I unhinged my jaw and swallowed this book whole. Another five-star banger, as if I expected anything less. This one felt so different from other books I’ve read by HB, which just proves again that this woman has serious range, she can truly do it all.👏🏻
The opening scene had me fucking gaggggeeddddd. That power dynamic? I was literally kicking my feet. The moment she pulled out the gun and straddled him, I said, “Oh, this is gonna be my motherfucking girl,” and SHE WAS. 🤭
This book was ridiculously hot. The tension was too damn good. The push and pull between these two is straight-up addicting, the chemistry is unreal. The way they’re going back-and-forth stealing orgasms from each other. FERALLL. Jessica steals a one from him so of course he has to steal one back while he’s driving his $3 million car. WOOF WOOF
I love a poor/rich dynamic, especially when the FMC is from the wrong side of the tracks. They’re always strong-willed baddies who don’t take shit from anyone. Jessica is playing hard to get and I was cheering her on because the harder she plays, the harder Kane falls and I was eating it up. MAKE HIM BEG FOR IT SIS WE LOVE TO SEE IT
Kane, Kane, Kane… let me tell you about my new obsession. This man radiates big dick energy. His expressions, the way he moves, the way he talks, the way he literally leans against a wall the control, the confidence. THE LIST GOES ON. And don’t even get me started on the fact that he races cars, has money, and is a total softy for his mom. Like, are you kidding?? The total package.
( he also has a couple nicknames for her which I love because why are we just settling for one?)
And the tropes?? Every single trope I love ( I’m a little rat for primal) AND we threw in a secret society? I was fully fed. I flew through this book. I was thinking about it all day. I couldn’t put it down and literally sped home just to finish it. I genuinely don’t know if I have the strength to wait for the next book. Besides the plot and the spice being literally immaculate, I just have to talk about how good the pacing felt for such a short book. I was invested from the third page. This is the definition of a binge worthy book.
Also, the side characters?? I’m digging every single one, and I’m already so intrigued by several of them. I need this to become a whole world. This might be one of my new favorite things. I LOVE IT HERE. Usually I take a minute to gather my thoughts and compose a put together review, but I hope you guys can tell from how chaotic this is that it’s just genuine natural excitement after JUST finishing it.😂😂

This was fast paced, read with TENSION. I love these main characters and their dynamic.
I was hooked on chapter 1 and gobbled this book up in one go in the middle of the night. When a book starts like that, it promises to be fun. and it was!
I can't wait for book 2. I need to know where this is going and I need a specific person to suffer. A lot!

I liked the pace of the book. I would say it's fast-paced, but not rushed! It keeps you turning the page and has you hooked.
I'd also say this book is character-driven. Let's dive into the characters. The FMC is called Jessica, and she is from the poor side of town; her mother is dying from cancer, and her dad is always drunk. Her brother keeps trying to race to bring home money, but he keeps losing because he's racing the rich boys from the other side of town. Jessica has a younger sister, who is more innocent and pure. I liked Jessica's character. She carries a lot of weight on her shoulders, weight she shouldn't have to carry. She is ballsy and does what needs to be done. I freaking loved that she pulled a power move. You usually see these power plays go the other way, and so I loved it! I was cheerleading in my head for her.
Kane, at first he comes across as a dominant, sexy, rich boy who has everything under his control. Which is appealing, don't get me wrong, but then seeing how Jessica handled him was hot. As the book goes on, you see that Kane also has a lot of weight on his shoulders. So does his twin brother Cash. I liked Kane's character, I liked the cocky swagger he had, the way he kept texting Jessica, and came to claim the orgasm he was owed when she left him on read.
The setting of the book was, I guess, something many people can relate to in a way that no matter what town you live in, there are the richer areas and the poorer areas. Makes it all the more realistic in your mind.
This is a Harleigh Beck book, so of course, I liked the writing style. She has a way of writing that immerses you. Everything else fades into the background, and it's just you and the book. I pretty much always ended up claiming a new book boyfriend, too. We will now add Kane to my list. This is getting serious now...my list of book boyfriends has to be heading towards triple figures lol.
Overall, I loved this book. I was hooked from page one. I read this in one sitting and would like to go back and read it again!
Do I recommend this book? Heck YES.
It will make you laugh, and probably make you get butterflies. Kane can wink at me and call me princess any day, but when he called her baby! I was gone...swooning...kicking my feet the lot!

Honestly, probably one of the easiest 5⭐️ that I have read and it’s no surprise that it was written by Harleigh Beck. She can do no wrong 😌( and I will fight you on that idc) this book was filled with deliciousssss tension and angst and is building up for an incredible and deeper storyline that I CANNOT wait to continue! Right in chapter 2 I was completely sucked into what this story was unfolding. I am LOVING the FMC Jessica, because let’s be honest, she is living out our wildest fantasies 🤭 Kane I can already tell is going to make my list of top book boyfriends. The way this book ended I already know that I am going to fall in love with him and pieces of my heart are going to be breaking for him and what he has to do and go through. If this is how book ONE starts off then I can only imagine that the rest of this series is going to FIRE! 🔥 I need the rest of their story like I need air. PLEASE DONT KEEP ME WAITING QUEEN!

Jessica is a great FMC who, after playing with fire and catching the attention of the arrogant and dangerous Kane, holds her own against him. Speaking of, this is one MMC I know I won’t be able to get out of my mind for a long time.. dark, damaged, and delicious is my favourite combo, and his filthy mouth had even me blushing.
My only gripe? I wanted more. At just a couple hours of reading time, everything moves fast and I’d have loved a little more build-up in parts. But honestly? The quick pace makes it the perfect “one-sitting, feral vibe” read.
It’s fast. It’s furious. It’s filthy.
And I already need book two yesterday.

This was a short read that packed a punch and leaves the reader begging for the next installment.
Blackmoor is a town that is separated into 2 distinct districts. Northside is known as The Falls and is home to the less fortunate. Southside is known as The Heights and that's where you'll find the mansions and pool side parties. Dark Lanes is kinda the middle area where both sides meet up for illegal street racing..in the name of money and pride.
The Dark Lanes series promises to delve into different couples with a HEA for each. Books 1 and 2 will be centered around our first couple, Jessica and Kane. You can definitely see a lot of character development for some of the side characters as well, which will set us up for the future books. All of the characters were interesting and have me super curious for what's to come.
Jessica and Kane have a great dynamic. She's the poor girl from Northside and Kane appears to be a rich boy without a care in the world. When they find themselves alone together, there's always power games involved, creating lots of chemistry and steam.
I really liked Jessica's character. Right from the very beginning, she came off as tough but obviously cares deeply for those in her life.
Kane was a bit of an enigma at first. I ended up really liking him as well but looks were very deceiving, when it came to just exactly who he was and what he was going through.
The romantic aspect gave me Romeo and Juliet vibes. 2 people from different worlds on a collision course due to their relationship being forbidden by both families. If you like Fast and the Furious, you'll definitely enjoy the street racing, which plays a part in the storyline as well.
This book ended on a massive cliffhanger and I'm looking forward to the release of book 2.

Kane was a bit of an enigma at first. I ended up really liking him as well but looks were very deceiving, when it came to just exactly who he was and what he was going through.
The romantic aspect gave me Romeo and Juliet vibes. 2 people from different worlds on a collision course due to their relationship being forbidden by both families. If you like Fast and the Furious, you'll definitely enjoy the street racing, which plays a part in the storyline as well.
This book ended on a massive cliffhanger and I'm looking forward to the release of book 2.

Lets just say I flew through this Novella and my god it was so good! The spice was spicing from the get go!
Kane & Jessica are from the same town of Blackmoor Falls, but from two very different sides.
Kane is the son of one of the founding fathers and is rich beyond his means.
Jessica is from the north side, her mum has a terminal illness and is in hospice care. She lives at home with her brother, sister and alcoholic father in a house that is basically crumbling to the ground.
The book starts with Jessica and her sister sneaking into a Ravencourt party, hidden behind masquerade style masks with the hope of blending in because Jessica is there to steal some rare antiques that Kane's dad collects. Whilst she is in one of the many rooms in the mansion fitting as much as she can in her bag she is caught red handed by Kane...and the last thing you want is to be on his radar.
She does something that she has never done before and it shocks Kane into quite the obsession with her. The problem is neither should be even in the same breathing space as each other, let alone doing what they are doing. If either of their families found out they would quite literally pay with their lives.
The problem is Kane can't stay away nor get her out of his head, and Jessica - no matter how much she denies it - feels the same.
Kane oozes a no f*cks given attitude and my god its just 🤌🏼 No wonder Jessica can't stop thinking about him!
Kanes father is a total piece of 💩 and I would be more than happy to see him suffer in the next book. What he makes Kane and Chris do for the sake of power and money is despicable - i pray for his demise.
The Cliffhanger ending though... Miss Harleigh I need book 2 like...now!
Loved the world building and getting to know each characters in this book, i know some of these characters are surely going to have their own books at some point...at least I hope they do!

AHHHHHHHHHH. Fuck, okay. Wow. Loved loved LOVED this book. Harleigh always knows how to draw me in, and once again I am obsessed. She writes these characters so flawlessly, you cant help but love them.
Kane is a hardheaded tortured character, and when not so sweet little Jessica from the poor side of town grabs his attention, he’s weak to everything she is. But what we slowly learn is Kane has such a soft interior, and i can’t wait to see his softer side. Because we know deep down, he’s a broken soul, and once Jessica can peel back those layers… I’m sure we’ll see him shed that hard exterior, and I can already tell the characters development is going to be amazing!
When I tell you the tension and heat between these two was INTENSE. Like holy moly….. SO HOT. Obsessed with them and honestly I CANT WAIT for more of them. This feels like a starter, and now I need my main course?! HARLEIGH. What did you put in this book?! 🤭 the ending had me gasping for more, like… THATS IT?! I was done so quick, I picked it up and devoured the entire book in one sitting. It was binge worthy, fast paced, packed with plot and great characters. So excited for what’s to come…. I had so much fun with this book. Like I picked it up thinking “let me just see what this is about,” and suddenly I’m halfway in and kicking my feet like an idiot because Jessica and Kane are a whole situation.
The tension between them had me hooked right away. Jessica is such a strong FMC and I loved her attitude so much. Every time she opened her mouth I was like yes girl go ahead. Kane? Yeah he’s a mess but he’s the kind of mess I will happily watch ruin my life.
Their chemistry feels instant in the best chaotic way. They clash, they spark, they annoy each other, and somehow it all works. And then that ending? I was staring at my screen like excuse me where is book two because I’m not going to be normal about this.
The spice? Very fun. Very addictive. Definitely enough to keep me smiling like I’m reading something I shouldn’t in public.
I need the next book immediately because I can already see this relationship going dangerously delicious places and I’m here for every second.

I’m not ok 😮💨😬🫣that was amazing. The power dynamic between Kane & Jessica 😮💨had me on the edge of my seat till the end. The tension was 😍🫣even when I thought oh it’s finally gonna happen 🙂yep it didn’t, harleigh beck 100% wanted to edge the readers making them want more and more and let me tell you they succeeded. Because how could the book be left on that ending and make me wait for more of this series 🫠😮💨.
Kane the bad ass MMC who is a rich boy with a filthy mouth, Jessica the no holds barred FMC that will do anything to support her family no matter what are the perfect blend of couples. Jessica and Kane, the power dynamics that switch is just amazing!! I love how she becomes his puppet master but he also allows it. Like he said, he never thought to be dominated but he isn’t against her being one. She keeps trying to stand her ground and resist him, but man is he persistent. As someone who is not used to hearing “No”, and be looked past, she definitely has him under her thumb. At first I was like “nah, she’s gotta do better” but further into it I’m like “yes! Girl choose him!!” But his father, that guy needs to go!! ASAFP!! But left on a cliffhanger…how will I cope with the wait?!

I devoured and don’t regret my choices. What can I say? I need more. It was so short and fast yet perfectly paced that I got to the end screaming no because what?! I was left like that?!
I need more Kane. Perfect MMC. Jessica? I actually love her. The way things progressed between these two was perfect!
We are keeping things as spoiler free as possible but let’s just say this. Add to your TBR. Because you need this. As soon as Jessica and Kane cross paths it’s on like donkey Kong and it’s not going to let up. He’s powerful and determined and she’s being stubborn because you know wrong side of the tracks.
BUT. I need book 2 as mentioned because I see this perfectly toxic relationship progressing in all the best ways
Oh and Chris. Her brother? Hate the guy.

First, I’m going to need Kane Ravencourt to lay his claim to me the way he does with Jessica. It’s intoxicating and hot as hell! Harleigh created another male main character that I wish was real! Second, I’m going to need full length novels for each character from the Heights! I’m insanely ravenous for more after this brilliant and far too short story! I should state that even though this book is short the plot doesn’t suffer. You get all the required emotions and build up and by the end you’ve formed your own theories and are ready to see if they come to fruition. While I’m sitting here itching to be back in the clutches of Kane Ravencourt and the founding families, you should be out there preordering this so you an indulge next week!

This was a fun and quick read! A page turner of a story, had me blocked from the beginning til’ the end. I loved everything about it. Oh to be obsessed over by Kane Ravencourt. The chemistry was intense, Jessica being able to take control was fabulous.
Jessica has a lot on her shoulders, a sick mom and complicated family. She does whatever she has to for her family which is incredibly strong of her. Kane is a typical rich guy at first glance but there’s so much more to him. As rich as his family might be there is little love and his dad is on a whole other level.
Harleigh’s writing is amazing, can’t wait to get the rest of their story!!

Well this little treasure is HOT 🥵 and sets the story for the next book so well, it will leave you wanting more 🥵
This book introduces us to Jessica and Kane, two complete opposites in their wealth, social status and home life or so it would seem 🤔 but when these two are together they are fire 🔥
The sex scenes are unbelievably hot 🥵🔥 the dynamic between these two is so so good, I loved everything about them! They both discover things about themselves that they didn’t know but together they fit deliciously 🤤
Such a great start to the series and I’ll be sat impatiently waiting for more 😂

I absolutely ate this up! Harleigh Beck can do no wrong. The dynamic and tension between Kane and Jessica was so delicious. I love the way she dominates him so effortlessly and refuses to simply give in to him. The way he was so obsessed with her from the beginning 🥵 For being on the shorter side, this had a lot going on. The characters both had depth to them and stories that I know are going to break my heart even more in the future books. This had me hooked from chapter 2 and after that ending, I need the next book like I need air. I can't wait to learn more about these characters and see where their journey takes them!

First of all thank you for giving me opportunity to read this as an ARC.
I loved how Jessica didn’t back down when she was cornered and even managed to take Kane down. And Kane… he’s the kind who won’t stop until he gets exactly what he wants.
Kane’s father, on the other hand, drove me crazy a total manipulator who uses his own children for his own gain.
Since the book is short, their relationship does move a bit fast, but honestly, that’s my only complaint. I’m so curious to see where their story goes next. Fingers crossed we won’t have to wait too long for the second book!

Kane and Jessica are literal perfection. This story is everything you could ask for. The angst is amazing and character building is fantastic I love how independent and feisty Jessica is such a badass FMC. While Kane is confident and intense definitely morally grey. Their first encounter leaves you wanting more. Their story is far from traditional. There are still a lot of dark secrets to uncover but that cliff hanger!! I need more! Thank you Harleigh for blessing me with this ARC and opportunity to review prior to release. Now how do I sign up for Midnight Chase?

Oh my gosh, that ending! I cannot wait for the next book with these two! This novella is short and spicy and I ate up every single page! Kane and Jessica live on opposite sides of town and they couldn’t be more different. But that tension between them and their chemistry is insane! And that power dynamic had me kicking my feet and giggling!
