Trivia: penampilan pertama ayah Hajime.

Ah, tough to rate this one. It’s a cut above the average Kindaichi, but man do I ever hate the name ‘Chris Einstein’ (I’d love to know if that’s an embellishment of the translation or not). Ignoring that, which I am tempted to round down for, this is a solid 3.5 star outing for our sleuth.

Despite the rather inconsequential treasure hunt linking things together (seriously, there’s a single poem and it’s going to take them all a week to decode it?), the actual set-up and execution (pardon the pun) of the murders is a perfect use of misdirection. There are even a slew of solid visual clues that make this play fairer than the average Kindaichi if you want to put the time in to solve.

Even the reveal of the murderer is a cut above (whoops, did it again), although Kindaichi could really stand to respect boundaries even when he’s solving the case. The use of some basic chemistry is just the little bit of oomph this needs to make things extra clever.

I love the way Kindaichi gets roped into this case by his mother and Miyuki and there are a crazy number of twists and turns and double-crosses. It’s also surprisingly respectful about some things that could have been treated a LOT worse given the time it was written.

It’s fun. The cast let this one down a little and it’s ridiculously earnest at the end to the point of being maudlin, but overall it hangs together for a fun ride with this one. And hey, I don’t mind an obvious homage to ‘And Then There Were None’ either.

Each case in this manga is a stand alone mystery, and we are still fairly early in the series. So while reading in order will be better to understand the recurring characters, it's not necessary to enjoy the individual stories.

Hajime Kindaichi is tricked into qualifying for a treasure hunt on an isolated island, thinking his family is in financial trouble. The reward soon becomes the furthest thing from his mind when the fortune seekers find themselves trapped on the island with a murderer.

The Kindaichi Case Files manga continues to be somewhat formulaic in that each case is set up in classical mystery style. We get some set up, meet potential victims/suspects, something bad happens and away we go. The fun with this series is the way pieces of the story combine and the fact that Kindaichi's adventures are always pretty distinct, interesting, and clever. Treasure Isle gives us a particularly weird cast of characters with diverse reactions to what's happening. This mystery felt different than the others, which is always nice in a genre where things can get repetitive. I really liked the twists in this one and the way it all came together. As always while some plot details will remain obscured until spelled out there are clues throughout and the main mystery is solvable.

One of the best volumes yet. Highly recommended.

As Usual, Kindaichi uses an urban legend to enrich the story and make it more mystical. This one is the most Gory of them all. with mutilation everywhere that giving the taste of maniac serial killer. The motive itself is Great, but the methods seem to dependent on the coincidence. Still Amagi sensei uses a lot of his experience and turn it to his advantage (one of the killing is caused by a coincidence)

2019 reread: 4 stars from previous 5 stars

As I went along with Kindaichi, his deductions are sometimes too detailed that it was almost impossible for him to guess it. Like when someone decide to go to toilet & do what in there or wiping the blood using whatever kind of cloth. I love rereading my beloved books & discovering a whole lot of things my younger self couldn't.

Once again, we are greeted by gruesome serial murders and a series of seemingly flawless Perfect Crimes. And everyone are trapped in an isolated Treasure Isle, with nowhere to run!

Again it's one of the best stories from The Kindaichi Case Files, it's an entertaining, cleverly plotted mystery and good sense of humor. You will enjoy it, I'm sure.

This manga was very reminiscent of Agatha Christie's 'And then there were none' (killings on an isolated island where a small group has been purportedly invited). Neat little mystery that can be gobbled up in a couple of hours.
