Only His Voice

Rate this book
To everyone else, he’s ObeyMyVoice—the Scottish voice actor who commands the internet’s darkest desires.
To her, he’s salvation.

Callie’s life has been fading into silence.
An indifferent partner. A hollow home. A routine that feels like slow erasure.
Until one night, a voice finds her in the dark. Deep. Commanding. Intimate.
A voice that doesn’t just speak to her—it speaks for her.

What begins as late-night messages becomes an obsession neither of them can escape.

Rhys Calder thrives on control. Online, he crafts fantasies that make strangers obey. But when the woman behind the screen starts to unravel in the real world, Rhys steps across the line he swore he never would.

As fantasy becomes reality, the boundary between protection and possession blurs.
And when love begins to sound like devotion, devotion starts to taste like domination.

Dark. Addictive. Obsessively intimate.
Only His Voice is a psychological dark romance about what happens when desire becomes addiction—and when the man who was supposed to save you becomes the one you can’t escape.

This one’s for my delulu girlies on TikTok… because who wouldn’t want one of their favourite creators to become obsessed with them..?

Told mostly from the MMCs point of view…and I loved that. You don’t see it often, and it made this story feel so much more intimate and real. Getting inside his head…hearing his thoughts…it added a whole new layer to the obsession.

This story had me highlighting like a madwoman…forty-six times, to be exact! The chemistry, the teasing, the control…it was all so good. Rhys was dominant, delicious and an absolute meanie at times…but who doesn’t love a meanie? Because I definitely do.

I really hope the author gets this one narrated, because there’ll be loads of us desperate to hear that voice the way Callie did.

The writing was descriptive and easy to sink into…you could feel every moment. And the spice? Talking my love language. Excellent and extremely well written. The slow build of obsession was perfect and those blurred lines while Rhys tried so hard to control himself just made it even better.

This debut gave me everything I wanted… tension, heat, and obsession. I’ll be keeping a close eye on whatever they write next, because I’m fully invested after this one.

Only His Voice delivers a potent, consuming reading experience for those who enjoy dark romance with a twist. The concept is original: the voice becomes both the lure and the domain. Duncan commits fully to the power play, and for readers who want heat, tension and the "what if my favourite creator became obsessed with me?" fantasy, this will hit home.

I'd give it about 4 out of 5 stars. It doesn't reinvent the genre entirely, but it takes familiar tropes and twists them nicely with the voice actor / online obsession angle. The narrative pull is strong, the characters are compelling.

Go in expecting a thriller-tinged romance where the boundaries shift, rather than a safe "feel-good" contemporary.

If you're comfortable with power dynamics, you'll likely enjoy the ride. If you're more wary of control/submission themes, just be aware of how far this leans into that.

All in all it’s a really good read!!

I absolutely loved this one; the buildup between the MC’s was incredible, and I really loved getting to see inside the head of the MMC. This felt like a character study for crafting the complexities of a character we often only get the outside perspective of, and it was done with a level of detail that I think really lent to the character’s duality. On the one hand we got to see the progression of his entanglement with Hallie in real time, watching the way his interjection into her life became more overt and apparent. On the other hand though, having a direct line to his internal monologue while that was happening was a great way to see the emotional effect she was having on him throughout. The chemistry between the two characters is absolutely flawless, and the give and take of how they interact felt so genuine and real that it was easy to get sucked into the story!

This book is an absolute must-read for anyone who is absolutely sucked in by the voice acting in audiobooks. From the very first chapter, I was completely engrossed in the story. Callie finds herself trapped in a deteriorating relationship, dealing with a jerk boyfriend who is really more of just a roommate after the years they have been together. Amidst this turmoil, she crosses paths with Rhys, the voice actor she discovers on TikTok. Curiosity becomes obsession. I thoroughly enjoyed the multiple perspectives provided by the dominant male character, Rhys. His encouragement for Callie to embrace her independence and make her own choices was a refreshing departure from the typical tropes found in dark romance novels. If you like slow burn and intense obsession with a hint of touch her and die, this is the book for you. I can't wait to see what this author comes up with next!

So the first 150 pages I really loved, after that point it was just good. I think it was a good book over all I just think that some things, either I just didn’t pick up on it or weren’t there in the beginning, came out of left field and caught me off guard. I also (personal opinion) don’t care for the cheating grey area. It just doesn’t suit me but it wasn’t a deal breaker for this story. I can say I haven’t read anything like this that was this modern and unique of a meet cute. I also enjoyed that the first half was from the MMCs pov that was new and something I quite enjoy. Overall a good book.

On of the many things I loved about this book was the originality of the storyline. In my opinion, this writing was raw and real. What I mean by that are the situations in the book —I try not to give spoilers— have a sense of realism that is often missing in many books of this genre. It’s easily one of my favorites. I have a strict ‘buy the kindle version until I reread it at least three times’ rule… I broke that rule. All I can say is that if you like the spicier and darker side of romances, then you should 100% give this book a read!

Only His Voice was a spicy, intense read that kept me hooked from the start. It provided a strong buildup to the characters and their evolving connection, making their chemistry feel earned and immersive. I also loved how the story introduced fresh concepts within a dominant/submissive dynamic—elements that added depth without feeling overwhelming.

If you enjoyed Fifty Shades of Grey, this book feels like the next level. Bold, provocative, and full of tension, Only His Voice definitely delivered the heat and the heart.

Hot damn! I was an ARC reader and holy crap batman! Callie is in a dead end relationship. She stumbles upon a Tik Tok and instantly feels a connection with the voice. What starts out as DM’s, very quickly turns into an emotional relationship that speeds right into a BDSM situation. The SPICE!! Through all of this, Callie is trying to leave her old life behind, including who longterm boyfriend. He definitely does not take it well. This was a fast paced read full of touch and die vibes, possessiveness, and something neither Callie nor Rhys ever imagined!

“Obsession never sounded this good.”

I loved this book. The character development was so well paced — you can literally feel Rhys shifting from casual curiosity to full-blown obsession with Callie. The slow intensity build had me gasping when he finally crossed that critical line between observing and claiming.
Callie starts out unsure, quiet but strong in her independence… until his voice changes everything. She slips into a submissive space she’s never known before — not because she wanted to, but because she was already giving herself to Rhys without even realising it.
If I had one small wish, it would be to see more of how Rhys balanced his “TikTok Lives/Voice Acting” while spiraling into obsession. His voice is such a key element early on, and I missed it when that thread disappeared until the epilogue.

But overall? This book is a fever dream of quiet obsession, consented surrender, and delicious tension.
This story gave me everything — spice, passion, power play, and just enough darkness to make it thrillingly unhinged.

I really enjoyed getting so much POV from the dominant MMC. I also like that he pushed her to seek her independence and make choices on her own for herself. That was so refreshing!

I wasn’t ready for how much this one would hit. It starts with a Scottish growl on TikTok that makes you stop scrolling and suddenly, you’re hooked on ObeyMyVoice. Callie (LadyKnightShade) has spent so long feeling invisible, but Rhys’s voice… you just can’t ignore it. Confident, commanding, and exactly the kind of danger she didn’t even know she wanted.

What starts as a casual online connection grows into something way deeper a Dom/Sub bond that’s more about trust and emotion than anything else. Callie’s complete surrender to Rhys is breathtaking. It’s not weakness; it’s freedom. And honestly, it’s the kind of connection few people ever get to experience.

A.B. Duncan writes this so well the tension, the chemistry, the way it all feels real. I was hooked from start to finish. If you’re drawn to a voice that could literally undo you, this one will stick with you long after you close the book.

I received this book as an Arc and am voluntarily leaving a personal review.
