A barista's life unravels when she discovers her bloodline holds the power to preserve the Earth, and she must choose between her simple existence and the destiny she never asked for.
The year is 2248, and Earth is on the brink of climate catastrophe. Wildly fluctuating temperatures, frequent earthquakes, and natural disasters have become business as usual for Dawn Farringdon, a barista who’d like nothing more than to serve up a delicious cup of coffee, catch the attention of her hot colleague Logan, and figure out her next steps in life.
But her climatologist dad has different plans for her. He disappears off the grid, but not before sending her on a globe-trotting, cryptic mission with the so-called Lumen—people with superhuman abilities who inhabit the realms of the sky and sea.
It turns out, it’s the end of days, and it’s up to Dawn to help save Earth from disaster. Hoping to reunite with her dad and resume her regular life, Dawn must trust her newfound friends, master her own awakening powers, and hide from two Lumen assassins in order to complete her mission to find a rare ingredient for a renewable power source and avoid Earth’s untimely demise.

Oh my god this story😍 I absolutely loved this book and can’t wait for what happens next. The fantasy, mystery, adventure, action, problem solving and the turn at every corner was fantastic! The author did a truly amazing job with this book balanced between childhood tales mixed with today’s technology and wonders to the various world possibilities and abilities. Following Dawn’s journey with the aid of her family, friends and new found friends was such a breath of fresh air from my usual reads. I look forward to reading more from Liz and seeing what happens next!
Amazing! Gripping start to a triology. I love ordinary to the chosen one stories & this has a fresh world building take. I love the cultural elements & details added to this story. And I love that the character doesn't have too much angst about becoming the chosen one, cause it can really drag down the pace. I can't wait for the next books
The fantasy sci-fi elements in this book felt like watching a crossover movie by Roland Emmerich and James Cameron - like a mix of Day After Tomorrow and Avatar. It was a great read in the last days of 2025.
