5 stars. Where the hell do I sign up to partake in these type of activities? Damn. This was ridiculously hot and the chase between Jax and Birdie was addictive. Loved their chemistry and that scene on the ride? Delicious. No notes. I am absolutely feral over primal play in sapphic romances and I complain all the time about there not being enough so thank you Kat Blackthorne, I’m forever grateful to you for feeding my addiction. This was great and I will be reading it again.

This to me is mostly about the energy being transferred between Jax and Birdie. There’s predator and prey, there’s not much in the way of feelings or physical attributes other than Jax’s fit, muscular and bigger than Birdie. Able to overpower her at her own will. It is what it says on the tin though: primal. Unfortunately I felt the void of those more minute details, and I can’t say it was fully made up for by way of their encounters when a chase was completed.
Always tricky to get a W from a novella and this fell short for me.

If you are prey, like Birdie, you need to run or hide to make it through the night and hope that the predators don't get you. Or maybe you want them to catch you? 🤭
When Jax eyes land on Birdie though, well let's just say, the hunt begins. 😈

I saw content warnings for this book, and while I appreciate them (no one should stumble across something that is triggering) for me, the warnings set a certian expectation that wasn't met.
I've read MM & MF books with primial play and CNC (consensual non-consent), so maybe I'm jaded, but this especially the CNC barely requires a mention.
With that said, readers new to those tropes are bound to get more out of it that I did. Check the other stellar reviews.
On a side note, which may be another 'me thing', but I found it really, really weird listening to a character constantly references another book written by this author.

I read this because I saw that the cover features the author and her partner, which I just adored. While I didn't love this book, it was mostly fun and a quick read.
I didn't read the triggers because it was such a short book and I really only have one thing that's a no-go. I'm glad I didn't look at the triggers because "dub-con" is listed which is the one thing I cannot get behind. This book did not contain any dub-con and should be taken off the trigger page. There is light CNC (consensual non-consent) which I'm fine with and attempted assault, but no dub-con. If I would've read that trigger before reading the book, I probably wouldn't have given it a shot which is a shame when the book doesn't even contain the trigger.
I wanted more out of the relationship and spice between Birdie and Jax. For me, the scenes were too short. The spice on the ferris wheel lasted 2-3 pages. I know this was a novella, but I would've much preferred one or two spicy scenes if they were longer and gave me some time to get into it. The ending was cute, but I wish Jax would've taken her mask off and there to be more romantic chemistry rather than purely sexual.
Lu-Lu has to be one of the worst friends in any book. She sets Birdie up to be basically assaulted without letting her know what the party was about and purposefully sabotages her by giving her high heels to run in. I get that she had to bring someone (also not sure that that rule makes sense, but anyway) but she definitely could've prepared her in some way. I also think it's crazy that Birdie didn't read the NDA before signing it which gave her the safe word.
I did like the idea for the party and the setting. I do think the rides could've been utilized a little more, but this was a short page count, so there wasn't a lot of time to spend on chases through a bunch of rides. The chases that was got were good. I also think the characters (for the most part) were good about getting consent, especially in a CNC situation it's very important to establish what is part of the roleplay and what isn't and to have a safe word.
I liked this book, but there were things I could've enjoyed more and it was pretty forgettable. I'd recommend this novella if you want a short spicy sapphic read as long as it doesn't have to be anything deep. I'd be open to reading another book by this author, but I don't plan on reading the sequel to this. I just didn't feel much connection to the characters to make me want to see more of them. I would probably read about a different couple at the party though.

This is short, spicy, and slightly unhinged book that had me on my toes for the entirety of the plot. The ominous event that she is dragged to and being unprepared had me gripping my chair. The interaction between Birdie and Jax was divine, and for a f/f romance, the tension was dripping. And the spice at the end was far worth the wait.
When Lu-Lu gets the invitation to a secure Halloween party, she decides to make Birdie tag along with her since they wear the same size. Upon arriving, they are forced to sign an NDA before entering, causing Birdie to become curious about the contents of the party. Lu-Lu insists that it’s gonna be a fun night, but that doesn’t stop Birdie from having her own feelings about the situation. But upon entering the venue, Birdie finds out that it’s more than just a popular funhouse. It’s a primal game of cat and mouse, and unfortunately she chose the wrong shoes to wear to the event. As things start, she loses Lu-Lu in the pursuit and is immediately sought after by a group of ravenous guys, when a masked stranger comes to her safety.
The difference between this primal story and others is that there are zero cis hit men presented. All females chasing down others to torment in sexual ways. It's very fast-paced and first, you start thinking her friend brought her there and dressed her inappropriately for the event on purpose, but there's a hidden agenda in store for the readers. I love Birdie and Jax and I hope to hear from them again in the future because their story isn't done yet.
