The book went on to win the Blackbird Award and became an Icelandic bestseller. In 2021 The Creak on the Stairs won the British Crime Writers Association (CWA) New Blood Dagger.

I am needing to review this set as separate books. Books 1 and 2 I bought as individual books and posted apart from this one but right now this review pertains to book 3:
NIGHT SHADOWS:
Another splendid offering in the series. I was so lucky to have grabbed this version of these books in one at the end of June at a bargain price. It is one of my favourite buys of the year. I had already bought 1/2 but even just needing 3/4/5 this was a superlative purchase !
Certain parts near the beginning of this story did baffle me at first. They sort of made sense the further in I read but I had a while of utter bafflement. So it's written in a bit arse-about-face order. I can't really explain it better than this. I also found it hard to believe that a young guy in his late teens would keep his mobile phone in a pocket of a jacket in his wardrobe. Let's face it, they're usually welded to their hands !
There were some secretive goings-on with these family members. You think one makes some outrageous choices then learn other family members are really not as white as snow themselves. I did laugh to myself when one husband was remembering his life changing after having a son.....saying if he'd known the upheaval on its way he'd have though twice. This is bearing in mind that said father went on to have 2 more...go figure !! Our main heroine Elma has herself a life-changing decision to make in this instalment and I look forward to seeing where life is taking her in the next books. This case kept her plenty occupied enough dealing mainly with teenagers and things they get up to with each other. Being in a tiny town there are a few cross-over relationship issues here and there and throw young au pair girls from foreign countries into the mix, too......I enjoyed it very much.
She wrote baby-grow not baby-gro and didn't capitalise Pot Noodles and there were a couple of apostrophe mistakes but that was it for any mistakes catching my eye.....although I did spot right at the end in the "About the Author" pages that on one page John Creasy was spelt wrong but on the next page was written correctly as John Creasey.
Once again Victoria Cribb has done a tremendous job on the translation. I'll be coming back to book 4 at some point. I don't ever binge a whole series at once. I always think I'd get fed up with the characters if I did that.

There are five books in this one download. “You can’t see me” should be read first, but given how it is written, which differs from the other four books, it could deter the reader from reading the others. The remaining four books are a good read, the last I would say was the best.
