Voordat ik loslaat (Timeless Book 2)

Rate this book

In a Nutshell: A worthy second book in the Timeless series. The focus is slightly more on romance this time around, which is why it didn’t work as well as the first book for me. But it’s still an imaginative work. Better if read in order, though this can be tried as a standalone.

Story Synopsis:
Thanks to her time-crossing parents. Maggie is born with the special ability of living three lives simultaneously – in 1861, 1941, and 2001. Each night, when she goes to sleep in one period, she wakes up in the next one, without losing any time in the earlier life.
In 1861, the country lies at the brink of the Civil War and Maggie is forced to assist her senator dad at hosting parties rather than help the wounded soldiers.
In 1941, she is a naval nurse, struggling with her knowledge of what’s going to happen in Pearl Harbor at the end of the year.
In 2001, she is an overachieving medical student, trying to fulfil her dream of becoming a surgeon at least in one timeline.
Maggie knows that once she turns twenty-one, she will have to choose one of these lives, forfeiting the other two forever. But with beloved ones, plenty of medical challenges, and a romantic interest in each life, how on earth is Maggie to choose?
The story comes to us in the first person perspective of Maggie.

I had been blown away by ‘When the Day Comes’, the first book of this series, when I read it in May last year and spent the whole year waiting for this sequel. While it didn’t work as well as the first one for me, I still enjoyed it tremendously.

Bookish Yays:
😍 Yet again, the author’s imagination won me over. Three physical bodies, one unified mind? A girl who can live simultaneous lives in three distinct times? And we the readers can read this without any difficulty in accepting the complicated concept because there seem to be no loopholes in logic? And nothing feels exaggerated in the time-slip aspects? What impressive creativity and writing!

😍 Imagine writing three historical timelines with perfect attention to detail in each. All the three years of Maggie’s time-crossing life come alive in terms of their atmosphere and character detailing. Brava, author! Loved the historical research and accuracy.

😍 Luckily for me, this time around, I was far better equipped with the historical knowledge needed to grasp the plot better, because the American Civil War, WWII & Pearl Harbor, and 9/11 are all events I know pretty well about. So the historical content was easier for me to comprehend. (This of course won’t be an issue for US readers.)

😍 Maggie is quite intent on being a healer, and this manifests well in all three timelines, despite the vast difference in their medical knowhow. Her struggles on using the knowledge from the modern timelines in the historical ones come out well. Through Maggie’s medical interests, the book also highlights how the role of women changed in the field of medicine over the years.

😍 The book covers multiple genres, though it is a historical fiction at heart. The timeslip elements bring in a sort of magical realism to the flow, and there’s also romance. Mixed genre books are always more fun to read.

😍 The book is also marked as ‘Christian Fiction’, and this shows in the regular faith-based thoughts that Maggie has when she asks for divine guidance in helping her choose the right timeline, and also when she tries to understand why God isn’t giving her what she most wants. Though the faith elements were greater in intensity this time, I appreciate how they were genuinely interwoven into the plot as a moral compass for Maggie rather than being too preachy or simply throwing in biblical verses in the plot.
(That said, I feel I should point out that there are many romantic kissing scenes between unmarried couples in this book, which some Christian readers don’t prefer in this genre. I was okay with these; they were not vulgar at least to my eyes.)

😍 Despite the length of the book, it is quite fast-paced and contains very little rambling. I didn’t feel like I was reading a 410+ page book at all.

😍 There were some interesting secondary characters in the story, though they don’t get much page space because of the extensiveness of Maggie’s three lives. It was nice to see Libby and her family getting some focus. Of the three love interests, two are written well.

😍 The ending is amazing. I love how the author manages to tie everything together neatly despite there being so many complicated subparts in each tale.
(Also, I did NOT see that ending coming! Is it indicating a possible continuation to the series? I sure hope so!)

😍 Don’t miss the author’s note at the end, detailing the factual elements of the plot and where she took liberty with the facts. I adore authors making such efforts to present to us a clear picture of the accuracy of the historical content.

Bookish Nays:
😕 Unlike in the first book, the stories across the timelines seemed quite similar. Maggie’s social and financial status is the same in all three, as is her interest in medicine. All three years have characters somehow connected to politics and other topics of national interest. All three have a man entering Maggie’s life on the same day, with her spending a great deal of the book wondering whom she likes best. In other words, though the historical situation was vastly different, the basic plot across the three years felt the same. This was the biggest reason why this sequel didn’t work for me as much as the first one did, because the first had not only two distinct time periods (with no overlap of themes) but also distinct financial situations. (Libby being wealthy in one and poor in the other.)

😕 Again, unlike the first book, romance gets the central focus this time, with Maggie’s interest in medicine coming a close second. I would have preferred it the other way around, though readers who enjoy romance stories will enjoy the love triangle. (Or should it be called “love quadrilateral” because there are three guys and one girl?)

😕 Unlike Libby in the first book, Maggie has a confident go-getter personality. But she still didn’t endear me as much as Libby did, partly because of how confused she was over the three guys, and partly because her track didn’t have multiple layers. It was just love and medicine. The themes were better explored in the first book.

😕 I didn’t understand why Maggie’s parents in the 2001 timeline, who are modern in every other way, were so insistent on seeing her in a relationship. She was just twenty! This angle made sense in the other two timelines, but not for 2001.

😕 The writing gets a bit repetitive at times because of Maggie’s first person thoughts delving on the same issues again and again.
(Three of my points of criticism come from comparison. So I guess I would have enjoyed this sequel better had I not sought to replicate the high I had after reading Timeless #1.)

All in all, I did enjoy this book a lot, but I guess the first one was so exceptional that this sequel, while brilliant, felt a little bit short. Nevertheless, it is still a fine example of creative writing and historical research working in a harmonious blend. If there is indeed a third book, I am definitely on board!

Though this book can be read as a standalone, it will be far better if you read the series in order, as the details of time-crossing are better explained in the first book.

3.75 stars.

I didn't thinks she could top when the day comes but Gabrielle Meyer just blew my exceptions out of the water.

First things first, You HAVE to read When the Day Comes first, no exceptions. Secondly, because I think this book is best gone into blind I wont be talking much about the plot because you deserve to go in FRESH.

This is a book that delves through multiple important but tragic time periods in history. The time traveling concept felt just as unique as it did in the first book but just got better. I was absolutely invested in SO many of these characters, and anxious that everything would not come together as I hoped it would.

As much as I worried and over analyzed and changed who I wanted Maggie to end up with... I think everything resolved itself EXACTLY as it ought to have! I don't think i've had this much anxiety over possible relationships since Daughter of the Moon Goddess, BUT the end game is so very worth it.

This is a book about faith, and as much of us can't relate to time travel crisis' I think the parallels to life in general remain true. Sometimes we want SO badly for God to lead us down a path when he wants us to have faith in our own power to move towards our destiny and take those first steps. I think faith in the process is sometimes the hardest type of faith to have.

This story is a beautiful journey of discovery of what makes us US and how God plays into each of our stories...AND of course there is a lot of love...romantic and familial along the way. I swooned, I cried, and I felt very connected to Maggies story and her romantic possibilities. Once again...so freaking good, I absolutely devoured this.

*just kisses, traumatic historical events occur but not described in detail.

I definitely enjoyed When the Day Comes more but this took me on a ride and I’m glad I read it!

The 3 timelines got me plus each timeline was more about the historical event than the romance (imo) so I found myself skimming the descriptions often.

I had every theory I could think to try to guess which timeline she was going to pick.

This one has only kissing and nothing further. Great faith content that I related to.

Finished before 3am.

“I’m so used to uncovering selfishness and betrayal. I almost don’t know what to do with sacrifice and hope.”
"You can hold it close,” I told him, “just as I am trying to do.”

Listen, I'm not a huge fan of time slips. I just don't love being jarred from time period to time period. I almost didn't request this book, because who wants to be jarred in THREE directions? Not to mention the love square.

But it just goes to show that even those ingredients that I generally don't love can still create a compelling story in the hands of the right author. I really didn't know what or how Meg/Maggie would choose which era to stay in, because she loved all three of them and had meaningful work and relationships in all.
There's some lines about following your heart that I think could be misconstrued out of context. In this case, she prayed for guidance first and foremost, and the Lord really did seem to be letting her make the decision, like there was no wrong answer, spiritually speaking. So in those cases, how do you make such a life changing decision? I think we've all been there - and then in hindsight you can see how God did answer and lead you to the final choice. In the end, the question was answered and the choice obvious.
Loved the plot twist halfway through. This author's writing and unique stories result in books I just can't put down.

I read a copy provided by the publisher and Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

In This Moment by Gabrielle Meyer – 5 big stars! WOW. Another favorite book of 2023 for me! This Timeless series is one of my favorite series of ALL time. I just love the uniqueness of the story, the time travel element, our characters and the faith content throughout. If you haven’t read book 1, When the Day Comes, please do!

In book 2, we follow Maggie who inherited the time-crossing gene from her parents. Maggie lives 3 separate lives in 1861, 1941 and 2001. In her 1861 path, Maggie is the daughter of a senator during the onset of the Civil War. In 1941, she is a Navy nurse on the brink of World War II. And in 2001, she is a medical student, working to become a surgeon. We all know as the reader what she is about to endure in 2001 – yet she does not. The decisions she must make about which path to choose – with love interests in each time, who does she truly love? With her time-crossing parents and her sister in 1941, how could she leave them behind by choosing another path? And which career decision does she want more for her life? The decisions she has to make will be the toughest yet……We follow Maggie in her journey through all 3 time paths and wonder how the Lord will lead her in her decisions….

Ya’ll, this book was AMAZING. I don’t know how to even describe how much I love this series. If you love a good time travel story with a strong romance and family – this series is it! I loved the romance in this story – I could see which romance was going to be her strongest, but each time period had so much importance for Maggie. I don’t know how you can choose what to do. I love how this story helps us see how easily sometimes God chooses for us and leads you to what you should do. I love all of the history surrounding the war and we get to see big historical figures like the Lincolns and it’s just so unique!

I also loved the plot twist in the middle – I was shocked! Did not see that coming at all. Gabrielle Meyer’s series has just blown me away and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series – because after that epilogue, I AM SO HERE FOR IT! Thank you to Baker Publishing, Bethany House and NetGalley for a copy to honestly read and review.

This is a beautifully written, entertaining, historical fiction time travel novel. It has three diverse timelines, a likable and intelligent female protagonist, romance, faith, unexpected twists, and a gratifying conclusion. This is the second entry in Ms. Meyer's fabulous Timeless series, and it can be read as a stand alone, but it is even more enjoyable when it is read in order. The author's historical note is enlightening, and has piqued my interest in learning more about the historical figures featured in this novel. I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator, Ms. Rachel Botchan, does a wonderful job voicing the characters. I am looking forward to reading the other entries in this series with great anticipation.

An intriguing tale of time travel, romance, and history!

I found Maggie to be a sympathetic main character who drew me into In This Moment. I enjoyed her sister Anna and her parents (the 1941 ones and her 1861 father especially). I did struggle with her three love interests a bit, but some of them grew on me and others disappointed me. I would've liked Zechariah (the 1941 love interest) better if he hadn't been a love interest. I just don't like the whole age gap trope, especially given that Maggie was so young.

The plot kept my attention, and I loved the time crossing parts. I also liked how the Civil War part of the story was handled. Gabrielle Meyer didn't focus on the angle so many authors of Civil War fiction do. I appreciated that she kept both the romance and the language clean, and I was glad that Maggie acknowledged the complications and dangers of having three different love interests spread throughout history. I didn't agree with some of the advice Maggie received from her father on falling in love though.

Overall, In This Moment was an engaging read that I'd recommend to those who enjoy Christian fiction, historical romance, and time travel novels. I'm looking forward to reading the third book in this series!

Fantastic sequel!!! And we get 3 timelines instead of 2?! Early on, I was so sure about which time and man Maggie would choose and where she belonged, but then I changed my mind and wasn't sure how it would end. I love that the author is able to keep me guessing for most of these books. So many shocking things happened that I didn't see coming!! I can't wait to read book 3!

Well, I’m exhausted. Breathless with historical romance reader joy, but exhausted.

The heroines in this series must have been gifted, besides their time-crossing ability, with an extra-capacity mental load. Three pre-war timelines? I myself can barely handle one generally-peaceable one. I would at least rotate an all-day nap day in between the three. And this is why I happily lack in main character energy: very little in the way of the unrelenting drive these women have in spades.

Remind me to never complain about decision fatigue again. One way I do completely relate is in prayerfully pleading “Just Tell Me What To Do and Put Me Out of My Overthinker Misery” and then complaining when I’m being nudged one way or the other. God’s children, we really are marvelous creatures. The themes of faith and trust in divine providence were woven to be both searing and comforting.

I’d like it acknowledged that I willingly put myself through some serious love-triangle uncertainty torture because I am all-in with this series. I will admit to some faithless mumbling, but deep breaths and several breathers got me through placing my trust in that, in the end, all would be as it should be, and all affected parties would receive their due. You know you have some PTLTSD (Post Traumatic Love Triangle Stress Disorder)when you’re bracing for impact right into the epilogue. So I’m still smarting a little, but I am at peace. HEA was secure and swoony; Ms. Meyer pulled it off.

And speaking of author over-achieving, the historical parallels had me as giddy as Mrs. Lincoln with a new gown. What a feat of research and seamless context. Can we normalize mentioning when an author has stand-out Author’s Notes? So indulgently fascinating.

I shall continue on in this series, not reading blurbs, guessing everything wrong, giving my poor nerves a workout, and being so happy I read historical romance.

Content notes: Kissing Only, growing feelings for more than one hero, death of parent, mention of depression, on page war-violence all non-graphic. Mention of infertility. Predominant themes of Christian faith.

A time-travelling adventure with timeless appeal. Deftly weaving multiple storylines, Gabrielle Meyer has given us three equally well-drawn dramas revolving around pivot points in three centuries of American history. Full of love, courage, and the agony of choice, this fascinating story is sure to keep you up past your bedtime.

I went into this pretty much knowing I would give it five stars! I absolutely loved When the Day Comes; it was my favorite book of 2022!! I’ve been waiting for this book for a year now, and I can honestly say it was worth the wait!! 😍 I loved this book just as much as book one, if not more!! Maggie is a doll! I loved seeing her work through her struggles in all three timelines!! I loved them all so much! I didn’t know which she was gonna pick, because there were so many good reasons to stay in each one! I loved the guys as well! It took me a while to pick a favorite, but I finally did!😅 (I actually think he was my favorite from the beginning, but I didn’t want to become too attached until she made her decision😅) I loved this book so so much, and I am super excited for book three!😍🥰

Content warnings: Maggie is a Dr or nurse in all three of her timelines, so there is a bit of blood and gore with surgeries and stuff like that.
This book takes place in the American Civil War as well as World War II so there is plenty of war violence; including seeing The Battle of Bull Run and Pearl Harbor from Maggie’s eyes.
This also takes place in 2001 so you do eventually see 9/11 as well.

This book was incredible.

Though it follows the same structure as When the Day Comes , it succeeds in becoming its own unique story. It felt completely fresh, with plenty of twists and turns that kept me turning the pages! The creativity and ability to create a story with three distinct timelines without getting them muddled is incredible.

All three timelines were fascinating to see through the eyes of Maggie, especially regarding medicine. The history of medicine is one of my favorite things to study, so I liked getting to see a first-person perspective of the changes of women in medicine and just the development of medicine in general throughout the book. I really admired Maggie’s passion for helping people and using her skills, but also felt her struggle of having to hold back in order to keep history moving at the pace it should. The incorporation of faith and the themes of the sovereignty of God were beautiful too.
At some parts I did have reservations about multiple romances, but I thought the man she ended up with was perfect and I was hoping it would be him the entire time. I loved watching their relationship develop and thought it was very sweet to see.♡

It did not grab me quite as emotionally as When the Day Comes did. There were certainly a few moments with Maggie that had my throat tight, but none of them made me nearly as distraught as Libby’s story did. Which very well could be my fault for expecting the same emotional response for a different story. The stakes did not feel quite as high for Maggie as they did for Libby. Despite living in difficult periods of history and experiencing hardship, all three of Maggie’s lives were wonderful. I mourned with Maggie when losses did come, but not because I had any real attachment to those characters. I would have liked to see her relationships with her family members more because that would have made more emotionally invested.

There is so much more I want to say, but I won’t. You’ll want to go into this one knowing as little as possible and be taken on the journey with Maggie as it unfolds. I really did love this book and I hated when I had to put it down. I cannot wait for book 3 and for whatever else Gabrielle has planned for the future!

4.5 ⭐️

Oh my goodness, this book was such a wild ride—and I think I enjoyed it even more so than the first book, When the Day Comes. The three different timelines were easy to track with because of how the author made certain they were distinct, which I so appreciated.

I don’t think I’ve ever read a book where a girl has three men who are interested in her in three different times in history, and she has mutual interest too, before—and I have to say, I was so conflicted 😂 But after the first guy was eliminated, I was glad. But then I was torn between the other two. And then I was sold on who Maggie should choose and thank goodness she did, haha!

There were some unexpected plot twists and a lot more development with the concept of living in different time periods in this book than in the first, which was so neat to explore!

My only complaint with this book is that…it just doesn’t seem plausible that Maggie would never have accidentally used slang that wasn’t appropriate for the time periods she was in or unknowingly changed history due to her knowledge of past and present events, especially when she was growing up. Besides that, I really have no complaints. This book was super engaging, touching, and an exciting journey through history.

Thank you to NetGalley and the author for an eARC of In This Moment. A positive review was not required, only my honest opinion. All thoughts are expressly my own.

In This Moment was a great read, keeping me engaged the whole time. It was difficult to put down due to the "what is going to happen in life #". Even with the chapter changes, I never forgot or felt like I was hanging on to the previous chapter.
The MC had a lot of hard choices throughout the book and I think that the author handled addressing them perfectly.
I hope that ending means that there is going to be a third book.

5/5 Stars

This sequel to When the Day Comes follows Maggie, who time slips into 3 lives - 1861, 1941, and 2001. None of these are great times to be living through.

There were a few elements this book did better than the first - primarily that it was genuinely harder to guess which time she would choose. Whereas the first made it crystal clear which time she wanted to stay in (and therefore which one was clearly going to be the result, for drama’s sake) this book pitted each equally against each other.

However there were things it didn’t do as well. Many of the characters felt less fleshed out, maybe because she had less space to do so putting 3 stories in the same amount of pages. But each timeline has a certain romantic interest and particularly the 1941 romance felt very “tell don’t show” whereas the 2001 family felt paper thin because so much of the focus was on her friend and roommate. In 1861 the atmosphere of Civil War DC didn’t shine through in the same way Colonial Williamsburg had.

But we are already set up for another sequel with another interesting twist and I will be picking it up when it comes out.

I cannot say enough good things about this series. The author’s creativity is amazing, and so is her ability to layer a cohesive character across three timelines. Yes, THREE. Being born to time crossing parents and marked twice as a time crosser herself, Maggie must live three paths. This means that she basically lives the same day three times – one in 1861, one in 1941 and one in 2001. She is medically inclined in each time period, and I really enjoyed the layers this added to the plot.

In book one, the only similarity between Libby’s two paths was Libby herself. But with In This Moment, Maggie consistently faces the dilemma in 1861 and 1941 of what to do with the medical knowledge she has from being a med student in 2001. Is she changing history if she uses it? If so, she could forfeit a path before her 21st birthday (when she must choose a path to remain in for good), before she’s ready to do so. But how can she stand by and watch people die when she has the knowledge to help them? I loved how Meyer explores these issues raised by Maggie’s time crossing, from how it affects Maggie to how it affects her loved ones, too. In When the Day Comes there was a lot of emphasis on God’s sovereignty as it related to the time crossing, and while that is explored here as well the author also delves into the concept of free will. The perfect follow-up to the themes in book one.

I thought Libby had an agonizing choice to make in choosing which path to live in When the Day Comes, but it dims in comparison to Maggie’s. I honestly was not at all sure how things were going to play out and, unlike in When the Day Comes, I didn’t know how I wanted it to end, either. Until I did. But I was going right up to the wire along with Maggie and holding my breath on her behalf. There are some stunning twists in this book, things I didn’t see coming, and I’m just still marveling at the author’s ability to so masterfully craft this time crossing reality and create such compelling characters.

Bottom Line: In This Moment by Gabrielle Meyer is another masterpiece of fiction. The plot, the characters, the time crossing ‘rules’, the history, the faith themes – all of it holds you captive from beginning to end, hardly daring to breathe as you follow Maggie through her three paths. Romance abounds in each path, making my KissingBooks heart happy, and while it doesn’t overshadow the story it is a large part of her dilemma for which life to choose. I loved the character growth that Meyer takes Maggie through, both emotionally and spiritually, and I wanted to give another standing ovation in the last couple of chapters. The theme of sacrificial love has been strong in both books, and given the ending of this one I cannot wait to see where the author takes it in book three.

There is literally no good way to start a review for this book.  Like every other reviewer, I am struggling to even come up with adequate words to describe my experience with In This Moment in such a way that would convince someone else to read it.  Simply put - it is amazing!

Unless I'm mistaken, there's been very few time travel stories written within the Christian fiction genre.  (Maybe they are actually out there, and I'm just unaware.)   I feel like Gabrielle has hit an untapped market of readers by merging time travel and faith together into her Timeless series.  The combination of these two elements has provided me with some of the most page-turning reading time I've experienced in years, and I'm on board for all of it and more.  Those who love Outlander but long for it to be told through a Christian lens are the perfect audience for these stories.

I'm not going to reveal an iota about the plot - you can get all that info from the book blurb.  If I say more than that, I risk spoiling an incredible reading experience for a new reader, and with this series, I dare not breathe an extra word!  I will suggest that you read this series in order as this second story builds upon the first.

So how does this review end?  It ends with me telling you to find your way to Amazon, Google Books, Barnes & Noble, Christianbook.com, or any other bookseller to get your hands on these two books immediately!  Once you've read them (I promise, you'll be able to get nothing done until you do!), tell all your friends about them, too...just with no spoilers.  ;)  Without a doubt, you'll see why everything in the Timeless series earns a much-deserved 5 stars.

“Life is a gift and an adventure. We should never let fear hold us back from doing the things God has called us to do. The risk isn’t always in going, sometimes the risk is in staying and missing out on the journey.”― Gabrielle Meyer, In This Moment

Story: 5 stars.
Audio: 5 stars

I am enjoying this series so much. ‘Crossing’timelines to important American historical events is educational and entertaining. Meyer is very diligent in keeping the stories historically accurate, which as an avid history buff, I greatly appreciate. Th ‘time-crossing’ is, also, very well done and, dare I say, made plausible? I recommend this series to anyone interested in time travel and historical fiction novels.

I don't know if I can do this book justice with my review. I intended to only read a couple of chapters at first, but next thing I knew I was most of the way through it. Gabrielle Meyer managed to weave together all 3 timelines into a beautiful story. I felt all of the emotions as I read it. I even cried a few times, which is very rare! I couldn't be more pleased with the ending of this book. It is definitely one of the best books of 2023! I can't recommend it enough! Although, it must be read after the first one because of spoilers. I'm eagerly awaiting the next one!

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.

I'm learning really fast that if I want a book that is guarenteed to capture my attention and hold it to the end with just the right of romance paired with twists and turns that keep you guessing, Gabrielle Meyer is an author to reach for. This story had great characters and I enjoyed the three timelines. It was neat to have one of the timelines be one that I've lived through. This series model is so unique and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I was definitely cheering at the end (I may have had a moment of ... if this doesn't happen I'm not going to be happy.... and I closed the book happy). So curious what the next book will bring :)

*2024 Reread*: Still LOVE THIS, I always relate to Maggie so much, and the themes of God's perfect will are always next level along with some jaw-dropping plot twists. Plus, this book ends around Christmastime, making it the PERFECT read for this season!!❤ I'm so glad that this series keeps growing, and yes, *spoiler alert*, Gray is still GOALS.

What absolute fire!! 🔥 Y'all need to read it to get it, so please do!! I seriously don't know how I'm going to wait until next year for the finale. The world building and details just keep getting better and better! It was super clever how 1861, 1941, and 2001 were joined: three major turning points in American history woven into a suspenseful plot. I can't even imagine being a nurse, having an unusual wealth of knowledge due to extremely special circumstances, and having to carefully choose what to advise and what to hold back in order to not seriously alter history. Just- wow; mind blown. I really connected with Maggie's "fix-it" tendencies and her selfless desire to serve others first every time. Navigating balance in that can be a challenge, but the author really gave insight into caring for others and yourself simultaneously. The Christmas scenes towards the end also made me smile, and just seeing how God uses people as His hands and feet to create a beautiful ending through the eyes of these characters really filled me with JOY.
Aaand, can we please just take a moment to appreciate Gray? What a dream come true in a love interest. His perception, his selfless sacrificial love for Maggie, his sweet and gentle ways, and his total understanding and devotion to the many facets of Maggie's life were so enjoyable to read. Not to mention, his curly brown hair, and dark eyes... beyond perfect. 😋 Just read this book (and Book 1) and you'll understand why I'm gushing over this series!

Time Travel - Historical Fiction

“Life is a gift and an adventure. We should never let fear hold us back from doing the things God has called us to do. The risk isn’t always in going, sometimes the risk is in staying and missing out on the journey.”

In This Moment, main character Maggie has 3 paths set before her 1861, 1941, and 2001. When she goes to sleep in one, she wakes up in the next. As she has reasons to stay in each path, she much choose one before her 21st birthday, to stay in forever.

Love the rich history in these books! I feel like I’m switching time every time Maggie does. Having lived in 2001, it was easy to feel transported. While the historical aspect of this book is amazing, the romance was the main focus in this installment. Just when I thought I had it figured out and knew where she would stay, something would happen and it would totally shift gears. While this one did have my head spinning a bit in the beginning, I ended up really enjoying it the more I read. I became fully invested in each character. These books have a lot of hype , but personally I can see why. The author has done a fantastic job with this series, they are so unique and worth the read. I can’t imagine what she has in store next and look forward to the reading the rest of the series.

This creative exploration of time travel is fascinating and provides opportunity to consider a lot of interesting questions. This book in the series compares three crucial - and devastating- events occurring at different times in America's history, through the firsthand experience of the main character. Along the way, we get to compare and contrast the incidents while also pondering the pros and cons of knowing the future.

This was a very satisfying read over all. As a Christian novel, it fell flat for me. This is a case where I actually wish the author had stayed away from faith elements, because the "Christian" themes were more like Christian-ese. They sounded good but were ultimately pretty worldly platitudes like, "Follow your heart" and "Choose the person who is enough". Such flawed advice and not a good thematic purpose for a novel.

I adored the first book in this time travel series, and In This Moment did not disappoint. Maggie has inherited time travel from each of her parents and finds herself living three lives: 1861, 1941, and 2001. Each is a year marked by war, and each is filled with people she loves. But she knows on her 21st birthday, she has to decide where she will stay. It could be jarring to travel back and forth between three time periods, but because the story is told solely from Maggie's POV, I felt incredibly connected to her journey. I cared as she navigated the journeys and experienced challenges in each life. A compelling read with wonderful characters and depth. Highly recommend.

Ok, this was such a beautiful book! I will say it’s a 4.25⭐️ just because it doesn’t have the same novelty of book 1, but I love the faith content. And the man in here!! Y’all, he’s awesome. I adored seeing Maggie and her choices. It was heartbreaking but beautiful. And I did enjoy the last bit so much. Overall, I’d highly recommend after reading book 1

Edit: Ok, I’m going to be reading book 3 really soon, so could someone please comment and remind me of the epilogue of this book! Just maybe mark your comment with spoiler tags or read this before heading to the comment. Thanks!

What more can be said that hasn’t been said before in many glowing reviews… all of which I concur—this is a great series, masterfully conceived! And I loved the intertwining historical eras involved in this novel. 1861, 1941, 2001, each with their obvious connections, the beginning of the Civil War, Pearl Harbor, and 9/11.

Two books into this series though, I’m still a little confused, more like curious actually—and perhaps future novels will supply the answers. Is the time-crossing a result of some chrono-genetic defect as in The Time Traveler’s Wife, or has God’s Providence provided the ability to time jump in certain individuals for some purpose we don’t actually see? When a time-crosser finally chooses their path, their other self dies, but I don’t see that their lost life actually accomplishes anything. Maybe I’m reading too much into the story! Food for thought. Is Ms. Meyer leading us toward some eventual mind-blowing revelation about it all?! No matter what, the stories are great and I can’t wait to read more!

One more question… when did all this time-crossing begin—and with whom?! And have any great historical figures been time-crossers?! More food for thought.

Five stars! Easily!
