After Joker kills Batman in issue 1 of DC K.O., it’s revealed here that he didn’t die, and had rigged his suit with a Motherbox to teleport himself back to Gotham in case he lost in the ongoing tournament to become King Omega and stop Darkside.

When he gets there, he finds a very different future version of Gotham, and is attacked by a bunch of unknown Robin’s. Then Dick Grayson Batman shows up and spews some nonsense about Bruce having lost his shit due to old age, and taking a bath in the Lazarus pit so he could keep being Batman instead of letting his sons take over.

Batman is obviously like, “what the hell are you talking about, I’m coming form a death tournament to save the earth from Darkside”, but Dick is like don’t you remember what you did ?, you killed your sons, Damian, Jason, and Tim cause you couldn’t stand the idea of us replacing you. Thats when Batman realizes that he might actually still be in the freaking tournament.

Damn, these DC K.O. Titles are just as wild as the absolute ones, and the best thing about them is that they are both connected. Very great stuff!

A trippy DC K.O tie in that follows Bruce's journey after being . Gotham is no longer the city he remembers, and there's a new man donning the mantle of Batman; old Dick Grayson. It is unclear if any of this issue is cemented in reality, and that's where the intrigue comes in. Much of what Dick says doesn't co-incide with the main event, thus lowering the validity and adding to the confusion and suspense. As long as this avoids the 'it was a dream or hallucination all along' trope, then there might be an interesting story to tell here.

Knightfight feels like it’s building toward something really exciting—not just for this mini-series, but potentially for the larger DC K.O. event happening right now.

And if you know Batman, you know he’s never really dead. The man has a contingency plan for everything.

Still, I wasn’t expecting him to return after his death in DC K.O. #1, only to find Gotham being protected by Dick Grayson’s version of the Dark Knight. It’s such an interesting angle, seeing a world shaped by a Batman who never wanted the mantle in the first place.

To me, this clearly feels like a false future or alternate reality that Bruce has to navigate his way out of; but the idea of Batman essentially having to face each of his sons as different interpretations of the Dark Knight is incredibly compelling to me as a reader, especially when we start talking about characters like Jason Todd.

At the end of the day, I’m just thrilled to get more Dick Grayson content. Even though he never wanted to be Batman, it’s so cool to see how he would wear the cowl; how his approach differs; and how he’d handle things under these extreme circumstances, especially with what we know about Bruce practically losing his mind in this alternate world and refusing to give up the cape and cowl.

Very cool, very fun; a fantastic addition to the DC K.O. run.

I'm not 100% sure how to feel about this yet, but it seems like this will be very interesting. I'm looking forward to the next issue.

I love how much of this was just Bruce talking about how much he loves his sons. He even said nice things about Jason which was so freaking refreshing!

Welcome to your personal nightmare, Bruce! The end of the issue really seals it (and packs a punch). I like this in the same way that I liked Future State. It’s really interesting to explore possible “futures” when they aren’t about the heroes you love all becoming evil or whatever (Titans of Tomorrow, I’m looking at you). While I don’t think it’s a realistic future, I don’t think it’s meant to be. It’s got to be the heart of Apokalips, playing all its tricks to get back at Bruce for trying to cheat. If this is the wild alternate future they crafted for Dick, I can’t wait to see what they had in mind for Jason, Tim, and Damian. I’ve always appreciated the care Joshua Williamson demonstrates for the Robins as individuals with histories and personalities distinct from Bruce and each other, so I am optimistic the rest of the series will be this good.

Great book! Picks up near the end of K.O. with a shocking, not shocking twist. Batman is always ready for everything right? I enjoy what's going on here, the big battle and what it's leading to, but I also very much enjoyed the introduction with Batman giving us a recap on everyone and showing his thoughts on his Bat-Family and his own place in the world. Great issue!

Alright this is an interesting start to this storyline, I am very grateful that DCKO isn’t interrupting the main batman storyline and instead he has a side special but I am not buying into this situation. On the surface I think they want you to think that batman is floating around to different multiverses and fighting alternative Robin’s that have become batman, but I think that is a total lie and I think based on Batman’s verbiage he has started to figure that out. The start of this issue immediately deals with the four Robin’s we will be dealing with across this series and the part of batman he sees reflecting in each of them. Nightwing is the leader who has built his own role and life and has grown beyond what Bruce ever thought possible. Jason is the rebel and survivor who has embraced his emotions in a way Bruce never thought was possible. Tim is the brains, the detective and always thinking ahead. And Damian is the heart who started as a killer and has become a healer. Seeing them in action he can’t help but wonder of Gotham needs him anymore. And that is exactly what I think the heart of Apokolips intends to confront Bruce with in this series. Unlike the others who fell in the tournament and were placed to the side as stone statues, Bruce of course had a contingency plan. He brought in Apokolipitan tech to automatically teleport him away of be stopped moving for too long. But we are fighting the heart of Apokolips here, so if anything is going to have control and manipulation over the tech, it’s that.

Immediately upon boom tubing away Bruce found himself in a highly advanced futuristic Gotham that he doesn’t recognize. Trying to call for help just caused his tech to sputter out, but it didn’t take long for the locale to catch on to his presence and for a swarm of highly skilled people dressed in different Robin costumes to descend on him and call him the “bat who fell,” as someone who needs to be take down quickly. Bruce fed into their attacks, recognizing their style and flair for the dramatic and ultimately who taught them. He wants answers and can tell they are leading him somewhere so he plays into it, only to run right into who he expected…Dick Grayson, holding the current mantle of the batman. Something terrible happened here and as our Bruce tried to explain the tournament all Dick can hear in the insanity in his voice from the Bruce they are used to in their world. Someone who couldn’t deal with aging or giving up the bat mantle and used the Lazarus pit to rejuvenate himself, ultimately causing him to turn insane. Dick was ultimately able to tie Bruce up, and like anyone with father issues and the chance to gloat, Dick began to monologue about everything they were able to accomplish with Bruce out of the way. Dick expanded and created the bat-tower and Robin inc, a comprehensive network around the world to take in people from all over and giving them training and education to help the world as robins. Dick has accomplished Bruce’s mission on a scale and success that he never could have. But as our Bruce looks across this he is disappointed as none of this is Dick, and not what he wanted for him. He didn’t want Dick to carry his burden, he wanted Dick to have his own life and create his own identity. Something isn’t right here and Bruce doesn’t know why it turned out this way. Dick recognized the look in his eyes and the two once again engaged in combat, they delivered pretty evenly marched blows but Bruce had the upper hand until he tried to rip at Dick’s cape only for Dick to loose the cap and knock Bruce down, he doesn’t need that to fight and at this moment all Dick wants to show Bruce is that he is a better batman because he trusts and doesn’t lead with and that Bruce can leave Gotham in their hands now. But Bruce knows there is still something wrong, he can agree that Dick may be right and that he was able to do something he could never do, but this world isn’t right and the mother box in his armor is still receiving a ping from the heart of Apokolips. So he has to keep fighting no matter what. But what still gets to Bruce as they fight and talk, if Dick is Batman then where are his brothers. And that’s when dick points out that they aren’t here because he couldn’t accept anyone else taking over the mantle of the batman and he killed them! Yeah, that would be a pretty big thing wrong with this world to cause this.

This issue left me a bit conflicted; frustrated, yet still entertained. The biggest drawback was how few pages we actually got. The main story is already short, and adding a Static/Batman Beyond segment on top of that made the primary narrative feel even more compressed. It’s hard not to question why we’re essentially paying for a partial installment.
That said, the content we did receive was genuinely enjoyable. Williamson has a great handle on Batman and the entire Bat-family; the dialogue and characterization feel authentic, like a true Batman story rather than someone forcing their own voice onto these characters. And Dan Mora’s art? Incredible. Every single panel looks like it could hang on a wall; he just never misses.
Overall, despite the limited page count, the story itself is fun and engaging. I’m definitely interested in reading more, but at this point I’d recommend waiting for the trade instead of picking up each individual issue.

Meh. I understand that this is just an excuse to watch Batman and Dick Grayson fight. This is either an alternate future, or a hallucination. Either way, Dick is making some semi-persuasive points that Batman needs to let go and let the other heroes take over more. The actual PLOT behind this? The ridiculous premise that a bunch of our heroes are fighting to the death for the chance to become an omega-powered deity that could defeat Darkseid.

There is no actual way that could happen. Something is going to happen so that Superman, Doomsday, or someone else instead becomes empowered by Alpha energy, or "the light" instead. There is no way that the mainstream DC universe will let most of these characters die and stay dead, let alone let someone good turn into the next Darkseid. I even liked Hal Jordan's fall from grace as Parallax, but fans did not let that stand.

I’ve got to start with the colors on this one: Tríona Farrell makes Williamson and Mora’s vision of a twisted future Gotham come to life. The colors capture the nightmarish, surreal vibe perfectly - is this real?? Maybe! The idea is also interesting enough to have me buy in to a 4-issue mini that’s tying in to a very fun event.

The first half of this book didn't click with me. I was having a hard time following along. Then the second half started to make sense and the dialogue really picked up. The art felt a little inconsistent in this one. Mora may be getting stretched too thin with all the stuff that he is working on.

so sick. dan mora killed it on the art, as always.

i love alternate timeline stuff so i found this really interesting. there was also a really good character study of batman and how his obsession goes too far, how he doesn’t trust and how he never sees how much others could really help him. i loved the moments between him and dick here.

Honestly, after the first KO, I couldn’t WAIT for this one. Especially after reading that it was going to be Batman vs. futuristic Batmen. That’s awesome. And ………….. it doesn’t deliver at all. Truly disappointing. It doesn’t deliver and falls flat. I’m upset I was let down.

*3.5-ish // super interesting premise but im still not fully sold on the characterization. ill give some grace tho considering that the future bruce teleports to may be a darkseid-manipulated one, so the characters are probably somewhat twisted

The TWIST!

Also I’m like a cat in heat for this Dick Grayson. Dan Mora’s art is so pleasing to look at: the designs, the compositions, and the line weight.

Cool idea. A Batman taken to the edge and destroying everything he built. What happened is a must find out.
