He's a ghost, back from the dead, and determined to claw back everything that should have been his—including me.

When I return home to my family’s ranch as a freshly divorced single mom, I expect all the usual challenges. I’m ready for the furious teenager and steeled for the small town gossip mill.
I’m even prepared to be back in the thick of Stockton drama. The kind that has me helping my brothers patch bullet wounds and rebuild fire-ravaged family businesses.

What I’m not prepared for is seeing my brother’s best friend, the man who broke my heart years ago, back from the dead, and standing in the family kitchen laughing with my daughter.
Our daughter. Not that he would know.

He’s nothing like I remember. The soft-spoken ranch hand my father took in like his own is a hardened cowboy, every bit as dangerous as my brothers and twice as charming. My traitorous heart even threatens to thaw when I see him standing at the end of the aisle, hat in hand, wearing a heart-stopping grin.

Unfortunately for him, I’m only walking down it to secure a legacy my family desperately needs. Because once my heart is broken, I never forget.
Any path to forgiveness would involve him crawling on his knees over broken glass. A challenge he apparently sees as a silver lining.

But my secret isn’t the only one we uncover while we’re digging up the past, and the threat that follows has us racing against time and facing impossible odds.

Odds he’s determined to beat, come hell or high water.

Maggie "I don't know your middle name" Rawdon, we need to have a talk because what did you put into this one and why is his name Bishop Bradford? I'm so head over heels in love with this man. He is literal fictional perfection and you are going to have a hard time topping this man for me. Because what do you mean this man has had a ring for her for FIFTEEN YEARS! What do you mean, this man has been yearning for her for FIFTEEN YEARS! What do you mean this man has a child with the one that got away? You truly saved the best for last because holy crap.

High Water is truly the best way to end a truly incredible series. This series has quickly become one of my favorites and one that I recommend to anyone and everyone. And now that it's over, I truly don't know what to do with myself. But with that being said, just like the other books in this series, this book will live rent fucking free until the end of time. Like there are so many scenes that have my jaw on the floor. I'm fully sat. Bound and gagged on the floor. And if you wanna know what scenes those, read the book and find out for yourself, and trust me you will know what scenes those are.

As for Bishop and Aspen, I loved these two so much! Hands down, without a question, this is my favorite couple from Maggie. Bishop has also claimed my favorite MMC and Aspen is my favorite FMC to date from Maggie. I just loved these two with every fiber of my being. Bishop needs to be protected at all costs because that man is literally perfect. And Aspen? Listen, she is in fact a Stockton and she acts accordingly. Her personality was top tier. Is she a little mean? Yeah of course but Bishop gobbled it up and asked for more. The role reversal with this one was on a whole other level and it worked perfectly. Like seeing Aspen be in control with the reverse power dynamic just worked.

Five star banger. No notes. This one ate. Going down as a top read for me in 2026, mark my words! Maggie, thank you for a wonderful ending to one of my favorite series!

You should read this book if you like:
- Dark Western Romance
- Small Town Romance
- Second Chance Romance
- Secret Baby
- Marriage of Convenience

*I would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to Maggie Rawdon for allowing me the absolute pleasure to read High Water as an arc in exchange for my honest thoughts, opinions and review.

Holy smokes these two had me on the edge of my seat, begging for more, and swooning so hard. I loved them. I’ll miss this crew so much but wow! What an ending ! FULL RTC

————————————

I’ve waited! And waited! And WAITED! For Aspens story! We love the single mom, archaeologist, Stockton sister! Yes we do! And it’s finally time to dive in to her life and her relationship with her sweetheart Bishop.

While I had some idea what to expect from this book I definitely got more than I could have asked for. These two brought the sweet, the swoon, and the SPICE! Holy smokes, buckle up because the spice is out of this world. I think I highlighted entire pages at one point 😌

Bishop is back in town. He’s been gone for 15 years and it’s safe to say he’s missed out on a lot. Pair that with a newly divorced Aspen who is back in her hometown with her teenage daughter, and well.. Bishop is determined to say put this time. His family needs him. And he intends to show them he can be the man they need.

These two have a lot of back and forth attraction. Although Aspen vows to stay away for good and not complicate things further, she can’t help but be drawn to Bishop. He looks better than ever. He’s completely willing to play by her rules, until lines get blurred and then it’s hard to remember why they can’t be together.

I would say this is a bit of a slow burn, but you’ll understand why when you read. It makes sense for them and their story even though I was absolutely DYING for them to bang already 😂

Overall, I loved them. Will love them. And would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who likes a little Marriage Of Convenience or Secret Baby / Second Chance with their romance. I would say reading these books in order is probably best as the plot relies heavily on past books.. but if you’re just looking for some scorching hot spice? This is the book for you.

They made me laugh, made me cry, and they’re probably my favourite of the entire series. And getting to see the gang back together again? Well that was just a bonus. Their HEA is beautiful, and it ended exactly the way it should have (imo)

I absolutely loved Aspen, she is a total firecracker and not someone you want to mess with. Bishop gives off golden retriever energy, but he definitely knows how to switch it up when it counts.

The second chance romance in this one just hit. Their history, the tension, and the way everything unfolds made their story so satisfying. There were so many secrets woven throughout that had me hooked, and when everything started coming to light it honestly made my heart swoon.

The suspense was perfectly balanced with the romance, keeping me engaged the entire time. And getting to see the brothers again just made it even better.

I love a second chance romance with allllllllll the yearning. And Bishop was one of my favorite MMC’s that has ever yearned. Bishop and Aspen were written in the stars and Maggie Rawdon delivered in this last book of the Stockton clan.

Aspen is newly divorced and has moved back to her family ranch in Colorado. What she wasn’t expecting was to come face to face with a man she thought had died a long time ago. Bishop is back to his hometown to help the Stockton’s and sees Aspen for the first time in over 15 years… and nothing is stopping this man from getting her to fall for him again.

Aspen was all Stockton in this book. You could tell who her brothers were because she was just a fierce as them. I just loved that she showed every side to Bishop, thinking he wouldn’t want her anymore and he just took everything in stride. This man was bound and determined to she Aspen he was in it for the long haul. The patience this man had was everything in this book. Flirty dancing Bishop was probably one of my favorites in this book.

Bishop was the definition in this book of if he wanted to he would. He would do anything for Aspen and Fallon in this book. The speeches this man made, utter perfection. The fact that he meant them, just give up already Aspen, that’s all I kept thinking. There were tender moments in this that I wasn’t expecting, especially with not only Aspen but Fallon too. He just wanted to be apart of his family.

This book is about two people reconnecting after so many years apart, having shared the most beautiful thing in the world and figuring out how to move on from the hurt and getting to know the people they are now.

I’m sad to see this series end but so happy with the way it did. It was such a good series that I will be thinking about for a long time.

Thank you to Maggie Rawdon for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I was so excited to finally get Aspen's story especially after the breadcrumbs we got in West Bound. While I am sad this is the last book in The Quiet Horsemen series, I feel like Aspen and Bishop's story was the perfect was to end it. Although, I have some theories about potential spin offs or interconnected series maybe?

Anyways, when I read the tropes for High Water, I knew I would eat this up. Second chance is one of my favorite tropes. You could FEEL the tension and unresolved feelings between Aspen and Bishop literally the moment they saw each other again. Throw in a secret baby/single mom and I am SOLD.

Aspen is so strong and independent. She is headstrong, firm in her boundaries and won't let a man walk all over her. It's safe to say I appreciated those aspects and really liked her. I would expect nothing less from a Stockton FMC. She really knew how to hold her own.

Bishop is the full package. This man was so devoted to Aspen and down bad for her in the best way. He was dominate when needed but also willing to take direction too if you know what I mean. He was mature, determined in his persistence for Aspen and emotionally intelligent. Like hello?! That is a man right there. He knows how to take care of his woman both in the bedroom and outside of it.

Aspen and Bishop together were electric. I knew they wouldn't be able to keep their hands off each other for long. The chemistry was intense and it felt so right. I loved the depth to their connection and the way Bishop worshipped Aspen exactly how she needed and deserved.

High Water was a great read and kept me fully engaged. The romance was a slowish burn that hit so good once it finally did. The plot only got more intense as the book progressed and I loved getting to see the Stockton brothers play a part in it as well as their partners. Overall, a great sense of found family, second chance romance and suspenseful plot.

I'm excited to see what is next for Maggie.

Thank you Maggie for the ARC.

I was already excited about this book just knowing it was going to be about Aspen and Bishop, after the kitchen scene in West Bound. But when the tropes were announced it became my most anticipated read. Luckily I got to read it as an ARC.
Marriage of convenience and second chance are my favorites and adding in the suspense and the conclusion of this series I knew I would love it. But love is not the right word to describe how I feel about this book. It was truly everything. I cried, laughed and melted into a puddle. Even though Levi is my favorite Stockton, Bishop is now book husband nr 1.

This man is pure fictional perfection. He loves and protects fiercely, his devotion and the things he does for love… mop me up because this man melted me into a puddle multiple times.
Aspen is just as fierce as her brothers and I got a little girl crush. She is protective and would do anything for the people she loves, even marry the man that broke her heart 15 years ago.

Their communication and bond is amazing. Bishop is devoted and willing to be vulnerable and even though Aspen is stubborn as hell their communication and bond is impeccable. They don’t drag stuff out, they are just honest with each other and I loved that about them.

Besides falling for Bishop and Aspen a special mention goes out to Levi. He cemented himself as my favorite Stockton brother. How he treats Bishop like one of their own had me crying and the way he is supportive of his sister. This man is in love and loves sharing the love.
But that is what the Stocktons do. They have an amazing bond and are there for each other and the people they welcomed into their family like Bishop and Charlotte and her men and I will miss all of them. This series is amazing and Maggie gave it the perfect ending.

What To Expect:
Dark Western
Marriage of Convenience
Secret Baby
Second Chance
Cowboy X Archaeologist

The final chapter of the Quiet Horsemen is here, and I was ready from the first page. Well, actually I was ready in West Bound when the hint of what was coming was dropped in the kitchen when Aspen and Bishop see each other again after 15 years.

Aspen, the only sister is here and ready for her HEA. She is newly divorced and back home to help her brothers solve the mystery that is threatening their ranch and livelihoods. What she was not prepared for was Bishop's sudden reappearance. You see, this means that her teenage daughter will now meet her biological father after all these years. Fallon is not a fan of this development, but Bishop is determined to be their for his family and show them how he intends to stay forever this time.

Aspen and Bishop have so much baggage to unpack. Their story was unresolved for so long so these old wounds are now being broke back open. I loved how open and willing Bishop was to do whatever he needs to show Aspen and Fallon he is serious. He is even willing to play by any rule that Aspen sets forth. But as the lines start to blur, their emotions become more involved and it is harder for Aspen especially to remember why they cannot stay together.

Aspen and Bishop are fire together. Their slow burn tension was fantastic and I could not get enough. The moments between Fallon and Bishop were also sweet and I loved how he connected with his daughter through horses and the ranch.

That being said, some who do not necessarily like the secret baby trope might struggle with this book. While I had questions and did not understand why the characters made certain decisions, those specifics did not take away from my enjoyment of the book overall. The conclusion of the plot had me glued to the pages as I wanted to know what happened and how the family would survive.

Thank you so much to Maggie and her team for an early copy of High Water!

✨ARC Read✨

♾️ obsessed! I absolutely devoured this book and the only thing I didn’t like was this it had to end 😭 Gosh I was not prepared for how much I would love Bishop and Aspen. These two were each other’s first love and after years apart and so many secrets, they are forced back together.

For all the things that is Bishop, it was his steadfast love that had me melting page after page. But to be honest, as much a I adored Bishop, it was Aspen in all her feisty Stockton glory who really stole the show in this book. I just loved her character. Strong, independent, smart and capable, but a woman with so many beautiful layers to get to her heart. So relatable and such a force.

Together, these two were magic. The banter, the sweet moments of shared memories, the longing and by god the slow burn with all the tension 😮‍💨🔥 these two had me sweatttting!!!

The story line continues in the Stockton family mystery and we get an explosive conclusion to this fantastic series. Maggie did such a great job balancing the mystery, the heat, the laughs, even some emotional points, plus we got to see our favorite characters from previous books.

I just cannot tell you how much I love this series and most definitely this book. I truly didn’t want it to end 🥹

Huge thanks to author Maggie Rawdon for this early read 🫶🏻 I loved every moment of it.

Umm holy moly this was amazing!!!
I'm not sure where to begin, yes to everything in this book. I think this is my new obsession.

Ex mercenary turn swoon worthy cowboy who will do anything for his sharp as a whip baby mama archaelogist.

While they may have a daughter together, Aspen doesn't let Bishop back in too easily or quickly after he disappear for 15 years. She has protective mama bear vibes that you do not want to cross but Bishop doesn't seem to mind a few scratches to win Aspen back. The tension, banter, sweet moments, slow burn, everything between Bishop and Aspen was 🔥🥵... this is a deliciously S-P-I-C-Y world.

And then the relationship with Fallon, she's just as protective of her mama and doesn't want to see her get hurt. But by the end Bishop has also won over his daughter and their relationship by the end might leave you felling a little misty eyed.

I loved the added element of solving the Stockton family mystery, it was a fantastic ending to a series. I cannot wait to see what Maggie does next.

Thank you Maggie Rawdon and Smuthood for the copy to read for my honest opinion.

‘Aspen Stockton is about to be my wife, and I’m going to do everything in my power to make it permanent.’

The 4th and final instalment in this series and I’m so pleased we finally got Aspen’s story! Maggie gave us a hint in book 3 of what might be to come and I love how she set this one up. For me it was probably the least dark of the series and I enjoyed that it was a bit lighter…. for the most part.

Bishop hasn’t been seen for 15 years and was presumed dead, but now he’s back and determined to win back Aspen’s heart, as well as getting to know the daughter he just discovered exists. When his grandmother stipulates he needs to be married with a family to inherit her ranch, Bishop and Aspen’s brothers come up with a plan, but will she be willing to go along with it?

I loved Aspen- she is such a strong woman who melts for Bishop. I’d have liked to see more of Bishop and Fallon building their relationship especially earlier on in the story. It was great to get an epilogue set a little further in the future and I feel there were a few tiny hints about possible future series too so am excited to see where Maggie takes us next!

Thank you to Maggie and her team for this ARC.

Okay can I just say that I am OBSESSED with Aspen & Bishop! I knew that I’d probably devour this book, and that is exactly what happened. I love how strong and fierce Aspen is - a true Stockton and I loved it so much. She’s not going to put up with any BS and I’m so here for that kind of energy. There is so much yearning and Bishop is down so bad. This man would literally do anything for Aspen, absolutely anything and he is on a mission to win her heart over again. It might be a marriage of convenience, but this man knows that Aspen was meant to be his wife. The tension, chemistry, and spice = off the charts with how hot some of those scenes are! This book was perfect! I’m sad to see this series wrap up, but it’s one of my favorite dark western series!

Aspen Stockton finally gets her story! The push and pull between her and Bishop was so fun and will have you hotly anticipating when the tension will break. Bishop is the definition of “happy wife, happy life,” and he will do anything for Aspen now that she’s agreed to the marriage of convenience plan he cooked up with her brother. Throughout this entire series, the mystery surrounding the relics has been my favorite part, and that was true for this one as well (I think it’s the OG Da Vinci Code fan in me). I’ve loved my time in Purgatory Falls and can’t wait to see what Maggie has planned for us next!

I have waited forever for Aspen’s story and somehow it still gave me more than I was ready for. Aspen, our fierce single mom archaeologist Stockton sister, is back home after her divorce trying to rebuild her life when Bishop walks back into town after fifteen years and completely flips her world upside down. The man she loved, the man she thought was gone for good, is suddenly standing in front of her again and he is not leaving this time.

This is second chance romance at its absolute finest. The history, the longing, the unresolved tension that never really went away. These two shared something life changing years ago and now they are forced to confront everything they lost and everything they could still have. Add in a marriage of convenience, a secret child, and a family that pulls everyone in whether they like it or not, and I was fully emotionally compromised from start to finish.

Bishop is that man. The definition of if he wanted to he would. His love is steady, patient, and unwavering in a way that honestly melted me into a puddle. The way he shows up for Aspen and Fallon, the way he gives them space while proving over and over that he is there for the long haul, the things he says and actually means. I was sitting there like Aspen please stand down and accept this man immediately. And then he opens his mouth and yeah… filthy in the best way. The spice in this book is unreal. I am talking highlight the entire page levels of good.

Aspen absolutely stole the show for me though. She is pure Stockton through and through. Strong, stubborn, protective, and layered in a way that makes her feel so real. She carries so much hurt and still stands tall for the people she loves. Watching her slowly let Bishop back in while trying to protect her heart had me fully invested. Their dynamic is everything. The banter, the shared memories, the tension that builds and builds until you are practically begging them to just get on with it already.

The slow burn works because it has to. Their story demands it. Every moment feels earned and when they finally come together it hits that much harder. Their communication, their honesty, their willingness to be vulnerable without dragging things out made their relationship feel solid and deeply emotional.

And then there is Fallon. She completely stole the show. Watching her navigate her past and figure out who she is while also building something new with Bishop was such a powerful part of this story. The family aspect in this book is unmatched. The Stocktons show up for each other in a way that feels warm, chaotic, and real, and seeing everyone come together one last time was both comforting and a little heartbreaking.

On top of all the romance, the suspense element tied into the larger series arc kept me on edge the entire time and delivered an explosive, satisfying conclusion. Everything felt connected, everything came full circle, and it truly felt like the perfect ending to this world.

I laughed, I cried, I melted into a complete mess, and I did not want it to end. Aspen and Bishop might honestly be my favorite couple in the entire series. Their love story is messy, beautiful, and full of so much heart. This book is emotional, spicy, funny, and deeply satisfying all at once and I am not okay that it is over.

4.25!!

Maggie took the “a man who yearns is a man who earns” and popped out Bishop.

She truly said, make him grovel, painfully and beautifully to earn Aspen, and the readers hearts. Let me tell you, I’m a Ramsey girl, but Bishop threatened that number one spot from page one. At one point I was actually begging him to stop, because I couldn’t bear to see the bar raised that high. His longing, not only for Aspen, but for Fallon was the stuff of dreams. And his desire for Aspen in all her shapes and sizes was even better.

Aspen was a hard one for me tho, she had me on the first half and then lost me. She needed to protect her heart and her daughter, but at the same time, Bishop was doing everything right, and her hot and cold routine got old fast. I also wish we got to see her future more. Her with Charlotte and Zeph would have been an amazing addition to the HEA. I do have to say, she was the best mom ever. I truly have no words for how communicative and supportive she was of Fallon.

There’s truly no words to express how many feelings this book evoked. I was always ALWAYS hopeful, happy, giddy and even excited. Proud and grateful for these mature characters. But truly, there’s nothing but yearning, from me, for a love like this.

I do have to say that the relics plot never made much sense to me, for the sole reason that, a guy obsessed with relics? Really? But suspending those disbeliefs, this conclusion was intriguing and had me actually enjoying the chase and discovery.

Only thing that made me not give this a five star rating is truly a personal preference of not liking my MMCs passive. Bishop had the potential to be the dominant type of MMC I love but he conceded to all of Aspen’s demands. And I, again, personally, dislike my FMCs dominant. I can see the appeal, and maybe once or twice I would be cool, but almost all the time? Not for me, and I was beyond sad about it too.

Quotes:

"I don't have a husband."
"Good."

"I'd rather have her mean than anyone else sweet."

All I want in the world is to see both of you happy and be responsible for some small part of it.

I’ve always loved you. Then. Now. Always. But the second I saw you again in that kitchen, I was falling in love with you all over again. I didn't deserve you back then. I wasn't ready, but I'm ready now. More than ready.

Aspen Stockton is about to be my wife, and I'm going to do everything in my power to make it permanent.

"So I'm going to fuck this sweet little cunt full. Because the way you can barely keep your hands off my cock now? It has me imagining how fucking insatiable a pregnant version of you must be. I bet you need it morning, noon, and night."

"Because I'm going to fuck you like I own every inch of this body until we're both sure I always have."

I'm so in love with this man, with our present and our future, that I can't remember a time I ever wasn't. Because he's mine, and I'm his.

💍 Marriage of convenience

5 ⭐ |3 🌶️

Aspen and Bishop met because he was her brother Levi’s best friend. After Aspen found him injured and helped him, her father took him in to escape his abusive home. He began working on their ranch, and it wasn't long before they started a relationship. Though it eventually ended when she left for college, they spent one final, passionate night together during a Christmas break. However, Bishop disappeared the next day, and for years, everyone believed he was dead.

Now, Bishop is back and working for Aspen’s brothers. The moment he sees Aspen’s daughter, Fallon, he knows she is his. Things get complicated as they search for a family relic Bishop has hidden on his family’s ranch, which he currently can't access. To secure a ranch inheritance that requires the heir to have a family, Aspen's brother Levi suggests the ultimate solution: Bishop and Aspen need to get married.

Of course, this wasn’t something Aspen would easily agree to, but she did it to help her family. Even though Aspen is recently divorced and wasn't looking to remarry, her old feelings for Bishop quickly began to resurface. The tension between them was impossible to hide—the banter and chemistry were absolutely intense. They are perfect for each other. Aspen is a total badass, and I loved how she craved control and he was more than willing to give it to her.

Their 15-year-old daughter, Fallon, wasn't happy about the arrangement at first. She resisted getting to know her biological father since she already had a dad. She was cruel with her words initially, but Bishop understood her and never gave up. He did everything he could to be present, even giving up his life as a mercenary to be there for them.

I loved that Bishop called Aspen “Jones,” a nod to her love for movies and archaeology. He also calls her "honey," which is a nickname I adore. Bishop was amazing and truly all-in. The way he asked her to marry him and the story behind the ring? Heart-melting. He even took care of her when she was sick and alone; he truly would do anything for Aspen and Fallon.

Let’s talk about the spice! Since Aspen loves control, it was so hot to see her make him work for it. But when she finally let him take the lead? The things this man said and did... HOT! And that swing scene? I was sweating!

I also loved the relic plot and seeing previous couples like Ramsey & Hazel, Grant & Dakota, and Levi & Zephyrine again. The friendship between Levi and Bishop was another highlight. I loved how Levi was always there for him.

Watching their fake marriage shift into something real and seeing Bishop and Fallon’s relationship evolve was so moving. This book was the perfect ending to the series. I’m sad it’s over, but I can't wait to see what Maggie has for us next!

Thank you to Maggie and her team for the ARC and for the opportunity to be part of this team. I am forever grateful!

Wow! Just wow!!! High Water by Maggie Rawdon has been one of my most anticipated reads for 2026, and I must say, it did not disappoint at all! Reading about the MMCS (Aspen and Bishop) in the previous three books in the series made me very excited to finally read their book!

Rawdon compiles a few of my personal favorite tropes (strong fmc, second chance, marriage of convenience, etc) without overwhelming the plot! Everything came together so cohesively, and I would say that I really enjoyed reading the sweet moments Aspen and Bishop shared from the past and the present. They both grew so much as characters, and it was endearing to see their relationship with their daughter Fallon. And let's talk about Fallon-- she was just like her mom in the sense of her independence and strength. She really made Bishop work for it, and proved endless loyalty to Aspen! But their final father-daughter relationship was just so sweet to see develop.

High Water (and the rest of the series) also does a terrific job of mixing in a REAL plot with the romance. (This book can be read as a standalone, but I would recommend reading it in order as the "mystery" element has some continuity.) Without giving away the plot, I would say seeing all of the characters work together was another highlight of the book and definitely kept me on my toes reading until 3 am at night!

A reason why I absolutely love reading interconnected standalone series is that I can see bits and pieces of my favorite couples from the past. The family connection between the Stocktons is the best, and each member (Ramsey, Grant, Levi, Aspen) is special in their own way. Aspen has been through a lot and learned to be a very strong woman, and Bishop both embraces and challenges that side of her. Aspen is just as just as tough (if not more...) than her brothers, and it was so amazing seeing her always stand up and be there for those she cares of most. (I want to be just like Aspen when I grow up!!! haha).

Rating: 5/5!!!!

Tropes:
- Second chance
- Sercret baby
- Marriage of convenience
- Strong fmc
- Possessive mmc
- Brother's best friend
- Dark western
- Cowboy x archeologist
- Drama/mystery

Spice level: 4/5

Final ranking of series:
- Bull Rush
- High Water
- Dark Horse
- West Bound

I can't wait to see what Maggie Rawdon writes next as she has quickly become one of my favorite authors to read! And thank you again to the Smuthood for the arc!

This series is truly underrated and after 4 books, it still has me on the edge of my seat. This by far I feel is the sweetest and most "wholesome" of them.

We meet the last Stockton sibling, Aspen - a recently divorced mom who finally is back with her family in the ranch she grew up in. The ranch where he met her love of her life, Bishop back in the day. Due to some crazy situation with Aspen's dad, Bishop opted to leave her and disappear where people presumed he was dead. Now if you've read Westbound, you'll know he came back and rescued Levi. Now both Bishop and Aspen are back and the feelings truly never went away. It's just more complicated now because Aspen's daughter Fallon is actually Bishop's and he didnt know until now that they've reunited. They also had to get married conveniently to inherit a land that will be very important for their search of the relics and to finally put to rest this whole mystery and threat they've been dealing with since Bull Rush (Book 1). Now he got a second chance to be with Aspen and also be a dad to Fallon, Bishop doesnt waste anytime. They fall in love again and the rest they say is history.

I truly love how compared to the other books, this one read and felt chill and easy. There are big stakes of course - the relic search, the governor and his sons, some good ol' kidnapping. But overall, the romance and story felt relaxed. Even the spice I think is tamer compared to the others. I love how Bishop will do everything and anything for Aspen and Fallon. His love language is acts of service and boy does he have a dirty mouth too. Aspen is an awesome FMC. She is the female equivalent of her brothers combined. She's sassy, independent with a touch of vulnerability and realness. Their banter and the tension between the leads was scorching. To me, again comparing to the other books in the series, it felt like this one was a slow burn but so totally worth it when the tension snapped. It was amazing to see Bishop's journey to getting a family. All the "my wife" moments were awesome. Love the grandma and her sharp shooting ways in meddling.

Love seeing all the previous couple but feel like the ending was a bit rushed. I think this is the last book in the series but it doesnt read like it is. I would have loved a bonus epilogue about the other couples or Fallon grown up and maybe see how Bishop as a dad to her some more. Maybe the final copy will have an extra epilogue so we'll see.

Other than that, I enjoyed this book so much. It's a series I never thought I would love but here we are 4 books after and I still devour every single page.

Thank you to the Smuthood and Maggie for the eARC!

✨WELCOME BACK TO BULL RUSH RANCH✨

HOLY. SMOKES. Maggie. Ma’am. You absolutely saved the best for last because good gawd. End of a series? Maggie said “hold my beer!” I don’t even have the words to express how absolutely ahhhmazing these two are. Pure gold babbyyy! I was on the edge of my seat, i swooned so dang hard and I am so so sad to leave the family at the ranch but dear god I’d reread this entire series over and over again! 🫶🏼

Who knew that Aspen would be my favorite FMC of this series. I mean we all know i love a second chance, but a second chance where Bishop held on to a god damn ring for FIFTEEN YEARS. Good. Lord. Someone get a mop because I’m a whole ass puddle. 🫠 Throw in the fact that she had a secret baby!?! I’m DONE. On the floor. Done. Oh and did i mention he calls her Honey 🫠 i absolutely loved that nickname for her!

Aspen Stockton. This girl. I’m quite literally obsessed. She fell for her brother’s best friend just for him to up and disappear..well now he’s back to help her brothers and the ranch, what could go wrong. Aspen is literally one of the strongest FMC’s I’ve read in a long time. I loved watching her stand tall and make Bishop grovel for disappearing. She gave him such a hard time but i loved watching her break down her walls to forgive and love him again.

Bishop Bradford. I have loved Bishop from the moment he came on page in Levi’s book. LOVED HIM. (I mean i am biased since he saved my favorite Stockton) But really. Honestly. This man has been in love and pinning for our girl for FIFTEEN YEARS. Has had a ring for fifteen years!! I mean tell me there is a better second chance coming for this man. Watching Bishop do every single thing in his power to prove how much he still loves Aspen was literally my favorite part. And watching him become as whole ass dad was oh so dang precious.

And let’s take a whole ass moment for THE QUEEN OF SPICE herself! Miss. Maggie. Good. Lord. Someone get the fan and a cup of iced coffee. This one was a bit of a slow burn but it was needed for these two but the moment the tension breaks..Maggie brought all the dang spice with this one! I will say..a porch swing!?! A dang porch swing Maggie!?! 🥵🥵

I’m so sad to leave the Stocktons at the ranch but I’m oh so dang happy to see them all with their happily ever afters! I love this entire family with my whole dang heart.

I received this as an ARC, and knowing I’ve received this whole series as ARCs and now own multiple copies…blessed. Aspen and Bishop … honestly, there is nothing Maggie Rawdon could write that I wouldn’t read.

If you’ve read the previous books in the Purgatory Falls series, you’ve already caught small glimpses of Aspen—and you know she’s in trouble long before we ever get her full story. When we finally meet her, she’s divorced, guarded, and carrying more than she lets on.

But what really got me? Seeing her as a teenager—when a poor boy shows up at the ranch and somehow already knows her name. That small moment? It sticks. Because of course… that boy is Bishop. And from that point on, he becomes this almost-constant presence in the Stockton family. Not by blood, but by something just as strong.

Bishop didn’t have an easy childhood—and that’s clear right away. So the lengths he goes to in order to prove to Aspen that he’s there for her, no matter what? It’s honestly otherworldly. He shows up for her in ways that feel unwavering and absolute.

Aspen, for all her fire, attitude, and independence, knows in her heart that Bishop would never intentionally hurt her. The only time she truly pushes back is when he tells Levi something before telling her—and honestly? Valid.

And then there’s Fallon.

Fallon completely stole the show for me. Watching her piece together her past, while still standing firm in who she is, was incredibly powerful. She’s strong, resilient, and grounded in what matters—especially when it comes to who she considers her real father. That hit hard, and it felt very real.

One of my favorite parts of this book (and the series as a whole) is the dynamic between the women. Aspen’s relationships with her soon-to-be sisters-in-law are everything. There’s humor, honesty, and that safe space where they can talk about the things the men do that drive them absolutely insane. Aspen acts as this bridge between the couples—she understands both sides, and that balance just works.

And let’s not ignore Bishop’s mouth … because WOW, also tattoos. The man is filthy in the best way, and paired with Aspen’s dry, chaotic humor? I was laughing just as much as I was feeling everything else.

This book is spicy, emotional, funny, and heartfelt all at once. But more than anything, it feels like the perfect conclusion to the Purgatory Falls collection. Everything ties together in a way that just makes sense.

Absolute must-read.

Book 4 in the Quiet Horsemen Series

This was an angsty, steamy, tension filled, high stakes, emotionally charged journey. Raw. Emotional. Real. Bishop & Aspen will absolutely break you, in the most delicious of ways. They will shatter your heart into a million pieces before putting you back together... And even then, you'll still ache just a little. An absolute emotional rollercoaster that'll have you falling even more in love with these morally gray men and the women they call their own.

Misguided loyalties, guilt and protectiveness tore them apart once. Fate will bring them back together... A legacy will bind them forever.

Bishop Bradford. The Mercenary. The Cowboy. A 'ghost' resurrected from the past... Obsessively, possessively, unapologetically protective, this quietly dominant, sinfully delicious man will have you swooning every chance he gets just by being himself. Endearingly sweet and all shades of charming, he's determined to break down every wall Aspen has built around her battered heart and atone for sins of the past while building a future that their family can depend on.

Aspen Stockton. The Archeologist. The Professor. The 'Princess'. Newly divorced and back home with her 15 year old daughter, Fallon, this independently strong, fierce, feisty woman is looking to rebuild her life surrounded by those she loves most, no matter the cost. Yet coming face to face with the man she believed to be dead has thrown her into a chaotic tailspin as they both face down the painful memories of the past.

Their journey was not an easy one, but it was real and it was worth every bump and bruise along the way. And while it'll take a little time for reconnection, a whole lot of healing, forgiveness, strength, resilience and patience along the way to their forever, this slow sizzling burn is on a collision course towards combustion. With sweet, steamy tension and high heat chemistry that's off the charts hot, these two will have you craving more...

Mystery. Intrigue. Suspense. Greed. Bloodlust. Corruption. Deception. Betrayal. Vengeance. Redemption. LOVE beyond measure. We get it all in one dark, mysterious package. A collision course that you can't turn away from, with twists and turns that you won't see coming, take the journey. It's worth the reward!

Return to Purgatory Falls, Colorado. A small mountain town where the whiskey flows smooth and the sins and depravity run deep.

High Water by Maggie Rawdon rides in like the final storm on the horizon and leaves everything changed when the dust settles. This last installment in the Quiet Horsemen series feels like standing in the middle of a wide-open plain as thunder rolls in… tense, electric, and impossible to look away from.
Aspen is instantly compelling. She’s not just rebuilding her life after a divorce, she’s excavating it, layer by layer, like one of her archaeological digs. A brilliant, slightly battle-worn “female Indiana Jones” with a teenage daughter and a heart that’s been through the wringer, she’s equal parts grit and vulnerability. Watching her try to keep control while everything around her threatens to unravel adds a steady emotional pull to the story.
And then there’s Bishop… the man who was supposed to be gone, now very much alive and dangerously charming. A cowboy with history carved into his bones and regret riding shotgun, he doesn’t just stroll back into Aspen’s life, he crashes into it. Their connection simmers with a slow, aching intensity, the kind that builds and builds until it feels like it might snap under its own weight.
The story weaves together past and present like tangled barbed wire. Secrets don’t just come to light here, they claw their way out. Between the looming danger, buried truths, and the race against time, the stakes feel sharp and constant. And through it all, the emotional tension never lets up. The push and pull between Aspen and Bishop is laced with longing, frustration, and that addictive “touch her and die” edge.
Tropes like marriage of convenience, secret child, and second chance romance are all here, but they don’t feel recycled. They feel earned. Layered. Lived-in. Add in the dark western atmosphere and a slow-burn romance that practically hums under the surface, and you’ve got a story that’s as much about healing as it is about survival.
What really makes High Water hit is the sense of completion. After everything this series has put its characters through, seeing the pieces finally fall into place feels deeply satisfying. It’s messy, emotional, a little dangerous, and ultimately hopeful.
A wild western ride from start to finish… and this final chapter sticks the landing. 🤠

4.5⭐
I absolutely loved Aspen & Bishop. This book had me blushing throughout the entire read! I love a man who knows how to grovel & Bishop went to all lengths to make sure Aspen could learn to trust him again after all this time.

I love a good second chance romance. Throw in a marriage of convenience & “rules” to keep their hands off each other & it’s a damn good time. I was giggling & kicking my feet the whole time. These two have so much chemistry. I love a tipsy Aspen & how confident & bold she becomes with the man from her past. Bishop had me sweating 🥵🥵🥵 too. I love a man with a dirty mouth.
I was curious if I was going to love their story as much as the 3 brothers but of course Maggie nailed it. I love a strong & independent FMC & Aspen was exactly that. Bishop gave off golden retriever with a side of bad boy vibes & I was totally here for it! I don’t think I have ever highlighted as many quotes in a book as I did this one!

The romantic suspense storyline continues in this book from the prior 3 & kept me really engaged. Never once did I find myself bored with it. It was a great balance of plot & rekindling of their romance. The resolution was satisfying but does leave room for a spin off which I’d eat up if Maggie gives us that.

Thank you to Maggie Rawdon & The Smuthood for the opportunity to ARC read this fabulous book.

“I’d rather have her mean than anyone else sweet.”

“All I want in the world is to see both of you happy and be responsible for some small part of it.”

“I’ve always loved you. Then. Now. Always. But the second I saw you again in that kitchen, I was falling in love with you all over again.”

“You think you’re going to be able to go without sex for years?” “I don’t think it’s gonna take you that long to remember how much you like riding me, honey”

“And now, through some particular twist of fate, you’re stuck with me for the same reason we were torn apart. So I’m going to be on my knees proving to you I can be the man you need.”

"Because I'm going to fuck you like I own every inch of this body until we're both sure I always have."

“On your hands and knees on the bed. Crawl to me.”

“Good. Now do as you’re told, Jones. Fuck my face”

4.75 stars (only because Grant & Dakota still hold the title in this series)

eARC review

Back in her hometown, fresh off her recent divorce, the last thing Aspen expects in her family's kitchen is a ghost from her past. Bishop lost everything when he up and disappeared 15 years ago, and to get back everything he's ever loved, it's time to come clean. But will risking it all by finally sharing the secret he's held on to all this time, be enough to get back the life he lost? Can you really ever trust someone again after they've broken your heart?

While this was the least 'dark' out of the series, it was by far the most emotional. The dual timeline, getting to go back and fall for them as they fell for each other, was done so well. My heart broke from what they lost, and shattered from how broken they still are 15 years later. Aspen is such a badass mom, sister, and all around FMC. She is far from easy on Bishop, she has too much to lose now. But goodness, if there is a man that can handle her stubbornness, rules, and every possible wall she could throw up - it's Bishop Bradford. The way he handles her is down right perfection. If she isn't giving him shit, he just isn't happy.

Goood lord, Bishop - the man you are. This man knows exactly what, and who, he wants and nothing will stop him from showing  Aspen that he is the man for her. We are talking full-court press on proving himself worthy of a 2nd chance. This man did not give a single f!ck about anything other than loving her and he had me completely hooked.

*Ahem* the spice in this book was OUT OF THE FREAKING WORLD good. I mean, obviously Bishop is delicious but damn, Aspen, girl you are sexy AF. Mean and torturous in the best possible ways, but oooo so sexy. It's one of the things I absolutely love about Maggie's characters - yes the MMC's deliver, but the FMC's are all sexy, confident, take no shit powerhouses.  This entire series is a 1000% must read for anyone who likes their cowboys a little morally black and suspense wrapped in family secrets.

Tropes:
Dark Western/Small Town
2nd Chance
Then & Now timeline
Secret Child
Single mom
Marriage of Convenience
Brother's Best Friend
Ex-Military

I’m so so so sad this series is over. BUT this was a perfect ending to it.

Aspen and Bishop’s story was the perfect way to end the series. I LOVE a marriage of convenience and this worked so well. Secret baby usually isn't my vibe - but it worked since she was a teen and the story behind it made so much sense.

Let’s start with Bishop - he was such a golden retriever and my heart broke for him for a lot of the book. The choices he made when he was younger caused serious impact for him and those who loved him. I liked how Maggie wrote this character and the restraint that he had and the only thing he cared about was making sure Aspen and Fallon were happy. It was an interesting switch up because the other men in this serious were on the unhinged side - but Bishop was more tame. But he sure did have a mouth 🥵🔥.

Aspen - I’ve been wanting her story for awhile. I loved how she was portrayed as a newly single mother. She was written as a strong independent woman who loved her family and her daughter and still had her own goal and her own personality. I’m glad we didn’t get the whole Ethan coming back and fighting for her - which is what typically happens in books. I loved ther Aspen was in charge and in control of the relationship with Bishop - she was smart to protect herself and her daughter. I also love that she was the more "unhinged' of the two of them, and definitley stayed true to the other female characters in this series -of a women being comfortable in their own skin and with their sexuality. Though- she had zero chance not falling for Bishop again.

Fallon - she as written so well as a 15 year old who had to move away from what they knew and the dad she grew up with. I’m glad they had her soften to Bishop.

Now on to the story - this has a good mix of a romance and action. I like that Aspen and her skills had a lot to do with recovering th relics. There were some twists and turns here that I didn’t see coming - which I’ll leave off because of spoilers.

I’m so happy Aspen and Bishop got their happy ending .

Maggie always brings the spice and the hotness 🔥🥵.

I’m hoping we get a series of Hazel’s brothers or her friends.

‘High Water’ by Maggie Rawdon is a dark western romance novel, the 4th book in the Quiet Horsemen series. Thank you to Maggie and The Smuthood PR for the gifted ARC in exchange for my honest opinions.

This book can be described as:

🤠 Dark Western Romance
🖤 Small Town Romance
🤠 Romantic Suspense
🖤 Cowboy x Archaeologist
🤠 Marriage of Convenience
🖤 Brother's Best Friend
🤠 Secret Child
🖤 Second Chance

My honest opinions:

This was a great way to wrap up an incredibly great series that I enjoyed so much!!

This book was full of some of my favorite tropes, but I might also add in “black cat x golden retriever.” I am usually not a fan of this trope, however, this one was done so delicately that the FMC didn’t seem like a complete “mean girl” and the MMC shows so much more strength than how soft this type of character is usually written especially towards the end. I appreciate that the characters were unique to this trope and I enjoyed it so much more! I really liked the realistic conversations dealing with parenting their teenage daughter… it was very refreshing. Also worth noting, this was definitely more of a slow burn than the rest of the series, but once that chemistry started igniting… their connection was so HOT! I loved their banter, cheeky playfulness and the power balance switches in the spicy scenes. You never knew who was gonna be in charge 😉 3🌶️

The romantic suspense storyline was so great! I would recommend people reading these books in order and this one wrapped it up perfectly. It gave twist and turns, action and suspense, and I can tell the author did research to keep the story feeling accurate and realistic. I feel like I learned something along the way. I also liked the “second chance” plot line told in a way that was not dual timeline. It still referenced plenty of points from their past that were important to the relationship, which created great pacing throughout the story.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and the series as a whole! I will definitely be recommending it and looking forward to more books from this author! I give this book 4⭐️s.
