Call In For Murder

Rate this book
Call-in radio host Ashley Compton is Las Vegas’s best friend when it comes to giving relationship tips to strangers. But when a repeat caller is found murdered after exposing her woes on the air and accepting the challenge to put up or shut up, Ashley questions if her homespun advice was the catalyst for the murder.

Afraid of losing her job and destroying her reputation, Ashley heads to the seedy side of Las Vegas to snoop around. There she encounters shady lies, gambling, adultery, and potential criminal activities. When her two-timing and felonious suspects spout glib excuses to justify their behaviors, she digs deeper and is threatened, injured, and gets what she dishes advice she doesn’t always like.

Can Ashley’s sleuthing skills catch the killer, or will she end up just another crime statistic? Can she save her career, or will she be put on the Do-Not-Call list?

Tammy Barker’s debut cozy was such a delightful read! Take one call-in radio host, add a pinch of murder, top it off with a handful of sneaky suspects, and then stir to see whose dastardly motive rises to the top.

This mystery had it all—well-defined characters, a glitzy setting (with a touch of seediness), and a winding plot that kept me guessing until the satisfying conclusion. I would love to read another Ashley Compton cozy!

Fun debut mystery. Ashley Compton gives it to her radio listeners straight - advice of the heart...except something seems to go dreadfully wrong when one of those listeners ends up dead. Fearing her advice as Ms. Lare was the cause of her listener's death, Ashley insists upon sleuthing to find the real killer. The only problem is her impulsive amateur detective activities may make her the next victim.

I'm giving this five stars because as a debut novel, it may have a few rough places, but on the whole Barker has created a delightful character, a solid plot, and an enjoyable read. Looking forward to what I hope will be another in a series.

What a fun debut from Tammy Barker!

Miss LARE (for love and relationship expert), aka Ashley Compton, is Las Vegas' own Frasier Crane--though she's a lot feistier and daring than he, for sure. But when a caller ends up dead shortly after receiving her radio advice and Ashley feels compelled to investigate, she wonders if perhaps she's being a bit TOO daring...

If you're looking for a snarky cozy mystery, an insider's look at the real Las Vegas, and a fun feisty heroines--and sidekicks, as well--then CALL IN FOR MURDER is for you!
