📚 Book Review by R.M. Campbell 📚 Whispers, Screams and a Killer with Schemes By Nellie H. Steele ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This is Book Six in the Lily and Cassie by the Sea Mystery Series and continues to provide readers with the delightfully witty dialogue and compelling mystery that Nellie’s fans have come to expect from her books. Cassie is on a mission to uncover the truth about her reportedly ex-husband and her father’s deaths, their involvement in a criminal activity, and who and why someone is watching her. When Cassie is contacted and told to meet a mystery informant who can shed light on her quest at an abandoned location, Cassie jumps at the opportunity, only to find the person murdered and Cassie left with more questions than when she began. The more Cassie and Lily investigate, the more complicated the events become, and the two are left not knowing who to trust. With the help of her ghost companions Ri and Clif and the town’s sheriff, Wyatt, the mystery investigation escalates into an unexpected series of developments that is totally unexpected. This is definitely an edge-of-your-seat mystery, with twists and unexpected developments that many may not see coming. The characters are evolving exceptionally into qualities that are maturing as the series progresses. The action is extraordinary and will have you transfixed on each page as the plot develops. The suspense, tension, and emotions are all outstanding as the plot progresses. This was definitely a page turner for me, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this installment of the Sea Mystery Series. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book.
Let me start by saying I've read this entire series and thoroughly enjoyed it. I like the characters and the mysteries are good. I hope she continues to write these, so I can continue to enjoy them. That said, these books badly need an editor! Mainly for story continuity. For instance, Cassie and Lily are looking into the ancestry of another character in one book and in the next it comes up like they never thought of it before. They meet a guy named Nate and have a discussion about whether his full name is Nathan or Nathaniel. They find out it's Nathaniel. In a future book he's referred to as Nathan. These are just a couple of examples of this type of error. I do agree with another reviewer who said some of the plots get a bit outlandish. I think she was talking about the paranormal side, but I find myself rolling my eyes the umpteenth time Cassie goes off by herself to capture a murderer. I believe in women being brave and independent (being a woman myself) but sometimes it's just stupid. Even so, I'm looking forward to seeing where things go with Ri, Nate and Clif. And if the store Cassie and Lily opened is ever mentioned again. Nothing about it since book 3.
As I said, I like the stories so I just try to bypass the continuity issues. Maybe it's because I read them back to back so it was more like reading one long book. These definitely should be read in order!
Final thoughts - they are an easy read, plotlines are good, characters are likeable, they held my interest and kept me reading, and I'm looking forward to more books in the series.
The story was average in this part. Ri is becoming more n more insufferable. Yes, she was a pirate but stil... Also, her influence on Cassie wasn't a great move for Cassie's character development. Cassie and Lily duo has always been perfect and I used to like how understanding they both were about each other's feelings and situations.
I really enjoyed reading the sixth book in this series. It was fun trying to solve the mystery along with Lily, Cassie and the ghosts, Ri and Cliff. It had a suspenseful ending too. I would recommend this mystery to anyone who likes these kind of characters and mysteries.
The adventure doesn't stop as Cassie and Lily try to solve more of the puzzling series of adventure. Help from our favorite pirate ghosts is on hand but can this save them from harm? A good addition to the series.
Lily, Cassie and Ri have to deal with some serious issues concerning Cassie's father. Cassie receives several texts from her father saying he needs to meet her, but she must come alone and tell no one!
