I was surprised at how much this book resonated with me! If you’re living with an autoimmune disease, you’ll appreciate the trepidation Elizabeth Dorsey experiences in making space for Ryder Donovan. If you’ve ever questioned whether or not you’ve made the right career/life choice, this will have an added layer of connection for you.
Rachel Hauck took me to Hearts Bend, Tennessee, and introduced me to two broken people who chose not to let the past make them bitter and trusted that God was big enough to work in their lives despite them being riddled with mistakes.
I appreciated the inspirational messages, especially those about not ignoring my heart in pursuit of my head and those about not letting pride get in the way of my decisions. Most of all, I’ll remember this book for the encouragement not to let setbacks define me.
I’m looking forward to book two of this new series!
I was gifted this copy and was under no obligation to provide a review.
Elizabeth thought she had her whole future lined up...MBA school... no detours. But when she gets waitlisted, she ends up back in Hearts Bend for what she insists is a temporary stop. She’s frustrated about the delay… until she runs into Ryder, her childhood friend. Suddenly this “detour” starts getting complicated. Falling in love? Not part of the plan. Getting attached to Hearts Bend and even getting offered a job? Definitely not part of the plan. And helping defend Ryder when someone starts framing him? Yeah, she didn’t see that coming either. Watching him put himself on the line for the community brings back all those old feelings she tried to leave behind, and she’s determined not to let her life get thrown off course again...even if it means walking away from love.
Ryder has always cared about Elizabeth, and seeing her again gives him hope. But she’s even more driven than she used to be, and he’s torn between telling her how he feels and worrying he’ll scare her away. When she starts using her plans and health concerns to keep her distance, he’s left wondering what it really means.
This was such a sweet read, I finished it in one sitting. Elizabeth and Ryder’s childhood history makes their chemistry feel instant and natural. They respect and support each other so well, even when it means stepping back. And now I’m even more excited to see what’s next in Hearts Bend. I just love this little community.
This story, set in the sweet town of Hearts Bend, will give readers an escape to a small town where everyone knows each other, but also wants the best for each other.
Elizabeth was such a strong, focused and independent person, mainly due to her upbringing and overcoming illness. I loved all the scenes with her and her family. They were so supportive but also in a gentle way tried to push her to maybe think that her plans are just that, her own plans and not God’s plans.
Ryder was easy to like and his struggles to keep up with Elizabeth and be the best option for her felt real. The target on his back with the weird orders and invoices was also interesting to try to uncover. Ryder’s faith and strength added to his charm.
While everyone had given Elizabeth advice (I especially loved her mom’s input) and different options for her future, they allowed and trusted her to go her own way to find her way and purpose in life. Her faith was not so strong in the beginning of the story, but was a beautiful growth journey throughout the story.

It was a special treat to return to Hearts Bend, TN. Beth was a driven heroine, determined to get into the grad school of her dreams and working hard to pad up her resume until then. I admired her focus and dedication, though her hang up on her previous illness felt a bit overdone. Ryder was thoughtful, kind, and compassionate, even with his childhood wounds and relationship insecurities from a previous girlfriend. The rekindling of their friendship was quite lovely and their banter was fun and witty. I loved getting to know the Dorsey clan, from the grandparents down to the many many cousins. I hope to see more of them in the future books of this series. Rachel Hauck always adds a touch of the supernatural in her books and I enjoyed that little icing on the cake in this story.
If you enjoy small-town romance that is sweet and heart-warming, you will love this book. I received a complimentary copy courtesy of Sunrise Publishing and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.
Elizabeth Dorsey had a plan. High School. Bachelor of Science in Management Degree from MIT. MBA from Wharton. Job with a Fortune 100. Penthouse. Dream Car. Vacation in the South Pacific. That was the plan. There had been a medical interruption. A 2-year interruption. So, the timeline was already off track. With grit and determination, Elizabeth had gotten the plan back on track. She could do it again. But no one knows that another sidetrack is looming. And if it's permanent? Well, let's not answer that question. In the meantime, she's living with her grandparents in Hearts Bend, Tennessee, working in the financial office of family-owned Dorsey Furniture by day and moonlighting as Night Manager at Ella's Diner by night.
I loved this book. The characters' realistic life journeys show that not everything goes according to plan—not the carefully outlined plans, not even the best-laid plans, not the plans that lead to success. I loved the conversations in the relationships (grandparent/granddaughter, cousins, parent/daughter, boss/employee, friends). The contrasts between growing up in a city vs. a small town, surrounded by family and extended family vs. in a single-family household far from relatives. The reminders of being out in nature, taking us out of ourselves to see the land, the history, the vastness of our surroundings—and that sometimes there's something even more beautiful than sticking to the best-laid plans.
The color map of Hearts Bend at the beginning and the charming illustration opening each chapter—a strawberry milkshake complete with whipped cream, sprinkles, strawberry, and striped straw—add delightful visual touches to the story.
This was my first introduction to the author's writing, and now I can't wait to continue reading the series and explore more of her books.
Thank you Rachel Hauck, Sunrise Publishing, and LibraryThing, for the opportunity to read an eARC of this novel.
I could not put it down! I loved When I'm With you by Rachel Hauck. Elizabeth Dorsey has a plan and will stick to it no matter what. Her summer in Hearts Bend, Tennessee with her grandparents, extended family and her old friend Ryder Donovan won't change that. "Now he's all grown up, devastatingly handsome, and stirring feelings that threaten to derail everything Elizabeth thought she wanted." Fraud, fires, family, chemistry, and second chances in a delightful small town kept me reading way past my bedtime! A wonderful romance in a small town I'd love to live in!
I highly recommend When I'm With You.
Thank you to Sunrise Publishing for allowing me to read an early copy. All opinions are my own. And just for the record, I can't wait for the next story in this series! Loved the sneak peek into book 2 at the end of this story.
I loved returning to the small town of Hearts Bend where everyone knows your business.
Ryder Donovan, park ranger loved Hearts Bend so he recently came back home. And Elizabeth Dorsey spending the summer is there awaiting admission to Wharton. She has her life all planned out but working now at family owned Dorsey furniture and Ella’s diner. There’s also a mystery going on while these two become reacquainted.
I loved returning to this interesting town. Granny and the supporting characters added so much. Such a good story with some unexpected turns!
So glad they included the map of the town in the front of the book!
And of course Rachel always includes a bit of magic in each book (which I love)!!
Thank you to the author/publisher for allowing me to read the book. The opinions are entirely my own.
Return to Hearts Bend, Tennessee for a swoon-worthy small-town romance filled with second chances, faith, and the courage to choose love over certainty. Elizabeth and Ryder’s story is tender, emotional, and impossible to put down.
I thoroughly enjoyed this small town romance in Heart's Bend. Elizabeth and Ryder's love is full of second chances and heartstrings pulled. I loved their story alot, I read the first two books in the series previously before the title changes and I love Rachel's books. I stayed up way too late reading into the evening because I just couldn't put this down. Another 5 star read for 2026.
I enjoyed this story. It was filled with warmth and family and felt kind of cozy.
Elizabeth is driven. Having lived with a chronic illness that robbed her of two years of living, she’s determined to live to the full and chase her dreams.
But what if dreams change?
Ryder is a broken man in a multitude of ways. Back in Hearts Bend he takes on a large project that has great potential.
But what if someone throws a wrench in at the very beginning?
These two fascinating characters make up the bulk of the story, and I love them both. They are easy to connect with. (I have been living with a similar health condition and I appreciated that element in the story more than I can say.)
But it’s those in the background that drew me in and captured my heart. Rachel Hauck has created a small town world you’ll be reluctant to leave. I’m looking forward to more time in Hearts Bend for sure!
I received an advance copy from the publisher. I’m under no obligation and my review has not been solicited. Highly recommend!
I know I can always count on a heart stirring romance when this author's name is on the front cover. It is not a fluff piece. There is depth, drama and two people who are a little broken, which makes Elizabeth Dorsey and Ryder Donovan more realistic and likable.
Elizabeth is single-minded in her quest to be the best at her job. She has graduated from MIT and has her sights set on the Wharton MBA program. She has set a career path for herself, and nothing, including love, is going to sidetrack her. She is in a holding pattern working at her family's business in Hearts Bend, Tennessee. But this is just a stopover.
Ryder Donovan is a wildlife officer who loves his job. Weird things are going on at his job that threaten to ruin him. So, there is a little mystery worked into this romantic drama.
I understood Elizabeth's need for wanting to follow her dream, but it was obvious to everyone around her that her laser focus was giving her tunnel vision. She literally could not see the forest for the trees. Fighting a sickness that could activate in her body at any time did not help her situation, which definitely played into her decision making. For this, I felt true empathy, but at the same time I wanted to sit her down and make her realize she had everything she needed already right in front of her. She was allowing pride and fear to rule her life.
The chemistry between Ryder and Elizabeth is evident, even as Elizabeth is fighting the tide of what is meant to be because of her need to succeed and her fears due to her disease.
This poignant story will tug on your heart strings. The Dorsey family and the community of people in Hearts Bend make this a special place to live where everyone cares about others. Rachel Hauck is a rich storyteller who knows how to create characters you will love and places you will want to visit again and again.
Thank you to Sunrise Publishing for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
When I’m with You by Rachel Hauck is a sweet small town contemporary romance.
Twenty-five-year-old Elizabeth Dorsey is spending the summer in Hearts Bend, TN with her grandparents. She is independent and super focused on her future and does not plan to let anything (or anyone) change her mind. While waiting for her acceptance to a business school, Elizabeth is working at her family’s business and helping out a family friend in her café.
Park Ranger Ryder Donovan has returned to Hearts Bend from Colorado. While his childhood was lonely, the Dorsey family welcomed him into their fold. He loves his job, but his boss is convinced he is wasting the department’s money on high dollar items.
Elizabeth and Ryder are childhood friends but there is definitely a romantic spark between them. Elizabeth has legitimate reasons for not wanting a summer romance, but Ryder is pretty hard to resist. With her leave looming over them, will Elizabeth and Ryder take a chance on love?
When I’m with You is a wholesome romance with an underlying layer of faith. Elizabeth is a wonderful woman but she stubbornly clings to her lifelong career dreams. Ryder is charming and easy to like. Their romance is absolutely delightful but might end in heartache as Elizabeth determinedly clings to her plans. Heart Bend is a wonderful town where everyone knows you (and your business). Rachel Hauck brings this lovely romance to a heartfelt conclusion.
Rachel Hauck is an auto-read for me! Her books are always full of everything I love: faith, romance, humor, southern charm, a little bit of mystery, and a helpful heavenly guest who shows up right on time.
Coming back to her hometown of Hearts Bend, Tennessee, was never Elizabeth’s intention, but a hiccup in her carefully planned life opens opportunities she never imagined she’d want, including a career in her family business and falling in love with her childhood best friend Ryder.
Ryder and Elizabeth both have reasons not to stay in Hearts Bend, but God just might be showing them that’s right where they should be.
Here are a few of my favorite quotes:
“Spending more time with him meant feeling more. But hey, she was an adult woman capable of controlling her feelings. What’s wrong with being around a man who made her feel wanted and pretty, appreciated?”
“Mom,” Elizabeth said, her voice low. “One more thing. How do you know you’re falling in love?”
“If God wanted her to fall in love, then He’d have to step up and make it happen. Heal her or something. And Elizabeth didn’t have that kind of faith.”
*I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
Elizabeth is a driven young lady who wants to prove that she is capable of doing whatever she sets her mind to doing. After being sick for two years, she sees Hearts Bend where her extended family lives as a slight detour to her plans to attend grad school. But, what if the plan that she has isn’t what God had planned for her? Trusting that He has something even better takes a whole lot of faith when you can’t see your next step.

All of us can relate to Beth when change occurs. Moving forward into the unknown can be scary, but when WMA Officer Ryder Donovan steps back into Beth’s life, she has a sounding board and friend to help her with her next steps. I love the friends to more trope, and this was well written with just the pacing.
I recommend reading this book for its clean romance, a wonderful family, and its faith message. This is the first book in the Home to Hearts Bend series.
I received a copy of the book through JustRead Tours, but I was not obligated to write a positive review.
I was really excited to read my first book by author Rachel Hauck, When I’m with You, published by Sunrise Publishing. Let’s just say it won’t be my last book by Rachel; I really liked it and recommend it. Beth suffered a major setback in her life plan when she got sick and sidelined for two years. Now she’s back on track and efficiently biding her time while she waits for her next chapter to start. What she didn’t expect was for her temporary plan to open up new dreams and possibilities and definitely not to bring the charming and sweet Ryder back into her life. I really liked the dual POV and the dynamic of these characters. The supporting cast was, in more ways than one, a big family which added to the small-town charm. It had a tiny bit of mystery to the plot and was faith filled and inspirational. It reminded me a little of Mandi Blake vibes which I was here for having enjoyed both authors. It was a cute story with a happy ever after.
I received a complimentary copy of this book as part of the Justread Bookstagram tour. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
There's so much to love about this book, including wonderful characters, a delightful small-town setting, and swoon-worthy romance! Elizabeth Dorsey renews her friendship with Ryder Donovan during her summer return to Hearts Bend, and it doesn't take long for old feelings to resurface. They seem perfect for each other, but she is too focused on her career to accept it. I wanted to shake Elizabeth because even though she was loved and supported by a loving family and an awesome man, she was oblivious to what she was throwing away!
It's been a while since I've read a Rachel Hauck book, and this book reminds me of what I've missed. When I'm With You is a poignant story with strong family devotion. misguided goals, and a mystery surrounding Ryder. I recommend When I'm With You to all who enjoy heartwarming second-chance romance.
I received a complimentary eBook from Sunrise Publishing. There was no obligation for a positive review.
When I'm With You by Rachel Hauck is a super sweet story about the importance of going after your dreams - and being flexible enough to change course if your dreams do. I love the way that Hauck incorporated drama, suspense, and a few twists and turns to keep the story both realistic and fun.
I appreciate Elizabeth's focus. She's a fun, hardworking character who I think would be really fun to know - but Ryder is just as important. I love how Ryder has overcome the difficulties of his past and isn't running away from the ones facing him in this book.
That's what makes When I'm With You such a fantastic story: Hauck strikes exactly the right notes between dramatic and lighthearted, between serious and fun. This isn't just a fluffy bunny story, but you won't be sobbing into your pillow, either. There are problems to solve and lessons to learn, but there are also moments of sheer joy, of rightness, that lighten the mood and let the story carry you away.
So I'm definitely on board with Hauck's new book When I'm With You and can't wait for the next one. If you're a fan of stories about close-knit communities, friendship, and love, with a little bit of mystery sprinkled in, you're going to love it, too.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
When I’m With You by Rachel Hauck is a sweet small town romance that will have you falling in love with Hearts Bend, Tennessee .
Elizabeth Dorsey has a plan and the single-minded focus to achieve her goals. These plans do not include returning to Hearts Bend, Tennessee, being waitlisted by Wharton, or falling for her old friend Ryder Donovan.
Ryder Donovan recently moved back to Hearts Bend to take a job that he loves. When invoices with his name on them start to turn up, Ryder begins to suspect he’s being framed.
This sweet romance includes:
Dealing with illness Friends to more Second chances Small town life
My one issue with this book is that resolution of the accusations against Ryder seemed to be almost a side note.
I received an arc of this book from the publisher. My opinions are my own.
Elizabeth Dorsey and Ryder Donovan did not have ideal childhoods. Elizabeth feels obligated to excel in a business career. Ryder's successful and driven parents expect the same of him. I loved how Elizabeth fondly remembers the summers she spend with her grandparents in Heart's Bend, Tennessee where Ryder joined her and her many cousins. Elizabeth hides the fact that she is on the college "wait" list rather than being accepted but she is spending the summer helping in the family furniture store and working as a waitress like she did when a teenager. When Ryder is accused of stealing expensive lumber, Elizabeth works to uncover fraud but will she also discover true love! Maybe that degree is not as important as she thought! I received a complimentary e-book of When I'm With You from the publisher and recommend it to others. This is my honest opinion.
When I'm With You is a small-town, second-chance, Christian romance. There are strong themes of returning home, a small mystery, second chances, and returning to family.
I really liked Elizabeth and Ryder's story, the storytelling is excellent, the pacing is perfect, and it all tied together wonderfully. There were several elements all happening at once, and it did not feel overwhelming. The small-town family closeness was really sweet, and it tied into the reconnection theme really well. Rachel also handles a chronic illness with deep care and offers a realistic perspective.
If you enjoy small-town, second-chance, Christian romances, with themes of coming home again, reconnection, and second chances, then I'm sure you'll enjoy When I'm With You.
I received a complimentary copy from Sunrise Publishing. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
When I’m With You by Rachel Hauck is the perfect small-town romance where everyone knows everyone else and everything about you. This small town sucked me in from the start, and all the characters had my heart.
Elizabeth finds herself back in Hearts Bend after being wait-listed to Wharton’s MBA program. She is unsure of what the future might hold, especially after experiencing an autoimmune response, which sidelined her plans.
Being in Hearts Bend, where the whole town knows you and your family, is a hard thing for Elizabeth to get used to. She grew up learning not to rely on anyone else, so when she finds herself in Hearts Bend living with her grandparents and working for the family business, things change. Getting to see Ryder, her childhood friend, and spending time together brings them closer together. Reigniting the flame Ryder has held for Elizabeth. Elizabeth has her heart set on her plan, so there is no room for Ryder in it.
This friends-to-more romance was sweet with kisses only.
Rachel Hauck does a great job of intertwining faith throughout and with the journey back to faith, learning that it’s ok to ask for help and lean into God and His plans for your life.
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, which I received from the author. A positive review was not required. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
An aptly chosen title since, when Elizabeth spends time with forest ranger, Ryder, she starts doubting her plans to fulfil her hard-fought-for ambition of attending the Wharton business school. Ms Hauck builds an absorbing storyline, with trustworthy characters who are committed to carrying out their assigned jobs to the best of their ability. The crisis involving Ryder adds a gripping climax followed by a miracle which can only be assigned to a Higher Power! The references to the consequences from Elizabeth’s illness are interesting, if a little repetitive. Although Hearts Bend features in other books by this author, this is a separate, enjoyable story introducing new characters. I was offered a free advance copy via Sunrise publishers in exchange for a voluntary and honest review.
I really enjoyed this sweet hometown romance. The setting was very realistic and somewhat relaxing, and the characters, especially Ryder and Beth, were easy to relate to with the difficult life changing decisions they had to make. It was nice that they spent time together in nature as well as in town as they built their relationship. I also enjoyed the mystery that had to be solved because it added an extra meaningful layer of complexity to the story. I definitely want to read the previous books in the series. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys inspirational romance, and I would like to return to Hearts Bend in the future. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book for the publisher. A positive review was not required, and all opinions expressed are entirely my own.
I have long been a Rachel Hauck fan. Her fictional town of Hearts Bend and its timeless stories resonated with me years ago, and now I am thrilled by a spin-off series in When I'm With You. This book contained all things I love about Hauck: a story that grips you, tender romance, and relatable characters complete with struggles and quirks. Her hero and heroine of Elizabeth and Ryder quickly became favorites as their story came to life before me. With perfect timing, exquisite tension, and emotional rawness, this book has become a new favorite.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Fantastic, relatable characters. Hearts Bend is a town anyone would love to live in. The people are all in your business but it comes from a place of love and support. Elizabeth is very driven. She has had to work hard to earn her degree, especially with being diagnosed with Epstein-Barr. At first, she equates a career with success not with friendships and love. Ryder is also determined, but he also is patient. There is a lot of prayer and faith in action in this book. I really loved the Fire Tower and its importance to the town. This is a beautiful, sweet romance. Thank you to Sunrise Media for the opportunity to read it.
I have been enjoying the Hearts Bend, TN books by Rachel Hauck. It's a fun, little town with its quirks and joys and struggles. I really enjoyed this story about Elizabeth and Ryder. I felt for Elizabeth with her health struggles and feeling like she could equally contribute to a relationship and not let others down if/when her body relapsed. It was a reminder that none of us is guaranteed tomorrow and we need to be cautious and wise, but still live today. To allow ourselves to live and love and dream and pursue those things for God's glory. Love shouldn't be held back by fear but love should set the fears free!
What a charming small town romance read. Elizabeth and Ryder's story is a delightful read about friends to more. Elizabeth has her future mapped out, but sometimes plans don't go as planned. This is something that Elizabeth has to learn, along with dealing with setbacks. I enjoyed how Elizabeth helped Ryder who has been accused of things he didn't do. Fans of small town romance reads, especially Hearts Bend, will love When I'm With You by Rachel Hauck. I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was a quick read and one I enjoyed. I loved the small town trope. The love of family and friends was a huge part of the book and it made me wish to live in Hearts Bend. And the main characters had me liking them and pulling for them right from the start. The story had a small mystery happening that had me guessing as to how it would be solved. All in all I would recommend this book to friends. I was given a copy of this book by the publisher. The review I'm giving is 100% my opinion. I am under no obligation to provide a positive review.
The Dorsey Family and Hearts Bend is the community where everyone knows your name. They love to have a reason to get together and celebrate your accomplishments over a great meal.
Elizabeth has overcome so much in her life and has one single goal in life. Can Ryder break through the career minded Elizabeth and give her something even better with love?
Thanks to Sunrise Publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own.
I love Hearts Bend, TN.....small town, everyone knows everyone, they look out for each other, protect each other....Elizabeth Dorsey and Ryder Donovan get a chance at second chances but will they pursue their dreams or allow love to change their course? Faith, family, friends, a touch of mystery, romance and a proposal that will steal your heart. What more could you ask for? Plus a couple of miracles thrown in.
A well written story with wonderful characters set in the small town of Heart's Bend, Tennesee. Romance, family, life goals and expectations combine to.make this book worth the read. This book was provided by Sunrise Publishing and the author for me to read. The opinions expressed here are my own thoughts.
