When you bind a heart, you bind your fate Love turns into poison and it’s sharp as hate The chains you cast will hold you too For what you take will come for you It might come fast, sometimes it’s slow But the spirits you summon will always show Be not quick to grab what is not yours Lest you are ready to open the demon’s doors
4.5 stars! This has definitely been my favorite "spooky" book so far.
Sabrena was the last descendant of the Winsor witches. Prior to her it had been decades that any of them actually practiced witchcraft. Her family for all intense and purposes were "Good witches," never practicing Black Magic or abusing their power. That didn't keep them from being shunned though. Despite having a solid group of friends, Sabrena had begun feeling lonely and yearned for a love like her Best Friends.
Chillle when jealousy, selfishness, and ungratefulness consume Sabrena all hell breaks loose. She is willing to get 'her" man by any means necessary, even if that means hurting her friend and crossing over to the dark side. The way karma came knocking was everything.
Loved the plot twist and the message of the story. The Grass ain't always Greener on the other side, and be very careful of what you wish for.
Yes Nek!! Envy wearing a friendly face hit different, and Sabrena is the kind of woman who’ll smile in your living room while plotting to move into your life. Her fixation wasn’t love, it was possession and watching her chase something that never belonged to her was like watching a slow-moving curse begging to be completed. Every choice she made dug her grave a little deeper, and when the fallout landed, it landed with precision.
The supernatural twist didn’t just add spice- it sharpened the consequences. She tampered with forces she didn’t respect, ignored every warning, and still believed she could rewrite someone else’s destiny as her own. What she ended up with wasn’t romance, it was punishment disguised as fulfillment...exactly what happens when entitlement meets the mirror.
What makes it hit is how compact yet layered it reads: jealousy, desperation, entitlement, and cosmic justice served hot and unflinching. The final pages seal the message with a chill, a reminder that not every prize is meant to be yours, and sometimes you really should’ve stayed in your lane.
Be careful what you wish for, ’cause you just might get it! See what happens when you don’t keep your eyes on your own paper? Everything blows up in your face — and that’s exactly what happened to Sabrena. I won’t lie, I didn’t know what to expect from the blurb, but NEK, I see you! I absolutely love when authors step out of their usual lane and try something new — and let me just say, this one worked. Because You’re Mine is short, mysterious, and delivers a strong message about minding your business and creating your own happiness. I don’t know what kind of witchy vibes Sabrena had going on, but they definitely led her astray. Envy and jealousy got the best of her, and it ended with her hurting her best friend and claiming something that never belonged to her in the first place. This story might be short, but it had me locked in. Once I pieced together what was happening, it did feel a little predictable — but still enjoyable. NEK mixed in just enough paranormal elements and suspense to keep me on edge. Donavan’s behavior? Whew. It got intense. One wrong spell and your whole life can spiral, and Sabrena learned that the hard way.In the beginning, I was rooting for her. I wanted the witchy girl to get her HEA—but not this way. So Yeah, whatever happened to her, she brought that on herself. I will be honest—-we needed some backstory on the spell because it got confusing and it wasn’t clear. Was Donavan possessed? Was there a demon? Idk!! I might be reaching here, but I swear they made her come back as that baby just so she could suffer watching Janelle and Donavan live their best lives — and You know what—-yeah!
My only drawbacks: there were no content warnings for Donavan’s domestic violence toward Sabrena, and the “gay bestie” turned straight at the end was like “okkkkk” It gave scared straight—literally 🫠. I will admit side eyed a little.
Other than that, I really enjoyed this one. It was creative, eerie in the best way, and showed a different side of NEK’s storytelling. Kudos to the author — job well done.

Remember the old folks use to say, “a hard head makes a soft behind”?? Well that could be the synopsis of this book!
Listen, Sabrena thought fat meat wasn’t greasy (I’m in my old lady bag now , let me cook) and ignored all warnings and care for the potential fall out. She let her intrusive thoughts win and of course that caused all kinda chaos. 😳🤦🏽♀️
Imma stop before I give some spoilers but remember one more old lady gem, “everybody ain’t your friend.” I like Nek with her Spooky Season pen out.
This was a fun spooky read just in time for Halloween! It's short but the author packs in alot and the characters have BIG nerve. Definitely recommend.
Now, see Sabrena is the perfect example of a broad who doesn’t just want a man like yours, she wants your man 😒 From page one, I knew she was foul. Just a piss poor excuse for a friend who’s been jealous of Janelle since forever, and now she finally decided to act on it. Smh.
But let me tell you, karma did what karma does, quick, clean, and satisfying 😌 It was truly a joy watching her downfall unfold. Now I just hope the sins of the Donovans don’t spin the block and come back to haunt him because whew spooky season is here and this one fit the mood perfectly.
4⭐ because it gave drama, betrayal, and revenge all in one messy, entertaining package.
Sabrena is that "friend" that you're always hearing that you need to watch out for. Being envious of what her best friend has sent her on a downhill spiral of destruction at her own hands. Being born into a long line of witches, she literally had the power to get anything she wanted at the tip of her fingers. That type of power proved to be too much and extremely tempting, even though there was an unspoken rule about not dabbing in black magic. Throwing caution to the wind, she did just that and some. She FAFO in the worst way and learned that not everything that glitters is gold.
When I say this book make you look at your friends with a side eye about your man. Miss Sabrena was a last descendant witch who apparently couldn't get no man because she had her eyes set on Donovan who was her "best friend" Janelle man. Sabrena wanted sunshine and rainbows and got gloom and doom. Sabrena let the jealousy get the best of her even with warning. She didn't care that she hurt her friend and got exactly what karma had in store for her. She did get a forever person like she wanted so I guess you can say she had a not so happy ending.
Nek! Girl you know you can make a book with unique chants! No only that, THIS story took me through there!!! Brena was a little witch still in training. Her vision proven to not be fully true or was it? Poor Donovan got his life turned more ways than one but it honestly makes me wonder who he really was compared to what the spell made him?! I’m definitely shocked 😮 & shaking my head 🤦🏾♀️
This was an interesting read but it left me with two many questions. Why did Sabrena see Donovan? Why did she switch up all of a sudden? Why was her family shunned was she cursed or something? With the way things end what’s up with the ending? As a concept I liked this, I just think it would have made more sense if the fmc was given a shady personality from the start.
karma is nothing to play with and loved this quote from the book “When you bind a heart, you bind your fate Love turns into poison, and it’s as sharp as hate The chains you cast will hold you too For what you take will come for you It might come fast, sometimes it’s slow But the spirits you summon will always show Be not quick to grab what is not yours Lest you are ready to open the demon’s doors”.
Because You’re Mine is a cautionary tale of be careful what you wish for, but in this case be careful what you spell for you just might get it. I bet if Sabrena could go back to being the odd little witch. She lost everything for a moment of pleasure she thought would last forever.
But that cliffhanger cause I need to know what’s up with Donovan and his weird eyed son DJ. Cause it’s seeming like all parties were used by the binding spirit.
Well this was quite the read...I didn't expect this but I loved it. Sabrean ass deserved all the fuck shit she got, hoe out here being a disloyal and grimmy bitch. Like how u do ur friend dirty...fake ass friend bitch... that end with the baby gave me literal chills...this was such a good short
Whew…if be careful what you wish for was a book. My goodness. I was lil creeped out by this one. However, lil miss witch got just want she conjured up. You definitely don’t need enemies with friends like her. To be in secret competition like that was crazy. Poor Donovan and Janelle. The ending upped the spookiness for me because the babyyy😩😩
Anything Nek Mills is an automatic read for me. I know it’s a different book for her but I feel like she executed it perfectly. I’m like everybody got what they deserved in the end. Sabrena included lol… great job Nek!
Sabrena was delusional! Sorry she messed around and found out that the love you see someone let have may not be the same love you receive from the same person. Crazy short read.
Nah b|c you plot on the only person that been solid to you?! This was different from what I’ve read of Nek but yeaaaaa you did that! Stop beg after people’s things!
I enjoyed this book though I don’t participate or get involved magic of any sorts this book was a real page turner! I would like to believe Sabrena got what she deserved but I’m a bit confused on the ending …
Moral of the story, the grass ain’t greener on the other side so be careful what you wish for🤷🏽♀️. Absolutely amazing. Nek did her thing with this one👌🏽🔥
Listen I don't fool up with the crafts tbh but I loved this story of consequence! Sabrina played stupid games and won stupid prizes. True love will always win!!
I enjoyed every page of this well written story. The title of this book definitely describes the story within. With interesting, characters and one definitely crazy one.
