“This is not a tale of tidy healing, but a fearless excavation of what it means to live, grieve, and keep moving forward. Hyams Romoff writes with the precision of a publicist and the vulnerability of a survivor—each page both polished and painfully true. The result is a memoir that burns with honesty, but glimmers with hope.” —CANREADS Book Review

In this true story, four generations of women grapple with the invisible wounds of inherited trauma—from a grandmother and mother who survived unimaginable horror, to the author’s parents’ tragic death, which catapulted her and her daughter into a freefall.
For more than 30 years, Hyams Romoff has lived in the fast-paced, glittering world of Public Relations. As the founder of OverCat Communications, she stages high-profile events for A-list celebrities. But beneath the glamour lies a far more enduring legacy, one that even the most fabulous wardrobe can’t disguise. Her family’s trauma flows like ripples across water, spreading until it eclipses the light and casts shadows over the women in her family. This is the “Ripple Eclipse”—the quiet, powerful force of trauma that shapes and sometimes threatens to darken the lives of those who carry it.
A deeply moving and compelling story of intergenerational trauma. Audrey writes with humour, humility, and honesty. This memoir felt raw and real. The writing flows effortlessly and makes it difficult to put the book down. Audrey's story is powerful and will leave a lasting impact on every reader.
Love this memoir. It is really eye-opening and honest. I love that the little chapters were short because it made it easy to read and engaging. It’s refreshing to read such an honest account of family trauma, and how generational it can be. I must read for all Canadians, especially women!
A beautifully written memoir that will stay with me for a long time. The book is deep and reflective yet fast moving. The story of Audrey’s ‘four generations’ is moving in so many ways. It is devastatingly sad, inspirational in Audrey’s self-acceptance, knowing and resilience, and historically important as a touchable reflection of the impact of the Holocaust and intergenerational trauma. I enjoyed this book tremendously.
The Ripple Eclipse is a beautifully written and deeply affecting memoir. The author captures the weight of trauma with such honesty and grace, showing how its echoes can shape generations. Her storytelling is powerful, tender, and incredibly human. This book stays with you long after you finish it—a moving testament to resilience, reflection, and the strength it takes to confront the past.
I am grieving my mother and although the circumstances are different the guilt and generational discourse is the same. It really puts in perspective how good and bad flows from one generation to the next.
