ARC Review: A Realm Of Myst And Dreams by JA Chapman

After just reading that line alone, I knew I had to read this book. I was fortunate enough to be accepted as an ARC reader, and I was not disappointed!
The main characters were unique with well fleshed out back stories, which made them so real and easy to fall in love with.
The story itself was paced well and flowed so smoothly. The spice was, well, spicy but did not overpower the storyline or seem out of place. It was truly a joy to read. I will be eagerly awaiting the next instalment in The Fae of Caeldonia series.

I received this book as a ARC and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book was so good! I loved that she took the fairytale aspect and made it the cross into reality. The twists and turns in this book had me never wanting to put it down.
The world building was so good. It felt like walking into a fairy tale of my own! The love between all the characters so was pure and sweet it was beautiful the way it was written. How everyone had everyone’s back.
Rowan was written in a way that was so relatable it was refreshing! Her relationship with Aenan was so stinking funny!! Seriously those two kept me in stitches and also made you envy how he’d have her back through it all.
Now let’s talk about Caelan 🥵🥵🥵🥵 LAWWDDDDDD!!! I seriously could not! There was a part where I thought it was all going south(if you know you know) but thankfully that wasn’t the case. He would burn the worlds for Rowan. And she’s there for it(so am I)! The spice was SPICYYYY and so realistic and well written. It didn’t feel overwhelming or overdone.
I also love that it didn’t end in a jaw dropping cliffhanger, although it did leave you wanting so much more!!! All in all this book was great and I can’t wait to see where everyone’s story takes them in book 2!!!

I was hooked on the first few pages! So many mystery’s, something to get your brain ticking for sure!
The romance oh my good god the romance, “good morning gorgeous.” Kissing the hand! Awww my knees are weak!

I most certainly have a new book boyfriend which I am NOT mad about he’s even made it to number one!…
Against Kai Azar too… very tough contender… but here we are at number one!
Anyway… enough about the romance…
The bonds between brother and sister are amazing! It literally shows how annoying brothers can be.. (lovingly of course.) but also how sassy sisters can be but when one’s in trouble the whole world gets ripped apart till you find them!
Then characters you HATE… that’s a strong word so I use it with force too!
Which shows good writing as you feel within yourself feelings for all characters some amazing some you just want to ughhhh!!!!
I felt so much reading this book a lot of emotions to work through to OH MY GOSH! To are you kidding me are you blind… Seriously someone kill them already…
I’m a pretty expressive reader… so I’m kinda glad I wasn’t being watched, people would have thought me mad…
Also it’s the first book to actually make me laugh out loud multiple times.

She has always felt different, like she didn’t quite belong, and the loss of her parents propels her on a journey of self discovery to a place she has always felt called to but has never dared venture.
Rowan heads into the unknown as she stumbles into the fae realm on the eve of Samhain and uncovers the truth buried by her family 25 years prior.
A Realm of Myst and Dreams captured my interest immediately from page one. We are thrust into a world of beauty, magic, temptations, and secrets. The romance element did move a little quicker than I prefer (I love a slow burn), but the character development, world-building, and plot were well thought out and moved at a good pace to keep me invested in the story. The last half was full of both action and heartbreak, deepening my connection to our FMC and to her character arc. The epilogue definitely leaves us on a cliffhanger with a lot of questions heading into book two.
If you’re craving a cozy adventure full of mystery and romance and are into fated bonds, fae lore, prophecies, found family, hidden identities, and magical gifts, I highly recommend diving into the world JA Chapman has crafted!

I enjoyed this read so so much! The little poems at the start of each part was so good. Caelan is so wholesome, I love how he calls Rowan little bird. I will say it got to a point where everything felt too perfect, like something was bound to go wrong. But the actual 'obstacle', my was I shocked and I ended up being like how is Rowan not piecing these two things together, like it's plain as day she's being deceived. Yeah I may have had a moment talking to my partner and dogs. Honestly it frustrated me how obvious it was but I get why it was written that way, I think my reaction demonstrates that. It's like when you're watching a horror movie yelling at the character about to die (like no one can hear me but I'm gonna yell anyways).
Anyway's I was so glad when Rowan got through it all and started to 'fly' again. Also the sisterly brother bond was on point, from the annoying eachother to actually being there for eachother in a crisis. If you don't have siblings just know this is very much what it's like. Oh and the quickening, wow just wow cause i wasn't expecting it to be like that. Honestly this book is written sooo well and am looking forward to reading book 2.

Captivating and Fresh
A Realm of Myst and Dreams by J.A. Chapman completely pulled me in from the very beginning. I absolutely loved the concept of a changeling and a human being fated mates — it felt fresh, magical, and emotionally charged in all the best ways.
This story was captivating from start to finish. The world building, the mystery, the tension, and the connection between the characters kept me fully invested the entire time. I loved watching their relationship unfold while navigating everything stacked against them.
There was such a dreamy, enchanting atmosphere throughout the book that made it hard to put down. If you love fantasy romance with fate, magic, and emotional depth, this one is definitely worth picking up. I cannot wait to read more from J.A. Chapman!

This one deserves to be on more people's TBR!! I was excited to read this in advance of my ARC of Book two, and I was so pleased with it.
Our FMC is a fae changeling that grew up in the modern human world (Scotland). Outside of a couple chapters in the beginning, this book takes place in the faerie realm when she is drawn back during solstice. Her found family elements in the fae world were great.
She VERY quickly meets her bonded mate, some insta love/lust there. But overall, their relationship develops well after that.
There is some darker elements with torture and SA when she is abducted in the mid portion, but it didn't feel gratuitous and fit the plot line.
Overall, I'm really excited to start the next book in the series!

If you love a "hidden world" discovery story, this is a must-read! The plot is incredibly unique and manages to be a total page-turner while remaining easy to follow.
My absolute favorite part was the FMC’s journey. Watching her step into a realm she never knew she belonged to, and discovering her true self in the process- was so rewarding. There is something so moving about her finding out that she wasn't just a stranger in this world, but someone deeply loved and missed.
The sibling bond is also written beautifully and adds so much heart to the stakes. A beautiful story of coming home to yourself!

After years of reading Fantasy and Romance (Romantasy) I was so pleased with the change of locations and the interconnections of realms. This is the first book I have read that was woven around Scotland and its traditions and folk lore. I truly enjoyed this.
I read this book so I can ARC read the second. I’m hoping that the author works on world building and character development a bit more. I think this would truly bring the books to life for me.

I enjoyed this book and how easy it was to lose myself in the fantasy world of the Fae. There was twist and turns, spice, found family, and fated mates.
For me, there was a new take on bonds that I really enjoyed, and the whole world building and characters were really enjoyable.
I love how different the 2 Realms and the way they interwine are. I laughed, I gasped, and I cried throughout this book, I'm looking forward to book 2 because this does end on a cliffhanger.
The characters are so well written.

It was a bit insta love/lust in the beginning but as you continue reading it all makes sense. This didn’t take away anything from the book for me. I was rooting for them the whole time.
I think the world building in this was good and the plot was great. Full of twists and turns.
I loved the magick in this, very unique and different from other books. And I really enjoyed that.
The last few chapters did me in I was crying sat there in absolute shock over what had happened.
And then crying happy tears 🥹
I cannot wait or jump into book two.

This is a unique fantasy with lots of great world building! You’ll find fated mates, soul bonds, prophecies, fae, and the perfect amount of spice. You will be intrigued from start to finish!
Rowan is one of the most relatable FMCs. She struggles with the feeling of not belonging and self doubt. I loved how things started to click for her as the story progressed.
The bond between Rowan and Aenan was amazing! I enjoyed how quickly their bond strengthened and their banter. I am hoping for more of Aenan’s story in the future!
Caelan is perfection! He is full of green flags. From the moment Rowan and Caelan meet, Caelan would do anything for her. I can’t wait for more of them together.
The ending was a jaw dropper!! I am anxiously waiting for the next book!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel — the kind of story that turns “just one more chapter” into staying up far too late to finish, and it was entirely worth it.
As a Scot, I especially appreciated the subtle Scottish themes interwoven throughout the narrative. Although the story begins as a slow burn, it gradually draws the reader in until it’s impossible not to become deeply attached to all three main characters.
The book evokes a sense of Outlander infused with elements of magic, creating a beautifully atmospheric and immersive world. I found myself reading it in a single day, completely captivated by the unfolding plot.
The ending was both unexpected and thrilling, leaving the story on a cliffhanger that ensures readers will eagerly anticipate the next installment. Unlike many novels where the direction feels predictable, this one continually surprised me. The author’s world-building, character development, and emotional depth are truly outstanding.
At one point, I was so moved that I found myself in tears — a rare experience for me as a reader — which speaks volumes about the story’s emotional resonance.

Rowan always thought she was just a normal girl in the human world, until strange things start popping up revealing she may not be who she thought she was. A lost identity? A bond that’s existed her whole life without her knowing? The fairy tales were true this entire time…🦋
The world-building is done perfectly. You really get a beautiful image in your head of exactly what is happening. The blend of fae and humans created such a mesmerizing contrast. I truly loved this entire book! Not once did I feel out of touch, or bored, it was full of action and adventure while learning the truth behind her new life. 🧚🏼♀️

Did I use my flexitime to leave work early and finish this book, why yes I did! I really enjoyed this, its a fairytale dipped in darkness and it's giving Brother's Grimm vibes because of it. I loved it and I cannot wait for the next installment 🖤.

Firstly, I love a book based in Scotland. The country is gorgeous and the world building was beautifully written to encapture that.

You cant help but fall for Rowan, our FMC, she is just so normal and relatable. She is full of insecurities and doubts that have followed her throughout her life yet she's so full of hope and so damn strong when her world is turned upside down and darkness closes in around her. Did I use my flexitime to leave work early and finish this book, why yes I did! I really enjoyed this, its a fairytale dipped in darkness and it's giving Brother's Grimm vibes because of it. I loved it and I cannot wait for the next installment 🖤.
I could give away so many spoilers because I am dying to talk about this book, so I really had to police myself with this review.
Firstly, I love a book based in Scotland. The country is gorgeous and the world building was beautifully written to encapture that.
Rowan
You cant help but fall for Rowan, our FMC, she is just so normal and relatable. Honest opinion given on this wonderful book I received as ARC:
Okay, listen. I did that thing again — you know, the Bookworm Emergency Stop. I literally paused reading because I saw how many minutes I had left on Kindle and went, “Nope. If I don’t finish, it can’t end.” Perfectly logical, right? 😂 I literally stopped reading this book for two days, yes two days, so the story wouldn’t end.
But here’s the thing: A Realm of Myst and Dreams by JA Chapman deserves that reaction!! This isn’t just another fantasy romance: it’s a whole experience. It’s like walking into the Scottish Highlands and finding the mist whispering secrets meant only for you.
Rowan completely stole my heart. She’s this beautifully flawed, quietly fierce woman who doesn’t realise she’s meant for something more — until she quite literally steps through a veil of mystery and into the fae realm of Caeldonia. The writing? Absolutely addictive. Chapman doesn’t just tell a story; she weaves a spell. I swear you can almost hear the accent of the Highlands in her book. And those Scottish words sprinkled throughout? Chef’s kiss. It made the world feel alive!
And then there’s Caelan. My current fictional emotional husband. Dreamy, strong, devoted — if he showed up with a bow of moonlight and an accent that could melt snow, I’d simply perish. 🫠 I’ll happily accept him as my birthday and Christmas gift, for years to come that is.
The worldbuilding is lush, magical, and somehow both wild and comforting at the same time. There’s danger and darkness, but also warmth and the sense of home that Rowan has been craving her whole life.
If you love stories where love feels like destiny, where the air hums with magick, and where fairytales are maybe a little too real: this book will sweep you away and not disappoint you whatsoever. Wow, I’m blown away by this book. My ratings are usually formed based on a book’s ability to make me feel, and this book did not disappoint.
Rowan, Caelan and Aenan are all so lovely, their banter and bonds are top tier and make you feel as if you know them.
You’ve got a sweet, fiery, *Scottish* MMC who you will instantly fall for.
You’ve got the perfect brother. Teasing, protective, supportive.
And you’ve got a strong, fierce FMC who finds her home in the most unexpected way. Totally not afraid to give the bad guys a big “F you”
I also loved the secondary characters; these are well developed characters that you can’t help but root for!
I love the hints to Scottish heritage and folklore, especially having ties myself, and the portrayal of the fae. Honestly, if Caelan said “lass” to me, just once…
While I loved the world building and getting to know our characters, there are some HEAVY themes within this book. Part 3 was particularly heavy. If you don’t like the trigger warnings of this book, I think you could miss out most of part 3 and it would still be a great read! You wouldn’t have all of the experiences of the characters but it would still make sense.
Dark and light, good and evil, are explored throughout this book and in such a humanising way. To see Rowan struggle with her darkest thoughts (that we all have) was so validating and relatable. Her vulnerability in places is just so raw and my heart broke several times.
I have a lot of feelings about this book and hopefully I’ve done it justice! It’s very clearly the start of a bigger story and I cannot WAIT to read more.

I was very intrigued by the premise of this book, and the author’s writing made for an atmospheric and immersive world that I could really picture myself in. However, I found the pacing of the narrative somewhat off putting—everything happened so suddenly, but not in an exciting, dynamic way. It was more jarring than anything. The relationship dynamic between Rowan and Caelan progressed in much the same way, and it came across as inauthentic. As such, I was unable to get properly invested in them as a couple.
That being said, I liked Rowan as the FMC. I feel that her character was well-rounded and interesting, with enough unique qualities to make her stand out from other FMCs in this genre. And, again, the world-building was done beautifully, and I particularly enjoyed the description of the festival that Rowan attended.
Overall, I thought this book was a little predictable with some inelegant dialogue (“…or a boyfriend waiting for you back home?”—you’re not subtle, Caelan!), teases that were too obvious (the brother’s hair, anyone?), and reveals that weren’t reveals (I wasn’t surprised by who Caelan was really). But, it did keep me reading until the end, so I’ve given it three stars.

It’s safe to say I was hooked from this book from the start! I instantly fell in love with Rowan and the journey she set out on. And yes I’m biased as she is my birthday twin 💫 I love a book with a strong FMC so this was right up my street. The world building in this book is amazing! I love that I was able to fully immerse myself into the realm of Caeldonia and learn all about how that world and their magic works 🧚
Trying to keep this review spoiler free but I loved seeing the relationships develop between Aenan, Caelan and Rowan. It’s beautiful to see how they brought each other up and had such love between them. Being able to see how strong their connection becomes and how it develops is so heartwarming.

Wow... this read was a very pleasant surprise, I wasn't too sure what to expect but we had fae, found family, Fated Mates, lost identity, gifts, the right amount of spice and a few surprises along the way! I can't get enough!!
I was pulled in right from the beginning and really felt Rowan's raw emotions as she followed her journey to find the truth and got pulled into the magical land of Caledonia.
The book did had a much slower pace than I'm used to but that was far from a negative and this allowed the world building and character development to really come into play and enabled you to visualise Caledonia in all its glory. This was beautifully woven into the book and was very easy to grasp. The characters were fun and loveable and the multiple POV were such a treat.
I got to about 60% through and the plot really kicked up a notch and I could not put this down. You really felt like you were there, feeling and seeing everything... I can't wait to see what the next installation has in store.

Wow... this read was a very pleasant surprise, I wasn't too sure what to expect but we had fae, found family, Fated Mates, lost identity, gifts, the right amount of spice and a few surprises along the way! I can't get enough!!
I was pulled in right from the beginning and really felt Rowan's raw emotions as she followed her journey to find the truth and got pulled into the magical land of Caledonia.
The book did had a much slower pace than I'm used to but that was far from a negative and this allowed the world building and character development to really come into play and enabled you to visualise Caledonia in all its glory. This was beautifully woven into the book and was very easy to grasp. The characters were fun and loveable and the multiple POV were such a treat.

Rowan was the beating heart of this book for me. She’s not a flawless heroine. She doubts, she falters, but she never stays down. Her strength is in how she keeps going, even when everything feels impossible. I connected so deeply to her resilience and her quiet fire.
And Caelan? He’s the kind of fae that makes you feel safe and undone at the same time. There’s a tenderness in him that balances the darker edge of this world. The chemistry between him and Rowan is undeniable, slow, intimate, and absolutely charged.
The mist concept was one of my favorite elements. A bridge between worlds that felt both magical and menacing. Chapman’s descriptions are vivid without being heavy; the fae courts, shifting lands, and dreamlike tension all came alive on the page.

A Realm of Myst and Dreams was a story that swept me away with its immersive world-building and dreamlike narrative. I liked the links to Scottish folklore and the introduction to The Fae of Caeldonia. I only took 2 days to read this!! Chapham kept this fast pace, there was always something just around the corner, and I found myself saying, “just one more chapter” far too many times. The relationships between the FMC and MMC felt deeply human — full of love, vulnerability, care and of course a bit of spice.
It was a 4 star and not a 5 star, as I felt like there was a lot left unanswered at the end of the book, it might however be picked up again in following books. That said, if you’re looking for a fantasy read with a strong romantic core, rich atmosphere, and a unique Scottish twist, A Realm of Myst and Dreams is definitely worth adding to your TBR. I’m already looking forward to what’s next in the series!
