I received this book from Edelweiss in exchange of an honest review.
Well, this was OK. It had its moments. I think it would work better as an animation as it felt pretty stilted/framebyframe in the graphic novel. Plus, the parents were just terrible, I am glad at least they understood they were wrong but I hope they include Finnik a bit more/start caring more about the kids. But yeah, both those two things almost made me want to drop/DNF the graphic novel as they were quite annoying. I have to say I also didn’t entirely care about the POV of the parents. I much rather followed Finnik as he went about his way.
Finnik was brave, but also gosh golly he was an idiot, haha. But I love how dedicated he was to his little sister and how he tried to be there for her and protect her. They really have a close bond and I loved seeing it grow as their adventure continued as see them, in their way, communicate (the baby can say some words but not much). I loved how he tried to get back home, maybe in a big round-about way, but it was at least a way. I loved seeing him gain a bit more smarts as the story continued and see him figure out how monsters tick/how to get through situations.
And boy, the surroundings were just a hoot! We have dinosaurs, monsters, some sort of dragons, lava bubbling everywhere, angry bugs (though to be fair I would also be pissed if someone used me a lotion dispenser), sticky vines that will trap an entire big monster if the monster is dumb enough, rivers that flow like an attraction ride, and there is more. I loved this world and I love to explore it with Finnik as he went along his way.
I also liked meeting that new character, he was an even bigger idiot than Finnik but he made me laugh. With his cave of drawn on furniture (or half-drawn in case of the guest room) and his weird ways.
The ending and how things got even more exciting? Love it! I won’t spoil anything, but it was terrific.
All in all, I did have fun with this one, but I just wish it was better. I will still recommend it for those good things that I mentioned, and who knows maybe one day we will see this one on TV/streaming services, again it would make a fun series or single episode.

Funny and cute.

One mistake turns into an epic adventure with little chance to breathe the entire way through.
Finnik is ten, definitely old enough to join his parents as they hunt monsters. But instead of joining them, they claim he isn't ready yet and stick him on eternal baby-sitting duty. When Finnik notices a small monster stealing their food and his parents are distracted with other things, he decides to stop that beast on his own. After all, it isn't big. Of course, he takes his baby sister with him because he doesn't need another lecture about leaving her alone. And he almost gets the beast...until a giant Crusher swoops in. Now, it's a race for survival.
This is a very adventurous read which keeps the tension going as soon as the huge Crusher monster sweeps in. First though, the author sets the stage with a Finnik, whose frustration is very easy to understand. Plus, his love for his sister is obvious, even if he grumbles the entire time. It makes him very easy to root for and hope that both make it through to the end. After all, his baby sister is adorable, too. The parents are also very loving, although they make mistakes, but the fevering desire to keep their kids safe also has the reader on the edge of their seat, hoping the parents make it in time. So, there's a lot of warmth and goodness flowing beneath the exciting action. And there is plenty of action as Finnik manages to get into one sticky situation after the other.
The graphics slide in an earthier color tone foundation to give a nice, caveman aura. Still, the monsters and details pops with color to keep everything far from dreary. The images give the action and danger an extra boost, making it hard to put this read down until the very end. The text stays concise to give exactly what's needed to make each scene clear and add personality. It fits the age group nicely and creates an easy read, which even reluctant readers are sure to enjoy.
This is action pure with a lovely amount of family care to cushion the danger and add a wholesome touch. The ending leaves a bit sudden with the last scene, but this also promises tons more action to come. And Finnik is a character, which is sure to face crazy situations in the future as well.

Follow Finnik in his graphic novel adventure as he tries to prove himself to his parents, that he is in fact a warrior … while attempting to babysit his little sister Tina on their wild adventure in the prehistoric ages .. fighting dinosaurs, getting lost and figuring out what it means to be a warrior!
This is an action packed adventure with bright and engaging graphics (I love Tina!). The story moves quickly and it is a quick read (I think I finished the book in 45 minutes). It is fun, silly and just a book you read when you are looking for a light read. It moves quickly, the vocabulary has a bit of slang to it and there is a lot more action then there is reading in this book so heavier on the artwork then the actual reading.
Not the most engaging and not a lot of reading but if you had someone who struggles to read and you want some reading with a lot of pictures in the story this might be a book to pick up.

This book’s art is simply stunning! The bright, vivid colors make every page pop and fun to read. The monster designs were also super cool and unique.
Finnik is a boy trying to prove himself but ends up on a big adventure with his baby sister. The story was so fun and full of heart. I laughed and enjoyed it immensely. I think anyone could read and enjoy this book for the fun story and the beautiful art.

Fun kids graphic novel. Great illustrations, fun pre-historic story.
