I've been looking for a book on restlessness for a very long time so I was extremely happy to find this one!
In Restless, Kristen Mosier puts words to that feeling we've all felt over the course of our lives. That feeling that says "things will get better when." That feeling that can even prompt us to blow up our lives and start over to fit the ideal in our head. What if the grass truly is greener on the other side? What if I'm missing out?
What I appreciated about this book is that Kristen answers these questions and more with a thoughtfulness and grace that can feel rare in our constantly "max" saturated world. This book truly felt like a therapy session. I am leaving it with questions to reflect on and small actions I can take to better my world and become more present to my life.
Some things I loved: I appreciated how each chapter focused on a different area of life (the romance and friendship section were my personal favorites) and I like that the book was heavily researched. I am leaving with tools and follow ups that I can use as I start my journey to become more mindful and grateful in my everyday life.
One thing I struggled with: there were moments where I felt like I was being given lots of tools and modalities without stories about how to actively apply them. I would have enjoyed reading more longer form stories about people successfully applying some of these skills as the few stories that were shared were absolutely memorable!
All in all, I'd say this book is for the restless self development obsessed folks like myself who have been searching for research around how to stay present, sit still, and commit to their lives the way they are now. If you are a fan of thought leaders like Brene Brown and Nedra Glover Tawwab, then I believe you will absolutely enjoy this book.
This was an extraordinary book in my opinion. The author made restlessness into an acceptable emotion and gave it a place in our lives. She showed us how to work with the feelings that arise in a “what if“ life in order to increase our awareness and gratitude within our present life. She provided so many tools, I put the book down to use some. She has backed up so many of her statements with diligent research and she has used her own life as a reference. This is really an amazing book!
"Restless" is the antidote for that "itch you can't scratch" feeling. It's a quick read, with tons of practical exercises, along with relatable anecdotes. I have my copy on the kitchen counter and instead of reaching for my phone to scroll when I feel restless... I now reach for "Restless." Highly recommend!
Every chapter resonated with me. It is a fast, informative, and helpful guide for anyone who ever thought "if only x, I'd be happier". It's relatable and a perfect balance of storytelling and clinical knowledge.
