Marilyn has been haunted by the same serial killer her entire adult life and has managed to escape several brutal encounters. When the killer who has been plaguing her for nearly a decade dies, she quickly becomes a local legend, drawing the attention of a psychiatrist who works exclusively with survivors of similar deviants. Dr. Dan offers Marily a unique opportunity to mentor his patients and assist in hunting down their predators for revenge. Their crusade uncovers dark secrets that may exceed their abilities.
I think this book was more of a me problem than the actual problem of the book. The premise of this book is great, and something I would 100% pick up. The revenge plot of a final girl is something I dream about reading, but I think for me the psychological aspects of this book got in the way for me.
If you suspend reality while reading this, I think you’ll have a good time. A lot of this book just wasn’t believable for me. We are following serial killers that haven’t been discovered or even brought to justice by law enforcement, and the duo are just able to find them and bring their own justice to them with very minor forks in the road? The book is almost “too easy” without many twists or turns until the very end of the book. Not only that but all their Marilyn has been chased by the same killer for pretty much her entire adult life and she just trusts Dr. Dan almost immediately? The book is long winded. There is a lot of internal dialogue and a lot of talk about psychology and therapy, and I think that’s where it really lost me. I was hoping more for the actual tracking/hunting down and revenge at the hands of victims of serial killers rather than the psychology of why this hands-on revenge is good for these victims.
The premise and idea of this book is a good one, and if you like the idea of victims of killers healing in their own kind of way I think this would be the perfect book for you. The psychological aspect of this one is very prevalent throughout the book but doesn’t outshine the gore that we all hope for in a good revenge story. The dark humor throughout the book makes this an enjoyable read along with the aspect of a true final girl that gives and takes no shit.

I want to think Andrew Adams for providing me with this ARC in exchange for a review. All opinions are my own.

I’ve read a few Andrew Adams books over the last few years and one things for certain…they never disappoint. This story starts off strong, letting up occasionally for a false sense of security, then sends you through more twists and turns on this rollercoaster from Hell. Leading to a twisted ending you’d have never thought of through how this story has been masterfully constructed!

Middle Finger Rigor Mortis by Andrew Adams is the kind of book that announces its intentions immediately, and those intentions are: buckle up, things are about to get weird. It’s wild, sharp, and entertaining in a way where you keep thinking, “There’s no way it’s going to go further than this,” and then it absolutely does.

What I loved most is how confidently unhinged it is. The humor is darrrrrk, the gore is unapologetic, and the characters feel like the sort of people you’d avoid in real life but can’t stop following on the page.

The pacing never lets up, it’s layer after layer of absurdity and pure dread. It’s bold, it’s gross, it’s weirdly brilliant, and it made me laugh out loud more than once.

If you like horror that has final girl vibes, breaks the rules, and leans hard into its own attitude, this is absolutely one to pick up.

Well… that was one hell of a ride. This book is chaotic, darkly funny, and completely unfiltered, just the way I like it. From the first page, I knew I was in for something wild, and Andrew Adams did not disappoint.

It’s the perfect mix of disturbing and hilarious, with characters that are so offbeat they feel almost too real. The story’s fast, unpredictable, and has that “what did I just read” energy that keeps you flipping pages.
Honestly, it’s gross, clever, and kinda genius, a middle finger to normal storytelling in the best possible way.

PS: Absolutely obsessed with this cover 🫶🏻 it’s giving all the right vibes!

📝 Short Summary
Marilyn has spent nearly a decade living in the shadow of a serial killer she barely survived. When she finally kills the man who has haunted her adult life, she becomes a local legend, drawing the attention of Dr. Dan, a psychiatrist who works with survivors of similar predators. What begins as an unconventional form of justice soon evolves into something far darker, as Marilyn and Dr. Dan mentor survivors and hunt down their abusers. Their crusade leads them deep into a brutal underground world filled with secrets they were never prepared to face.

Review
This book completely blew me away. From the first chapter, Middle Finger Rigor Mortis grabs hold and never loosens its grip. Andrew Adams delivers a dark, brutal, and emotionally charged story that feels both vicious and deeply cathartic. Marilyn is a powerhouse of a character, shaped by trauma but driven by agency, rage, and survival. Her journey is not sanitized or softened, and that honesty makes the story hit even harder. The concept itself is bold and unapologetic, exploring revenge, justice, and empowerment in a way that feels raw rather than glorified. The pacing is sharp, the violence purposeful, and the psychological tension relentless. What truly surprised me was the emotional depth layered beneath the brutality. Adams writes with confidence and control, balancing shock with substance and making every choice feel intentional. This was my first time reading this author, and I was genuinely impressed by how fearless and effective the storytelling was. This book does not play it safe, and that is exactly why it works so well.

✅ Would I Recommend It?
Absolutely yes. This is a must read for fans of dark horror and revenge driven thrillers who appreciate morally complex characters, brutal honesty, and stories that refuse to pull their punches.

🩸𝙈𝙞𝙙𝙙𝙡𝙚 𝙁𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧 𝙍𝙞𝙜𝙤𝙧 𝙈𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙨 // 𝘈𝘯𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘸 𝘈𝘥𝘢𝘮𝘴⁣

What a twisty, slasher’esque, gory, serial killer, good for her kinda book…. ⁣

Sooo, how it goes is….Marilyn has been plagued by the same serial killer almost her entire adult life. The killer has taken almost all of the people she ever cared about from her, but Marilyn has survived every attack. Then, when Marilyn gets her chance and finally kills the one who has been stalking her for so long. She suddenly has everyone’s attention, including Dr. Dan, a psychiatrist who works with other victims of similar killers. Eventually, Dr. Dan offers Marilyn the unique position of mentor his patients to follow in her footsteps and hunt down the predators in the name of revenge. But things can’t just be THAT easy…right? ⁣

My thoughts on this one? I absolutely loved the unique storyline…serial killer victim turned serial killer hunter. Plus, Marilyn is a pure bad ass- the entire definition of the word. She never shows fear when facing the most ruthless of killers, and is just BRUTAL! The whole book was wildly entertaining, and I found myself looking forward to the next kill; although, to be honest, sometimes the story did get a tad bogged down with the therapy talk and other aspects. I just hungered for that next stalking and revenge killing though. I just wanted to see the bad guys get their day! ⁣

This book is dark, a bit comedically so (which put a smile on my face), but it also is a great final girl, slasher, revenge horror thriller. ⁣

With a title like "Middle Finger Rigor Mortis," I was worried this would turn out to be horror comedy (which I don't really like); thirty pages in, my worries were confirmed - this was hilarious! Thankfully, 10 pages further the book got SOOOO DARK - comedy went out the window, and this tale of a final girl tormented by her own success slowly transformed into a twisty narrative of serial murder, gory payback, and kick ass portrayals of female rage and unbridled human evil!

I really enjoyed this one: it's weird, disturbing, and quite inventive. The idea of a final girl undermined by being too successful for her own good, partnering up with a male psychiatrist hell-bent on helping his traumatized patients at any cost, was truly entertaining and horrific. Coupled with a nice surprise when things have become totally chaotic and unhinged (and a bit repetitive), the tale becomes messy and unpredictable in the best of ways! In fact, after the middle-point of the book, I couldn't put it down!

It's important not to spoil the ending, since it comes out of nowhere, raising the stakes even higher. Thanks to Adams' skillful characterization, the story's escalating tension, and the occasional fanciful twist, the book reads like a horror thriller with strong slasher vibes, a fun tale with a shocking ending!

I recommend it highly!

Could you survive the same serial killer eight times? Marilyn did.

Middle Finger Rigor Mortis by @andrew_adams_author
Jaded by fame, she meets the killer one last time, but her fate isn’t quite sealed.
Enter Dr. Dan, a psychiatrist hell bent on helping others. They team up for some sweet vigilante justice. Chaos ensues.
Are they in above their heads?
Is Marilyn fit mentally for this work?
Does Dr. Dan have ulterior motives?

This novel was an absolute BLAST!
Each chapter is titled with a relevant topic to the chapter which gives a fun little “hmmm” into what you’re about to read.
It was wild, darkly humorous, and sharp. The horror and gore that accompany are perfectly incorporated to for laughs and fast pacing.
The book comes out the gate swinging, presses the gas, and doesn’t let up, not even on the last page.

So throw your middle fingers up, and get to reading this January.

This book is packed with the kind of dark humor Andrew Adams excels at weaving into his delightfully unhinged stories. It also delivers a satisfying dose of gore, which is always appreciated. Marilyn is the best kind of final girl. She’s fiercely confident, unapologetic, and impossible not to root for. The story drops you straight into the chaos and never lets up. Revenge is taken to a whole new level here, and the pacing is absolutely flawless, keeping you hooked for the entire gloriously fucked up ride.

I love when a book surprises me in the smallest ways, and this one did it right away because I spotted FUBAR in the pages. I have always known what it meant, but I have not heard anyone say it since my parents did growing up, so seeing it here genuinely made me laugh. As for the rest of the book, it was fun, even if it did not end up being a new favorite. The blood, the gore, and the creative kills were definitely the standout. I did not care much about the characters, but the story was still entertaining enough to keep me reading. It is fairly fast paced, chaotic in a good way, and full of dark humor. I am also obsessed with the cover and the title. The plot stayed unpredictable, and the ending was absolutely wild, I did not see it coming. Overall, it gives very final girl slasher vibes with its own twist on the trope.

When a plot twist happens pretty early in the book, it had me wondering, where else could this story possibly go now? A shocking scene happened so quickly, but I wasn't prepared for the answer.

The ending sold me. It snatched me back in from where I started to feel like I was drifting off a bit in the middle. I was assuming things all the time, just to be wrong about where it was actually going.

If you enjoy final girl or slasher tropes in horror, check this one out! I absolutely LOVE our tragically flawed, yet still so relatable MC. This one is gritty, gross, unpredictable and the twist ending is *chef's kiss*

This book offers plenty of twists, dark humor, gore. I enjoyed rooting the flawed and fucked up final girl MC. I must say the suspension of belief pulled me out of the story a little too often but still a solid read. That wild ending made up for any flaws.
