“Near him, I am eager to face my lies and find my truths.”

giphy-8

I was really floored by how melodious the writing was - almost lyrical, but so effective. With a gentle cadence, the author draws you into Charles and Loris' relationship - the intimate way in which their souls were already bound, before it became one of meaningful purpose in helping 22yo Charles navigate his future and his own sexual identity.

Because it is not an all too unfamiliar story, but the words just envelope you with a heartwarming feeling, sincere connections and believable growth. 🥺 The bittersweet recognition that Charles has to accept for both himself and his family secrets, the friendships that have stood the test of time and his desire to fervently hold onto, & this perfect being that stole his heart and awakened his spirit.

“It is crazy, yes. The highest risk he’s ever taken combined with the least experience he’s ever had. But this is also the most alive he’s ever felt.”

Loris may have been too perfect; Hampstead bartender-artist, he was someone too unattainable to hold down. He was charming and kind, almost too forgiving at times, but still never afraid to voice his confessions or his fears openly with him. A visceral grief-stricken trauma buried so deep within himself that by only spending time in this Land of Loris. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹 A safe harbour, away from his golden world, does he find the courage to break free of the chains tying him down.

Their love story was both heartbreaking and breathtaking. For how patient Loris was with Charles' misguided intentions, to the tender way he coaxed Charles into an intimacy that was both fiery and soft - all-consuming - wanting you. All of you, at all time, and with all of me.' 🫠 These experiences of newfound feelings that gave Charles a chance to reflect on his own heartache and pain and himself.

“I’m here because… I’m so Lorisexual, I want to tongue your sanity out of your mouth until the one single word you remember is my name.”

Watching Charles' own personal resolve grow stronger because of the confidence loris inspired in him was beautiful to see. The emotions, the affection leapt out of the page. And today, that he’s mine and that I’m his... 🥹 It was immersive and emotive. their shared passion for a specific artist enriched their lives. It was unique and watching the final chapter unfold was a welcome stab to the heart - just made their bond feel even more alive. 🩵🤍

Their individual friend groups play a big part in their dynamic, which sadly was also the weak part for me. I loved how supportive they were, but it was mostly during their interactions that the writing slightly fumbled and I also lost interest. 😕 Also, Charles' past relationship was a confrontational conflict prevalent throughout, which I also wish could have been dealt with a bit more care.

“You okay?’
‘I love you.’
‘Does it answer my question?’
‘Yes, because it answers most of mine.”

love-romance

It was by chance I stumbled upon this; for how Loris brought color into Charles' life, the cover does lack that spark. But maybe it is the simpleness of it, an obedient, uptight young man, frozen for eternity gently being guided forward by one not bound by restrictions, a free-spirited soul - a freedom willingly given. Maybe that speaks more than any vibrancy could have. 🌷

Have you ever read a book that when you close it, you actually cannot stop smiling for days on end?
Have you ever read a book where your love for the side characters is as strong as for the main characters? (Hi George)
Have you ever read a book that gives you stomach flutters, makes you cry, laugh, get angry sometimes (come on, we can’t love ALL side characters, there has to be some bad guys), FEEL?

If you ever have, you already know Colour Me Yours is right up your alley.
If you haven’t, are you ready to experience it for the first time?

I was lucky enough to get an ARC of Colour Me Yours, and let me tell you, what a beautiful walk that was. A walk through the lovely streets of Hampstead and its Heath, getting passionate about a painter that I’m actually picturing the paintings of in my head, loving how comfy our anxious main character gets in the presence of the chill, confident French barman, and don’t get me started on George, the loving, understanding, fearless sidekick (I’m obsessed with George in case you haven’t got that yet).

The author’s craft of dialogues is nothing short of incredible, and makes you fall in love with these characters and their personalities so quickly, but most of all, I still take a part of these characters with me everywhere I go, weeks after closing this book.

Reading Colour Me Yours was such an immersive experience, I felt so close to the story and the characters, despite having gone through none of the hurdles they have in life. But it reminded me that a found family is sometimes much more powerful than blood. That showing up for your friends is so important, and that your friends know you better than you may ever think.

I loved the writing, I loved the feelings, I loved the story.

And one, very important thing for me when I read a romance book: no third act break up. Thank you for that.

Writing this review, I miss these characters and can’t wait to meet them again. I’ll do that on release day!

I’ve been lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book and let me tell you. This is your next 5 stars read.
It’s no secret that since 2021, I’ve only been reading queer books and lately I’ve found myself becoming difficult to please. With so many romances out, it’s starting to be really hard to find one that can keep me awake at night. It’s hard to fall in love with some characters and think about them all day.
With this book, you’ll find everything you want.
Romance, characters who are beautifully depicted, addiction to some scenes you keep rereading because you can’t get enough of them.
Loris and Charles are the most relatable and most lovable characters I got to read about.
The writing is flawless and poetic and I’m just in awe of this book.
The story in itself is heartbreaking and also so heartwarming.
Charles is a character I could really relate to because of my own personal story, and it was so good to read some of the deepest thoughts I had in the past but never spoke out loud because they felt too intimate to be shared.
Loris, oh god let me tell you about him. He’s so freaking perfect and you WILL fall in love with him the second his name appears in your line of sight. He’s the most perfect French guy I’ve met on a page and I can’t get enough of him.
This book is your next favorite book and you’ll become obsessed with it as soon as you read the first chapter.
The love story is so real, so pure and so beautifully written that you’ll want to be one of them at some point.
I can’t stress enough how much the writing made me feel like I was reading a masterpiece the whole time. With this story, the author created something that you can’t stop reading, can’t stop thinking about.
I’ve read this under 2 days and that’s something that only happens when I’m so into the story that I don’t care about anything else happening in my life.
Do yourself a favor and just read this book.
If you’re a MM reader, it’s going to be one your favorites. If you’re not, then you’ll understand how beautiful and good queer books are.

5/5
Go read it.

Colour Me Yours has a poetic writing style which already makes it a unique book from the start. The author plays a lot with language and words and that really shapes how the story unfolds.

Both main characters have a strong artistic sensibility, and the book goes into depth around art and a particular artist they each connect with. It gives them a lot to bond over and adds meaning to their relationship, but it’s also a theme you kind of need to enjoy going in.

This isn’t a typical MM romance in terms of structure or focus, and I would personally frame it closer to literary fiction with romantic elements. I think readers who enjoy quieter, character-led stories with an emphasis on voice, identity, and emotion will find a lot to appreciate here.

I had the privilege of receiving an ARC of Colour Me Yours and I just can’t wait for November 13th to order the paperback copy and place it onto my bookshelf next to my favourite books — because this one is definitely a forever favourite.

A story where characters share a passion for art and actually discuss it throughout the book ? I say yes a thousand times ! The story around Pavel Olwinski, a fictional painter who plays a huge role in Charles’ and Loris’ lives, was fascinating to read. We’re far from the usual « coming from different worlds » kind of relationship, and I have to admit that I have a soft spot for intellectual arguments.

But it’s the safe place that Loris embodies for Charles that really filled me with warmth. Falling in love with each other is truly what they both deserve.

Even if they’re fictional, these characters felt so real to me. Hélène Clément has a real talent for creating ordinary yet complex characters you could meet in real life. And what I loved most is that even though the book is written from Charles’ point of view, each character has their own identity and emotional path.

Speaking of Charles, needless to say I could relate to him everytime he shared what it’s like in Charland — the name of his brain (brilliant idea btw !). I could feel his anger, vulnerability, confusion, pain as if they were my own. And that’s another gift Hélène Clément has, the ability to reach right into your soul and turn every emotion into poetry (the French Revolution might be my favourite metaphor from the book). I also have to say that I love love love the fact that the writing is sprinkled with little details, which make it unique. Charles does small, relatable things that make him feel incredibly human.

Having struggled with poor mental health, I’ve found it hard to read for quite some time now. Well, it clearly wasn’t the case with Colour Me Yours and I’m still baffled by it. Definitely a 6 stars book and a must-(re-re-re…)read !

I was lucky enough to get an advanced copy (ARC) and fell in love with Charles and Loris’ story right away. It’s a modern take on Victorian romance - Will they? Won’t they? The inner life of Charles, with all his flaws, is so well done. The pacing of Charles and Loris’ relationship is a steady heart beat throughout the story, letting us savor that aching feeling of potential connection between the characters. I rooted for them, I wanted to strangle them, I needed them to figure it out.

I’m not usually interested in a “poor little rich boy” narrative but the expectations and demands placed on Charles by his family, and some of his friends were excruciating. I really felt for Charles and his sense of powerlessness. I wanted to see where it would go.

Also, I love London. This book reminds me of walking through Hampstead, the glitz but also the everyday life. This was the ideal book to spend a weekend curled up with somewhere cozy. A five star romance.

This heartfelt romance set in London tells the story of two men from different worlds who connect over their shared love for a famous painter. Charles is an upper-class young man grieving the loss of someone close to him. He feels disconnected from his family and struggles with his past. Until he meets Loris, an artist-turned-bartender in Hampstead, who brings a sense of freedom and emotional warmth that helps Charles confront his pain.

Their bond is warm and genuine, with emotional depth as they move through their personal struggles and slowly fall in love. The story explores grief, identity, and healing, and its London setting adds a rich layer to the story.

If you’re looking for a quiet, introspective romance with a lot of heart, this book is a must-read. Charles, Loris, and their incredible friends will take you into their world, and you will not want to leave.

I was lucky enough to be sent an ARC version of Colour Me Yours, and I can’t wait for the rest of the world to fall in love with it too.

Colour Me Yours is a story of love and friendship that tackles sensitive subjects.
We follow the inner journey of Charles, a young man who finally dares to stray from his path, despite his buried traumas and the strong hold his environment has on him.
It’s a romance that shows us that our past shapes us but doesn’t define us. That sometimes, to understand ourselves, it just takes finding the person that will make everything click into place. The person who will allow us to open our eyes and our heart to what we refused to admit, to feel and to experience.
The writing flows beautifully and the tone is always right. We’re instantly immersed in each scene, we feel every single emotion. It’s a roller-coaster ride, sometimes entertaining and amusing, sometimes stressful and distressing, sometimes tender and moving.
The author’s great talent for writing very impactful and delightful dialogues - already present in her first novel ‘Le Plus Beau Reste A Venir’ - is on full display here.
I’m very grateful I got to read an ARC of Colour Me Yours. It became an instant and absolute favourite!

Wow, what a book!

I got to read an ARC of this book & I am left speechless - in the best possible way!!

It’s a beautiful story that will move you (I’ve lost count of how many times I have wanted to hug Charles, the lead!!). You will get attached to all the characters and will laugh, smile, cry, gasp & feel with them/for them. They will probably remind you of your friends or you will identify with them (I know I did!). I could NOT put the book down & just wanted to know what happened next!

We also need to talk about the quality of the writing!! Hélène Clément is a special talent & she needs to get a lot of credits for this book because it’s just phenomenal. Some passages, I’m sure, will become classic quotes. Also, I have to mention that this would do a wonderful TV series / movie & if I were a producer, I’d jump at the occasion!

Read it, you won’t regret it!!
5 stars, no doubt!!! 🌟

I had the the great honour and -- even greater -- pleasure to be a beta reader for 'Colour Me Yours' and I absolutely loved it!

Loris is so caring about Charles needs and boundaries and Charles being overwhelmed by emotions is so touching I wanna wrap them in a blanket and protect them at all cost.

Their interactions are so genuine and relatable in the way they talk to each other, but also in their body language, which is so visual it makes me squeal every time.

They are the perfect mix of insecurities, imperfections and kindness and they are perfectly balancing each other out (I would literally jump in front of a bus for them 🥺❤️).

The first thing that got me hooked is how *real* everything feels. The characters, their interactions, the dialogues... You really feel like you're watching real people going about their day. Nothing they say feel scripted, nothing they do feel forced. You're not reading their journey, you're living it.

My second favourite things are the side characters. Each of Loris' friends and each of Charles' have their own idiosyncrasies that make you care for them deeply. I'm especially in love with Elsy (she's an absolute queen 👑 ❤️). Her relationship with Charles is so special and precious; I don't think I've read anything like this before.

In summary, if you are into emotional rollercoasters, heart-warming characters, and tingly gut feelings, this story is for you!

Charles is a rich 22-year-old living in London, profiting from his parents' wealth and influence but resentful of the control they have over his life. He finds some relief when he meets a French bartender who loves the same artist he does.
I can't deny that a bisexual awakening love story will pretty much always hit for me. It's just inherently so juicy! Charles just REALLY likes Loris at first, and then the confusing sexual attraction comes later, and Loris is a brave man for putting up with Charles's nonsense before he gets his act together. I really appreciated the way that Charles is fully aware that he's a spoiled rich kid, making him less insufferable than similar characters. His internal conflict really worked for me, since he knew he should be grateful and wasn't sure he deserved more. I could understand why he'd want to convince himself that the right thing for him to do was just to try to be happy within the constraints of his life.
I did find this book to be a little over-long, and there were several times when it really dragged. There were some awkwardly-written and clunky sentences as well that I couldn't parse. Some of the side characters weren't fleshed out enough to feel necessary. But overall I enjoyed this more serious, nuanced romance that was more than just two men falling in love, but a character study about a complicated young man figuring out what kind of life he wants and how to fight for what he deserves.

💜 Hurt/comfort
💜 Characters you’ll fall for
💜 Beautiful writing
💜 A little bit of spice
💜 Love story in London

Entering Charles’ world and following his self discovery journey was an incredible ride filled with pain, love and laugh.
It made me so happy to witness his personal evolution, to see him manage to stay true to himself, despite what he has to go through and his toxic parents.
Loris will have you wrapped around his fingers within a couple of chapters. He’s charming, funny, talented, passionate about art, and so emotionally intelligent with Charles.
The evolution of their relationship is beautifully written. It had been a while since I shipped two characters this fast! They are just perfect for each other.
The ending made me cry, I thought it was so beautiful.
And I want to give a big shout out to George. We all need a friend like George in our life!

5🌟 for this book, it was everything I love to read about, when I look for a book.

Thank you again Hélène for the advanced copy!

Reading this book brought me into my own little mind palace.

As someone who thoroughly enjoys modern romance - how good did it feel to flip through these pages with happiness, anger, sadness, sympathy and most importantly love.

When getting to know Charles, Loris and their fantastic group of friends, you can't help but think about your own story. Have I found my Loris yet? Will my George stick around with me as much as he did for Charles?

To me, Charles is a character I couldn't help but relate to a lot - more than I thought I would. It made me questions myself in a positive way, because he makes vou want to fiaht for a better version of yourself. His struggles with anxiety, grief were raw poignant and something that made him even more real.

Finding that art isn't just in the being but in the living is what made me love Loris so much. He has his own complexity and sensitivity yet you realize in the end, the way he expresses his love is what makes him unique.

I'm glad Charles found Loris and Loris found Charles.

If you are someone who appreciates art in its many forms, I truly believe you will find what you're looking for. Let yourself walk through Hampstead with these two men, while they figure out what it is like to love.

I read this book in two sittings (which is no small feat given my attention span when it comes to reading sometimes).

From the first pages, I was completely hooked, unable to put it down, too captivated by the story, unwilling to burst the bubble I was enveloped in.

The author has perfectly captured a wide palette of emotions. The descriptions are precise and vivid, bringing the characters to life in a way that made me feel deeply for them. Each personality felt real and true.

I smiled at tender moments, felt my heart race during tense scenes, blushed at intimate exchanges, and found tears in my eyes more than once.

Every once in a while, you read a book where the characters start to feel like actual companions, where closing the book feels like saying goodbye to friends. That ache of missing them afterward, of wishing you could spend just a little more time in their world, of dreaming at night about what happens next—that's how I know I've read something truly great.

Well...this book is that great and more ! If you're looking for a story that will completely sweep you away and stay with you after you've turned the last page, this is it.

When adding a review, one is asked to add tags to identify the book, but I honestly don’t think it matters if you usually read LGBT fiction or not, you will still find the central characters endearing.

I am lucky enough to have received an ARC of this tender, contemporary romance set in North London, and loved following the story of Loris and Charles, as they develop an unexpected relationship. The main characters plus all their friends, are very well described, Hélène Clément has taken so much care ensuring they are believable, that you will want to be part of their lives.

I am not usually very emotional, but the ending of this book made me cry - in a good way, I must add, without any spoilers.

Do read this enchanting, modern love story, you won’t regret it, you too will fall in love with the characters.

This book has all the ingredients of a captivating read. The plot is well constructed and every element falls perfectly into place. What struck me the most was the care given to the characters. They are deeply developed, complex, and utterly believable. Very quickly, you become drawn into their pasts, their choices, and their ways of seeing the world. Page after page, you learn to love some and hate others. And when you reach the final page, you are left with that strange, almost frustrating feeling of having to let them go.

I loved how the story unfolds, beautifully shaped by the growing love story between Charles and Loris. Despite their very different backgrounds, they come to discover themselves and each other (and it is simply impossible not to fall for Loris!).

If you crave a good romance (but not the usual one), READ THIS BOOK!!

Wow. That’s the word that best describes this book, in my opinion.

The story follows two young men as they discover one another, delicately exploring the complexity of their emotions, shaped by their past and their personalities. From the first moments of doubt to the building of a future, every word is carefully chosen and deeply impactful.

The reading experience is smooth and enjoyable, delivering just the right amount of emotion. The main characters (as well as the supporting ones) are truly endearing, and it’s easy to relate to one or the other, as their reactions and actions feel strikingly real.

Once again, the author delivers a sincere and emotionally rich work, full of subtlety, turning the ordinary into something truly extraordinary. Go get this book!

What an emotional rollercoaster. This poignant romance is a powerful read. Every second chapter will bring tears, whether that is of happiness, sadness, or heartache. The pacing is perfect, allowing you to fully absorb the weight of the moment before moving on. The way the scenes are written makes you feel exactly what Charles was feeling and experiencing—the author's evocative prose pulls you into their world immediately. If you haven't read it yet, I recommend you do. Meeting Charles and Loris will bring joy to your life and will make you think about your own experiences. This book is an experience I won't soon forget. Go read it!

Loved this. The characters were beautifully drawn out and I felt deeply immersed in the Hampstead setting. Themes around love and romance were woven together alongside grief, as well as subtle themes around mental health and the role that art and creativity play in our lives. A really nourishing, enriching read, with some truly beautiful turns of phrase across the pages.
