This book is TRUTH, and this book is HOPE.
Can’t Break Me reads like sitting down with a close friend for a chat and having him confide in you about his life.
More than just one person’s true lived experience, though, this book is a testament that the American Dream is alive and offers hope to each of us that we, too, can achieve this dream. The book further provides a road map of the mindset, decisioning, and discipline needed to do so. For this reason, as a teacher, I strongly believe that Can’t Break Me should be read by every late middle schooler and early high schooler in the country. KAYR’s life story has the potential to inspire the members of the upcoming generation to achieve their potential – and mentor them on how to successfully self-actualize. KAYR also offers universal lessons to all of us, regardless of age, about unconditional love and meeting people where they are.
Can’t Break Me is moreover an important and rare piece of the American canon for its authentic depiction of the culture in impoverished areas of Philadelphia in the 1990s, a setting rarely documented, as so few individuals have emerged from it, reached the top echelon of society, and chosen to write about it. All-in-all, this book is a must read for anyone living in America or interested in learning about a slice of the American experience.
Does anyone else feel that this book is just waiting for someone to pick up the movie rights to become a blockbuster, or is that just me?

I picked up the book and could not put it down. KAYR’s story of beating the odds and coming back to lift his family and community is incredible. I appreciated how honest he was about those around him and how loving he was towards them at the same time. His story needs to be heard all around the world. This book is evidence that the right mindset, a relentless work ethic, and supportive adults around them, a child from any circumstance can achieve great things
