How many times will Tara swipe right before realizing her perfect lover is already in her bed?
Jared might be stuck in an unfulfilling job, but he knows what he wants to be doing. He also knows who he wants to be with -- Tara, a.k.a. The Goth Girl Next Door he’s fantasized about for years. He’s not bothered by their age difference, but everyone else seems to be. Tara thinks he’s just a plaything, his brother thinks she’s a witch, and his parents think she’s trouble.
Jared thinks she’s perfect.
Tara loves her job as a sex streamer, but since she’s been single the past few years, she’s tired of flying solo. Then she teams up with her zygote-of-a-neighbor, and her tips soar. So does her pleasure, yet she keeps swiping the apps, searching for a mature, responsible LTR-worthy man.
Jared’s convinced he’s everything she needs, but can they keep their relationship hot without their passion self-destructing?
Sideswiped is one of those books that reminds you exactly why romantic comedy romance is such a joy. It’s funny, flirty, properly spicy, and effortlessly bingeable—light-hearted on the surface, but with enough emotional bite to keep things interesting.
Tara is a brilliant FMC. She presents as confident, outgoing, and very comfortable in her own skin, but beneath that is someone still nursing the fallout from a past relationship that left its mark. That unresolved hurt plays a huge role in how she approaches Jared, and it makes her reactions—however frustrating at times—feel authentic rather than contrived.
Jared is the definition of the underestimated younger man. He’s been fixated on Tara since childhood, but now he’s grown into someone intelligent, capable, and emotionally grounded. Unfortunately, his family hasn’t quite caught up, still treating him like he needs looking after, which only fuels his need to be taken seriously—especially by Tara. His patience, loyalty, and quiet confidence make him incredibly easy to root for.
The 15-year age gap is central to the tension and handled thoughtfully. Tara is undeniably drawn to Jared, but she can’t shake her discomfort with the difference in age—nor the fact that he reminds her of the ex who shattered her heart. That association makes her doubt both Jared and herself, convincing her that what they share can’t possibly be real or lasting. Jared, meanwhile, is emotionally all-in, while Tara keeps insisting their connection is temporary fun, stubbornly refusing to acknowledge the depth of what’s developing between them.
One of the more daring elements of the story—Tara earning money through live-streaming her sexual encounters—is handled with confidence and humour. It never feels gratuitous or judgmental, and Jared’s enthusiastic participation only adds to their chemistry and the book’s unapologetically sex-positive tone.
The supporting cast is equally engaging, and I loved getting glimpses of what’s to come with Tara’s sister Allie and Jared’s brother Dane—best friends, obvious chemistry, and clearly a slow-burn waiting to happen. I’m very much looking forward to Sidetracked, which runs parallel to this story and promises more of the same sharp banter and emotional payoff.
Warm, sexy, funny, and surprisingly heartfelt, Sideswiped is a hugely enjoyable read that earns every one of its five stars.
Loved Sidetracked so much that I had to read Sideswiped too. Jared and Tara are such different people but the romance comes together so beautifully. There’s passion and fun but they have their hurdles to overcome and I was totally invested in how it turned out. I love Juice and the extra element that they add to the story. Totally different to the other half of the duet but with familiar characters. I did read book 2 first but I don’t think it spoiled anything I just knew how the side story ends. Will be waiting with bated breath for more by Cassidy
This was a good sweet romances. There was some spice. There is an age gap between them. I liked seeing their siblings reactions to them being together.
Steamy scenes with fully developed characters that you are rooting for from the jump. The age gap isn't a big deal (I'm not big on age-gap romances), but it adds a small dash of spice. Again, these characters are three-dimensional, so the romance and sexy stuff make sense and aren't just gratuitous. I did love the side story of Allie and Dane...I dove right into Sidetracked right away.
Whip-smart writing. Eyelash-singe-worthy love scenes. Characters you root for and love from page one to the very last page. Oh?!? Is that not enough? How about room at the end for a sequel? If you’re ready for book-n-blanket weather, I have the perfect steamy AF romcom to get the season started right! Cassidy Lish’s Sideswiped kept me up waaayyy past my bedtime for a couple nights, but it was all worth it to see Tara and Jared finally find why they are perfect together. I love, love, love a good reverse age gap romance and this one did not disappoint! Tara was a fascinating character with her goth vibe, and the backstory to how she and Jared met was killing me with “Stacey’s Mom” vibes. I’m not a newbie to Cassidy Lish’s writing, and am a huge fan of the “Everyday Encounters” series. Sideswiped did not disappoint…it has the sharp, craftful writing I expected from Lish, along with characters who are well developed in every sense of the word. And, the plot had just enough intrigue and surprises to give it moxie beyond just your regular romcom. I haven’t read any romcoms in a while and this book is the reason I’m giving myself a treat and returning to the genre. (I’ll probably begin with Paging Dr. Dirty, or something similar…wink, wink.)
I would highly recommend that before you get all into your holiday reading era, you grab a copy of Sideswiped.
