swooniest romance.
Callie and Gavin had instant chemistry and their story gave me all the feels. I was an absolute puddle. I didn’t want to put it down, but I also didn’t want it to end. Please add this to your holiday TBR!
Some books make you believe in Christmas again—not because of the lights or the cocoa, but because of the quiet kind of hope that sneaks up on you.
That’s what 𝘏𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘏𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘥𝘢𝘺 by Kasey Stockton did for me.
One rejected kiss. One reluctant Scotsman. And one sunshine-hearted American who refuses to stop believing in warmth, even when the Highlands feel cold.
It’s comfort, charm, & courage all wrapped in tartan.

💋 The meet-not-so-cute. Peak awkwardness. Peak entertainment. 🐴 Gavin’s horses—Elephant & Piggie—stealing scenes like they know they’re adorable. 🧣 Crackling fires, Highland snow, & sweaters you can feel through the page. 🧠 The gentle, genuine mental-health rep—it’s real without ever feeling heavy. 📚 Callie’s children’s-book heart meets Gavin’s quiet-acts-of-service soul = pure serotonin. 🫶 Found family, grumpy/sunshine perfection, & a slow burn that’ll have you yelling “JUST. KISS. ALREADY.”

🎁 A gift that says more than words ever could. 🍳 A breakfast scene that proves feeding someone is a love language. 🏰 A bucket-list adventure that goes adorably sideways. 🧦 Knit socks + emotional honesty = perfection. ❄️ The snowstorm moment that made my heart combust.

💭 If “The Holiday” and “While You Were Sleeping” had a Scottish cousin with a PhD in feelings, this would be it. Stockton nails the humor, heart, & healing of two people discovering that vulnerability isn’t weakness—it’s connection.

Who’s up for a trip to Scotland? Because after reading this book, you’ll want to plan a trip, too!
This is the perfect book to get you in the Christmas spirit! It’s so good from the “not-so-meet-cute,” to the Scottish countryside, to getting snowed in, to the fun and quirky neighbors, to the Christmas traditions, to the time spent with family, to the Scottish bucket list, to a little bit of fake dating, to the falling in love… I loved it all!
Callie is off to Scotland for Christmas to spend time with her sister and her family and their parents! After an embarrassing start with Gavin, she is mortified to find out who he is and that he will be her host for the next little while! However, a little force proximity from being snowed in together quickly remedies that, and soon both of their hearts are softening more than they could ever imagine!
I loved these two so much! It was so fun to see them go from strangers, to friends, to even more! They were the perfect balance for each other and made the cutest couple! You do not want to miss this one this holiday season!
Favorite quotes:
“…there’s something about a Scottish accent that sets off a primal response deep in my gut, and scientifically, I can’t help wondering if that extends to Scottish lips.”
“I’m selective about whom I choose to kiss.” Selective. As in I don’t make the cut. That stings. He glances at me. “You should be, too.” “Oh?” I scoff lightly. Right now, I want to select him right out of this car and forget all about his sultry accent and mesmerizing eyes.”
“A hot-blooded, capable man who seems financially set and is still single for no reason? No way. There’s a reason he’s not married. He’s been hurt somehow. Perfectly healthy single men don’t turn down a perfectly good make out session in a back alley with you.”
I started struggling pretty quickly because our heroine is extremely immature. She tries to kiss the first attractive Scottish man she sees because he flirted with her for 10 minutes. And when he wasn’t interested, she got so offended and so ridiculous about it. But then things really started to fall apart for me when she injures herself because she bumps into a man who has stopped walking. And you’d think she’d been in a serious car accident with how he reacted and it was all just very dramatic. I’m seeing a trend in closed-door romances, where the characters are extremely immature and act like 20 or 30-something high school students. I hope this trend ends soon.
Definitely ended this one with a sigh of contentment! 😍 Such a beautiful story of found family and love and supporting those you love through difficult times but also healthy boundaries and valuing your feelings and mental health and then add in a slow burn romance with a modern day Scottish Highlander and can you even ask for more? I think not! @Kaseystocktonauthor knocked it out of the park with this one. I stayed up way past my bedtime because I just couldn’t get enough! I would definitely recommend it all the stars and all the swoony romance you can expect from her books! LOVED IT! If that’s what you need right now, pick this one up. It’s a soft romance filled with a beautiful setting in the Scottish highlands.
I loved the depression rep for Gavin. It was discussed well and was incredibly relatable and I loved the topic and way he expressed those emotions. Even more so, I loved how Callie allowed him those feelings without pity but with genuine support.
And I liked the journey with Gavin’s parents too. There was another intensely relatable situation here and without spoiling, it was something I can appreciate.
The romance takes a little bit to find the swoon but I think the second half did a great job. I loved all of the Christmas and holiday vibes and the close knit friendships that were present.
I was hooked from the very first line as I watched Callie stumble her way through a super meet-cute trying to answer that question.
Spending a holiday season in Scotland is the perfect time to check things off a bucket list and watching Callie morph from an elf to a grinch, chaotically spinning between the two, is comically entertaining. Gavin is an honorable and massive character and peeling back each and every layer, thick and thin, is such a delight. And the two of them together? A bumbling, staggering, riveting holiday mess.
🎄Snowed in 🎄Decorating, movies, and games 🎄Secrets and hurts, including injuries 🎄Twinkles of attraction 🎄All the fun, family, and food
“Does it get more Christmassy than the quintessential holiday movie in a stone cottage in the Highlands while we’re covered in snow?”
Kasey Stockton is a favorite, writing with humor and charm, mashed together in the most alluring and engaging way. I absolutely loved these characters and every single situation they found themselves in, even with all the messy emotions and healing. All the Christmas magic set in the Highlands stole my heart in this sweet story.
Content: mild romance

I only read clean romance, I really appreciate the way Kasey wrote this romance. There was communication, respect, and NO DRAMA/FIGHT/etc moment in the story.
I really appreciate this book this way, no drama, no fights, no miscommunication! There was dept in this book as well and I found it handeld well!
Love the way they where together and how their relationship grow and Gavin could trust again!

nice clean romcom continuation of story about Luna and Rhys in England. this one is about Cali (lunas sister) and a scottsman that is a children’s author and deals with problems from his childhood. he is a friend of Rhys it all works out
Oh my GOSH!!! This is a must read for your Holiday romances. It was AMAZING!!!! I swooned so hard, and fell in love with Scotland!!!!! Do not miss this!!!
I really liked this one! I'm always a sucker for Scottish romcoms, but I also really liked the characters and their complexity, and the found-family aspect of the novel.
There were too many characters and the ending was so abrupt? It felt unfinished and unedited. One star for the setting and one star for Gavin. That’s it.
