I had so much fun with this novel. It’s an urban fantasy about a girl with power in her blood. When she heads off to university, she ends up catching the attention of a mysterious company that wants her blood for their own use. While this book has its thrilling moments, what I loved the most was the characters and the way their connections to each other grew. I’m going to miss the cast of this book.

I thought Fate was a relatable character with her anxiety and I could also see something of myself of having protective parents and being very attached to parents. I can see how her power to feel emotions can be overwhelming to her and with her power to manipulate blood she can also hear physical sensations from others. She can even know who people's ancestors are, I thought that was really nice.

It is interesting, there is this organization, the Blood Curatorial, who can heal people through some people's blood, a blood cure for illnesses. There is something important surrounding consent for people who donate blood.

I like how each character was given a a backstory. Fate, Leslie, Gemina, Jude. Even Angel has a backstory, but I did not like her mean bully ways, though you can understand why she is the way she is. With all the characters you can see why they are the way they are. That doesn't excuse Angel's behaviour though, but there is a reason.

Fate's roommate Gemina has her own story, she seems bubbly and all, but there is more to her. And I felt sorry for her when I learned things about her. I do think she wanted to be a genuine friend to Fate.

And there was this plot twist.

I was not sure what to make of Jude though. But I don't think he wants to hurt anyone and wants to do good.

Finally, Leslie. He has been through losses, and I feel like he can pretty down on himself because of past mistakes, or things that were not his fault. He seems like he can be rather hard on himself, he has flaws, and so does Fate, and they are only human. They have made mistakes. I like how gentle he is with her, he is empathic. I like how Fate and Leslie want to make a difference.

I enjoyed reading this story, the concept was interesting and I liked the characters.

The way that Nadia creates deep, rich and thought provoking characters is bar none! The story pulls you in with intense details beautifully laid out descriptions. I will keep my review spoiler free but there are some scenes images I would die to see brought to life! Her tattoo and art being huge examples of that. The mystery and intrigue of this book leaves you wanting to know more about this world. If she ever chooses to revisit this world I will be first in line! If she doesn’t the ending leaves you satisfied and fulfilled with a wonderful completion!

Nadia’s ability to pull you firmly into the world with her descriptions is extraordinary! More than once I found myself reacting out loud to something that was written. Looking at you pickled athlete sweat sentence…

Dedication had me locked in.

Drawing of the tattoo please. Also where can I buy these plant earrings immediately.
