About the author

Imdadul Haq Milon (Bangla: ইমদাদুল হক মিলন) is a Bangladeshi novelist and editor of the daily Kaler Kantho. Milon graduated from Jagannath College. He went to Germany and after returning, wrote one of his premier works, Poradhinota. Milon authored books on classic stories, historical writings, romantic stories and other genres. He also works as a TV personality in a talk show called Ki Kotha Tahar Sone. He was honored with Bangla Academy Award in 1992.

'আয়না’ গ্রামের একজন সৎ নীতিবান স্কুল শিক্ষকের মেয়ে। প্রেম করে গ্রামের এক প্রভাবশালী যুবকের সঙ্গে। কিন্তু যুবক তাকে বিয়ে করতে অস্বীকার জানালে সে রাতের অন্ধকারে আত্মহত্যা করার প্রস্তুতি নেয়। আত্মহত্যার ঠিক আগ মুহূর্তে তাকে রক্ষা করে কবি (নায়কের নাম)। জানতে চায় আত্মহত্যার কারণ।

সবকিছু শুনে কবি তাকে পরামর্শ দেয়, প্রতিবাদস্বরূপ প্রেমিকের বাড়িতে গিয়ে অবস্থান ধর্মঘট করার। আয়না পরামর্শ মেনে নিয়ে শুরু করে অবস্থান ধর্মঘট। সেখানে কবিও উপস্থিত হন। এর মধ্যে কবির সততা আর ব্যক্তিত্ব দেখে আয়না দুর্বল হয়ে পড়ে কবির প্রতি। গল্প মোড় নেয় অন্যদিকে। তারপর...

এধরনের বই সচরাচর আমার পছন্দ হয় না। কিন্তু কোন এক অদ্ভুত কারণে আমার ভালো লেগে গেছে। উপভোগ করেছি পুরোদস্তুর। তাই রেটিংটা একটু অস্বাভাবিক লাগলেও আমার কাছে ঠিক আছে।

Among the contemporary writers in Bangla, few successful (!) writers are well known for selling garbages each year at the book fair. Imdadul Haq is definitely on top of that list of mine. I would never spend a single penny or invest much time to read their books. However, I spend a bit of time for the comic. They master no field in writing- plotting, character development, climax, ending; nothing.

Here is the amazing plot of this book:

Ayna is in love with Mijan. Mijan wants 5 lakhs taka as dowry even before their marriage to go to Italy. To protest this, Ayna plans to commit suicide in a garden in a moonlit night, where she meets the poet later on. The poet stops Ayna from committing suicide because she is quite wonderful to look at. Together they protest in front of Mijan's house with a hunger strike till death!
