Bully to Slave: Here Comes the Bully

Rate this book
It has been some time since Ralston, the campus bully, failed to show up during their last exam. No one knew – and cared - why he disappeared. Until now...

The summer before Toby went off to college, his dad gave him a present – a slave. It must have been a twist of fate, for the slave happened to be Ralston.

Looks like Toby was going to have a very interesting summer…

SAMPLE:

Toby almost bounced across the student car-park despite carrying a heavy box. Today was the end of school, period. He now had three months for fun until he went off to Stanford for another four years of education. The box contained all his books, sports gear and the detritus of seven years of locker content. He dumped it in his trunk and locked it before walking round to the front of the school where all his graduating class were sat and stood around on the entrance steps discussing the programme for that night’s party.

“Anyone know what happened to Ralston?”

“No, and who cares?”

“Weird though that he disappeared after the last exam.”

“Probably went on a bender and hasn’t surfaced yet.”

“Man, if he’s been on a bender for a whole month he must be totally wasted.”

Everybody laughed, but Ralston was not the most popular guy in the graduating class, so no one was really worried. Toby particularly was pleased to see the less of him. He may have been the premier jock with a body to die for, but he was a shit.

Horribly written, no build up of the behavior of the bully which would help the reader understand and relate to the protagonist, it’s like stepping into the book halfway though. Also carries a not so slight tinge of racism throughout.
