The Calling #4

The Rising

Rate this book
The Rising is the thrilling conclusion to the bestselling YA fantasy series readers can’t put down.

Breaking free requires more than resistance, it requires the courage to rise up.

As Landore teeters on the edge of revolution, four paths must converge to spark lasting change. But rising up takes courage, and not everyone survives the fire.

Talia has been called many things: the lost princess, a symbol of hope, the future queen. But with the people she loves in danger and the fate of her kingdom hanging in the balance, Talia must choose between becoming who others demand, or uncovering who she truly wishes to be without titles or the weight of destiny.

Jules was ready to rise from the ashes of the life she thought she’d have. But some dreams die hard, especially when she finds herself held captive once again. Stripped of freedom, purpose, and control, will Jules give up or discover a new way to break free?

Raph carried his guilt like a second skin, convinced the only way to atone was through obedience and sacrifice. But when his loyalty clashes with what his heart is telling him, Raph is forced to reconsider everything. Maybe redemption isn’t found in blind allegiance. Maybe the only way forward is letting go of the past and fighting for the future he actually wants.

Prince Kasper was trained to be a weapon and conditioned to never ask questions. But as his father’s grip tightens and the weight of his choices mount, Kasper finds himself lost. The cost of obedience is high, and the pull of his conscience is getting harder to ignore. If he finally listens to the voice in his head instead of the one commanding him, what will he become?

***ARC Review with Spoilers*** 4.5⭐️

By far one of the best YA series I have read!

The slow burn between Raph and Tailia keep you invested in the series, but with the 4 POVs in this book you really got to learn more about the different characters and the internal struggles they were all facing. Though it was hard to tell at times for some characters due to how mature they were, in reality most of them are fairly young adults learning how to live life with the high expectations on their shoulders and you can really see them growing into themselves in this last book as far as learning to think for themselves versus just blind trust/loyalty. And let’s not even get started on the redemption arc for Kasper cause that was a wonderful curveball I was hoping for but not expecting!

The ending was exactly what Landore needed, but was slightly disappointing when it came to Raph and Talia. With how slow the burn was for such an obviously deep seated love they had for each other, I was anticipating a little more confirmation their relationship was truly blossoming into a never ending love scenario. I wasn’t necessarily expecting a marriage proposal, but more than them just traveling the world together. Will be interesting to see if their travels pop up in any future books/series so we can get a little more insight into their love story!

One major question I was left with though…Is Catherine the little girl that Raph lost to the poachers when he was younger? She brought up she was around 5 when she was taken and brought to the castle which would be about the correct age, and in book 2 Raph and Catherine both had a feeling of familiarity/recognition. I always assumed she was, but we never got confirmation on whether there was a connection or not. I feel like that would have been a get way for Raph’s character to get some closer about his past since he has been carrying that around for 13 years and has been something he always comes back to throughout the series.

Overall, could not recommend this series enough and can’t wait to see what L.C. Pye has in store for us in the future!!

The end of the series🥹
I was a part of the Arc readers that got to read the book early and what a gift that was! Bittersweet to close the door on characters I loved. L. C. Pye delivered another solid book and gave us all the ending we needed. The redemption, growth of the characters, and uncovering of secrets kept me in this book, needing to read the next chapter. I like how we got so many POVs to fully understand the scope of all the action happening in this book. This was a fantastic, CLEAN, edge of your seat, slow burn series with just the right about of world building.

I really enjoyed this series as a whole. I read the first three books twice. Once when I found them and then again before reading the 4th book. The characters, the storyline, the themes of trust and loyalty and thinking for yourself, yet valuing what is best for others were well done. I greatly appreciated all of the great love stories without the spice! However, I was a bit disappointed in the ending. All the buildup of the deep love Talia and Raph had for each other, and only a promise to travel together at the end seemed a bit too casual after all they'd been through together. A marriage proposal seemed much more fitting to me after their expressions of choosing each other. I'm also unclear as to how the pirates and the King's fleet did not see each other's ships in passing as they were travelling opposite directions to each other's location at the same time. Overall a great series and one I truly enjoyed and would recommend!

OK, WOW!!! What a way to end the best book series ever. L. C. did an amazing job with this finale! I never saw the plot twists coming and the romance was absolutely perfect. The ending was so much better than I expected!
Will be rereading many times!

It’s so hard to find clean books that are actually good, and this series is not just good it’s amazing!!!
The characters and the story are just so beautifully written, and it never runs flat. Super honored to have gotten an ARC for this book, and can’t wait to read L. C. Pye’s future works!

I have loved this story from book one and, and it feels bittersweet to be at the end. The characters were all likeable and seeing their character growth was an enjoyable time. This final book was just as good as the first 3 and I was so lucky to receive an ARC! I definitely recommend this series to anyone who loves adventure, sweet romance, more realistic fighting capabilities than is mainstream popular right now (anyone else tired of the girl who can destroy 50 enemies before she's 17??) and a journey of self growth for the characters to figure out who they are and what they want to become.

I had the privilege to arc read this entire series and I am so sad that we have reached the end. The slow burn was everything! I absolutely adored Raph and Talia.. they were so good together. I loved having the four points of view… especially with Kasper. We really got to see the kind of guy he was deep down and what his father turned him into. There were so many surprises and betrayals in this book that it kept me on my toes! I do wish we had more from the battle scene but it was really good and I felt like I was there in the midst of it. What a surprise with King Madden!! I don’t say more so I don’t spoil anything but I love how that played out! The ending was also perfect! I love how they changed from a monarchy because that is exactly why Landore needed. I will miss all these characters but I have loved reading about them the last few years.

What a perfect way to end this series! Twists, suspense, happiness. It is just SO good! Not very often do I end a series and feel completely fulfilled but I did with this series. I actually gave a sigh of delight and said, "what a good series!" when I was finished. Highly recommend!!

Absolutely loved this series! The Rising has it all; it features fantasy, 4 POVs, slow burn romance, suspense, and a happily ever after ending. I read this book in 2 days. Each chapter leaves you needing to know what happens next. You won't be able to put it down.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.✨ 4.5/5 First book i’ve read for fun since august and it did not disappoint !! i always say that something about this world just sucks me right in and it didn’t fail ! i read this book SO FAST max 5hrs and was just turning pages like crazy. the character development in this book was amazing on BOTH sides of the war. seeing certain characters finally stand up for themselves and for others was amazing, as well as seeing the downfall of characters we loved and were betrayed by and also characters we didn’t. it was also really fun being hand in hand with talia and raph when it came to not really knowing what was happening, what all the whispers were about, and who to trust. ANNNND talia raph :P i was so infuriated with them for a while but *giggles* loveeeee. honestly the plot for this was pretty good it didn’t feel like it dragged at any point but moved along very nicely. there was many plot twists and just the plot was plotting OKAY. so much happened. having the different POVs was also very helpful in knowing what was happening in both cities, as well in getting an inside scoop on my favorite boys kasper and raph. honestly just amazing, the whole series is so fun and i’m glad it popped up on my timeline and grabbed my attention !!!

This was such a good read! The plot was so well thought out, and I loved the character development for Talia and Ralph. L.C. Pye is simply a master at creating the perfect setting and details to draw the reader into the story. From page 1 you are drawn right into the midst of the rebellion, with the question of loyalties at stake. One of my favorite things about this book the four different POV’s. I also adored the redemption arc for Prince Kasper, and how there is a definite change in character to reunify the kingdoms. Definitely a 10/10 read, and one I will forever cherish.

Sometimes in order to rise, we have to give up what has held us back.

This might mean cutting ties that have broken us, questioning beliefs we’ve always held, or simply discovering that we really do have the power to decide who we want to be and where we want to belong.

But this path isn’t always easy, as author L.C. Pye shows us. Yet, it can be one full of love and hope – even in the darkest of places.

And Kasper’s character development is a true testament to that.

I picked up the 4th book in this series to see how everything would unfold. To see who Talia became. I knew Prince Kasper would probably have a lot of character development, but I had no idea he would soon become my favorite character (Unfortunately, you lost your spot long ago, Alon).

The Rising teaches the value of trusting your own voice. (Because "you have a choice").

Kasper might have grown up with endless resources, but at the end of the day, his father is the one makes the decisions.
It hasn’t been easy playing a role in the kingdom’s death and destruction for so long, but what else can he do? He’s stuck. And hating every minute of it.

“You’re in a hard place. But you’re not without a choice,” a special source tells him.
“…You’re wrong.”
“…Maybe. But what I see is a young heart trying to survive in a world that has never been kind to it.”

The Rising, like the rest of The Calling Series, is not a quick and easy read. Rather, it’s a realistic portrait of human anguish, sorrow, and the hollowness that sometimes stems from not knowing where you fit in this world. Yet, instead of leaving us in the shadows, author L.C. Pye grants raw and beautiful moments of a story full of hope and belonging – a place where we all want to end up.

Powerful people (good or bad) don’t get to dictate your life. You do.

Talia, like Kasper, has felt stuck in both her current situation and in deciding her future. She wants to make her own choices, but fears she always messes things up. And it’s exactly that fear that leads her to believe that maybe someone else knows better for her life. Thus, the story turns into a battle of standing for her own authenticity and making a difference – even if that means going against others’ well-intentioned (or mal-intentioned) plans.

Don’t be afraid to question things (and to change).

The Calling Series, is a unique series of Multi-Points-Of-View (POV), with an impressive balance of up to 4 different character perspectives. On top of that, many characters have moments of growth, as shown in The Rising. Loyalties and plans are questioned, leaving characters to discover and fight for what really matters to them.

And it’s beautiful to see.

Although originally my favorite character, I became disappointed in Alon since The Finding and The Choosing. However, while we do get the tiniest implication of Alon's character growth in The Rising, I would have personally liked to have seen more from him – especially in the end.
Because after all, change is not about destruction, but rather healing and restoration, as we see throughout the book. I'm also still a little fascinated by Alon's past and how it relates with the final battle.

The Rising has one of the best fighting scenes.

I have to say, the final fighting scene in The Rising is one of the best ones I have ever witnessed in a book. It’s obliterating and raw – and freeing. I can easily picture those who have been consumed with years and years of rage and feeling unheard throughout their lives resonating with the fighter in this scene. It's the turning point of the book.

The Rising shows that you choose your family; you choose where you belong.

And that really is the best part of this series. Talia's connections with those warriors she met in the forest only a couple of months before have changed her life forever...and she has changed theirs.

The Slow-burn finally, well…burns.

While I won’t say too much about this in particular, Raph and Talia have a particularly sweet moment in the end that might remind some readers of another special moment that the two previously shared. While both have come a long way in terms of character growth, it’s still just the beginning for them to step into who they both really are...

Which makes me wonder if L.C. Pye will deliver some sort of spinoff or companion novels in the future…Because after all, nothing beats Talia's new-found family of warriors wandering around Landore saving the day. How can we get enough of that?

But perhaps that’ll be a story for another time. ;-)

Thank you L.C. for choosing me as an ARC reader!! Congrats on this amazing conclusion!!

I had the wonderful privilege of receiving an ARC for this book. First off let me just say thank you to L.C Pye for her dedication and commitment to this series. It is very apparent that the author delved deeply into each characters story and catered to their plots which all coincided with each other in the end. Secondly, this book continued in the same spirit as book 3, where each character continued their growth into becoming who they were called to be and L.C did a wonderful job shaping each perspective that left you in suspense at the end of each chapter to have the utter need to keep reading. I loved the plot twists with the King and Prince and the slow burn romance of Talia and Raph. I also loved the scenes at sea and the fighting battle at the end. You really felt submerged in to the action. High recommend to any lovers of fantasy, suspense and coming of age style storylines. Much love to L.C Pye!

So grateful to be on the ARC team!
What a conclusion. I’m so sad to see these stories come to an end because I love these characters! One thing so incredible about this series is how awesome the side characters are. Not only do you fall in love with the main ones but also the side ones!
Dare I say, I wanted even more romance with Talia and Raph?? I was wanting a little more for their ending. But I was still pleased overall with their ending.
I will say the last 30% of the book seemed to go very quickly. I would have loved a little more info about how everything happened. It seemed like it all went down so fast.
I’m really hoping that some of these characters pop up in maybe a spinoff series??? Here’s to hoping!
Overall such a well done series!

I found L.C. on TikTok and immediately reached out to her after finishing The Finding. I told her to hurry up and finish the 3rd book and let me read it before anyone else. I of course was only kidding but she not only allowed me to read it as an arc reader but also allowed me to read The Rising as well.

This is such an amazing series. I loved this series so much and I always talk about it to anyone that will listen. Great Job L.C. I hope you continue to write, I will be keeping my eye out for future books from you.

The Rising was a great finale to this series! The character growth is powerful and heartfelt, and the emotional stakes land with real impact. There was a balance of tension, heart, and reflection especially with all of the different point of views throughout the story. The different POVs really kept my attention and kept me wanting to know what happens next. This is definitely unusual for me but hasn’t been with this series. I really enjoyed reading this series and can’t wait to see what may be next for L.C. Pye.

This was the ending we needed. I was happy to see each character work through conflicts, both external and internal. There is much action in this book. I learned I knew I loved a specific character even if they seemed bad initially. The tension that started since book 1 is sky high but comes to a wonderful conclusion finally. There are betrayals, mysteries answered, and surprising twists, but I was completely down for it.

The world building in these books is easy to follow, but the depth continues with each book. The characters grow so much through the series.

I was an ARC reader and was so happy to read "The Rising" by L.C. Pye early! This book was riveting and the perfect end to what the author has been building for the past four years with this series! My favorite thing about this conclusion was how the ending satisfied major themes but wasn't cliche or predictable. It's fast-paced as ever and will definitely grab your attention. Highly recommend this series to YA and up!

I started to really love where it was going towards about the halfway mark. I love Talia’s arc and that her and R finally professed their feelings. I was kinda irritated with Talia in the beginning but after what Richard did I changed how I felt. I saw Kaspers arc coming and saw the end coming but it was still a good ending for all.
As with all the books in the series I wish there was a bit more descriptions of things so I could picture it in my mind while reading.

Fantastic conclusion to this series! I absolutely love the way each of these character's stories are wrapped up and the decisions they make to create the world they want to live in. I have loved these characters since the beginning and it felt like such an accomplishment in seeing how much they've grown through the series to get to this last book. Such a great series and an amazing book.

I’m honestly so sad this series is over. I’ve enjoyed these books so much, and The Rising was the perfect ending. I loved the characters and getting to see things from their different points of view — it kept the whole story feeling fun and dynamic. I’d totally recommend this series to any young reader who wants clean romance, adventure, and a story that just pulls you in.

When my only complaint is that it ended too soon that makes it an easy 5 stars for me.

I desperately hope we get more books in this world! I feel like there is so much potential for these characters that the stories must go on’

I really enjoyed this series and am hopeful that I’ll get to enjoy more L. C. Pye books in the future!
