Unruly: A Paranormal MM Romance

Rate this book
After centuries alone, he enters my life and turns my world upside down. We have a shared mission and it’s our future at stake.

My life is predictable, steady, and simple. I spend my time recruiting and training the newly departed to the Soul Chasers Society, the group dedicated to ridding the Above of the reckless spirits haunting it, and I love it. It’s satisfying and safe. A life behind the scenes suits me just fine.

Until the day that my name is on the rotation and I have to tackle the most unruly Horror yet. Its escape should be impossible, and yet, here we are. I’m even more surprised when I’m assigned to partner with the newest Soul Chaser, a handsome, unbound soul who embraces all of life’s twists and turns with open arms. We couldn’t be more different, yet there’s something about this man with kind eyes and boundless enthusiasm that draws me into his ways.

We have our hands full, and if this budding attraction has any chance of blooming, we’ll have to work together to banish the Horror and somehow figure out how our worlds continue to intertwine when it’s all over.

My life is becoming increasingly unpredictable, and strangely, I kind of like it.

Unruly is book three in Soul Chasers, an MM paranormal romance with dark themes, mid-level relationship angst, and spice. In Unruly, you can expect a buttoned-up rule follower whose loneliness is so normal he doesn’t notice it anymore, a free-spirited wild child who finds himself on the wrong side of life, a Horror refusing to follow the rules, and two men finding what neither of them expected in each other.

This was such an entertaining read. I jumped into this without reading the other two books in this series and there was no problem, I could follow along. I really enjoyed the premise of this story. I loved Farnsworth and Borja's detective work and how they worked as partners to find the Horror they were looking for. I loved their chemistry and how Borja woke up Farnsworth and made him open to new experiences and even to experiencing life in a way he thought he never would. I loved Farnsworth's curiosity towards the world Above. I loved the little possessive flares Borja had and how he explained things to Farnsworth.
Unruly was funny and an easy read. So if you're looking for a fun little paranormal read about a guide and a Soul Chaser then this is the book for you.

I received an ARC from Mia Monroe and these are my honest thoughts.

Farnsworth is a character that we have known about since the first book in this series. He's the man who greets all the freshly deceased Chasers before he offers them a new "life" so to speak. This means he's also the one who has to inform them of their untimely demises. Some people take more convincing than others. Our other MC, Borja, is the newest individual whom Farnsworth finds himself explaining things to.

There were a few things about Borja's onboarding as a Chaser that were not the usual. For one, as soon as Borja decides to take the offer of being a Chaser, he is already assigned a horror. And two, he is assigned as a partner to Farnsworth who hasn't been hunting in over a century or more. I was curious how things were going to go with Farnsworth being rusty and Borja being wet behind the ears.

"𝙿𝚎𝚘𝚙𝚕𝚎 𝚍𝚘𝚗'𝚝 𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚕𝚕𝚢 𝚕𝚒𝚔𝚎 𝚝𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝚒𝚗 𝙽𝚎𝚠 𝙴𝚗𝚐𝚕𝚊𝚗𝚍 - 𝚓𝚞𝚜𝚝 𝚜𝚑𝚘𝚠𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚞𝚙."

PSA for those reading this book, Borja is absolutely correct in that us Northeasterners do not want you showing up at our doors unexpected!! Please don't do this! I am glad Borja was informed, because I do not think things would go well for him just showing up willy nilly. He and Farnsworth already had enough on their plates without getting the cops called on them from the jump.

There was a lot of buildup when it came to the particular Horror Borja and Farnsworth were after. They still had plenty of sweet moments together, but much was focused on the severity of the escaped and what his plans could be. Farnsworth was so focused I don't think he even realized he was falling in love until it was too late. It was kind of funny, but I am glad Farnsworth got his own happy ending after all the hard work he'd done for the Chasers over his years of service.

This is the 3rd and final? entry into the Soul Chasers series. I've been with this series since the start, and I always hoped Farnsworth would get a story and was happy with this. Farnsworth has served the soul chasers for years, not taking anything for himself and this is his first foray into the world above in a very long time. It was so fun seeing him navigate the world that's changed so much since his last visit, and get closer to Borja at the same time. These two are so different at the start, but that's maybe more due to the times both live in, Borja being very much part of a modern world and Farnsworth being out that loop, as it were.

I wasn't disappointed with Farnsworth's story at all, it felt right that he was tasked with chasing down his very first horror and that part of the story was good too, it all worked very well and was a good read. I have very much enjoyed the world building and the concept of souls and chasers that Mia has created here.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

I had a good time with this book. Farnsworth has been there since book one, but now we actually get to see who he is and what his background was. There is a bit of a nod to H.P. due to what the baddie has done to escape, but I had a little giggle when I realized what was going on.

Borja Is a nice, easy going guy, that just had some bad luck happen to him. Luckily there is a group for that. He also gets a cute guide to help him on his first case. Borja helps Farnsworth learn about the modern Above world and Borja learns more about Farnsworth and his new job while also seeing the world with a new outlook.

I liked this book and it works very nicely as an ending to the series, but it could also keep it going if the author decides to write more in this world. I have enjoyed this series and I'm so happy that Farnsworth got to tell his side of things.

This one was really hard for me to rate/review. One one hand, I absolutely loved Farnsworth, and Borja was the perfect match for him. These two had so many sweet little moments of teaching each other things and even just hanging out, plus their chemistry was off the charts! But the Soul Chaser/Horror parts left me disappointed. There was all this build up, that this was such a terrible Horror, and we really didn't get to see much of it. The end also seemed a bit rushed to me. We had all this build up to a ton of action, then things were just....done.

Overall, while I loved these characters, the story left me a bit disappointed. I really wanted more for Farnsworth's story, and I didn't find it to be a great ending to the series.

I received an ARC of this book from the author and this is my honest review

I was so excited to read this one as it features Farnsworth. He is the spirit guide who welcomes all new chasers. He was done this job for hundreds of years but he is lonely. The book starts with a messenger holding a Manila envelope for him. He is confused as that it is not something a guide will do. When he reads what’s inside and that the first horror he put away is back, he is horrified. He also learns that he will be teaching a new chaser and that they would be partners. Borja was confused when he ended up with Farnsworth but he agreed to become a chaser. What follows is how they worked really well together while working on their relationship. Loved how it worked out and cannot wait to see what happens next.

Unruly is my first paranormal read of Mia’s, and this was a bit more of a slow burn than I was expecting. It’s quite a sweet story, and at first it reminded me a bit of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, and then I was getting more of a Shadowhunters feel as the story moved along.

Farnsworth is the absolute cutest, his naivety and old fashioned ways in the current world. I loved Borja’s personality, acceptance and attraction to Farns - it was a cute developing relationship. And there’s a bit of drama due to their mission and all that encompassed.

A little different to my usual type of read and the more I read, the more I enjoyed it. I liked the feel and atmosphere of this book, I’ll have to check out more.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

"This is wild. Like, on a level that makes it unclear whether I’m delusional or this is really happening."

This is the 3rd book in the Soul Chaser series. I'm so in love with this series and I hope it goes on forever. If you are a newsletter subscriber there is a short story prequel for this series as well.

I loved everything about this story and Farnsworth, oh my goodness how I love him. I'm so glad he got his own book, he's intrigued me from the beginning of the series.

A shared horror to vanquish, a brand new chaser to mentor, the Above has such surprising changes after so many centuries, opposites attract, first times, brings the heat

I was thrilled to dive into this story featuring Farnsworth, the lonely yet endearing spirit guide who’s welcomed new chasers for centuries. The mystery kicks off with a cryptic Manila envelope and the chilling return of the first horror Farnsworth ever faced. Paired unexpectedly with Borja, a new chaser, the two form a compelling partnership filled with growth, teamwork, and emotional depth. Their dynamic is both touching and entertaining, and I loved watching their relationship unfold. The blend of supernatural suspense and heartfelt connection made this a standout read—I can’t wait to see where the story goes next.

Ok I am so intrigued! I admit that I came into this series with this book. Not sure how I missed the first two, but it happened. I adored Farnsworth from the start. He doesn’t know why he is being sent on a mission after so much time, but he just rolls with it. Borja, the new chaser, is up for the challenge, even if he doesn’t get why he was chosen. Little do either one of them know what Fate or Destiny has in store for them both. It was a lot of fun watching Farnsworth loosen up a little and get caught up to speed with the modern times.

"Unruly" is the third book in the Soul Chasers series by Mia Monroe. I absolutely love this authors paranormal books and this book (and series) did not disappoint. The story pulls you in right from the start. I really enjoy the paranormal aspects, they get you thinking! Farnsworth and Borja are wonderful characters, it is great to get to know Farnsworth he is such an interesting character. Borja is super chill and enlightens Farnsworth on the modern world. Fate has something in store for these two and it is great watching it unfold.

Aww, Farnsworth! Dead but not. Alive but not. Living away from those who are alive, with only a hint of the above from time to time. Intrigued and confused by modern times, he has a wonderful partner to help navigate the world while tracking down a Horror of all horrors.

Borja, may be out of his depths as a Soul Chaser, but he definitely has a thing or two to teach the buttoned-up (literally) man who gave him his life back.

It’s a sweet romance - I’m so happy Farnsworth found love, and Borja too.

I was very happy Farnsworth got his own book. I was intrigued to learn more about him. The book felt quite short and I'm not sure if that was intended or not. The characters were interesting and layered but I would have loved a little less "fated lovers" and a little more work on the relationship development. The Horror's strategy reminded me of a certain children's book about a young wizard. It had the potential to pose a real challenge but I personally felt the resolution to that problem rather anticlimactic. This is by no means a bad book but I felt like it had the potential to be more.

The best book of the series! Love Farnsworth, and I'm so happy he got his own HEA, finally. Borja was the perfect choice for him, too. The dichotomy of memories & times was fascinating, and I loved how they worked together to get done what needed doing. They certainly faced a daunting challenge - several, in fact - yet true love triumphs again. Farnsworth is so cute, stodgy, yet passionate, the perfect match for Borja. Excellent series finale.

Farnsworth!!!!

I was super excited for Farnsworth's book and this did not disappoint. I loved the concept of him teaming up with a newbie and getting back to his 'roots' in a way. He and Borja were great together and I enjoyed the element of seeing the romance unfold while also getting some action. I'm hoping this isn't the last book in the series but if it is, then the series will have ended on a perfect note!

Of course the fates that be decided that Farnsworth and Borja were meant to be and put them together to find the horror that escaped.

Farnsworth & Borja

I liked that we get a story for Farnsworth. His relationship with Borja was entertaining and interesting to read. I was slightly disappointed with the ending for the capture of the Horror but the overall story was still very good.

I have been hoping for Farnsworth’s story from book 1 - a mysterious shadow that pops in and out of the Chaser’s lives and he finally gets his own HEA! Borja catches on quickly and adapts to his new life - being Farns’s guide is perfect. Action and mystery, heat and lots of spice - loved it! Fantastic supernatural series and great story!

Unruly is the 3rd, but hopefully not the final book in the 'Soul Chasers' series. I've really enjoyed this unique world that Mia has written, and I hope there's more to come. Farnsworth's naivete about the upper world gave the novel humor, while Borja's patience and willingness to learn were Farnsworth's perfect complement. Overall, this novel was a fun read, and I hope Mia returns to writing in this world someday.

standalone I read this one first now I have to go back lol

Unruly
I really liked this book. I got sucked in immediately. I did feel like the ending was really abrupt like we got the happily ever after obviously. But I still got to the last page and read the last line, and I still like turned the page like and then what and it was over. Maybe that's just his sign of how good it is that I've wanted there to be more usually. I'm like, oh my gosh, 75%. When is this book gonna end? So definitely didn't have that problem. This is actually a new series for me. It works fine as a standalone. There's enough information about the world and how things work. But now I gotta go read the other ones.Because this book was so good.

This is the third and final book in the Soul Chasers series and Farnsworth finally gets his fated mate. After centuries of guiding new chasers Farnsworth gets an assigned horror of his own. Only it’s one he banished before, and it should’ve been impossible for it to escape the below. He gets partnered with a new chaser, Borja, who will help Farnsworth navigate the modern world. As they chase the sneaky horror across Boston. However, the more time they spend together the more the chemistry between them heats up. While they started out as mentor/mentee they build a friendship designed by Fate to be their HEA. They will banish one of the most evil horrors ever and spend eternity with each other. If paranormal is your thing definitely check out this series.

**********Contains Spoilers**********

I really enjoyed this book and thought that it another good addition to the Soul Chasers Series. I also enjoyed getting to immerse myself in this magical world that Mia has created. I thought Farnsworth and Borja were great together and I enjoyed seeing Farnsworth up Above after all the centuries that he’s spent in the Underworld, as well as learning all about the modern world and experiencing things that he never got to while he was alive.

I thought that they make an amazing team and balance each other out. I’m really glad that Farnsworth finally got his happily ever after, as it was totally deserved. I’m looking forward to reading more from this series as it continues, as well as more books from Mia Monroe in the future. I’d definitely recommend this book, series and author to others.

******I received a copy of this book because I’m a member of Mia Monroe’s Patreon. I happily reviewed this book and I would do so even if I purchased it myself. My thoughts and feelings about this book are completely unbiased******
