I’m very clearly not the expected reader for Made Good. I audited it in audiobook form because I read all of Sophia Institute Press's books, and also because my proximity to its real audience, namely, my wife. And yet, I found myself surprisingly grateful for it.

What Moynihan offers is not only insight into “the lies that keep women at war with their bodies,” but a vocabulary and attentiveness that helped me recognize the weight and meaning of comments I might otherwise have heard without really hearing. As the book played on (well-narrated by the author), my wife repeatedly commented on passages that prompted real conversation, unplanned, honest, and often important. There were many of these moments, which felt like a quiet but telling endorsement of the book’s resonance.

One thing I especially appreciated, though it’s not always named explicitly, is Moynihan’s clear instinct for the difference between blood-sacrifice and self-sacrifice. This is a preoccupation of my own, and any skillful articulations of either are most welcome to me. Throughout the book, she consistently steers away from patterns that demand harm, punishment, or coercion (especially self-directed), and instead encourages practices that are either genuinely non-sacrificial or truly self-sacrificial in the healthiest sense. That distinction matters, and it’s handled with care.

Even as an “outsider” to the intended audience, I came away with a deeper understanding of experiences close to me, and with better questions and better conversations as a result. That alone makes the book worth recommending.

If you are even contemplating this book, please pick it up!

I have been following Flo for along time on Instagram and even did Made Good in the early days of the program. She was incredibly helpful then, but in the past few months, listening to her podcast and now reading this book has given me newfound motivation and insight into taking care of myself.

I’m usually not a fan of “self-help” books, but this is completely different; it’s rooted in scripture, truth, realism, joy and peace! Flo is your personal cheerleader with actionable steps to build the life you were meant to live. I don’t give five stars away often, only for books that I feel had a profound impact on me. I can confidently say this is one of them.

Would highly recommend for any Catholic woman or girl! The perspective she gives on struggling with body image and eating is framed in a completely different way than I’ve ever heard. It really takes the focus off of yourself and puts it on God and living for others. Loved it!

This book will do a lot of women a lot of good. Personally, I was hoping for more. Much of the book focuses on mindset shifts/ reality checks, which are important and make sense given the subtitle, but I was hoping for a detailed, informed plan for healthy eating (given she is a nutritionist) and a deeper dive into gut health and “cycle syncing.” Only towards the end of the book do we finally get a few suggestions for which foods to eat and when. We’re told to “track our cycle, monitor symptom changes, and make adjustments in diet, rest, and exercise based on where we are in our cycle” but she doesn’t explain what adjustments to make.

She says her Made Good Method is “everything you need to truly transform your health and well-being.” This feels like a bold claim, especially considering how vague the method actually is. Basically: pray, foster healthy relationships, eat protein, exercise, get sunlight, get enough sleep, and drink water. I appreciate a universal, foundational approach but this method feels lacking. In short, it felt more motivational than practically helpful.

I got this book at SEEK when I met Flo! I didn't think this book would change how I viewed my body and how I fail to listen to it. This book made me realize that sex education in school was just the surface of what we as women need to know about our bodies. No biases just straight up truth with some scripture sprinkled in. Writing this review with a new lens on what my body is! So thankful for this book!

It’s an easy format to read. Facts and resources are beautifully woven with reflection questions and scripture. Would recommend!!
