Marsfield Missing is a good YA horror book that would make for a solid gateway for readers wanting to dip their toe into horror, while not being able to stomach the things that will come with it (gore, body horror, torment of young people, etc.).
The book's greatest strength is its characters. Kaelyn wrote a wonderful group of friends, who I got to on an emotional journey with. There are such beautiful moments, levity that made me laugh or at the very least smile, and some nastier and brutal scenes that I wasn't quite expecting for it being in the PG-13 realm.
This is thematically rich, while balancing how to send the message about greedy rich people and the damage they do the communities for older and younger readers. It is a bit on the nose, but in a way that is tastefully done and still makes for something that is thought-provoking.
It needs some serious edits, which I normally can get past, but in certain instances, it actually took away from certain scenes with some things that slipped through the cracks.
This is sold as It meets Stranger Things meets Scooby-Doo (I personally would add The Fly in there too) that is also a slasher. The former is all true. The vibes are there for this mid-00s set story. The latter, the slasher part, is not really there for the most part. Sure, there is a little bit, but for the length of the book, I felt starved of the slasher elements. The Carver is an original villain, but gets so underutilized and is more Boogey Man than slasher. If you are just more open to a general YA horror novel, you will have a great time. If you are wanting a slasher, you may walk away a bit disappointed.

I just finished Marsfield Missing and absolutely loved it. The friend group is fantastic, the emo energy is on point, and the whole Halloween-town atmosphere is a good vibe. It's got great YA horror elements, but don't go in expecting a full slasher, because it leans more into a Y2K adventure and young-adult mystery.
As a 90-2000s girl myself, the nostalgia hits perfectly. It's spooky without being gory, which makes it a great pick for younger readers or anyone who wants something eerie but not too intense. Highly recommend.

I think this is a great story that fits a wide age group. I enjoyed tHe pop culture references and the emo punky vibe this book fits. As a Halloween lover I really enjoyed the Halloween town and all the fallish things in the setting. I think it had a solid sci-fi plot and was perfectly planned out to keep the reader interested. This was a great and easy read!!

Marsfield Missing is such a great spooky season read. The content is safe for younger audiences with just enough mystery and horror aspects to keep you invested. I really enjoyed this story and would recommend to anyone looking for a good spooky story to keep you on your toes.
