When her twin is murdered just weeks before the coronation, Nissa is thrust into her sister’s fate: a crown she never wanted, a betrothal she cannot accept.
As unrest spreads through the fae world and the goddess’s fury threatens to tear it apart, Nissa turns to the only fae she can trust—the one she knows she should avoid at all costs. Her betrothed’s brother. The fae who has held her heart for as long as she can remember.
Together, they search for answers to her sister’s death and a way to soothe the goddess’s wrath. But as hidden prophecies unravel and forbidden bonds deepen, Nissa finds herself standing on the edge of an impossible choice: surrender her heart to duty and save the fae world… or risk its ruin for love.
The Mirrored Princess by S.C. Licata grabbed me early and refused to let go. The story begins with a tragedy that immediately sets the tone. Nova, the crown princess of the fae realm, is murdered just weeks before her coronation. Her twin sister, Nissa, is suddenly forced into a life she never wanted. The crown meant for Nova now belongs to her. Along with the political expectations, the scrutiny of the court, and a betrothal she is not ready to accept.
Nissa believes the goddess is meant to choose the rightful rulers of the realm and she is convinced she was never meant to wear the crown. She dislikes the pageantry, the expectations, and the carefully maintained appearances that come with royal life. Nissa's personality feels real, even in a world filled with fae, magic, and prophecy. Of course, things become complicated very quickly.
Nissa turns to the one person she both trusts and resents. Cillian, the brother of her betrothed and the childhood friend who ghosted her years ago. Their history gives their relationship an emotional edge that makes every interaction charged. The tension between them simmers for most of the book. I was so happy when their chemistry finally ignites over. Absolutely worth the wait!
What really kept me turning pages, though, was the mystery surrounding Nova’s death and the Mirrored Sisters Prophecy. As Nissa begins digging for answers, she slowly realizes the stories she has been told may not be true. Humans were blamed for Nova's murder, but the clues suggest something much more complicated. Political manipulation, hidden prophecies, and long-standing secrets within the royal families begin to surface. Every revelation shifts the reader’s understanding of what is really happening in the fae realm. The prophecy of the Mirrored Princess becomes the key thread tying everything together. It reveals that Nissa and Nova were always meant to play larger roles in restoring balance between the fae kingdoms. Their connection, their birth, and even the tragedy that sets the story in motion all tie back to a larger design that has been hidden from them for years. The truth about Nova’s death is finally revealed along with all of the betrayal, conspiracy, and motivations. All of these elements add a darker layer to the political intrigue of the story. The fallout is equally satisfying, as the guilty parties are confronted and the consequences ripple through the court.
Licata does an excellent job pacing the plot twists. The story moves quickly while each new piece of information pushes the narrative forward. I ended up finishing this book in one night because every chapter left me wanting to see what would happen next.
What impressed me most about the ending was how thoroughly everything is wrapped up. Every perspective is revealed and the pieces of the story finally lock into place. The motivations of the parents, the allies, the guards, and even the villain become clear. Just when you think the story is finished, the Epilogue drops one last reveal that changes everything. It is the kind of twist that makes you immediately want to start the next book.
Licata’s writing style is approachable, fast-paced, and incredibly easy to read. The worldbuilding is woven into the story without slowing the plot. The emotional stakes remain front and center throughout. You are fully invested in these characters and their world by the final page.
I went into The Mirrored Princess expecting a fun fantasy romance. What I got was a tightly paced story full of intrigue, emotional tension, satisfying twists, and a romance that delivers the spice. I loved this book and I cannot wait to see where the story goes next.
Run, don’t walk, to pick up this book on release day. If you’re a fan of fantasy romance that balances rich world-building with emotional depth and high stakes, **The Mirrored Princess** is a book I'd highly recommend.
S. C. Licata crafts the world of Castara with vivid detail. The political intrigue, layered secrets, and unfolding prophecies intertwine beautifully with a magic system rooted in elemental power with a raging Goddess to balance things out a bit.
There’s forbidden love, found family, plus an adorable little creature sidekick that add just the right touch of whimsy. The romance brings a satisfying mix of tension, tenderness, and just enough steam to make the emotional beats land even harder.
I'm already wishing for the next installment. **The Mirrored Princess** marks a strong beginning to what feels like a sweeping, magical journey, and I cannot wait to see where we go next.
Highly recommend for fans of fantasy romance with heart, mystery, and mythic flair.
When I tell you that I found your next Fae Romantasy read with a slow burn romance that will have you going feral!😍
This book is perfect for fans of the arranged royal marriage combined with lush worldbuilding from Shield of Sparrows! 🖤 Nissa never wanted the crown, but after the mysterious death of her twin sister, she has no choice but to become the next daughter of Gaia, promised to marry the crown Prince… problem is, her heart once craved his twin brother😱🔥 Together, they start to investigate the destruction of the Fae Lands by the goddess… sparks fly but their love is forbidden 👀
4.5 stars if I could manage to do that on goodreads!!
Thank you to S.C. Licata for the eARC! This was a fantastic debut, and I’m so excited to see where the rest of the story will go.
The Mirrored Princess follows Nissa, who’s forced to take her murdered twin’s place as heir - along with a crown she never wanted and a betrothal she can’t accept. As unrest spreads through the fae world and a furious goddess threatens everything, Nissa turns to the one person she shouldn’t: her betrothed’s brother, the fae she’s always loved. Together they uncover dark secrets and hidden prophecies, and Nissa must decide whether to save her world or risk it all for love.
I am OBSESSED with Cillian, I’m a sucker for a protective fae anyway, but I thought the tension between Nissa and Cillian was fantastic. I also loved the moments between Nissa and Ophe - I wish we had seen her more!!
What I loved most was how Nissa’s struggle between duty and her own heart came through. Taking her twin’s place, being stuck in an unwanted engagement, and trying to hold everything together really hit me emotionally. Add in all the unrest and the goddess’s fury, and it honestly kept me hooked the whole time.
The world-building in this was great, I loved how the elemental aspects of the fae world were woven into the plot, giving it more of a layered magic system and a real sense of place and power. I hope in the rest of the series we get to explore each land a bit more, or even venture further out into the other worlds hinted at.
As a debut, this sets a strong foundation - compelling characters, an addictive romance, elemental magic, and a world that feels so alive!
I loved this book so much. The world of Castra and its magic system were so well done; it felt easy to follow but still super immersive. The writing just flows, so it’s one of those books you can fly through in a couple sittings.
And Cillian… the way he loves? My heart melted. 🥹 The tension, the loyalty, the quiet kind of love that just sneaks up on you, I was obsessed.
It’s got everything I love in a romantasy: forbidden love, gods and prophecies, high stakes, and a heroine you can’t help but root for.
Such a magical, emotional read. I’ll be recommending this book to literally everyone. 💫
Forbidden love, elemental magic, an angry goddess, and murder? Sign me up! I received an ARC and I loved every minute. Our FMC is thrust into a role she never expected, all while trying to solve the murder of her twin. I really enjoyed the magic system, with each Fae being tied to one of four elements. I was sucked in from the beginning. AND THE YEARNING. Chefs kiss.
This was set up perfectly for future books (which I’m already dying for). ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5!
The Mirrored Princess — Some choices feel like coronations. Others feel like death.
There’s a particular ache that comes from losing someone who shares your face. The Mirrored Princess leans into that ache, lets it echo through every marble hallway and whispered betrayal. Nissa, the surviving twin, is thrust toward a throne she never wanted—crowned not by destiny, but by absence. And beneath her grief runs a different fracture: a forbidden pull toward Cillian, the twin of the man she’s meant to marry. A mirrored desire, sharp enough to cut.
This isn’t just a fantasy of courts and crowns—it’s a story about stepping into a life that never belonged to you, only to realize the ghosts might fit better than the living ever did.
As Nissa chases the truth behind her sister’s sudden death, she finds a kingdom rotting beneath tradition, its magic thinning like breath on glass. Politics twist, loyalties unravel, and in the shadows, a little book dragon named Cyndr steals the whole damn show with a single fiery sigh.
Yes, some of the mystery’s pathways feel familiar, and the romance leans into the classic ache of forbidden longing—but the execution is so earnest, so tightly paced, that it becomes part of the charm. I devoured it in one sitting, letting the tension coil and snap, letting the spice simmer. A debut with teeth and tenderness.
A shimmering start to a series that promises even deeper ruin—and maybe, rebirth.

The Mirrored Princess is the kind of fantasy romance that pulls you in with its atmosphere and keeps you turning pages with its secrets. The world building is rich and descriptive, and I loved the elemental magic woven through every layer of the story. Add in fae politics, family betrayal, and razor sharp sibling rivalry, and you’ve got a plot that stays tense and twisty from start to finish. The romantic threads hit my favorite tropes with fated mates, forbidden love, and a second-chance tension that simmers in the background. It’s definitely a slow burn, and while I enjoyed the chemistry, I will say the intimate scenes fell a bit short for me. But the mystery and the sense that anyone could be hiding something more than made up for it. For most of the story, I truly didn’t know who to trust or what the real truth was, and when everything finally unraveled at the end, the plot twist caught me completely off guard. One of my absolute favorite touches? The small dragon. Always a win. There’s clearly a lot more story left to explore in this world, and after that ending, I’m genuinely excited to see where S.C. Licata takes it next. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was an easy 5 star for me. I absolutely devoured this book.
The story pulls you in right from the beginning and keeps you hooked the entire time.
And the characters? I loved them. They’re complex, emotional, and easy to connect with, which made the story even more powerful as everything unfolded.
The FMC is trying to deal with grief, responsibility, and the pressure of a kingdom all at once. And of course there’s the tension with the one person she absolutely shouldn’t have feelings for.. her betrothed’s brother, which adds so much weight and drama to the story.
The fantasy elements, the different realms, and the fae politics all felt really immersive without being overwhelming. So unique compared to a lot of fantasy I’ve read recently. It unfolds in a way that makes you want to keep turning the pages.
I highly recommend giving this one a try if you love fantasy with strong characters, great world-building, and a story that mixes mystery, magic, and a little forbidden romance.
I received an advanced copy to read in exchange for an honest review.
The Mirrored Princess is a fast, immersive fae romantasy with a twisty plot, vivid world, and a forbidden romance that kept me turning pages. Nissa’s grief for her twin and her very messy feelings for the wrong brother give the story a ton of emotional weight without drowning out the court intrigue and prophecy threads. Some of the storyline was a bit predictable, but that didn’t stop me from being immersed. Overall I’d still put this solidly in the 4–4.5 star range and I am absolutely ready for more books in this world.
The Mirrored Princess swept me up from page one. This is such a strong, confident debut, and I’m honestly blown away by how immersive and emotional this story was. I cannot wait to see where the rest of the series goes.
The story follows Nissa, who is suddenly forced to take her murdered twin’s place as heir, along with a crown she never wanted and a betrothal she absolutely does not choose. As unrest grows in the fae world and a furious goddess rises, Nissa turns to the one person she shouldn’t: her betrothed’s brother, Cillian. Together they uncover hidden prophecies, dangerous secrets, and truths that force Nissa to choose between her duty and her heart.
I was obsessed with the dynamic between Nissa and Cillian. Their moments together were some of my favorites. I also loved the relationships between Nissa and the other characters, especially Ophe. Every bond felt layered and meaningful.
The world-building was rich and magical.
✨ Compelling characters ✨ A romance I couldn’t stop rooting for ✨ Strong emotional stakes ✨ Intricate magic ✨ A world that feels alive and dangerous
I thought this was a cute story! The beginning really got me hooked. I do wish it had a bit more detail regarding the different relationships in the book and in the world building.
Really interesting concept with solid worldbuilding. I don’t know if it was just my kindle version or what but I struggled a lot with the number of grammar errors and typos throughout the book. I would consider the next books in the series if they were edited a little more thoroughly.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 The Mirrored Princess is an enchanting and emotional fae fantasy that weaves together mythology, sisterhood, betrayal, prophecy, and forbidden love. We follow Nissa, one of the only two known sets of fae twins in Castara. Born to a kingdom rooted in elemental magic and divine lineage, Nissa has always lived in the shadow of her twin sister, Nova — the heir destined to be queen.
What begins as a story shaped by grief — the loss of a twin bond so deep it is physically felt — quickly unravels into a mystery of hidden history, broken magic, and long-buried prophecy.
The world-building is rich and layered: • Castara is divided between kingdoms ruled by the Vaylor family • Elemental magic is tied to the land itself • The goddesses of earth and stars shape the fate of the fae • And a legendary prophecy foretells twin rulers — a truth that has been deliberately hidden
Nissa is a deeply compelling protagonist: • an Earth fae connected to the roots, soil, and living world • haunted by loss • struggling with expectation and identity • and torn between duty and the quiet pull of her heart
The romance is beautifully slow-burn and emotionally charged, particularly her tension with Cillian, who has history, loyalty, and grief of his own. Their bond feels fated, elemental, and inevitable in the best way.
The pacing balances political intrigue, emotional growth, and mystery well. The writing style is strong — atmospheric without being overwrought — and the themes of nature’s balance, divine intention, generational secrets, and destiny are handled with care.
The final reveal? Devastating, cinematic, and the perfect hook for book two.
This is a story for readers who love: 🌿 elemental magic 👑 hidden heirs & palace intrigue 🗝️ lost or forbidden history 💫 soul-bonds / fated mates 💔 sisterhood, grief, revenge 🔥 slow-burn romance with tension you feel
Wow. Wow. Wow. 5 stars for sure. I did NOT expect this book in the most positive way. The Mirrored Princess was sincerely such a great read. I found myself not wanting to stop reading it way into the night.
When reading The Mirrored Princess we find ourselves immediately thrown into the world of Castara and its magic system and political unrest. The great thing about Castara and its world is that I pictured everything perfectly, I understood how the magic worked without confusion and it didn’t need chapters on top of chapters to get context or understanding.
Nissa, our female main character, enjoys her quiet life, while also trying to understand and come to terms with shadows of her past - like so many of us are. Used to living a life of simplicity with her “people”, Nissa is forced to jump into the spotlight after her sister is killed and she must jump into the royal line of succession.
Cillian instantly clicked for me and his need to always do what is right and protect those he loves unfailingly shows his admirable side won me over, maybe because that is what many people lack in this day and age.
Hands down though my favorite character was Cyndr, the dryrd. He was a little spot of cozy in this page turning romantasy. I didn’t think it was possible to tell, what to me felt like a complete story in the romantasy space in just over 300 pages. But I truly felt like Licata gave us the perfect amount of detail and story to make me not want to put it down. READ THIS BOOK you won’t regret it!! I’m recommending it to all reader friends.
Amazing!! 🤩 This has everything I love in a romantic fantasy!! It jumps right into the action. I felt that it was well-paced. Some spicy scenes! 🌶️ It had some of my favorite tropes too!! Second chance romance. Fated Mates. The writing was exquisite and I did not seen some of the twists coming! 🤯 I really enjoyed following our FMC through the story trying to find out what happened to her sister. The magic system felt unique. I loved the ties to the elements! 10/10 recommend!!! 🤩🤩
Thank you so much S.C. Licata for this eARC! This was SUCH a good read! I was on the edge of my seat, fae powers, a crazy goddess, cool magic system, mystery, multiple worlds forced proximity! It was so good! I haven’t seen anyone else say this but kinda reminded me of a (very loosely) fantasy version of Queen Ester. (Didn’t want to marry the king, didn’t want to be queen but wanted to help people.) Loved this book and hoping for a part 2!!!!! I also don’t think I’ve ever seen a goddess so prevalent in a fantasy book. I know other books mention gods and goddesses in passing but this one was very unique !! Also the ending !!!!!!! What a twist!!!! I’m not going to be able to stop thinking about this book!
The TENSION was it for me. I devoured this book. I love Nissas character and Cillian is *chefs kiss* I haven’t read any books about fae twins, so I really enjoyed the change of plot with fae twins & the political expectations of them for the kingdom.
The forbidden romance was so well done with the perfect amount of spice that didn’t over take the plot. Lots of betrayal & lies from important people in the main characters lives.
Definitely a MUST read this year if you love forbidden romance, strong female main characters, political turmoil, earth magic and fated/divine mates.
The Mirror Princess was the first arc I had the privilege of reading—thank you so much! It was fantastic, and I was truly impressed by the storytelling. I dabble in romantasy myself, and this book was exceptional. I couldn’t stop coming back to finish it and can’t wait for it to reach a wider audience. Amazing job on your first book—I’m excited to read more from you!
Best indie romantasy I've read all year! If you like a little mystery, political intrigue, tension and yearning, a touch of slow burn, and a forbidden romance this one is for you.
Our FMC is forced into a betrothal upon her twin sisters death. Of course her betrothed is the brother of the man she secretly cares for. We've got a vengeful goddess wrecking havoc on the lands, diminishing everyone's magic. We have a murder mystery situation going on. We have a really interesting world with witches, vampires, fae, humans, elemental magic, and baby dragons.
S.C. Licata does a brilliant job introducing the world and magic system in a slow and satisfying way that doesn't have you drowning in crazy world building. You just know there are some shady characters who can't be trusted and its fun to theorize right up until the very end.
**4.5 Stars** If you like fae, royalty, mystery, and forbidden love, read this book! The Mirrored Princess has all that and more...
A rare fae twin, Nissa must unexpectedly step into her sister’s role as Princess - a role Nova was raised for and Nissa never wanted. Nissa has to navigate royal politics in a changing kingdom and try to be on her best behavior while wishing she could be anywhere else, trying to figure out what happened to Nova, and hopefully not falling for the wrong male. Following official princess qualification standards (according to Maui), she also has an adorable animal pal.
The mystery first pulled me into this book, but I was soon obsessed with the romantic drama. I’m trying not to spoil anything, but I will say… yes, please! This book is a sure enough romantasy (not too spicy), but it’s got some thriller in its DNA too. I enjoyed trying to figure out who was responsible for Nova’s death, who was keeping secrets/telling lies, and what the Goddess’s problem was!
I was fortunate enough to be sent an ARC, and I am so glad! For anyone who knows my average reading pace, let me say that this took me a little longer than normal, but by NO fault of the book. I just had real life interrupting my bookish fantasy time a lot. I would have torn through this in audiobook format because I did not want to stop reading, but I had to do a lot of driving. I hope they record one someday!
This story was well written, immediately intriguing, and had many elements I enjoy! I liked the POVs and became attached to multiple characters. The magical world of Castara is well thought out, with its fae (and other species) politics, mysterious royals, a cool magic system, and a raging Goddess.
**On my personal star system, a 4 means I liked it enough to read it again, recommend it, and look forward to more if it’s not a standalone. 5 means I’m eating, sleeping, and dreaming about this and will be rereading it on repeat forever. I really wish Goodreads allowed partials because I really did like this a lot! Depending on series progression/completion, I have been known to go back to early books and bump up stars later if the series becomes a repeated rereader for me. I can see this potentially being one of those. I will likely read this more than once and I will be buying a hard copy when it’s released. Looking forward to more from Castara and S.C. Licata!**
I received an advance copy of this book for my honest feedback.
The Mirrored Princess is the kind of fantasy romance that immediately pulls you into its world and refuses to let you go. The elemental magic system is one of my favorite parts - vivid, intuitive, and woven so naturally into the story that it feels effortless. It’s imaginative without ever being confusing, which makes the world incredibly easy to sink into.
The emotional core of this book lies with the twin princesses, Nissa (Lila?!!🩶) and Nova. When tragedy reshapes their destinies, Nissa is forced into an arranged betrothal originally meant for her sister. That alone raises the stakes—but adding in the dynamic with the twin princes? Absolutely addictive.
Caspien, the prince she’s now promised to, is intense and compelling… but it’s her past with his twin brother, Cillian, that brings a whole new level of tension. It’s messy, heartfelt, and beautifully executed without ever feeling overdramatic.
The plot flows smoothly from start to finish, balancing political intrigue, family bonds, magic, and romance with near-perfect pacing. The tension builds in all the right places, and the emotional moments land exactly where they should. And yes - you will absolutely walk away with a new book boyfriend to swoon over.
If you enjoy elemental magic, royal intrigue, twin dynamics, and slow-burning emotional tension, The Mirrored Princess is a standout addition to the romantasy genre. I can’t wait to see where this series goes next.
The Mirrored Princess was such an enjoyable read for me. From the beginning, the story drops you into a world filled with tension, responsibility, and a whole lot of pressure that Nissa never asked for. She is dealing with loss, expectations, and the weight of doing what is right for her kingdom while still trying to hold onto her own wants. Her strength and heart really carried the story.
The romance was one of my favorite parts. Nissa and Cillian have a connection that feels natural and full of longing. It is definitely a forbidden slow burn, but it never distracts from the main storyline and adds just the right amount of emotion.
The mystery surrounding her sister kept me turning the pages. I had my guesses, but I was completely wrong. The twist caught me off guard in the best way, and I liked how the truth came out in layers instead of everything dropping at once.
Spice level is about two chilly peppers. This is not a spice centered fantasy, but the moments that are included fit well with the characters and their journey.
Overall, this was a strong and engaging read with characters I cared about and a plot that held my interest from start to finish. I would definitely read a book two if this story continues!
A beautifully written romantasy with heart, tension, and purpose
The Mirrored Princess completely pulled me in from the very first chapter. What starts as grief and duty quickly unfolds into a layered story of forbidden love, political intrigue, and hidden prophecy, all wrapped in a slow-burn romance that feels earned and deeply emotional.
Nissa is a strong FMC forced into power she never wanted, and I loved watching her navigate loss, responsibility, and desire while the fate of the fae world hangs in the balance. The romance is done so well—full of tension, longing, and restraint. It’s a true slow burn that never overtakes the plot, but instead enhances it.
The mystery surrounding her sister’s death and the unraveling prophecy kept me turning pages, while the world-building and court politics added real depth and stakes. This is one of those books where the emotions linger long after you finish.
If you enjoy: • Forbidden romance • Slow burn with deep emotional payoff • Political intrigue and court unrest • Hidden prophecies and divine influence • Strong female leads forced into power
…this book is absolutely for you.
One of the best indie romantasy reads I’ve mentioned this year — and I can’t wait to see where this series goes next.
This was excellent. Really clever magic system, unique world, and engaging plot. Some parts were predictable but others were VERY much not. SPOILERS ahead:
I loved the ending and am really hoping for a sequel that follows Nova and Aiden! My only reasons for docking a (half) star are (1) I don’t like smut (I know, I’m a super minority here haha) and (2) I thought the character development for Cillian and Nissa would have benefitted from a bit more intricacy. They both felt a bit typical for leads in this kind of fantasy, buy compared to Nova and Aiden? 🥹 I REALLY love the mystery surrounding those two. I’ll be eagerly watching for the sequel announcement because I think following them would make for a 5-star read.
There were some world-building things that I’d also love to see expanded on in a sequel: For one, if fae don’t usually come into their magic until they’re older, how do they know what element they’ll have? It seems like all four royal fae knew their elements before reaching majority. Could be just an attraction to one element but I wasn’t sure that I got that detail in the book, and it’d be cool to understand, maybe in flashbacks! I also would LOVE to see a map. This is one that needs a map!
Thank you to the author and publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
The Mirrored Princess is a fast-paced standalone novel that delivers an engaging story in just over 300 pages. Because of its length, the world-building and plot are relatively straightforward, yet still feel well developed. One of the strengths of the book is the relationship between the two main characters. As childhood sweethearts, their feelings are already established, which makes their connection feel natural rather than rushed or out of nowhere. The storyline is intriguing, following Nissa as she is forced to take her sister’s place as the future queen while also trying to uncover what happened to her. Despite the shorter format, there is still a noticeable tension between the leads, although it resolves fairly quickly. The novel works well as a palate cleanser between longer or heavier series. While the plot can be somewhat predictable, it doesn’t take away from the overall enjoyment. Overall, it’s a worthwhile read if you’re looking for a fast-paced romantasy with a satisfying, easy-to-follow story.
What's a girl to do when her estranged identical twin sister is murdered?! Obviously, we don't follow through with our plan to run away and live our life away from the under appreciating impeccables in the palace. Instead, we choose to agree to be engaged to our sister’s ex fiancé the crown prince (former lovers fraternal twin brother) as an excuse to sleuth and unmask the killer mystery kids style (cute flame spirit kick in tow). And yes both brothers are the bee’s knees. Prophecies - no biggie Fighting of assailants – just another Monday Etiquette lesson – now that’s a tough one …. Well, we really just don’t care. It’s not like we’re planning on sticking around anyway. Any who join Nissa as she struggles between choosing what she believes is morally right and what the jerks at the palace actually deserve. Maybe she’ll find love along the way – who knows. I mean we do , but you’ll have to read to find out ;)
