I often read poetry and enjoy it, but don’t feel a strong connection. A kind of “in one ear, out the other” situation. I cannot say the same for this collection. These poems hit home in a way that made me feel so seen, and heard, and supported. It’s as if Allie looked inside my mind and said “oh yes, me too. Let me write about it.”
These poems are not all universal experiences. Even I can’t entirely relate to some of them. But so many of them I could, and it was exactly what I needed in this moment. Something that expressed how I feel and helped lift me up. Life is hard. And it’s long and scary. But it’s also beautiful, and I think that was all captured so well in this.
Allie has such a way with words. Everything she writes is so genuine, and fearless, and honest. She did something really special with this poetry book and I want to thank her for her vulnerability. It’s a scary thing to put something like this out in the world, but it’s important. It’s going to be helpful to so many.
Allie, consider this a virtual hug to you. I see you, I understand you, and I love you. The world is a better place with you, and your writing, in it.
