In his Rousas John A Brief History of the Life and Ministry of My Father, Mark Rushdoony offers an intimate account of one of the most influential—and controversial—Christian thinkers of the 20th century. Rather than a psychological biography or hagiography, this volume chronicles the facts of R. J. Rushdoony’s life, shaped by faith, conviction, and an uncompromising view of Christ’s lordship over all of life.
From his Armenian roots—his family fleeing genocide—to his pioneering work as a missionary and eventual founding of the Chalcedon Foundation, Rushdoony’s life was marked by controversy, opposition, and quiet perseverance. Drawing from family history, personal memories, and previously unpublished materials—including private journals, photos, and legal transcripts—Mark lays bare not only the theological and cultural battles his father faced, but the personal cost of his commitment to teaching God’s Kingdom.
This is a very interesting and easy to read biography of a great theologian who has been influential in my life in the past 10 years or so. I found the book helpful to bring more of this author and pastor to light, since I never had the chance to meet him. Written by his son and it is a definitely a honor to his father.
Wonderful book/audiobook read by Mark Rushdoony himself. R.J. Rushdoony was an amazing man with a wonderful calling and life. The Kingdom of God was indeed strengthened by his work and will continue to be.
