Not wanting to forget any important items in his new house, Bullfrog seeks the advice of Gertrude. Upon completion he finds he has overlooked one thing.
Bullfrog goes to build a house and he just can't figure out where to start. When another frog, Gertrude, happens to come along, she tells him to start with something he loves. Bullfrog does and then they construct a very cute house together, but in the end, something is missing. Can Bullfrog figure out what that is?
Bullfrog found a large lake and decided that he wanted to build his house there. Gertrude then came out of the woods. Bullfrog shared his lunch with her and asked her where he should start on his new house. Bullfrog then decided that he wanted to start his house with a diving board. Then they built the house put a bathtub in, a kitchen, a stove and finished. Gertrude then decided that it was probably time to leave, so she was on her way. Bullfrog then became sad and didn't know why. He then ran out and asked Gertrude to play cards. Bullfrog then told Gertrude that she should stay forever, and she agreed. They were very happy in their new home.
I gave this book five stars, the simple illustrations made the book great. Along with that, the story plot kept me on my toes wondering what they were going to do next. I think that this story would make kids happy when they read it.
A simple and sweet book about building a house together and building companionship along the way. It's fairly long, and the pictures may not be sufficient to sustain the interest of the young readers who would benefit the most from a book for learning vocabulary. However, readers will learn words for parts of a house and common household items, and adults will smile at the sweet developing companionship (and implicit marriage) of the characters.
This was my book when I was 9. Even when I was 9, I realized that even though Bullfrog has good ideas (I want a diving board off the porch, too!), Gertrude was the smarter frog. But Bullfrog finally has his Harry Burns moment in the end. A charming story to read to the tween at bedtime when he doesn't feel so great and doesn't want to think too much.
