This book, a self-help/memoir hybrid by Judy C. Liming, features the steadfast beliefs of a deeply spiritual woman. Liming begins her story by detailing extraordinary hardships. A domestic abuse survivor who became pregnant as a teenager, she married her twin boys’ father only to suffer more abuse at his hands. Their toxic relationship had its ups and downs for years until it ultimately ended in divorce. Tragically, Liming has lost both of her sons, one of whom took his own life. Not only that, but she is a cancer survivor. Most in her position would give up, but Liming maintains a thriving spiritual life which she shares in this book. She divides the text into sections featuring the themes “redeemed,” “restored,” “remastered,” and “regenerated,” all in keeping with evangelical Christianity. She encourages a particularly personal relationship with Jesus Christ, emphasizing, for example, “I am” statements such as “I am God’s love” and “I am God’s light.” I must say that I do not espouse Liming’s embrace of traditional, patriarchal gender roles. Nonetheless, I applaud her for her incredible resilience. Reading this book was pleasant and uplifting.
This book truly lives up to its title. I can’t fully put into words what I felt while turning its pages, but I can say it felt sacred—like being invited to witness someone else’s intimate journey, their reckoning with the past, their pain, their growth, and ultimately their triumph. Experiencing her story through letters to her childhood self was emotional in a way I didn’t expect. I found myself applauding her vulnerability; it takes real courage to be that open, but it’s also absolutely necessary for a work like this. And that honesty radiates through every chapter.
What struck me most was seeing such clear, demonstrative growth. In pieces like this, it’s vital for the reader to feel a connection—to recognize pieces of their own life in the author’s reflections. I certainly did, especially when she spoke about ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) and the mindset that so often follows feeling not quite enough, feeling condemned or weighed down by what was never your fault. I also appreciated that the book leans biblically; her insights are grounded in Scripture, and for someone of faith, that matters. It adds depth. It adds resonance. I’m always drawn to books that leave the reader with something lasting, something that lingers long after the final page. This one did that for me—more than once. One of my favorite lines, and one I’ll carry with me, is “We are always in a moment of destiny. Destiny is an everyday reality.”
In conclusion, this book isn’t just a read—it’s an encounter. It sits with you. It challenges you. It invites you to revisit your own story with a gentler, more compassionate lens. And for those willing to engage honestly, it offers the possibility of healing, clarity, and a renewed sense of purpose. It’s more than worth the time; it’s a journey you’ll be grateful you took.
From Harlem Globetrotter to World Changer is one of the most uplifting and motivating books I’ve read in a long time. I picked it up expecting a typical sports memoir, but what I found was something much deeper. It is a powerful testimony about resilience, identity, and the impact one person can have on the world when they refuse to give up. Melvin Adams’ story is emotional and absolutely unforgettable.
This book helped me understand that true healing starts from within, not from changing our circumstances, but from shifting how we see them. This story showed me how to rise from grief with grace and gratitude. The practical exercises made the process of spiritual and emotional renewal feel attainable and real. It left me with a deep sense of peace and purpose.
I picked this book up during a time of doubt and left feeling renewed. The reflections on divine identity and practical activation steps helped me reconnect with my faith and inner strength. It reminded me that God’s love isn’t distant, it’s present in every struggle and every breath. This story filled me with gratitude for the beauty hidden in life’s pain.
I felt seen and strengthened reading this. The words spoke directly to my heart, reminding me that no heartbreak or illness can erase my divine worth. The stories of author’s own pain and transformation gave me courage to face my own trials. This book is more than a memoir, it’s a roadmap to rediscovering faith, freedom, and sacred joy in life’s hardest seasons.
Every chapter felt like a gentle invitation to rise again. This story is both humbling and empowering, a reminder that we are never too far gone for God’s love to restore us. The teachings on trauma, identity, and grace resonated deeply. I learned that my scars are not signs of weakness but proof of divine renewal. This book is pure hope in print.
This book was one of my best reads this year! The author, through personal life experiences and traumas, shares how she made it through. She so graciously offers up deep penetrating questions to help the reader find healing themselves. Such an awesome read!
Thank you Judy for sharing your life's journey with us. It's amazing to see and witness all that God will do for those who trust in His Gracious Love. This book is a testament to the faithfulness of God in all circumstances of life!
This book is a beacon of light for anyone feeling broken or exhausted. It encourages you to rise, to remember who you are, and to boldly claim joy again. I cannot recommend it enough.
