Julia Levington, an independently minded young woman, longs to break from social constraints and make a life of her own choosing. Trapped by her family’s wealth and expectations, her life at the turn of the nineteenth century is oppressive and stifling. Her parents are determined to see her married to a Roman Catholic of their choosing, though to her a loveless society wedding is abhorrent.
