Players Club Sinners #3

Playing with Surrender

Rate this book
He’s the man I can’t forget. I'm the client he can’t touch. But some rules are meant to be broken.

I’ve spent my whole life being a good girl, and where has it gotten me? Nowhere. So I do something reckless, just for me. I let my best friend drag me to The Players Club where I taste freedom for the first time…and a dark, intense stranger catches me watching what it looks like to truly surrender. With nothing but his voice and hands, he gives me the most explosive night of my life.

It was supposed to be one night of pleasure, until Tate Holland walks back into my life as my full-time bodyguard. Now, he’s professional. Controlled. Off-limits. But every look ignites me. Every command makes me ache. Every moment alone feels like one breath away from breaking every rule just to touch him again.

While keeping me safe, Tate sees the real me beneath the privilege. He challenges me. He believes in me even when my own family doesn’t. And I see the truth behind his walls, the darkness he’s too afraid to unleash, the guilt he carries. The man who thinks he’s too dangerous to love.

But I crave that primal side to him, and I want every piece he tries to hide.

When the danger escalates and betrayal strikes from someone close by, Tate becomes the one man I can trust with my life…and my heart. Now, all that’s left is for him to trust me with his.

Playing with Surrender is a steamy, high-stakes romance featuring a protective alpha hero, a defiant dreamer, and a love story where surrender becomes the most powerful kind of love.

Thank you to the author agency for the e-arc of this book.
I absolutely devoured this book. It is extremely fast paced and well written with characters you will instantly love. Tate and Stella meet at a BDSM club and after their time together she runs away leaving him to wonder what went wrong. Then he becomes her bodyguard. The chemistry between these two was unmatched and I adored how much he loved and supported her. Overall a phenomenal read.

Stella and Tate❤️‍🩹

Playing with Surrender has us delving into Stella and Tate’s story. I loved the way they meet at the Players Club and then again when Tate is assigned as her bodyguard🥰 I will say Stella’s family left a bad taste in my mouth and I was constantly fighting the urge to swear at them but I loved how Tate fought for her, in his own quiet way. Both are definitely scarred by their pasts and together they heal and turn a healing story into one that’s beautiful as well❣️

I can’t wait for the next book🙌 I received an advanced copy via Booksprout and willingly leave my honest review😍

Playing with Surrender is a deeply emotional bodyguard romance about control, identity, and what it means to finally choose yourself in a world that has always tried to define you.

Stella Haywood has spent her entire life being shaped by expectations. Coming from a powerful, high-society family, she’s constantly treated like something to be managed rather than understood. Her dreams of becoming a fashion designer are dismissed as childish, her independence is discouraged, and her voice is consistently minimized.

When a potential threat forces her to move back home under constant protection, Stella loses what little freedom she had just begun to experience.

Enter Tate Hollard.

A week before her life is locked down again, Stella gets a glimpse of freedom at the Players Club—a place where she is not “Stella Haywood,” but simply herself. It’s there she meets Tate, and for the first time, she experiences something that feels both terrifying and liberating: surrender.

When Tate is later assigned as her bodyguard, the tension between them becomes unavoidable. They pretend they don’t know each other—but the connection never disappears.

At its core, this story is about reclaiming agency.

Stella’s journey is one of breaking free—not just from her family, but from the version of herself they tried to create. The emotional weight of being constantly dismissed, controlled, and made to feel “less than” is handled in a way that feels painfully real.

Tate’s story mirrors hers in a different way. Coming from an abusive past, he fears the darkness within himself and works hard to keep it contained. His hesitation isn’t just about professionalism—it’s about fear of becoming someone he hates.

Together, they create a dynamic built on tension, restraint, and ultimately, trust.

Their relationship feels earned. The push and pull between them—Stella wanting control over her own life, and Tate trying to protect her (sometimes too much)—creates a tension that is both frustrating and incredibly compelling.

Emotionally, this story hits hard. Stella’s experience of feeling overlooked, underestimated, and used by the people around her is deeply relatable. Even the relationships meant to protect her—like her connection with Oliver—highlight how often she is placed in situations where her needs come second.

The pacing allows that tension to build naturally, especially as the external threat looms in the background. While the mystery adds pressure, the true focus remains on Stella finding her voice and Tate learning to trust her strength.

The writing pulls you into both the high-society world and the emotional isolation Stella feels within it. It’s frustrating, heartbreaking, and ultimately empowering.

The story feels complete, but like others in this interconnected world, it leaves you wanting more from the surrounding characters.

A powerful romance about taking control of your life, embracing your desires, and refusing to be defined by anyone else’s expectations.

This was such a heartfelt and addictive read, especially if you love a good bodyguard romance with a bit of spice and suspense.

When Stella steps into a kink club for the first time, she never expects to meet Tate. He’s a dominant, intense, and completely irresistible man who gives her one of the most unforgettable experiences of her life. But the real twist comes later, when Stella finds herself in danger… and Tate reappears as her new bodyguard.

From there, the tension between them is undeniable. Their connection is instant, intense and impossible to ignore, leading to a secret relationship that feels both forbidden and inevitable. With someone targeting Stella and her family constantly undermining her choices, the peace they find together is fragile at best.

I really loved both Stella and Tate. Tate is your classic closed-off, dominant MMC; controlled on the outside but battling his own darkness within. Stella, on the other hand, is kind and constantly trying to meet her family’s expectations, even when they completely dismiss her dreams. Watching her come into her own and start choosing herself was so satisfying. Together, they balance each other beautifully. Stella brings softness and understanding to Tate, while he gives her the support and belief she’s been missing.

And honestly, Stella’s family? The worst. While they may have protected her physically, they were incredibly controlling and dismissive of what she actually wanted, which made it even more satisfying to see Tate step in and support her fully.

My only small critique is that I wanted more spice throughout the book. Their first scene was absolutely incredible, but I found myself wishing for more of those intimate moments as their relationship developed. That said, their communication and emotional connection were done so well and it really strengthened their bond.

Overall, this was a really enjoyable read with great chemistry, strong character dynamics, and just the right mix of tension, romance, and danger.

OH MY GOD!!!!!
This was such an incredible book!!!!! I sometimes struggle with the longer books, often having to interrupt my reading multiple times, and I lose the story momentum or lose track of the story, or just lose interest because the story can’t hold me…. But THIS ONE????!!!! Had my attention from the first page to the last. The struggle Stella had with her family was so well done and heartbreaking but then so uplifting to see how things end for her🥰😍🥰😍😍 I loved the growth in both Tate and Stella. The action and suspense were fantastic. The spice???? 10/10 chili peppers🤗🥰😍🔥🔥🔥.

Playing with Surrender by Erika Wilde is a sultry and intense contemporary romance that dives deep into BDSM dynamics, power exchange, and unexpected emotional surrender with Wilde's signature erotic heat. The story follows a confident heroine exploring her submissive side with a dominant, enigmatic hero who pushes her boundaries amid steamy club scenes, trust-building tension, and hidden vulnerabilities. Wilde's seductive prose builds an intoxicating slow-burn that explodes into passionate, boundary-testing encounters.

I loved the hero's masterful control revealing tender care, the heroine's bold journey from curiosity to empowerment, and their electric chemistry blending kink with genuine heart that left me breathless.

While BDSM tropes feel familiar, Wilde's sensual depth and character growth make it sizzle. Overall, I’m giving Playing with Surrender four stars. It’s a tantalizing, immersive read perfect for fans of erotic romances with emotional edge.

Stella and Tate were intense. Stella is always the good girl, does what she’s told and what’s expected of her by her parents. No one takes her passions seriously even though she’s created a business and a good one at that. When her friend Melissa convinces her to go to the Players Club and let loose Stella had no idea what she had been missing in her life. Feeling sexy, vulnerable, wanting things she never imagined and when Tate walks up to her, everything is about to change for both of them. Tate has been teetering on the edge lately, wanting what his friends have and also keeping the status quo. He never expected to feel anything for Stella, but after their night together, she’s one he can’t forget and when an assignment falls in his lap he can’t pass it up. Only how is he going to keep his hand off his now client, the one he can’t forget? Their story is sexy, steamy, erotic and just plain HOT! I loved this book and can't wait for the next one.

Another steamy story, with a well written plot, wonderful characters. Stella decides to break free from the “good girl” expectations of her life. Going to the Players Club, she partners with Tate, a man who doesn’t do relationships. Both are stunned by their experience together but Stella ghosts him. From there we have the surprise reunion when Tate becomes her bodyguard due to her dad’s job. Phew, talk about tension between two people! I enjoyed watching Stella bloom. The banter and tension was sizzling as well as the passion. The added suspense made the story even better. Awesome addition to this series!

Stella's life is not her own, she's merely someone who parents view as just an extension of their high society life. Her dream is to be a fashion designer, even has the designs to prove it, but in their eyes, that's not an acceptable thing for their daughter to do. So taking one night to do something she's only fantasized before, will have to be the one and only time of her life that's just for her. The man she meets and has the most unforgettable experience with will just have to remain in her memories...until he walks back into her life as her new bodyguard. The new bodyguard that's is even more forbidden than before.

Tate and Stella's story is intense and emotional and so deliciously steamy. From their very first meeting, their connection was obvious, and only deepened, both emotionally and physically, as time passed. Stella had always done what her parents wanted, and they treated her horribly for it, so it was only a matter of time before she rebelled and took back control of her life. That's where Tate came in. Their timing was perfect - he became her rock and her guide to submission, and she became his warmth, and the woman to help him heal from his own pain. I love how perfect they were for each other as they fell so hard.

🎧 Audiobook review 🎧⚡ Spoilers might lie ahead—I usually like to talk shit about everything that goes down in these books

This is the story of an innocent, sad little rich girl who has spent her entire life doing the right thing and decides she wants to rebel… for one night.

Naturally, instead of getting drunk, getting a tattoo, or making literally any other questionable life choice, she goes straight to a sex club.

Zero to BDSM in 0.2 seconds.

There she meets the resident broody bodyguard, who instantly clocks her as “pure and innocent” because apparently the man has the scenting abilities of a bloodhound. He practically sniffs the innocence off her, gets an immediate hard-on for her soul, and boom—they’re emotionally bonded before they’ve exchanged enough words to fill a Post-it note.

Cue the Dom/sub dynamic.

Girl likes getting plowed. Girl panics. Girl runs away.

Time to wheel out the tragic backstory.

Turns out her family sucks, someone’s threatening to kill her, and now Mr. Bodyguard has to move into her house to protect her.

But don’t worry—they can’t be together because insert world’s smallest violin. She’s rich, he’s poor. She’s light, he’s darkness. She’s sunshine, he’s a permanent thundercloud with abs.

Speaking of this “darkness”…

The author spends about 87% of the book reminding us that this man has a terrifying darkness inside him. A beast. Something dangerous. Something he has to keep under control every waking second.

Naturally I assumed he was secretly into some truly unhinged shit.

Cannibalism? Murder? Blood play? Kidnapping? Something worthy of all this dramatic buildup?

Nope.

He likes rough sex.

That’s…

That’s literally it.

Maybe a little primal play.

And I mean little. This isn’t Mila Crawford or Lauren Biel levels of “what the actual fuck did I just read?” It’s BDSM with the training wheels still attached.

The way this book hyped him up, I expected Satan.

Instead I got a dude with a spanking kink.

Honestly, the sex scenes were tamer than a nun leading Sunday mass. For a book that revolves around a sex club and BDSM, this thing had the spice level of unseasoned boiled chicken.

Now, about the thriller plot.

Someone who’s been meticulously planning revenge against her father decides the smartest possible strategy is…

…sending threatening letters.

Following her around.

Making sure everyone knows she’s in danger.

Basically announcing every step of his master plan before attempting it.

Can someone explain the logic?

You’ve spent years infiltrating their inner circle, only to sabotage yourself by screaming, “HEY GUYS, CRIME IS COMING!” Congratulations. She’s now under twenty-four-hour protection because apparently your evil plan required an RSVP.

Her family is somehow even worse.

Every single one of them is a walking cliché. If Evil Rich Family™ had a starter pack, these people would be the cover photo. They’re cruel, manipulative, abusive, emotionally constipated—you name it, they’ve got it.

The biggest crime, though?

The pacing.

Sweet baby Jesus.

Nothing. Ever. Happens.

Instead, every chapter is padded with endless internal monologues where people think the exact same thoughts over and over and over again. It’s like listening to someone explain a dream they had after taking melatonin.

I started skipping chapters.

Not paragraphs.

Entire. Chapters.

And guess what?

I didn’t miss a goddamn thing.

This book reminded me exactly why I’ve been gravitating toward MM romance lately. At least those authors usually have the decency to bring some creativity to the table instead of recycling the same broody-alpha-with-a-heart-of-gold formula for the ten-thousandth time.

The only people who deserved a paycheck here were the narrators. They carried this audiobook on their backs and somehow made me keep listening long after the story had waved every red flag imaginable.

Sadly, it’s dual narration instead of duet because, apparently, duet narration wasn’t in the budget.

Playing with Surrender by Erika Wilde is the third book in the Players Club Sinners series and delivers a seductive bodyguard romance filled with forbidden tension, emotional vulnerability, and a heroine discovering her own power.

Abby has spent her entire life being the perfect daughter, living within the expectations of her wealthy and controlling family. After years of doing everything right and feeling like it has gotten her nowhere, she finally decides to do something reckless for herself. A night at The Players Club with her best friend opens the door to a world she has only ever imagined, and there she meets a dark, commanding stranger who awakens something inside her she never knew existed. Their connection is instant, intense, and unforgettable.

Tate Holland is disciplined, controlled, and used to keeping his emotions locked down. When fate throws Abby back into his life as the woman he has been hired to protect, the attraction between them becomes impossible to ignore. What makes the situation even more complicated is that Abby is now completely off limits. As her bodyguard, Tate must remain professional, but every moment they spend together pushes his restraint closer to the edge.

The dynamic between Abby and Tate is what truly drives this story. Abby’s journey from the sheltered good girl to someone willing to embrace her desires and independence is satisfying to watch unfold. Tate, on the other hand, carries guilt and emotional scars that make him believe he is too dangerous to give Abby what she deserves. Their chemistry is undeniable, and the tension between them builds beautifully as both struggle against the rules that keep them apart.

What makes this story work so well is the balance between the emotional depth and the heat of the romance. Tate’s protective nature and Abby’s growing confidence create a relationship that feels both intense and heartfelt. As danger begins to close in around Abby and betrayal comes from an unexpected place, the stakes rise and force both characters to confront what they truly mean to each other.

Playing with Surrender is a passionate and engaging romance about trust, vulnerability, and learning that surrender can sometimes be the strongest choice of all. With a fiercely protective hero, a heroine stepping into her own strength, and plenty of simmering tension, this installment adds another addictive story to the Players Club Sinners series.

PLAYING WITH SURRENDER is the third instalment in Erika Wilde’s contemporary, adult PLAYERS CLUB SINNER erotic, romantic suspense series. This is former US Marine turned security specialist Tate Holland, and twenty-six year old, fashion designer Stella Hayward’s story line. PLAYING WITH SURRENDER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Tate and Stella) PLAYING WITH SURRENDER follows the building but forbidden relationship between our story line couple. Stella Hayward is a fashion designer but her parents refuse to accept it for anything more than a hobby. Desperate to escape, Stella along with her friend Melissa visit an exclusive $ex club where Stella will meet her future in the guise of former US Marine Tate Holland. One ‘scene’ together, and Stella ghosted our hero, a man with whom she would come face to face when threats to her life become dangerous and dark. Stella is a target of revenge, and Tate Holland is a security specialist working for Noble and Associates Security firm. Knowing he should have recused himself, Tate becomes guardian and protector of the woman with whom he will fall in love.

The world building follows several pathways including the search for a stalker, someone threatening the life of our story line heroine. As Stella makes plans to set out on her own, an ‘angel investor’ comes to the rescue, someone who is willing to take more than a chance with our story line heroine.

The relationship between Stella and Tate begins as a one-night stand, of a sorts but Stella ghosted Tate after their club scene together, a scene neither of which would ever forget. Working as Stella’s security guard, brings our couple closer together but when Stella goes missing, Tate is determined to bring her back alive. The $ex scenes are intimate and provocative without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters are energetic , questionable and dynamic. We are introduced to Stella’s friend Melissa; Stella’s brother Charlie, and her parents Charles and Celeste’ best friend Oliver, as well as the return of Ford Perish, and Chase Noble.

PLAYING WITH SURRENDER is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, power and control, family and relationships, acceptance and love. The fast paced, character driven premise is dramatic and intriguing; the romance is seductive; the characters are desperate and determined.

I absolutely devoured Playing with Surrender. Like… stayed-up-way-too-late, “just one more chapter” until suddenly it’s 2am and my brain is buzzing kind of devoured. This book had me hooked from the very first moment Stella walks into The Players Club because you just know something life-changing is about to happen… and then Tate walks in and yeah. Game over. 🔥

Stella was such a great heroine. She’s spent her whole life being the “good girl,” doing what everyone expects, living inside this polished little box her family built for her. Watching her start to push back and discover what she actually wants was SO satisfying. I loved that underneath the privilege she’s strong, curious, and brave enough to chase the parts of herself she’s been denying.

And Tate… whew. Tate Holland is that quiet, controlled, intense kind of hero that just melts you. The kind who doesn’t say much but when he does you feel it. The tension between him and Stella was absolutely electric. Every look, every command, every moment where they’re trying so hard to stay professional while the chemistry is basically exploding around them… I was eating it up. The bodyguard trope already has me weak and this book did it SO well. Protective, dominant, tortured hero energy everywhere and I loved every second. 😮‍🔥

What really got me though was the emotional side of Tate. He carries so much guilt and darkness and truly believes he’s too dangerous to love. Those moments where Stella sees through his walls and refuses to back away? Ugh. My heart. Their connection felt intense and real, not just physical but emotional in a way that made every scene between them hit harder.

And when the danger ramps up later in the story?? I was flipping pages like crazy. The suspense, the betrayal, the stakes suddenly getting real… it added this whole adrenaline rush to the romance that made the payoff even better.

Stella and Tate were honestly perfect together. From the very start I was rooting for them so hard. Their dynamic of control and trust, strength and vulnerability, was just chef’s kiss. Watching them learn that surrender isn’t weakness but actually the bravest kind of love was beautiful.

Steamy, emotional, addictive… this book had everything. If you love protective alpha heroes, forbidden tension, and heroines finding their power, you NEED this one. I’m still thinking about Tate and Stella and I’m not mad about it. 💫🔥

Stella Hayward has been a good girl her entire life and she’s tired of trying to live up to her parents’ high standards. She accepts her best friend’s invitation to The Player’s Club to take a walk on the wild side. While at the Club, a handsome mysterious stranger introduces himself as Tate, takes charge of the evening and gives her the time of her life. They connect on a level neither of them though was possible with a stranger. Stella didn’t realize how much she needed that night and disappears without a word.

The next time they are in each other’s orbits is when Stella is targeted thanks to her father being a high-powered attorney and her family enlists Noble and Associates to keep her safe. Security Expert Tate Holland is tasked with being Stella’s bodyguard, but he can’t stop thinking about that one night. He prides himself on being able to stay professional and in-control, but Stella is making it hard. Tate found her captivating the first time he saw her in The Player’s Club. Living under her parents’ roof, right across the hall from one another, is going to be a real test of his willpower.

Spending a lot of their time together, Stella and Tate’s boundaries become crossed, and they get to see each other for who they really are. It makes Tate see how special Stella is, even if her own family doesn’t see her for who she truly is. That makes his walls crumble, and they give in to their desire for one another. The heat coming off these pages is explosive, smexy and addictive.

That still doesn’t mean that Tate thinks he’s good enough for Stella. That her family will accept him as part of Stella’s life. Or that his dark side won’t overtake her light. When the danger escalates, Tate will stop at nothing to keep Stella safe and to find out who is behind all of it. Will this be the turning point in their relationship? Will Tate realize that all Stella wants is someone to love her for her and not for her parents’ money and connections?

Erika Wilde knows how to write a tantalizing story that brings the reader to the edge of pleasure. I will happily read whatever story is next in this series, as they keep getting hotter and wilder.

Stella and Tate are two characters who tug at your heartstrings, create a whole lot of steam and make you smile and cheer when they finally find their way forward together. After their very steamy encounter on the night they met, neither expected to see each other. Then Tate is assigned as Stella’s bodyguard. Cue the repressed desire, the struggle for control and a whole lot of steam when that proves to be futile.

Tate is the stoic, protective and dedicated bodyguard on the surface, but underneath that facade is a darker, broodier and definitely more possessive man that wants to claim Stella as his. His brutal childhood and his father’s DNA running through him has Tate certain that Stella, a pampered society princess, (as he first thinks), should stay well away from him. He thinks their steamy encounter was an act of rebellion against her controlling parents, and now she is back to being the dutiful daughter. He soon realizes that he has the wrong impression of her.

Stellar is braver than he thought, more talented and ultra determined to forge her own way in a career her parents have dismissed as a hobby. She craves their approval, but is strong enough to keep moving forward without it. She sees his darker side and doesn’t back down, but instead rises to meet and even challenge it. Stella hides her adventurous and bold side under her prim and proper socialite facade, but with him she can set it free. Seeing her struggle under the control of her parents gives him the idea to help her fulfill her dreams and reach her full potential. Things become much more complicated than he anticipated and soon Stella is in grave danger. The race is in to save her….the woman he is now certain he can’t live without.

I love their super hot chemistry, their very real and intense connection and the way they truly see each other. The steamy encounters, the banter and suspense make this book a thrilling and fascinating read.

Stella Hayward never deviated from her parents' plans and they don't approve of her career choice. She is talented clothing designer yet her parents see that as phase or as hobby. She feels trapped so she decided to be reckless and goes to players club with her best friend. Once she stepped in the club, everything was fascinating and wakes her sexual desire she never discovered. She meets Tate who makes her night unforgettable and she leaves. She never thought she would see him again until he shows up right in front of her.
Tate never met anybody like Stella. He is IT expert at security firm and was assigned a field work as high profile lawyers daughter. He never thought that daughter will be Stella. She was one he can't forget but his job was on line and she was his client. He never mixes business with pleasure but it is extremely difficult when she is just front of him.
There is a threat against Stella and she had to move back home and Tate will be guarding her 24/7. Stella and Tate trying to keep things professional but you can't deny strong sparks and her parents are making it even more difficult.
Stella endures her parents' constant disapproval and dismissal and Tate sees it all and becomes her only comfort and support because he also suffered plenty from his dad.
Threat against Stella is looming yet can't seem to find the source and it's keeping things on the edge. They are getting closer than ever and the threat is escalating and puts Stella in even more danger.
I really liked Stella and Tate's journey to their happily ever after. It wasn't easy but they finally found each other and made their relationship much stronger. Stella's family wasn't my favorite but it made their ending much sweeter. I enjoyed reading it.

This was such a delicious read with insane chemistry between the main characters and a scorching heat that melt the pages on my kindle, I devoured this book in one sitting!

As soon as I saw that this was a bodyguard/forbidden romance I knew I needed to read this book and oh boy it was so much more that what I was expecting. Stella has always been the good girl never breaking any rules and acting accordingly as her parents expected of her. Her dream is to make it into the fashion industry, she has solid ideas of how to grow her business unfortunately for her she doesn't have the support of her parents. So one night she decides to do something reckless and definitely out of the ordinary for her. She decides to accept the invitation of a friend and go to the Player Club a place where desires come to play and in her case she finds a sexy stranger who pushes her limits and gives an unforgettable night of passion.

Tate Holland's life is about control and discipline. So when he is hired to protect the daughter of a well know lawyer he never expected that the woman who made him break his rules at the Players Club is his new assignment, which makes her off limits.

I loved the chemistry between Tate and Stella. Their chemistry was intense and sweet at the same time. I loved how Tate discovers that Stella was not a spoiled princess and that everything she accomplish in her career was on her own. I loved how he is there to encourage and support her. I also enjoyed how Stella is persistent and doesn't give up specially when it comes to Tate.

This was such a great story. It had the perfect blend of passion, friendship, tender moments and a dash of suspense. I can't wait for more of this series.

Passion, desire, surrender

PLAYING WITH SURRENDER was another fabulous addition to the Players Club Sinners series. I devoured it within a matter of hours. Erika Wilde's style drew me in and the characters, well, I couldn't help falling for them. It is a bodyguard roance which is emotional, sexy, tension filled, and deals with topics about control, choice, and self-discovery.

Stella Hayward has lived her life in the shadow of her parents, doing exactly what they wanted her to do. Stella has had enough, she has dreams of her own, dreams of being a fashion designer, opening her own storefront, and being independent. Her parents belittle her dreams and put her down as a person. As an act of rebellion she attends The Players Club, a sex club, with her best friend. It is a chance for her to be herself, to follow her desires. There she meets Tate Holland, a man who shows her what it feels like to be desired, free, and feel the pleasure of surrender. Tate brings his own emotional burdens to this story. He suffered an abusive childhood and fears the darkness inside him. He struggles to control it, especially around Stella.

When Stella's life is threatened Tate is assigned as her bodyguard. While they try to pretend they've never met, the tension and desire between them is rife. The connection they formed at the bar is one neither can forget. Will they be able to ignore it or will their heated desires cause them to surrender to the intensity of their needs?

PLAYING WITH SURRENDER was emtional, a powerful story of self-discovery, taking control, choices and learning the pleasure of surrender. It was an unputdownable read.

Playing with Surrender was an immediate yes for me. Bodyguard trope, power dynamics, and a touch of primal play? That combination is hard to resist, and this one absolutely delivers.

I was hooked from the moment Stella walks into The Players Club. You can feel that shift coming, like something in her life is about to crack open, and when Tate steps in, it’s instant tension.

Stella was such a strong heroine in a quiet, grounded way. She’s spent her life being exactly who she’s expected to be, but there’s this steady curiosity in her, this pull toward something more. I loved watching her lean into that and start claiming parts of herself she’s kept buried.

Tate is the definition of controlled intensity. He’s not loud about it, but everything about him feels deliberate and restrained in a way that makes the chemistry hit even harder. The dynamic between them is tight with tension. Every look, every shift in control, every moment where they’re trying to hold the line and clearly failing.

Their relationship really works because of that balance. Control and trust, strength and vulnerability. It never feels one note, and the emotional layer behind it gives the connection more weight than just the surface level heat.

And just when you think you know where things are headed, the suspense kicks in toward the end and raises the stakes in a way that keeps you fully locked in.

This book leans into familiar tropes, but it does it with confidence and just enough edge to keep it engaging the whole way through. If you’re into protective, emotionally guarded heroes and a heroine finding her voice in the process, this one is worth the read.

Stella Hayward has tried to live up to her parent's expectations of her, even if it means not being true to herself. Yet she refuses to give up her dreams of being a fashion designer. With her friend Melissa's encouragement she decides to attend a BDSM club one night and there she meets a man who forces her out of her comfort zone and she realizes what she has been missing in her life.

Then her father receives a threat against Stella and now she is back to being "imprisoned" by her parents back at their house and under the watchful eye of a bodyguard.

Tate Holland is attracted to Stella the moment he sees her in The Players Club and even though she is not the usual type of girl that he goes for, there is something that makes him follow her. Then he receives her file from his boss and he is now to protect her from an unknown threat.

Can they stay away from each other?

I enjoyed this book. Obviously the physical intimacy starts off right from the beginning at the club and there is an obvious attraction between the two that you know each of them are going to be fighting through the book.

I really liked Stella's character and how hard she worked to prove herself and it was sad that her parents only cared about her getting married to the right man.

Tate was a good character but had really low self worth due to his father and it was depressing that he could see himself like how others saw him.

The mystery was good and I did like the twist in where the threat was coming from. I enjoyed the ending and what Stella achieved!

This was just a one and done, an escape. When Stella takes her bestie up on an invitation to go to Players Club, she doesn’t know what to expect. All the temptation is new and arousing. Tate Holland has watched two of his buddies find their woman. He isn’t looking for that. When he spies a beauty while watching a scene, he knows he has to have her. One night of heated passion is beyond what he thought for a first timer. But an incident brings them back together again. He is hired to protect Stella from a stalker. It has to remain professional.

Well that certainly doesn’t happen. It starts off professional but these two have already laid hands on each other. Stella has felt a passion she never knew. She wants more from Tate but he is concerned that she wont like the dark side of him. Of course, Tate is assuming she wouldn’t be able to handle it. Stella has been pushed back by her mother since she left home. Her mother keeps telling everyone that Stella’s fashion is just a phase but it isn’t. Stella has talent. And being trapped in her family home is not the way Stella wants to live. Her family never saw potential in her. Always pushing her down. Thank goodness for Tate. He saw her and all the strength and talent she had. I had a feeling about who the person was by way of the conversations. You notice that Stella’s family never once said sorry or gave her praise. Sad but she has Tate and his friends.

I honestly had such a great time reading *Playing with Surrender*! It pulled me in right away with that intense, can’t-look-away kind of chemistry between the main characters. From the start, there’s this strong attraction, but what I really loved is how the story takes its time peeling back their layers. You get to see their insecurities, past hurts, and emotional walls, which makes everything feel so much more meaningful than just a typical steamy romance.

The dynamic between them is full of tension and vulnerability—there’s a lot of push and pull, moments of hesitation, and emotional risk that keeps things interesting. And yes, the chemistry is definitely 🔥, but it never feels like that’s all there is. The emotional connection builds in a really satisfying way, especially as trust starts to grow and they begin to open up to each other. Those softer, more intimate moments honestly stood out just as much as the steamy ones.

I also liked how the story balances drama with genuine character growth. There are conflicts and misunderstandings that feel real rather than forced, and it made me even more invested in seeing how everything would resolve. By the end, I was completely rooting for them and felt like their journey was earned.

Overall, it’s such an addictive, emotional, and super engaging read. If you’re into romance that brings both heat and heart—with a bit of angst and a lot of chemistry—this one definitely delivers and is so worth picking up.

It all starts with curiosity, a need to escape the boundaries circled around Stella by her controlling and emotionally abusive, abrasive parents. A visit to the sex club where she meets Tate, a man with inner demons, a man with deviant tastes, the man who could deliver her needs and desires.
A threat to her family places strong restrictions and a bodyguard..Tate. Their relationship develops and he is supportive and encouraging of her professional dreams as a designer. The complete opposite of her dismissive family. Tensions run high for many reasons. Loved the interaction between him and her father regarding investment in her business.
The author is a queen of delivering the life of kink and relationship, opposites attract, protective and sexual males, for strong willed independent women who actively choose submissive in the bedroom. In view of all the resistance between Stella and her parents towards her trust fund and her choice of career, it was good to see her success come to the fore. I felt it lacked the bite of actually hitting her parents and brother fairly and squarely in the face. There was nothing to indicate or describe having to publicly recognise the success, especially as a prominent client ran in her mother's circles..didn't like her parents and I like to see the bad guys having to apologise or get their comeuppance.

Stella (FMC) has always been the “good girl” and followed the rules her parents laid out for her. She’s finally had enough and wants to live her life so she goes with a friend to a sex club. Tate (MMC) sees her from across the club and is instantly interested. He’s not interested in a relationship at all. Until Stella peaks his curiosity. Just temporary partners at the club. Until Stella. They share 1 night where he introduces her to so many things she’s secretly wished for. And it blows her mind. It blows Tate’s mind. They shared something magical. And she knows that she will want more while unable to have more, so she sneaks away when he’s preparing for aftercare. Knowing a quick exit is the best bet for both of them.

Stella’s father is receiving threats directed towards Stella, so her prosecutor father hires a security company to provide protection for his daughter, and guess who her new bodyguard is?!? YOU GUESSED IT! It’s Tate. Shocked isn’t the right word for either of them. But he knows he’s the man for the job. She stuck in his brain. She got under his skin.

They try and fight the attraction between the two of them. Tate gives a valiant effort knowing he could lose everything and hurt Stella as well. Tensions are high and they both break. More than once. And all the while Tate is protecting her, he’s also helping her shed her “good girl” persona box she no longer fit in. He believes in her when her family doesn’t. Her family is a bunch of jack asses to be honest.

Things happen. Stella is in danger and Tate comes to her rescue. Family gets a wake up call. I want to punch a few of the family members a few times.

Happily ever after. They are meant to be. And Stella flourishes under Tate’s love and attention. They continue to explore all the fun, sexy kinks between the 2 of them. They are building a life together.

Great book. Definitely recommend.

This was so much fun! Stella and Tate had off-the-charts chemistry, and this book dives right into things… given how they meet, it was a very hot start! Both of them accepting they'll never see each other again, it's pretty shocking when Tate shows up to be Stella's bodyguard after her family starts receiving death threats. Tate knows he should not accept the job, but he also knows he's the best man for it so they're stuck together for the foreseeable future and that's where things really take off!

This was such a delicious, forbidden, forced proximity romance! Stella is the good girl and Tate being the ex-military bodyguard who has more experience in life and... other things(!) is definitely more of a bad boy. He is so patient with her though and truly listens to her. Tate sees Stella for more than just a young girl with silly dreams, unlike her family ughh. I loved that he took her seriously and helped her with her business, and remembered all the little things throughout the book. Of course the tension that built from the beginning is still there and they have to figure out how to come to terms with that. The author did a great job making me want to keep turning the page to find out what was coming next. Throw in a bit of a mystery and I was hooked!

Amazing love story! I love Stella and Tate. They have a powerful, very sexy and off the charts connection, but an incredible amount of personal baggage to deal with that makes Tate doubt they are good for each other. I found these characters to be so relatable that I became an instant fan from their first encounter at The Players Club.

The mystery of who is threatening Stella is an engaging and dramatic story line. I like how it takes time to figure out who the culprit is, giving Tate and Stella an opportunity to get to know and understand each other. The scene where Tate confronts Stella's parents about her "angel investor" is one of my favorite scenes in the book. He doesn't hold back his feelings about Stella's business plan. As the investigation is too slow of a pace for Tate and Stella's liking, tensions rise and things are said that it sends Tate into a determined mode to find the person responsible for keeping Stella under her parents' roof. It is a race to find out if Stella will be able to fulfill her dreams or succumb to the threat that holds her hostage.

Completely engrossing and exciting book that comes highly recommended.

I love Playing With Surrender by Erika Wilde! This is Book 3 from her Players Club Sinners series and it was a rollercoaster ride of emotions. I went from mad and sad to hopeful and happy, heart break to heart warming, and best of all, I blushed through most of the intimate scenes. Oof! Fan-freaking-tastic! And the suspense Erika writes into her stories always keep me on the edge of my seat!

I love that Stella is written as a character who although has been suppressed most of her life, has been bucking against her parents’ will all along. And once Tate comes into her life, she finds strength in his presence and comes into her own. She’s so tough, she makes me proud. I love her tenacity!

He thinks he’s dark, depraved and broken, and not good enough for Stella. Their attraction is instant. Fighting it was futile. I loved that they fed off each other to empower the other to do things they wouldn’t have done on their own, and to be better.

Along the way, we get mentions of characters from previous books, but don’t worry, if you haven’t read those yet, you won’t be lost. But after reading this, you’ll want to go back and catch up!

Thank you Erika Wilde and The Author Agency for this ARC. The above is my own and personal opinion.

Playing with Surrender is the third story in the Players Club Sinners series. It is a well-written romance story and was hard to put down.

Stella longs to make her dreams of being a fashion designer come true. Her parents do not support her career choice and want her to make something of herself. They are a wealthy family. Stella gets an invite to the Players Club from her friend and decides to do something for herself. The man she meets there excites her and gives her a night she won't forget. She leaves knowing that it was only for one night.

Tate enjoyed the connection he had with Stella and hated that she left the club. He wanted more time with her. When a threat comes to Stella's family, Tate is assigned for her protection. He goes to the family home and is surprised to see that the woman he will be protecting is the same one from the club. He is being forced to put aside his personal feelings in order to be her bodyguard. What will happen to them the longer they are together?

I loved the instant chemistry between Stella and Tate. I loved how strong she was and wanted to make her dreams come true. I loved how she and Tate were so good together. I look forward to the next story from this talented author.

Thank you to the author for the advanced copy.

The Chase and the Catch

I like Stella Hayward a lot. She's talented, kind and caring, and a good and loyal friend. The instant chemistry with Tate Holland nearly scorched my e-reader. 📱🔥 I mean, the book could've ended with that opening club visit, and I... would've clamored for more. Yeah, sure. Fine. But it was still incredibly hot!

I’m not asking you to be perfect. I’m asking you to be mine.
-- Stella Hayward

When they aren't being doofusses, I love them together. They each have family drama that's impacted them negatively. I love how they listen and don't judge. The quiet strength and understanding they offer each other is sweet and makes me want to squeeze them both.

Can I just say the number of times I wanted to throttle her parents.... Ugh! They need super serious kicks in the keister! I hate how they treat their kids - one propped up like he is God's gift and the other put down like she's an imbecile. Sexism is alive and strong with those people. 🤮

Back to the good stuff. For a scene that's as equally hot as the opener, I HIGHLY recommend the bonus epilogue. It's got art and a fantastic primal scene.

PLAYING WITH SURRENDER is Book 3 of 4 in the PLAYERS CLUB SINNERS series by Erika Wilde. After a steamy encounter at The Players Club, Stella Hayward discovers that her new bodyguard, Tate Holland, is the same stranger who introduced her to surrender and danger. While forced to moved back under her parent’s roof for her safety, Stella, fights for hold onto her independence and recognition of her abilities as a clothing designer. This is a spicy, open door first person, dual POV, contemporary romantic suspense with tropes including one night stand, bodyguard romance, forced proximity, opposites attract, alpha male/dominant hero, protective hero, forbidden love, BDSM, and primal play. This was a quick, easy read that was emotionally charged and with high levels of spicy tension. I enjoyed the push and pull dynamic of their relationship and Stella’s metamorphosis into a strong woman who was no longer under her parents’ thumb. Both Stella and Tate grew during this novel to become better versions of themselves, better for the support and acceptance they gave each other. I enjoyed reading their story and recommend it for readers who enjoy spicy romantic suspense novels about bodyguards.
