The mother of five children, Kylie Brant claims she began writing to save her sanity. Plotting stories became her method of escape from the reality of constant ball games, chauffeuring kids, and refereeing "minor" disagreements between her perfect offspring.

In 1992 she was elated to get a call from Silhouette offering to buy her second novel. Home with laryngitis at the time, she still managed to croak out agreement, and her career was born. A few months later she went on to sell Rancher's Choice, the first manuscript she’d written.

Kylie is married to her high school sweetheart, and they make their home in Iowa. She insists that all her heroes are based on her husband of 23 years because he possesses that most heroic of make qualities — ironing skills. Those abilities come in handy, as she juggles a full time teaching job with writing and a family.

Doing things the easy way has never held much appeal for this multi award-winning author. She graduated with high honors from the University of Northern Iowa. A graduation photo shows her in cap and gown holding her two sons, one aged 16 months and the other three weeks. She went on to obtain a teaching job working with learning-disabled children while completing her master’s degree at night and during summers.

"There was a time in my life when I could imagine myself as a life-long student," she recalls. "I actually toyed with the idea of pursuing a doctorate. But instead, my life took a spin and I ended up writing romances. I’ve never regretted it!" Her family has since been completed by the birth of another son and a set of twins, a boy and a girl.

Kylie’s books are regularly featured on bestseller lists such as Waldenbooks and B. Dalton Bookseller. With over a million copies of books in print, her novels have been distributed in 20 countries and released in seven languages.

Family and friends are the main focus of Kylie’s life. When she isn’t writing or teaching, she enjoys reading and flower gardening. She loves traveling, preferring beach, ocean, and room service.

I accidentally bumped into this story in Dangerous Passions: 12 Tales of Contemporary Sexy Hot Alpha Heroes - Cops, Navy SEALs, Marines, Military, FBI Agents, Secret Agents, Police Captains, Spies, and More. I purchased this anthology earlier because of another story and I totally forgot about it.
So I was browsing on my Kindle to find something to read, saw this title and clicked on it to see what it was.

11 by Kylie Brant was the first story. I started to read and couldn’t put it down.

Thriller is not my favorite genre, but this one was really captivating.

Eleven. For three long years that’s what she was called by The Collector, the sexual sadist who enslaved her. Five years after escaping from him Mia Deleon stops hiding and teams up with security expert Jude Bishop to track her former captor.

Creepy and engaging storyline, great writing style and characters. Recommended!

Fantastic mystery/suspense/thriller with a side of romance. Great characters with imperfections that only make them realistic and engaging. What's not to love? Ms. Brant is a master at writing romantic suspense, and now I must track down her entire backlist.

They call him The Collector. He’s been abducting women for years .. and only one has escaped. He called her Eleven.

After several years of being held captive, beaten, raped, tortured, she found a way to escape. Unfortunately, there is no evidence to support her story. Not the shaved head with the # 11 tattooed on it.. not the scars. Even her family won’t believe her.

Fast forward 3 years .. Mia has been on the move in places like Vietnam under an assumed identity. Only one man knows where she is. Jude is a security expert that she turned to after she escaped. And when she spots him in Vietnam, her spidey senses are in full force.

A body has been found … a young woman with a shaved head and the number 8 tattooed on her head.

Thus begins the hunt for The Collector.

Every thread they pick at unravels leaving more threads. Mia never saw his face, so it’s like looking for a needle in a haystack. They seem to be making headway … until The Collector rears his ugly head and captures Mia again.

The writing is absolutely mesmerizing. The Collector is one of the most heinous sexual sadists I have seen outside of Criminal Minds. There is great character development, especially the relationship between Mia and Jude. They are both broken … her scars are inside, his are outside. But together, they’re a terrific team.

This one was hard to put down from the very first page. And the suspense is palpable until the very last page. Kylie Brant also has written the Mindhunter series … which is also superb.

WOW!!! WOW!!! WOOWWW!!!!

Now this is a really momeorable, fantastic book!!!

The incredible way Ms. Brant tells a truly terrifying story is just amazing!

The main characters, Mia and Jude are plain fantastic!

The story is like watching a cross between CSI and Criminal Minds with all the terror and incredulity a thought about such monster exising brings on.

Every their action, reaction, thought is so real-life and so true that's really amazing!

There's only one tiny, teeny problem: the monster's reasoning and what made him the way he is was downplayed.

But it didn't detract from my nail-biting enjoyment!

A truly great book highly recommended for all the fans of romantic suspense!

Oh the sick and twisted things authors can come up with. It’s been a while since I’ve read Kylie but the title of the book grabbed my attention and wouldn’t let go. I knew during the first chapter that the book was going to be a good one and I was not disappointed. An added bonus was seeing Adam Raiker back – who is from her earlier series Mindhunters.

The significance of the number is that is what the bad guy calls the women he kidnaps and “trains” to be the perfect women by torturing and raping them into submission. Mia was the one he called 11 and she was the only one to ever escape him. Its been five years and she has been on the run ever since but when a body of a woman is found, Adam has his suspensions that she is of one of the women who was held captive with Mia and goes to Jude Bishop who gave Mia protection after her escape and eventually fake identities to leave the country with to see if he can locate her so he can question her.

I saw in the dedication at the beginning of the book that the author thanked the person that helped her with location information for Vietnam. Those chapters that were in Da Nang were very captivating and some of the best in the book.

This held your attention from beginning to end. The author pulled no punches in having both the main characters having sick and horrific past. They were two broken people who had to learn to live again but were never going to be normal. I hope this is the start of a new series because this was fantastic and I would love to read more about the other men and women that worked for Jude.

I'm a fan of Kylie Brant's Mindhunter series, but 11 qualifies her in my mind among the top thriller writers of this generation. Gutsy, fearless and incredibly smart writing, Ms. Brant takes the reader from DaNang Vietnam back to the US all while Mia Deleon aka 11 tries to outrun a madman desperate to return her to his collection. Mia is about as tortured a heroine as I've ever read and Jude Bishop the perfect match for her. Ms. Brant's knowledge of technology, law enforcement, the human psyche had me flipping pages to see what would happen next. 11 is why thriller readers read. Kylie Brant weaves the mystery, suspense, heartache like the seasoned pro she is. Full of surprises, I was on the edge of my seat, and I absolutely adored the believable relationship she created between Mia and Jude. Pinky swear.

Having read the Kylie Brant's ("Brant") Mindhunters' series and quite enjoying them, I didn't hesitate to give "11" a try, and I'm so glad I did. Once again Brant weaves a terrific tale of suspense and mystery, with a little romance thrown in, engaging the reader right from the start. The fact that she includes Adam Raiker from the Mindhunters' series was surprising and quite intriguing. That and the protagonists, Jude and Mia, two very strong and complex characters, both of whom have endured unspeakable horrors at the hands of sick, vile members of the human race. What I really appreciated was how the romantic angle came about slowly. Jude having dealt with Mia five years earlier, didn't think much of her then and certainly didn't give any thoughts to her now until Adam Raiker requested to see her. Five years earlier, Mia claimed to have been kidnapped, tortured, and raped for three years by a man she dubbed "The Collector." After escaping, no one believed her story. Not the police, the private detectives she hired, and certainly not her father. Jude still questions her claims, and once he catches up with her, clearly lets her know that he doesn't have any trust in her. With the discovery of a murdered girl, and other bits and pieces that corroborates Mia's claim, Jude realizes how wrong he was to quickly dismiss her, judging her based on how she was perceived by newspapers. With Mia being tired of always being on the run, and having recently found by one of The Collector's subservient, Mia decides once and for all to find The Collector even if it means at the cost of her life. Like I mentioned earlier, it took quite a while to get to the romance that slowly develops between Jude and Mia. I was quite surprised and disappointed at how little was spent on their personal relationship. I would've loved to have read more about their feelings for one another. No matter, I'm just grateful there was no "insta-love" or quickly falling into bed.

As much as I enjoying reading this novel, I found "The Collector" to be a little bland. Yes, he's vile and cruel, but perhaps more about him and his treatment of the girls would've shown just how sadistic he really was.

I was a little disappointed with the ending. I honestly thought Mia's father would've re-entered her life apologizing for not believing her and basically not recognizing her as his daughter.

I'm not sure if "11" is part of a new series, or if it's just a stand-alone. Regardless, I highly recommend this novel for those who truly enjoy reading novels of full of suspense.

11 is a winner

Kylie Brant has constructed as evil an antagonist that I've read. The underlying fear as a reader couldn't come close to that of his victims, but that's what made it so powerful. Mia is a complex, damaged heroine and Jude the damaged hero who find one another in this complicated yet simply evil scheme. A psychological thriller that will keep you turning pages.

Good murder/mystery. Interesting characters. The only thing I wish the story had shown the main characters father and family in reaction to seeing the truth emerge.

If only it didn’t have the sex scene. I haven’t heard one in an audio book before and I suddenly felt like I was listening to soft porn 😣😂🤦🏽‍♀️

I enjoyed the storyline. I like the idea of the collector and he he went about acquiring his collection.

There were some cheesy cliche’ lines I wasn’t a fan of though. They made me groan/cringe. Otherwise it was average; not bad, not awesome.

Overall I really liked this book. It had a lot of action and I liked the characters of Mia and Jude.
There aren’t any big revelations or surprises but I happy with the ending.
The only thing I didn’t like was the cringy love scene described like something out of a Harlequin romance novel.

One-Sentence Summary: A security expert swears to protect a former kidnap victim when her past catches up with her

Review: THIS BOOK!!!!!

I have been dying to read a truly good romantic suspense novel for quite some time and I finally found it.

This book ticks all the boxes because as well as some delicious heat between the Hero and Heroine there is an actual plot with an evil bad guy. A character from another one of Brant's books, 'The Mindhunters' series makes an appearance but if, like me, you haven't read that series then do not worry because you are not expected to know anything about them and it doesn't hinder the story in any way.

For those of you expecting a romantic suspense, heavy on the romance then you might be disappointed. Because of Mia's past and what she went through when she was kidnapped, the romance is very slow burn (but don't worry, they do finally act on it!) and the focus is more on the suspense part but you barely have time to miss the minimal sexytimes - Why are plots involving sick and depraved bad guys always the most interesting? I don't know, but the plot of this one could have come straight from an episode of Criminal Minds.

I won't say anymore because I don't want to spoil the plot but needless to say if you are a fan of either romantic suspense or simply just into gripping crime thrillers then you need to read this book pronto!

A well written at times intense read

I really enjoyed this book. This is the first time I've read anything from this author and it definitely won't be my last. This was a really well written book that had its intense moments with a touch of romance. Exactly what I like in my books. It could use some work in the grammar and spelling department, but that has never really bothered me, nor does it detract from the book. I would definitely recommend this book to anybody who likes a good intense read with a just a touch of romance. It's not a who dunnit tho as you find out part way through, so don't think it's a mystery in that way.

This was dark and brutal, a clever book. It tells the story of 11 aka Mia Deleon who was kidnapped and held captive by a brutal creep years ago. She managed to escape but has been on the run for five years. The "collector" wants to recapture her and return her to his collection. Although 11 is damaged and broken, she is also very gutsy as she fights to put an end to the horror for once and for all and free the other victims. This was much better than I thought it would be - compulsive page-turner.

I`m thrilled I found a new author to adore !

This is my second book, and will definitely not be the last.

The writing is gorgeous, the story action packed. I believed every word.

Even the sex scene was well handled - in the fact that both hero and heroine had been sexually abused...and this was their first time to trust again and be intimate with someone.

Mia is the victim of a well-known kidnapper named The Collector. She managed to escape, but has to go into hiding when no one really believed her story. Now The Collector is after her again, and, with the help of a new bodyguard, she's determined to take him down and rescue The Collector's other victims. A good mystery. Very intriguing. The only downside was the idea that Mia would be able to sleep with someone so quickly.

Mia Deleon had spent three torturous years in the hands of a sadistic sexual predator before managing to escape. Yet she's never been able to really enjoy her freedom. Her kidnapper and torturer has never been found because no one had really believed she'd been taken, and even after she left the country her backpack packed with multiple assumed names, she's kept looking over her shoulder, expecting the monster to find her any day.

Until he did...

But Jude Bishop, the man who helped her disappear five years before, got to her first. A tenuous link to her case has been found by the Mindhunters and Jude has been tasked with bringing her back to the States.

But the monster is also on her tail, determined to bring her back, and keep her forever this time.

An interesting, intense and rather gripping (at times) thriller that could've easily done without the poor attempt at romance.

The story was engaging, the pacing appropriately fast, and the characters interesting (although the heroine did make a few strange/bad decisions along the way). Well-written and well-structured, although I couldn't help but think there were pieces of the story missing.
Why did the monster do what he did? How and why did he start? How did he choose his collection? What was his motive?...All these and more questions about the villain (the ending seemed rushed and a tad too easy, BTW) remained unanswered, making the main story arc appear rather hole-y.

11 is a thrilling, romantic suspense. The story follows Mia Deleon and Jude Bishop both fighting to catch the psychopath "The Collector".

Overall I enjoyed reading the story and . It had a lot of suspense, Brant was also mindful of the characters past and how that would affect their current thinking and behaviours which I thought was well-written and fleshed out. The book however did give the feeling that I wanted more. Some scenes could have developed further, rather than adding big dramatic plot lines which I felt skimmed the surface of the characters, more detail could have been added to create more passionate higher stakes.

******* AUDIOBOOK REVIEW *******

My first book by this author and I am floored!!! The mystery and suspense feel is insanely high!! I went back and forth on whether I should get this audiobook or not. I’m so happy I bit the bullet. It was everything I want in a book. Plus, the romance was just a bit. It was definitely more suspense than romance and I appreciate that so much!!

The narrator Kate Udall was fantastic!! Her voices were filled with emotion. The suspense was thick! Great job!!

Kylie does it again!

Another very suspenseful book from Kylie Brand. This is the 2nd book I have read of hers and I will just have to keep going. The heart-throbbing actions of 11 and Jude kept me reading long into the night and I have no intention of giving away any spoilers so you will just have to read this yourself. It will be well worth it.

Fantastic read

I almost read this book in one sitting- it was only the need to sleep, as I had work the next day which stopped me. It is a heart stopping page turner. No spoilers from me- but if you like edgy thrillers with gritty life weary characters/ smooth evil villains...then you wont be disappointed. Would make a brilliant Netflix.

Great story. Listening to it made the driving about in KL traffic bearable. I really liked the characters and enjoyed the evolution of their relationship. What a sick twisted baddie, the author gave us. Twists and turns with a satisfying ending. I would definitely recommend!

I don't enjoy reading about psychopaths. I put this book down after one page, but decided to give it another chance. It had enough going for it to make me stick
