Interesting book, I didn’t love it but I didn’t hate it. Now let me tell you why.

The character development was excellent I enjoyed each character very much. I think what threw me off was the timeline, and how fast everything happened.

I loved Alicia right from the beginning; she didn’t take no gruff from anyone. I would have done exactly what she did. High Five!

‘I walked right past him, my head held high with all the dignity I could muster and walked out the front door. He didn’t even follow me and somehow, I felt relief.’ – Alicia – you go girl

I wouldn’t say having the guts to move was a strong point, I think it was a must. She loved it in New Zealand before and now that she had nothing holding her to the States why not take a job somewhere you love.
Meeting Tia like that was perfect she needed it.

Now here is where we get to my uncomfortable parts. Hunter is a great character; don’t get me wrong I swooned like nobody business. But she just went through this emotional time, he is healing and POW. Not the relationship I think that was great it was everything else.

Over all I enjoyed this book would I read more from this author YES, she the story flowed very well. I just didn’t happen to like how fast everything happened. Especially with all that happened before. =8o)

Going into this book I have never read a book by Theresa Troutman but half way through this story I knew it wouldn’t be the last one I read. This book caught me at the first sentence and had me till the last. I loved everything about this story from the writing style to the characters. Hunter and Alicia will capture your heart with their story of love and finally finding happiness.

Their journey to their HEA started with a friendship and a fresh start and ended with finding out that taking chances can lead to what you didn’t know what you wanted . This story starts out with Alicia finding her then Husband in a compromising position with one of his students which then leads her to taking on a once in a lifetime adventure in a land that opens up new opportunities not only for work but love .

In comes Hunter once broken by the death of his fiancé and not looking to get into a serious relationship but that was until he meet his new American neighbor and starts to fall for her.

This is a beautiful story of finding love and finding the strength to move on after headache. Set in beautiful New Zealand Ms.Troutman sets you up to be captivated and I have to say I love every minute of it.

I totally loved the story of these two people. It was one of the first books that I read by this author and she did a fine job of it,

Two characters both wit ha little bit of damage in their lives could come together and be with each other. They make each other happy and when they are together it's amazing what they do together,

Very well wrote,

Second chances is so much sweeter than the past.

Alicia had a hard past, where someone stomp on her heart and spit it out. She promised herself to fall in love again, because she doesn’t know if she can survive another heartache. After a few months picked up the life she has left and moved to Auckland, New Zealand to heal and to have a fresh start. Everything was great, then walk in sex on a stick Hunter. While having a tea with her new found friend Tia, walks in almost naked Hunter. Wow, she wanted to jump him right there and then. In the back of her mind she kept reminding herself, she’s there for a new start not to find a man.

 photo ByMySide-Teaser1.jpg

Then Hunter started coming around here, never leaving her alone too long with her thoughts. They went out and got to know each other. She finds out later Hunter had a tragic past, so he hasn’t let any woman in for years. Until she came along, Hunter only had hook ups with random girls and nothing more. Brought together by circumstances, their hopeful friendship turned into something more. They fell hard and fast. With the promise of a future together is their new found love enough to keep them together.

 photo ByMySide-Teaser2.jpg

This was a short read and I enjoyed the heck out of it. Hunter and Alicia were super sweet. I do wish the story was longer, to give them a more evolve love. Except for that the book is just the kind of sweetness I love to read.

Do you believe in second chances? In Theresa Troutman’s By My Side, she uses finding a second chance as her platform for her characters, Alicia and Hunter. They are both damaged by things that have taken place in their past and when they meet a spark is ignited. Maybe a second chance can heal their damaged souls.

Changing your home from America to New Zealand may seem drastic but for Alicia it is a way to start a new life and leave the past behind. A past of deceit and unfaithfulness by the man that had promised to love, honor and cleave to her until death parted them was a hard pill to swallow for Alicia. She left her ex behind and vowed never to let a man have that kind of power over her again. When she meets Hunter in an unexpected encounter, Alicia is not prepared for her reaction to him. Should she give him a chance?

One night stands and no commitment is the norm for Hunter since the death of his fiancé. He is haunted by her death and does not seem to be able to move past his lost. His time is spent playing with a band and avoiding relationships. Alicia walks into his life and things begin to change. Is this a second chance for love and HEA for them? Read and find out!

Alicia moves to New Zealand looking to start over. She was married for a year before catching her husband cheating on her. Alicia has a job she loves, but was able to keep the job with the move. She had no problem leaving the rest behind. She meets her sexy next door neighbor Hunter, and while she is attracted to him, she is not in a place where she wants to be in a relationship. Hunter has lived through a tragedy that has kept him from being in any serious relationships for years. Both quickly realize that their attraction to one another may not allow them to stay apart.

I liked this story and the characters. Alicia is easy to connect to. Hunter is hot and there really isn't anything identifiable not to like about him. The two of them together have great chemistry and are a great match. I think my main issue with this book was that there was no major conflict. Sure the characters have been through a couple tough situations, but from the time Alicia moves to New Zealand it is really all smooth sailing from then on out. Not that I wished for these characters to struggle, it just made me feel like there wasn't much going on story-wise. I enjoyed seeing Alicia find a group of friends as well as the supportive parents she never had in Hunter's parents. I guess with a nice easy story line like this one, I really need something more. More character development, etc. Overall, I would recommend this to someone looking for a nice easy read about characters finding happiness.

This book had captured my attention as I had read one of her books from her series Love's Great Adventure and what appealed most was that this book was to be set in New Zealand and since I am from New Zealand, I enjoy books set here. The book starts over in America with Alicia discovering her cheating husband and then escaping over here to make a fresh start. She moves to Auckland where she has an IT job and moves next door to Tia, Hunter and Mick. What I liked about Alicia is that she is quite naive and this made her character funny and made her more relatable. As the book goes along we read as Hunter and Alicia start gaining great chemistry and though neither is officially ready for a relationship, they both seem to work great together and they get all hot and heavy. If you love Second Chance New Adult romances, then this is the book for you. The only thing I didn't like about this book was the language as being from New Zealand , I am used to how we do things here and our language. The author used phrases like Kia Ora as hello since the character next door was Maori and the word Pakeha and tribe. I know often it can be difficult for American writers to grasp the different cultural differences and language. Overall though it was only tiny things that unless you are from New Zealand, you wouldn't notice or pick up. Honestly, if you are on the lookout for a lovely second chance at happiness and romance story then By My Side is the book for you.

BY MY SIDE by THERESA TROUTMAN

This is my 5th book (if I am not mistaken) by Theresa Troutman and she always gives you that real-feel every time you read her work. And that is one of the reasons why I like reading her stories. It's fiction but it has that real vibe and you will totally get the story even if you haven't experienced what her characters are going through and I like that she gives a HEA that you will end up wanting more.

By My Side is a story of a young woman wanting to have a new life after a nasty split from her husband and what happened next is far from what she had in mind but gave her so much more. The story is fast-paced and that's okay. I like it. No fuss, no drama just plain story that is sweet, realistic and sincere. I like it and I personally want more. I kinda think their story is not finished yet and I hope Theresa will write a novella or something. Hihihihihi

If you want a read that is simple, short and sweet then grab one of Theresa Troutman's books. You will enjoy it.

By My Side was the first book that I had read from Theresa Troutman, and I knew in the first chapter that it wouldn't be my last. This was a powerful story about second chances and I LOVED it.

Alicia is trying to escape her unhappy life in America. She's hoping to heal and start over when she moves to Auckland, New Zealand. Hunter has his own tragic past he's trying to deal with. He works in a bar, plays in a local band, and sticks to one night stands to distract himself from the pain. Fate steps in for these tortured souls when circumstances bring them face to face, and sparks fly.

I'll say it again, I LOVED this book so much! Hunter and Alicia's story captured my heart in a vice grip, and didn't let go. Theresa Troutment is brilliant in her character development. All of her characters, main and secondary, were simply awesome. She writes in such rich detail that I felt like I was actually in New Zealand the whole time I was reading the book. The book had all the emotional elements for an well written, compelling story. Honestly, I'm ready to beg for more of Hunter and Alicia, as I can't let them go. By My Side is a must read book!

Theresa Troutman brings to us a story about moving forward from our tragedies and learning to move forward. That letting go can bring you unexpected happiness when you least expect it.

Alicia is a Californian girl who finds herself in Auckland, New Zealand looking to reinvent herself. Not running away but running towards a new existence and making peace with what live brings us. She does not expect to find love along the way even in this exotic place.

Hunter has his own tragic past and love. He works in a bar to ease his sleepless nights as he plays in a band. One night stands are his way of escaping his pain that still haunts him.

When fate allows them to meet, can they manage to let their blossoming romance grow? Can they allow themselves to trust their love and most important each other or are they destined to be alone? Love is around us when we let it in.

Great book for a feel good read

*Spoiler alert*

Alicia gets great news about a promotion at work, when she goes to tell her husband (who is 10 yrs older), she finds him banging a chick on his desk at work. Alicia divorces him and moves to New Zealand for her promotion.

Second day there, and she meets Hunter, one of neighbors. Instant mutual love at first sight. Eventually we learn that Hunter's fiance drowned while surfing. We also learn that he's an alpha type male who goes after what he wants. And gets it. ;)
After a whirlwind courtship and LOTS of steamy sex, Alicia and Hunter get married. This book is somewhat open-ended, and I'm hoping that the author will turn this into a series, so that we can follow Alicia and Hunter's story, but that both Tia's and Mick's stories will be told.

I am reviewing this for Kylie's Fiction Addiction. I received this for free in exchange for an honest review.

This was an amazing story about second chances not only at romance but at life. Alicia discovers her husband has been cheating on her. She files for divorce and lands a job in New Zealand. Alicia is ready for a change in her life and her work. It is there that she meets Hunter. Hunter is still grieving the death of his fiancé. Hunter fills his time playing in a band and working in a bar. Hunter only knows one night stands to ease his pain. When these two meet they are both a little weary of starting a new relationship and wonder if they have what it takes to make it work. Their chemistry is instant but their fears tend to hold them back. I loved this story and this new genre for the author. She wrote a wonderful, sweet love story and I cannot wait to read more.

Alicia is married, gets a promotion and goes to tell her husband. Finding him in the arms of a student. She makes a rash decision. Check out her reponse to her husband and his things when she decides to leave him. Then, see what happens when she decides to reinvent herself, or find herself again, and takes a job on the other side of the world from everything she is used to. She meets some great new neighbors. See how her adventures change her and engulf her. This is definitely a book that will hopefully have more story arcs that come off of it. The others need their time too, not to mention it would be great to see what happens to Alicia in the future.

This was a fantastic book, very fast paced and interesting. I love the storyline and the characters. The characters really made the story flow. I absolutely loved Alicia and Hunter. Alicia walked in on her husband cheating on her, and after she divorced him she got a job in Australia . There she met Tia, Hunter and the rest of the gang. I really loved Tia, she is a fantastic secondary character. I really loved the chemistry that Alicia and Hunter had. It was a beautiful love story that I would recommend to my friends. I think this author is really brilliant and I can’t wait to read more from this author. Great Job.

By My Side by Theresa Troutman is the first book I have read from her and I enjoyed it. Alicia thought she had the perfect life. She just found out she got the big promotion at her job and she go to the college to tell her husband about it. She finds out her husband is cheating on her and now she wants to just leave everything behind. She moves to New Zealand and meets her neighbors. Hunter is one of those and he is a bartender and in a band. The Last thing she wanted was to fall in love. But love waits for no one. "Love isn't a train that runs on time."
Who loves a nice HEA?!
I do.
Sometimes..you just want to read a good short story that is nothing but a happily ever after..because sometimes people just deserve it.
Alicia surely did...and Hunter did too. Good thing Theresa Troutman* took a try at writing a little erotica, it was hot & sweet!

This story contains heartbreak, and sweet healing love.

This is Alicia and Hunter's story. After moving to a new place for her job Alicia meets Hunter who lives next door. Neither one of them are looking for love. Both have things in their past relationships that are keeping them from really moving on. Can they overcome the hurt and pain of the past to be able to be together? Or are they better off as friends?

I recommend this story.

Great read about starting over.

Loved this story. It took me a little bit to get into it but once I did, I fell in love with the characters. Hunter is gorgeous but not egotistical. Alice is a little bit shy but Hunter brings out her fun side. Loved to see these two get it right!

By My Side jumped right into the heart of the story from the first chapter. I was so proud of Alicia's strength and ambition for a fresh start in New Zealand. I was intrigued by Hunter and his seemingly mysterious past.
The writing in this book made the scenes play out vividly before my eyes. It was like watching a movie on paper. I enjoyed it immensely.
I loved watching Alicia and Hunter grow closer and closer, and I was on the edge of my seat wondering when they would take things to the next level and make their relationship official.
I will admit that I was expecting there to be a bit more of a conflict because of their pasts that would hold them back from wanting to be together and move their relationship along. However, I could also see them realizing how good they were for each other and taking the leap to be more. I loved the chemistry between Alicia and Hunter and was eager to see them go the distance. I love books where the author can get me to care so deeply for the characters. I am looking forward to reading more from Troutman soon.

~~~~~~~~~~Tracy's ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Review~~~~~~~~~~
Alicia personal life in the states was destroyed by her ex and her family. When her work offers her a job in Auckland, New Zealand she jumps at the chance to reinvent her life and concentrate on her job. She just wasn't expecting to meet Hunter, the hot alpha male that lived next door. Hunter is trying to get past his past and the last thing he expected when he walked downstairs to get coffee one morning in his boxers was the hot next door neighbor. Together Alicia and Hunter try to muddle through their painful pasts. This was such a good read about moving on and reinventing your life. I really enjoyed the characters, they seemed so real and someone you would meet in your life. They were genuine and emotional in a way that any reader could relate to. This story was so great and definitely a must read book that I couldn't stop reading.
“I kissed him again as my fingers intertwined with his hair and pulled hard until his head tipped back, giving me access to his neck. I trailed kisses along his jawline and down his neck, stopping to bite his ear lobe.”
Four stars. This book was a fun, fast paced read. There was serious heat between the main characters and the writing flowed well!
“Maybe it’s not what you’re running from, but what you’re running toward.”
Alicia travels to an exotic land, with hopes to reinvent herself. She moves to Auckland, New Zealand, to heal and escape her unhappy past in America.
Hunter works in a bar to distract himself from the memory of a tragic past. Playing in a local band and resorting to one night stands are his only means for an escape from his reality.
Brought together by circumstance, an unexpected romance blossoms between these two tortured souls.
Can being by each other’s side bring them the happiness they are desperate to discover? Or will being together break their fragile trust and lead to more heartache?
After walking in on her husband having sex with a student on his desk, Alicia decides it time for a change. Eight months later, divorced and looking for a change, Alicia moves to New Zealand. No friends, no family, only a job that waits for her. Moving into her flat she instantly finds a friend in Tia and her two male roommates. Alicia is instantly attracted to Hunter, the brooding but sexy pub worker, and not to mention member of a band, with his roommates. Alicia is guarding her heart, not sure if she’s ready to let anyone else in, but Hunter has his sights set on her. After a few casual encounters with Hunter he tells her he wants to take her on a proper date and explain why he’s so standoffish. Turns out his fiance’ was died from a freak drowning and like Alicia he’s guarded with his heart. That’s all it takes for Alicia to let her guard down and let love in. This story is about a whirlwind romance and a second chance at new love. I really loved this book, I read it in one sitting. Super cute and exciting to read!
