After spending the past few years hosting a successful ghost hunting webseries, Magnolia and Korinne score the ultimate opportunity of their career: tagging along as one of humanity’s ancient generation ships flies to its final resting place. It’s the perfect setting for the show’s finale, and possibly the last chance to admit the feelings they’ve long denied for each other.
From the beginning, the investigation has the potential to be scarier than all the rest. Before, Magnolia assumed the ghosts were present; now, she can see their faces, feel their fear, and hear their warnings. Korinne, forever a skeptic of the supernatural, finds it difficult to understand Magnolia’s unease. After all, she only believes in things backed by irrefutable evidence, and there’s definitely no proof of a malicious spirit in the engine room.
The pressure is on, both for the finale and their lives. As the strange occurrences pile up, Magnolia must fight to convince Korinne of a malevolent threat, and of some unlikely allies in their corner. If they can’t land the ship before it’s torn apart, their souls—and the souls of all the passengers gone before them—will be lost forever.
This story follows two best friends who host a ghost-hunting webseries, and honestly their dynamic had me hooked from the very first chapter. Korinne is the skeptical, logical one who always questions the supernatural, while Magnolia is the intuitive, bubbly one who literally has a sixth sense. When they get the chance to film inside an abandoned spaceship with a tragic past, they jump right in without hesitation… but as things start getting increasingly strange, they slowly realize this trip might change everything—and soon enough, escaping becomes the real question.
Now, it’s been ages since I read a paranormal story focused entirely on ghosts. It’s a genre that has always fascinated me, I grew up obsessed with everything spooky, even if I’ve never experienced anything myself (yes, I believe anyway, the irony is not lost on me). But honestly, you don’t need to believe in ghosts to enjoy this story. That’s the magic of it.
I especially loved that we actually get to learn about the ghosts on the ship, not just as entities haunting the place, but as individuals who lived and had their own histories. Cassie in particular really got to me. Getting chapters from her POV made everything feel more personal and emotional. I adored seeing “the other side” through her eyes, including her interactions with the other spirits (Baxter the ghost dog owns my heart). Watching her slowly remember who she was thanks to the girls felt so meaningful. Her journey is bittersweet, but the ending the author chose for her honestly warmed my heart.
And then we have Rinne and Mags… Their banter, their looks, their chemistry, it’s all so soft and unspoken and absolutely delicious. Nico takes slow burn to a level that honestly made me scream internally at how oblivious they both are, but when things finally begin to move, the payoff is so satisfying and so worth the wait. I also love that the author doesn’t rush the physical side; it makes the emotional build feel richer and more believable.
If I have to point something out, it would be the pacing. There are moments, especially in the second half, where transitions felt a little uneven. And although I adore the paranormal plot, I sometimes wished for a bit more character depth outside of the haunting itself, particularly around Magnolia’s abilities and the whole Malevolence situation, which deserved a bit more exploration. So many little mysteries left me wishing for more pages.
But overall? This book gave me slow burn softness, paranormal tension, found footage vibes, ghost lore, and two idiots-in-love trying their best while battling supernatural danger, all while learning that wanting more isn’t something to fear. And honestly… I loved that the story never tries to prove the supernatural is “real”, it just invites you to believe.
Huge thank you to the author for trusting me with this early read!
In 'Death Between the Stars', we follow two friends, Magnolia and Korinne, known for their online ghosthunter series. They get the unique opportunity to travel aboard an old spaceship being taken to its final resting place. During this three-day journey, they set out to hunt ghosts, as they always do. But this proves far from an innocent adventure. Magnolia discovers she can see the dead, while Korinne stubbornly clings to her skepticism, until they come face to face with a malevolent entity that neither of them can deny.
Nico Vincenty’s writing style is engaging and highly vivid. She pays careful attention to details without ever overdoing it. The spaceship feels more than just a backdrop; it lives, breathes, and carries its own history. Every corridor seems to whisper, inviting the reader to search alongside the characters for what lurks in the shadows.
'Death Between the Stars' unfolds through three perspectives: Magnolia, Korinne, and the ghost Cassie. The fascinating part is that you not only follow the living, but also experience the world through the eyes of a spirit. Cassie’s chapters blur the line between victim and entity; her presence is simultaneously tragic and unpredictable, adding an extra layer of tension to the story.
The atmosphere throughout the book is oppressive yet slowly builds. Fear doesn’t hit all at once; it creeps, waits, and strikes when you least expect it. Between moments of suspense, there are also light, humorous scenes, giving the story room to breathe. Vincenty strikes this balance beautifully.
With its alternating perspectives, carefully built tension, and unique sci-fi setting, 'Death Between the Stars' offers a fresh take on the ghosthunter genre. The balance between humor, fear, and humanity makes this a surprisingly layered story that lingers long after you’ve finished reading.

Spoken tussen de sterren
In ‘Death Between the Stars’ volgen twee vriendinnen, Magnolia en Korinne, bekend van hun online ghosthunter-serie.
Going into this as someone who loves watching BuzzFeed Unsolved, Watcher, and the Ghoul Boys ghost hunting content, I immediately wanted to pick this one up. And it completely delivered. This felt like such a love letter to paranormal investigation with just the right mix of spooky and soft. The vibe is that perfect blend of mystery, ghost story, and supernatural adventure. It kinda reminded me a little of Monsters and Mainframes, but with ghosts! It starts off feeling like a harmless, slightly spooky adventure and then slowly turns into something darker and more intense. The mystery deepens, the stakes get real, and suddenly there's a situation that’s way more tense than expected.
The friends-to-lovers element absolutely stole the show for me. I love the “both secretly in love and convinced the other couldn’t possibly feel the same” trope, and this did it in such a soft, charming way. Their dynamic felt natural and warm, and I was rooting for them the entire time.
Cassie was absolutely my favorite, though, and manages to steal every scene she's in. I loved her perspective so much, and she felt like a stand-in with how fed up she was with the living and how she clocked their feelings way before they did. Her commentary was genuinely hilarious and added such a fun layer to the story. Plus, we get a second sapphic love story with her, even though it was through her memories.
Overall, this was such a fun ride: creepy, cozy, charming, and genuinely engaging. Great mystery, great characters, and just a really satisfying blend of spooky but soft. If you like paranormal investigator vibes but love scifi, check this one out!

Lesbian ghost hunters IN SPACE! For Fans Of: Watcher's Ghost Files, Gideon the Ninth, Cabin in the Woods, Dale and Tucker vs Evil Spice: 4 peppers ;)
This book is funny! It reminded me of a horror-oriented Doctor Who episode where the humor and adventure are integral to the storyline, where evil things are certainly stirring within the ship but it is the absurdity of a skeptic/believer ghost hunting show stumbling into real life and death circumstances from a malevolent spirit alone on a space ship that makes up the basis of the plot.
Korinne and Magnolia's useless lesbian love story adds to the humor (and inserted hot spice I did not expect to find). Cassie is the ghost friend that every skeptic/believer ghost hunting duo deserves, her chapters were some of my favorites, especially her color commentary about the useless lesbians. I enjoyed the concept, and writing Korinne as an anthropology doctoral student about to defend her dissertation triggered my own personal horror response - if I had encountered evil ghosts in the archives where I did my doctoral research, at least I could've just left the building.
Overall this was an enjoyable read that I devoured over two days, and I think even people who aren't fans of horror would enjoy it!
If you like sapphic sci/fi then you need to read this book! I loved the characters (well most of them ;) and how each brought something to the story. Korinne and Magnolia are best friends suffering from mutual (un)requited feelings that started a ghost hunters vlog while finishing degrees. This story is their final episode and it’s aboard the Arcana, basically a ‘ghost’ ship that’s been out of commission for the last sixty or so years. These two plus a captain will fly the ship to its final resting place with its sister ship on a planet that takes about three days to get to. One doesn’t believe in ghosts. One very much does. And one…is a ghost. Yes there are three main characters and I loved all three POV’s. This book has everything. Intrigue. Action. Fear. Hurt/comfort. Love. Ghosts. Spaceships. Banter. Entertainment. Magic. Highly recommend!
Part-ghost hunting, part-treasure hunt, part-reality tv show behind the scenes, part-murder mystery and all of it worked so well together! Korinne and Mags are adorable; their friendship and depth of emotion paired with denial banter, pining, yearning, teasing, turned admission of feelings was a sweet and rewarding arc that was thoroughly enjoyable.
All the magic and horror elements of the Blight worked so well and I was getting literal chills in the middle. There are so many wonderful moments throughout, it's so fun! And the ending is perfect.
5 ⭐️ (I did receive a copy as an arc & this is my honest opinion)
I loved this book more than I thought I would. Once you get past day 1 I think everyone will like this book. I’m happy everyone gotten their happy ending, I literally teared up twice. I have so much to say about this book but it’s a spoiler 😭😭 if you’re a mutual of mine please read this so I can have someone to talk with about this story!!
Death Between the Stars was one of the best, if not the best, books I read all year.
Ghost-hunting streamers Magnolia (the believer) and Korinne (the skeptic) have the opportunity to spend three days inside the haunted generational ship that brought their ancestors to the planet they call home. Fans of BuzzFeed Unsolved will notice the homage/influence right away, and will love the dynamic between these two best friends as they dispute the existence of supernatural entities. Aliens? Duh. But spirits? No way!
... But the thing is, the ship actually is crawling with ghosts, and not all of them are friendly!
The mix of paranormal/fantasy and science-fiction works perfectly, balancing Magnolia's part-alien heritage, the story of humanity's migration to other worlds, and supernatural lore with Reality TV realness and a to-die-for Sapphic love story.
My favourite chapters were those from Cassie's point of view. The mystery of her life (and was riveting, and I found myself wanting more. Baxter the three-legged dog stole the show (and my heart). The chapter header art was so. freaking. cute!
Fans of either/both science fiction and fantasy -- as well as queer (F/F) romance -- will absolutely love this book. It is positively un-put-downable! The mystery and action is well-written and well-paced, and the romance is a slow burn that will have readers wanting to strangle these idiots for not seeing what's right in front of their faces.
There's something for everybody to enjoy in this book, including a steamy, open-door chapter for smut fans (self-contained in Chapter and easily skippable for those who prefer a clean read).
Disclaimer: I received an advance review copy of this title from the author.
I really need to start remembering how much I like sci-fi fantasy because I absolutely loved “Death Between the Stars”! I want to thank Nico Vincenty for letting me experience this story before its official release on December 9th. The book is now available, and here are my honest thoughts about it!
The story follows two longtime friends, Magnolia and Korinne. They host an internet show where they go hunting for ghosts in different places throughout their world. They’re planning on ending the series and have chosen a well-known location to wrap it up: the Arcana, an old spacecraft packed with history from centuries ago. This makes it ghost-hunting gold! Magnolia has been a longtime believer in ghosts and even has family history connected to them. Korinne, on the other hand, is a huge skeptic; cue the playful bickering and occasional jabs at each other! Within the span of three days aboard the ship, the girls uncover more than they expected, discover that ghosts are indeed real, and wind up fighting for their lives. To find out what happens and follow the thrilling adventure, grab your copy of the book now!
This was my first time reading Nico Vincenty’s work, and it captured me right away. The writing was smooth and engaging, with just enough detail to create vivid scenes in my head as I read. I really felt like I was on the Arcana with the characters, who were also written really well. I loved the “friends who have secretly been pining for each other without knowing the other shares the same feelings” dynamic that Magnolia and Korinne had. I hope to read more books by Vincenty soon!
If you’re looking for a witty, spooky sci-fi fantasy featuring a skeptic-vs-believer dynamic, friends-to-lovers sapphic romance, an adorable ghost dog, and prying spirits, then “Death Between the Stars” should be your next read!
“Thank you, my knight in shining leather,” Magnolia said as Korinne settled back down next to Efex.
This book was incredible. I often struggle with sci-fi as a genre. Mainly because it makes me feel like I’m not smart enough to understand what’s happening, but also because I often get distracted or bored when I’m reading it. And I know that sounds awful but sometimes I just really struggle to concentrate in general so I need things that I feel totally engaged with. This book was that and more. It had sapphic romance, hauntings, ghosts, historical facts (I mean technically not historical but historical to the characters), a dog, little robot thingies, occult symbols, and friendship. It had moments of hilarity, heartbreak, and swooning. I really think that almost everyone should read this book. Even if you aren’t the biggest fan of sci-fi. Even if you don’t think it’s for you. I think it’s worth a try because this book is fantastic and deserves to be read. It has pushed its way onto my top 10 of the year, which I wasn’t expecting going into reading it. I expected it to be good, but if I’m being honest I didn’t expect it to be this good. The characters are fantastic. The plot felt unique (although I’ve not read many sci-fi stories before). The romance felt refreshing and comforting. The camaraderie between the 3 main characters even more so. And the ending gave the perfect amount of closure.
🚀I read an ARC of this book, and am leaving an honest (and late) review voluntarily🚀
Death Between the Stars by Nico Vincenty is a fabulous, quirky, and romantic, ghost hunting story in space 😆 I've loved this concept from the very beginning and was so thrilled to read it from one of my favorite authors. You get a sapphic romance, murder mystery, ghost hunting, and the past coming back to life and being preserved.
The ship that brought humanity to a new planet has been in orbit, unused, for fifty years. The plans to move and refurbish the ship as a historical piece includes two ghost hunters filming its final short voyage. Magnolia, who has always had a belief in ghost (and possible ghost related abilities) and Korinne, the forever skeptic, are filming their final episode at the most haunted place. Their electronics go haywire and cabinet opens around them, but does that mean there are ghost?
Meanwhile, the resident ghost Cassie finds great pleasure in following them and causing some fun chaos. Plus, she just might learn more about her death!
I absolutely loved the characters and the plot! Everything came together in such an intense fashion and kept me on my toes! Did I laugh out loud? Yes! Did I cry? Also yes! Also, I cannot forget about my favorite three legged ghost dog Baxter! I would highly recommend this book to anyone! Even if you don't read ghost or sci-fi books, this is super accessible. It's about the human spirit and not waiting to go for what you want! 6 out of 5 stars 😆
This book was incredible. Sci-fi/paranormal with some horror was a blend I didn’t know I needed. I’ve never read anything like it. Before I read the acknowledgements at the end, I knew it was an homage to Shane and Ryan from Buzzfeed: Unsolved and The Watcher. I love their shows so it was a treat to read something so similar yet so different in the best ways.
Korinne, Magnolia, and Cassie were strong, female leads with well-developed personalities that differed but fit so well together. Cassie and Korinne’s humor was well timed and necessary with the seriousness of the plot line. While Magnolia was figuring out her powers, I could feel her terror and needed to know what was happening next.
The chemistry between Korinne and Magnolia was sweet, natural, and comforting. The support and kindness they had for each other was a breath of fresh air in terms of romantic stories that can be hard to find in other sci-fi/paranormal books.
Cassie’s story was tragic, yet so important and truly made the story feel complete. Also, can’t go wrong with Baxter as the cute ghost dog just trying to find his lost owner.
Just an overall incredible book that I didn’t want to put down. 1000% recommend!
I received this book as an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
This is for you if... - you love everything about Ghostbusters, but with a twist (the twist being a spaceship) - you are into sapphic messiness and maddening back and forth (but as a subplot) - and three girls (one is a ghost) and a big mystery to solve in a short time.
Nico Vincenty never disappoints with her novels. So am I biased at this point? I only know that I loved this book!
Magnolia and Korinne embark on the last trip of the abandoned Shipa Arkana to film their ghost show's finale. Everything is great until they start to tell Cassie's story, who was the last person to die on the ship. Weird and dangerous things start to happen.
There is a sprinkle of horror, sci-fi, murder mystery, ghosts, action and an amazing romantic subplot. And the author made the mixture work perfectly.
I loved all the characters and how they felt so different, despite having a lot in common. Their struggles, small and big, felt human and real all the time. There were moments I could barely keep reading because of the tension, and in the end I couldn't believe that the trip with Mag and Rinne on this massive spaceship was already over.
This genre-bending novel ticked all the boxes for me, and I can't wait to see what the author does next.

This book is a thrilling blend of sci-fi suspense and slow-burn romance that kept me hooked from start to finish.
Magnolia and Korinne’s dynamic is electric—equal parts tension, affection, and unresolved feelings—and the haunted spaceship setting adds a deliciously eerie backdrop to their emotional journey.
If I had one critique, it’s that the pacing occasionally lagged in the middle, and I wished for a bit more clarity around the ship’s history and the nature of the spirits. Still, the emotional payoff and the high-stakes climax more than made up for it.
A must-read for fans of queer romance, ghost stories, and space-bound mysteries. I’ll definitely be thinking about this haunted voyage for a long time.
Death Between the Stars is an engaging sci-fi story that mixes mystery, emotion, and a sense of cosmic danger. Nico Vecenty creates a setting that feels both huge and lonely, but the characters keep the story grounded and human.
One of the best parts of the book is its atmosphere. You really feel the quiet and isolation of space, and the tension grows as the mystery unfolds. The characters’ relationships feel real, and their choices drive the story in meaningful ways.
The plot reveals its secrets slowly, which makes the final chapters especially satisfying. The book also touches on big themes like life, death, and what it means to be human, but it never feels heavy-handed.
Some parts of the story can be a little confusing, especially when the ideas get more abstract, but overall it’s a rewarding read.
If you enjoy sci-fi with strong characters, a bit of mystery, and a thoughtful tone, Death Between the Stars is definitely worth picking up.
Two girls meet in a bar. Takes them the next five years chasing paranormal activities, flirting each other, getting lectured by an actual ghost, before they finally took some action.
I stumbled on Death Between The Stars on IG while searching for sapphic sci fi books. This did not disappoint. It started off as an exploration by two streamers on a haunted spaceship.
We learn of a murder mystery and get hints of something darker lurking within the spacecraft while we uncover the history of the spaceship from multiple POVs, including that of a ghost who had been stuck on the ship for ages.
The tone starts off lighthearted, like a harmless adventure on an ancient spaceship. But quickly dissolves into a thrilling high stakes cat and mouse game with an evil supernatural force, that’ll keep you flipping to the next page.
Overall, Death Between The Stars was an entertaining read. Once I got into Day 2, there was no chance of putting it down.

4.5 / 5 stars!
I thought this was a completely original story, and I was excited to see queer main characters, which I don't believe we see enough of in fiction. It took me a little while to understand the language and the world in this book, but once I did, I really enjoyed reading it. That said, the book isn't hard to understand or get into at all—it just takes a few chapters to fully grasp the entire story.
When I say this book has it all, it is not an exaggeration. It has ghost hunting, reality TV, a murder mystery, and so much more. You may think, reading the synopsis, that this book has TOO much going on to make sense or to make for a strong novel, and you would be wrong. I have no idea how the author did it, but yeah, Nico Vincenty absolutely nailed it.
Please pick up a copy of this book – you will not be disappointed!
The Blair Witch Project meets Event Horizon in this amazing Sapphia sci fi novel by Nico Vincenty. I liked the overall story of this being that their ghost investigators who are exploring a since abandoned ship. The way this was written I honestly felt like I was watching a ghost hunting show which is probably one of the reasons I couldn't put this down. With amazing imagery and character development we get a great story that follows two "friends" as they film the last episode of their ghost hunting show while alls figuring out how to tell one another how they feel.
I like the multiple perspectives including the perspective we get from a ghost who's on the ship (not saying who because I said so). This perspective adding a lot of details to the story that were necessary in order to fully develop the plot. thanks for this eARC
From someone who’s favorite tv show is Ghost Adventures I really enjoyed this read! It was a quick and fun story that I breezed through within half of a day. We follow two friends and ghosthunters on their last ghost hunt to close out their miniseries and they want to go out with a bang. They get the opportunity of a lifetime and of course it shakes things up. Magnolia believes in ghosts and of course her counterpart is a skeptic. There is a lot of action, secrets, tension, plot twists, and humor. I enjoyed the writing, and I loved the multiple POV. It added an extra layer and more depth to the story. The ending was perfect, and had me tearing up in the best way possible.
Thank you so much to the author for an advanced reader copy. I am voluntarily leaving a review, and all thoughts are my own.

In Death between the Stars, we join Magnolia and Korinne, who are ghost hunter influencers, while they investigate an ancient space ship. Korinne is sure that ghosts aren't real, while Magnolia is just as sure that they are. And they both aren't aware that they're madly in love with each other. Or that there might be angry spirits on the ship as well.
This was one of the cutest and coolest reads I had lately! Rinne's and Mags' dynamic is sooo cute, I was giggling. There's a heart-breaking story about our ghost girl Cassie as well and I had to cry a bit. 🥺 I'm giving 5 stars for the action, the emotions and the cool story idea. I never heard of a ghost space story before! :D
Thank you The Nerdfam and Nico Vincenty for providing me with a free ARC in exchange for a honest review.
This was a really good book and I enjoyed reading it. Magnolia and Korinne are ghost hunters and their final job is to document the last journey of the spaceship that took humanity to a new planet. It’s reported to be very haunted and they want to see what they can find. They have no idea what paranormal activity awaits them.
There were many twists and turns and dangerous moments. It’s balanced well with humour. I loved the dynamic between Magnolia and Korinne, but gosh was it frustrating how they wouldn’t confess their love for each other. Also loved Cassie, she was a great character and I liked getting to know her story.
I would recommend this book to people who love sci fi and paranormal books. Thanks to the NerdFam for the chance to review this arc.
4.5 This book launched me straight into “ghosts… but make it space” chaos, and I adored every eerie, heart-squishing second. Magnolia seeing full-body apparitions on a haunted generation ship? Korinne being the world’s cutest skeptic who’s like “I’ll believe it when the ghost files a report”? Peak entertainment.
Between the cosmic creaks, whispered warnings, and two best-friends-who-are-definitely-in-love trying not to accidentally die OR accidentally confess, I was glued to the page like a gremlin watching live paranormal footage at 3 a.m.
It’s spooky, it’s romantic, it’s sci-fi with feelings .... basically a cosmic hug wrapped in a haunting. I’d board this cursed ship again in a heartbeat.
I try to only read at night, so that I don’t go broke buying books. But this story had me thinking about it during the day so I had to break down and finish it quicker! The characters are so believable, and though it’s set in the future everyone is relatable. The world building Nico does is great, where the world you step in to is built slowly but easily enough that you don’t get lost in the history of this universe- it just makes sense. A definite slow-burn, but certainly some spice too ;) This makes me bump up Nico’s other books on my TBR list!
I really enjoyed this, there was so much atmosphere and intensity in some of the scenes I was part terrified/part excited. I found the relationship to be a bit robotic, and not enjoyable.Separately the characters are really good, and as friends they are really good. But when it crossed over to a relationship it just felt run of the mill clunky, which was a shame. However the story and premise are fantastic and I totally recommend it. I received an ARC from the author and this is my honest review.
Even though it took me a few pages to get my bearings I found this book to be a great read! I really enjoyed all of the little extra bits the author threw in like the sketches at the beginning of each chapter and the little camera logs too. It made the book feel extra unique. This book was also a great balance between horror and slow burn romance which can be so difficult to achieve. The characters are all great as well which includes the ship itself. If you think a haunted house is scary wait until you meet this haunted space ship.
No doubt this book goes straight to my list of favorite reads of 2025. Sometimes a book is so good you can’t help but imagine it as a perfect movie, and this is definitely one of those books. I absolutely love Nico Vincenty’s writing style; the pacing is spot-on, and the mystery build-up and the chemistry between Korinne and Magnolia are perfectly done. I was completely immersed in it from start to finish. Highly recommend!
Thank you to the author for the ARC. I’m voluntarily leaving this honest review.
This was such an interesting concept for a book. A Sci-Fi, Murder Mystery, Sapphic Romance. It's the first I've seen of its kind. What I loved most about this book was that there were chapters from the ghosts POV! They were very entertaining and funny. After a while, the story did get a bit repetitive and I started losing interest. Every time a new chapter started and it wasn't from the ghost's POV I found myself just wanting to get to her chapters. The romance part of the book was ok, but I was more interested in the murder mystery, which was done really well. Overall, if you're into murder mysteries with a side of sapphic romance I'd give this a shot!
This sci fi tale jumps around genres in such a wonderful way. Two reality TV stars on an abandoned spaceship ghost hunting and sifting through the wreckage to solve a murder mystery. It feels unlike anything else I have read. Each chapter gives you a different POV and be sure to keep straight who is narrating each chapter. I was really thrown the first time someone other than the FMCs appeared as narrator. Great read. Definitely recommend!
An intense and intriguing read from start to finish. The shifting POVs were fun and engaging, pulling me into the story and making me feel like I was unraveling the mystery with the characters themselves.
